Artist Tina Barney said of August Sander’s photographs, “The hands in all the pictures. That’s one of my great loves: the hands. Did he see that and go back and do it again, which is something that I and many photographers, I have learned, do? The selection process. How many did he take at that moment?” A portfolio from August Sander’s iconic People of the Twentieth Century series that includes these works is on view in our lobby through October 30.
