Atlasaurus was a fairly large and yet still fairly basal sauropod from the Tiougguit Formation of the High Atlas range of the Atlas Mountains of Morocco, in Azilal Province. It livd from the Bathonian to Callovian ages of the Middle Jurassic, anywhere between 168 and 163 million years ago. It was about fifteen meters long and around 9 meters tall, making it very large for sauropods at this time and stage in sauropod evolution. However, it may actually be more advanced evolutionarily speaking and closely related to Brachiosaurus, which would not be surprising given its morphology; more research into its classification is clearly needed.
