“My biggest challenge when I first started training was my technique”

Losing weight and living a healthy lifestyle doesn’t make you someone else, but it does wake you up. I don’t hide. I don’t look at my feet when I walk. I don’t dread waking up in the morning. I don’t JUST exist. 

I used to eat fast food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and drank soda all day. It was an addiction. My life was so monotonous I thought that terrible food was my only source of happiness. 

At 25 years old, I realize I deserve better. 

Grocery shopping for blueberries and peanut butter is exciting. Being able to breathe while hiking trails is exciting. Waking up in the morning to be ME is exciting. 

Fuck being miserable. I am so strong!

What I ate yesterday!
Banana French toast with mango and peanut butter, an iced gingerbread clif bar, a chocolate protein smoothie, rice with curried red lentils and roasted veggies, fresh bread with avocado and tomatoes and a salad, dark chocolate covered rice cake and Christmas cookies :)

I’m really getting tired of constantly hearing about abuse in RG. The mentality in this sport is so fucked up..

Like, sure, girls have to be very light, bc gaining even just a bit of weight can lead to injuries.. This sport is one of the hardest in the world, you have to be able to dance like a ballerina, be flexible like a contortionist while having the dexterity of a juggler..

All this while being under a very strict diet.. Sure, some girls have the perfect body type, like Ganna, Yana, Grace.. While other have a natural tendency to gain weight and have to fight that all the time, like Alina Kabaeva, Yuliya Sinitsyna, Alexandra Merkulova..

But seriously, something has to change in the way these girls are asked to lose weight

Kabaeva was put under a water-only diet for 3 days when she first joined the russian national team (she was a teenager)

Sinitsyna couldn’t drink during her training sessions, bc it would lead her to gain back all the weight she had just lost..

Mariya Mateva was asked to lose all the weight she had gained after her brain surgery last year, or else she would be kicked out of the bulgarian national team

and now, this story with the israelian head coach..

This is abuse, and sadly it’s an integral part of this sport. These young athletes need protection and nutrition classes instead of threats and constant body-shaming…
