Mandy Capristo & Mesut Özil - A Look At Their Careers, Side by Side
I’ve done them by year…
Mandy Capristo (age 11) wins her first televised competition in Austria.
Mesut Özil (age 12) plays out his first full season at Rot Weiss Essen.
Mandy (12) charts for the first time with an album in Austria at #1.
Mandy (13) is offered her first professional recording contract by a record label. She turns it down to stay in school.
Mesut (16) joins Schalke’s youth team.
Mandy (16) takes part in the casting show Popstars! as the youngest contestant. 5100 girls take part. She, Senna Guemmour and Bahar Kizil win the competition. The band Monrose is formed.
Monrose’s first single is released in December. It goes straight to #1 in Germany, Austria & Switzerland.
The album, Temptation is released a week later and is immediately certified platinum.
Mesut (17) wants to be a professional footballer for Schalke. He plays in the youth championship with the A-youth and wins with Schalke.
A few weeks later he is allowed to train with the first team for the first time.
He is called up for the U17s for Germany.
Mandy (17) and Monrose release a second single, Even Heaven Cries, from Temptation. With these two singles, the band outsells 75 other songs, combined, that were in the top 100 of the German charts that year. The album is certified triple platinum.
The band releases Hot Summer in July, which is their second non-consecutive #1 hit and charts all over Europe, breaking the German download record. Their second album, Strictly Physical, comes out a month later.
Mesut (18) starts to make more regular appearances for Schalke, especially when first team members are injured or suspended. He also debuts in the Champions League in the Group Stages for his club. He asks Schalke for a permanent contract.
Mesut buys his first car, and starts helping his family with money.
Mandy (18) and Monrose release their third album, I am. Three singles are released Hit ‘n’ Run, Why not us? and Strike the Match. The band starts to win their first music awards.
Mandy builds herself a large house outside Mannheim and moves her family in to live with her. She buys her first car and also her older brother’s first car.
Mesut (19) leaves Schalke for Werder Bremen. By the end of the 2007-08 season he is starting regularly for the club.
Mandy (19) and Monrose go on a recording break, touring instead and fulfilling modelling contracts and voicing for Disney.
Mandy is the surprise winner of a vote, by FHM Germany, for “Sexiest Woman In The World.” She is photographed for the cover, the calendar, and is invited back to do a second cover. She receives her first individual modelling contracts and bookings and starts modelling clothing.
Mesut (20) plays a successful first full season with Werder Bremen, winning the DFB Pokal.
With the German U21 he wins the European Championships with a MOTM performance against England in the final.
Mandy (20) and Monrose release their last album, Ladylike, with the singles Like a Lady, This is Me and Breathe You In. They perform for the last time for thousands of crying fans at the Dome in a nationally televised event to say goodbye. In four years together, the band sold millions of records and became the most important girls band in Germany.
Mandy immediately begins recording her first solo album.
Mesut (21) plays in the World Cup for Germany and makes the semifinals. He is nominated for the tournament’s golden ball. His performance earns him a transfer to Real Madrid.
Mandy (21) halts production on her album when she is invited to tour with German rock legend Peter Maffay. Over the next year, she does 54 live performances with him in sold out stadiums and concert halls all over Germany for the musical Tabaluga, in which she plays the role of Princess Lilly.
Mandy begins modelling professionally for various shoe and accessory designers.
Mesut (22) has a disappointing league season with Real Madrid, but is individually honoured by UEFA when he makes the Champions League 11 of the 2010-11 season.
He wins the Copa del Rey with Real Madrid.
Mandy (22) returns to work on her album. She is invited to compete on Let’s Dance in the weeks leading up to the release of her single, The Way I Like It. The single unexpectedly charts in the top 10, making her the only casting show band member to go solo and manage a top ten hit in German history.
She goes on an acoustic tour in Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
Mandy also works for Disney, again, recording all the songs (in English and German) and voicing one of the characters (in German) in the film The Great Divide.
Mesut (23) wins La Liga with Real Madrid and makes the Spanish press starting 11 for the year. With Germany he makes the semifinal of the Euros and is given two man of the match accolades against Greece and Portugal.
Mandy (25) is finishing work on her second solo album (sixth career album) after changing production teams. Her next single is expected to be out this autumn. She has kept her house in Mannheim but is now primarily based in London.
Mesut (26) is now at Arsenal FC in London and won the FA Cup there in his first season with the team. He won the World Cup with Germany this past summer.
