at least the movie's good for something

Netflix Customer Service

Alright everyone! So I’ve just finished getting off a 20 minute call with customer service. The lady that took my call was the sweetest thing. What she said? They’ve been receiving calls like crazy about the cancellation of sense8 from left to right. She also told me there have been some angry callers, but please guys, if you want something done, please be kind, being angry isn’t going to help when you’re talking to these people. She also told me that EVERY SINGLE FEEDBACK THEY RECEIVE FROM US COUNTS AND THEY TAKE IT SERIOUSLY. As she also said that Netflix is probably the only company she knows that does this. I spoke to her about the possibility of there being at least a special or a movie so we may be able to get a good and decent finale. Everything that we tell these people is being typed down and sent to headquarters. I came to ask as well about the possibility of Netflix selling the show forward and she said she wouldn’t know about that and told me that they can possibly keep making money off of sense8 if it’s still there. Make sure you guys tell them that if they cancelled it because they weren’t getting enough views; I specifically said to her “if you’re going to cancel it because it’s not getting enough views, excuse my language, but advertise your shit”. Why keep making money from a show that’s been cancelled if you’re not getting views and you’re not willing to promote it. I live in New York City and the only time there was ever something concerning sense8 here was the season 2 premiere which was amazing. Please let them know what this show means to you as well. She told me that people have called her and told her that they’re cancelling their accounts and this is happening fast where people are unsubscribing. Everything we do for this show makes a difference. She told me to lets keep our heads up and stay on the lookout which I won’t say it’s essentially a good thing but we’re doing good. So keep up the good work everyone, lets keep doing this!

Anything is possible.

The customer service line is 1-866-579-7172
PLEASE MAKE SURE TO BE KIND!

Just got back from Beauty and the Beast

and guys, all that stuff about lefou being bad representation? its wrong. throughout the movie, he gets more and more uncomfortable with what gaston is doing, and then, at the end, in the final dance member, they show him dancing with another guy. also, despite the name, hes not at all as foolish as his animated counterpart. hes shown to be more intelligent than a lot of the villagers who follow gaston around, and even switches sides in the big battle, saving the life of a beloved member of the castle servants. hes a good guy, and, honestly, sure, the representation isnt perfect, but i went into that movie expecting him to be the comic relief character bumbling after gaston, and mooning after him. he wasnt. there was definitely something unrequited there, yes, and he did do some things that were questionable, but hes not portrayed as foolish, or evil. hes one of the most developed characters among the villagers, and he even gets at least a hint of a happy ending when he dances in the final dance number. he makes up for all of his ‘evil’ actions, recognizes them as wrong, and gets his happy ending. please, dont boycott this film. its really good.

also, a bonus: the relationship between belle and the beast is actually really well developed and realistic. theyre both very well developed characters, with touching stories and realistic emotions.

tl:dr: lefou isnt portrayed as an idiot and he gets a happy ending with a random background dude, and also the romance between beast and belle is good

How to Steal: Good Writers Borrow

Good writers borrow. Great writers steal. -T.S. Eliot *

This is great writing advice, but many people are wary about following it because they misunderstand what the terms “borrowing” and “stealing” mean in this context.

I’m here to clarify.

Borrowing is using something of someone else’s. Stealing is making something your own.

This advice means two things:

1. Don’t be afraid of reusing elements from books you love.

I’ve spoken before about stealing in How to Steal: Know Your Tropes. When you see story elements** in a book you love, don’t think that they’re now off-limits to you forever. Just because you love The Great Gatsby and it’s set in 1920s New York doesn’t mean that you can now never write a story set in 1920s New York. Just because you love I Capture the Castle and it’s written as the protagonist’s journal, doesn’t mean you can never write a novel that takes the form of the protagonist’s journal. Just because Scooby-Doo… you get my point by now, don’t you?

Take note of what you love in other stories.*** Remember those elements–the plot twists, character arcs, tropes, settings, etc.–and then use them to write a story full of things you love.

2. Make the things you steal your own.

Borrowing, in this definition, would be writing about a 1920s bootlegger in love with the girl across the way, trying desperately to impress her with his wealth. You’re stealing from F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby… and making it no less F. Scott Fitzgerald’s story.

This example steals too much from one place. It’s too timid in it’s approach. it’s too afraid to take anything from the story, so it keeps everything the same. Anything that tries to be like Gatsby, but better is destined to fail. (Maybe a little like Gatsby himself. Just throw a bigger party, old sport! That’ll do the trick!)

The key to stealing is stealing from multiple things at once until it looks like your very own thing. Stealing is writing a novel about a gang of mystery solving teenagers in 1920s New York, told in the form of a journal the group takes turns writing in. (Because we’re going to add a splash of Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants here.)

Stealing is saying: these story elements are mine now and I’m going to use them the way I like, combined with my interests. And you know what? By stealing bits and pieces from all of the things you love, you’re creating something unique and new and wonderful

So go out there. And steal. Never borrow.

*****

*This is commonly attributed to him at least. The internet tells me he definitely said something close to it.

**Obviously, this doesn’t apply to the words themselves. Never steal somebody else’s words. Basically everything else is up for grabs, though.

***You’re not limited to stealing from books. Steal from movies. From TV shows. From plays. From epic poetry. From that anecdote your neighbor told you last week.

💗30 Days of Self Love 💗

This is a 30 day challenge meant to help people improve their self-esteem and learn to love and appreciate themselves a little bit more! You can start this challenge whenever you want, completing each day in the order listed or in whatever order you prefer. If any day is too uncomfortable to complete you can feel free to skip it and come back to it later or just skip it entirely.

If you choose to do this challenge please tag your posts with #30DaySelfLoveChallenge or #30 Day Self Love Challenge so everyone else who is doing it can view all the responses!

💗 Day 01: On a scale from 1-10 (with 1 being “horrible, can’t possibly be any worse” and 10 being “wonderful, can’t possibly be any better”), how would you rate your self-esteem right now? Why would you rate it that way?

💗 Day 02: List out at least 5 accomplishments or achievements you’ve made that you are proud of. These can be small or large, recent or made further back.

💗 Day 03: List out at least 5 non-physical things you like about yourself. These can be personality traits, talents, things you’ve done for other people, etc.

💗 Day 04: List out at least 5 physical things you like about yourself.

💗 Day 05: People are often kinder to others than they are to themselves, so imagine yourself from the perspective of a loved one. If you were your own best friend, what would your outside impression of yourself be?

💗 Day 06: Think of how old you were when you first started struggling with your self-esteem and write a letter of encouragement to your younger self.

💗 Day 07: List out at least 5 compliments people have given you. These can be compliments from people IRL or online and they can be about anything.

💗 Day 08: List out at least 5 good things that have happened recently. These can be things that have happened to you or to someone else or even just good stories you’ve heard in the news.

💗 Day 09: When your emotions get to be too much, what are some healthy things you can do to ground you and help you calm down? List out as many as you can think of.

💗 Day 10: Imagine you have a loved one who is on a long voyage (to sea, outer space, wherever) and misses you desperately. What would they write in a letter to you? What would they miss about you? Write a love letter to yourself.

💗 Day 11: List out at least 5 quotes that inspire you or make you feel happy.

💗 Day 12: List out at least 5 songs that make you happy when you listen to them.

💗 Day 13: Imagine the perfect day. What does it look like for you? Describe the weather, where you’re at, what you’re doing, who (if anyone) you’re with, and how it all makes you feel.

💗 Day 14: Many people have a problem with comparing themselves negatively to others. Take a moment to truly acknowledge the progress you have made in life without comparing that progress to anyone else. How have you become a better person? What hobbies do you have that you’ve improved at? What other areas of your life (no matter how small) have you gotten better in? List out as many examples as you can think of.

💗 Day 15: Being positive towards others can often help people be positive about themselves, so take some time and send anonymous positive messages to at least 10 people. These can be compliments or just a “hope you have a good day!”, to people you follow or just random people in tags you track. Look at how these people react to your messages and describe how it makes you feel.

💗 Day 16: List out at least 5 fictional characters you admire or connect with and describe what it is you admire about them.

💗 Day 17: What is your favorite positive interest or hobby? Describe how you first got into it and what you like about it.

💗 Day 18: List out at least 5 “I will ___” statements that you can apply to your day-to-day life in order to be more positive (example: I will believe people when they compliment me, I will ignore the voice in my head that tells me to doubt myself, etc.).

💗 Day 19: List out at least 5 coping statements. Coping statements are statements you use in order to feel better about yourself/your current state (example: I’m going to be okay, My feelings are difficult but I can handle them, I will survive this situation, etc).

💗 Day 20: Go outside. Use all your senses to observe your environment and identify things around you that you like, that make you feel calm or happy. Describe what those things are, what you see/hear/feel/smell that makes you feel calm or happy.

💗 Day 21: Everyone makes mistakes. What defines people is not that they have made mistakes but that they have learned from them and made an effort to do better in the future. List out at least 1 mistake you have made (using however much or little detail as you feel comfortable with) and describe how you have learned from it and grown as a person after making it.

💗 Day 22: List out at least 5 good deeds you have done for other people. These can be small things or large ones and can be as simple as something nice you’ve done for/said to someone rather than an actual favor.

💗 Day 23: List out at least 5 things that make you laugh. These can be jokes, movies, youtube videos or anything else.

💗 Day 24: What are you insecure about? Divide these things into two lists: things you can change and things you can’t. Now imagine that someone else has made this list. What advice or words of support would you give them about their insecurities?

💗 Day 25: What bad habits do you have? Make a list of them sorted by the ones you think will be easiest to break to the hardest. Beside of each bad habit write out things you can do in order to improve on them or ideas for more positive things you can do as alternatives to whatever the bad habit is.

💗 Day 26: What good habits do you have? What things do you already do that are positive and healthy and how did you come to start doing them? What advice would you give to people who struggle with those things?

💗 Day 27: Imagine your ideal self, focusing mostly on non-physical traits. How would this person feel about themself? What kind of person are they? What kind of friend are they to the people they care about? How is this ideal self different from you as you are now? List out things you can do in order to be more like them.

💗 Day 28: List out at least 5 short-term goals (things you want to do this week/this month/this year) and at least 5 long-term goals (things you want to do in the next 5+ years).

💗 Day 29: List out at least 5 reasons to stay alive.

💗 Day 30: Now that the challenge is over, rate your self-esteem again. On a scale from 1 to 10 (with 1 being “horrible, can’t possibly be any worse” and 10 being “wonderful, can’t possibly be any better”), where is your self-esteem at now? Why would you rate it that way? List out the things you have learned about yourself from doing this challenge and how you can continue to improve your self-esteem from here on out.

Why Dave and Jake should totally be friends
  • Dave would 100% love Jake’s fuckin vocabulary, and, knowing Dave he’d probably pick up some of it too, which would be hilarious.
  • Dave puts on an ironic facade while Jake puts on an adventurer facade, they both use their facades to hide their insecurities and act cocky, they’d be able to relate to each other.
  • Dave’s “I don’t want to be a hero, the idea of heroism is corrupt for me, but I guess I am one anyway” and Jake’s “I want to be a hero like the ones I see in movies, but I always fall short” contrast each other and they could probably help each other with that.
  • Both have had very simmular cases of physical abuse (Bro and Brobot) with clear visual parallels through the comic (See [S] Dave: Strife and [S] Prince of Heart: Rise up. And the couple pages and logs after that)
  • Not to mention issues with Dirk/Bro they could talk about and help each other out with.
  • They could also make fun of Dirk, in a friendly/brotherly way of course. “Haha fuckin’ weeb”.
  • Both were very isolated.
  • Both have hilarious and odd metaphors or terms that they say, even if no one else totally gets them.
  • Jake loves Alpha Dave’s SB&HJ movies, he’d probably love to read Dave’s comics, it’s something they could jam about.
  • Jake’s shitty movie taste combined with the probably hundreds of shitty romcom movies Dave has watched with his boyfriend.
  • Dave would still watch Jake’s shitty movies, even though Dave would enjoy them ironically, unlike Jake.
  • Jake is a huge crybaby while Dave tends to keep it all in (Though, not as much so for Dave after the RetJohn and dating Karkat), they could probably find a good balance.
  • Both of them have some kind of PTSD or at least show signs of it.
2016: The Return To Anime

I used to watch a lot of anime before, but when I moved away from my friends whom were fellow fans of Japanese animation, I became really bad at taking any initiative to sit down and watch anything new. So my New Years resolution was to simply watch more anime during 2016 (for inspiration and entertainment)! ;D And in order to prove to said friends that I am indeed keeping my promise, as well as to take the opportunity to recommend good shows to others, I will be sharing my progress list and general opinions.

OBS: Some of these shows are not appropriate for an younger audience!! Before viewing, please check out  the recommended age restrictions, genre and potential trigger warnings!

END OF YEAR UPDATE: 25 shows in total! Not bad at all considering that I maybe watched 2-3 shows the year before. But I still have a lot of series that I want to see, so don´t be surprised if I make a new post for 2017. ;)

My personal top 3? I would say Death Parade, Re:Zero and Madoka Magica.

ANIME COMPLETED:

Mushishi (S1) - Not a single cliffhanger in the whole show, so it makes for  perfect bedtime stories for teens/adults. The english dub was really good and the landscape art is 10/10.

Kino No Tabi/Kino´s Journey (S1) - Do not let the simple and cute style fool you! This show contains murder, cannibalism, suicide and war!! And it asks the hard questions in life!! RUN if you do not want to contemplate the meaning of existence!!

One Punch Man (S1+3OVA) - OK, now I know why this is in 4th place on IMDB´s “Best TV-series” list. The animation is some of the best I have ever seen in an action anime! It is simply stunning to look at and it is fun ride all the way to the out of this world (literally) finale.

Sakurako-san No Ashimoto Ni Wa Shitai Ga Umatteiru/Beautiful Bones: Sakurako’s Investigation (S1) - Pretty much like an anime version of the TV-show Bones. I love mysteries where you have to follow clues in order to solve a murder so a second season is strongly desired.

Owari No Seraph/Seraph Of The End (S1+S2+10OVA) - Pretty predictable, but the the bloody fight scenes are fabulous. Needs even more angst thou (…she said even though a bunch of children are butchered in the very first episode….). >:3

Death Parade (S1) - And there is all the angst!!! Do not watch if you do not like pain in your soul!! Heart cannot be repaired!! AHRUM!! Excuse me. The show is really well written and the artists really knew how to create the perfect atmosphere to tell this dark story.

Free! (S1+S2+4OVA) - It feels like everyone and their grandmother has seen this show, so of course I fell on the bandwagon. For the first 11 episodes thou I was very neutral to it… But goddammit the first season finale had me sheering, squealing and tearing up!! (Let Rin be happy!!) Sadly only the S2 OVA had me laughing; apart from that episode, the humor was not at all up my alley.

Zankyou No Terror/Terror In Resonance (S1) - I really like the style and the smooth animation in this one. And DANG, THAT ENDING! If you like thrillers that are completely based on reality and science (like Beautiful Bones) then this could be perfect for you.

Wolf’s Rain (S1+4OVA) - I remember trying to watch this when I was like 15, but I never got past episode 3 for some reason. Which is a real shame because I think that I would really, really liked it then. Perfectly angsty and tragic for little wannabe-emo-teen-me. Do you like dark fantasies with pretty people/wolves? Then do not miss out on this one!

Mahon Shoujo Madoka Magica/Puella Magi Madoka Magica (S1+1 movie) - Oh shit. Oh holy shit. I would never have guessed that this show, this thing that looks so darn innocent and cute in design and summary, would have me in so much emotional turmoil (very much like Steven Universe in that way). But seriously; amoungst all of the animes on this list, this is in my opinion the one with the most captivating story-line, plot development and characters (I simply had to watch all 12 episodes in one sitting). Some people hate the ending, but I think it worked really well (even though all the tears could have clouded my judgement). And if you liked the show, then you MUST watch the movie Rebellion! Also: One of the the best English dubs I have ever heard in my life!! UPDATE: I have now seen everything twice… I cry every times I see Homura on screen. (O_Q)

Kuragehime/Princess Jellyfish (S1) - I watched this before when it first came out but I had a hard time remembering anything from it apart from the characters. Glad I gave it a re-watch because it´s super cute and silly; perfect for when you just want to give your feels a break from all the angst and suffering other shows come with (*stares at the one above*). I also highly recommend the live-action movie based on this! :D

Boku Dake Ga Inai Machi/Erased (S1) - This show is both intriguing and stunning! I love how modern animation uses lightning and this show is a good example of that (same goes for Death Parade). Downside: Stress, stress and even more stress!! Please, just let the small children live!!! My heart cannot take this torture!! D,,X But the stress aside, it was all worth it at the end.

Jigoku Shojo/Hell Girl (S1) - My Golb, the young girls in this look exactly like the characters I would draw at 14-16. X,D The animation is just okay, and it takes a long time before we learn anything worthwhile about the main characters. But what made me watch a whole season (26 ep) was because of the interesting stories in each episode. It was fascinating to see how little/much it was required for people to give up their souls for eternal damnation in return for the death of a person they hated.

Steins;Gate (S1+1OVA) - It took me a while to get into the story, but by the half way point, when shit got really intense, I was waaay hooked. I usually do not like stories that involve time-traveling because it makes my head hurt, but this (Like Madoka Magica) was really well written. I have very little to fault the show on ((apart from how the harassment of a trans girl is used for comedy in at least 2 episodes…)) and would recommend!

Love Live! School Idol Project (S1+S2+1 movie) - Decided to watch something really cute with sis again and this is what we ended up with. And oh darn it, it is cute alright! Everything is so sugary sweet and lovely, and good music too that you will hum on for weeks. Apart form the occasional funky looking CGI (which actually looks really good in the movie), the animation is top notch. A simple story about a bunch of girls and their lives and friendships when guys are not in the picture.

Makura No Danshi/Pillow Boys (S1) - Finally met up with my anime loving friends and this was one of the things we saw. The episodes in this are very short, all of which are about different types of guys talking to YOU before you go to sleep. It´s… different to say the least. Who was my favourites? Hmmm… I guess the guy from Ep 2, since I recall him the clearest. He also felt like someone who had known me for a while and I appreciated that. WARNING: Ep 10 did give me some extreme rapist vibes! BAD TOUCH!! (O_O)

Koutetsujou No Kabaneri/Kabaneri Of The Iron Fortress (S1) - If you like bloody action of high quality with humans fighting against superhuman enemies then this is most surely something for you. Many parallels can be pulled to Attack on Titian, but I would never call this a rip-off. All the animation is in the A+ class and there is this wonderful colouring/lighting effect they sometimes use for close ups which makes the characters look absolutely stunning. The level of details on the character designs also stuck out to me (A+ there too).

Shokugeki no Soma / Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma (S1+S2+1OVA) - Also known as food porn. I had never heard of this until Dan and Phil mentioned it in a video and when I understood that it was about food I had to check it out. I love shows/stories that are centered around cooking (Hell´s Kitchen, Master Chef, Kitchen Princess, etc) so I really got hooked on this. Not only is the food animated beautifully, but you learn a lot at the same time. And the absurd (dirty) humor is so redicoulus that I cannot help but laugh.

Re:Zero Kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu / Re:ZERO - Starting Life in Another World (S1) - When I first saw posters for this show they never caught my interest. It looked so much like the generic fantasy harem anime that I just ignored it. But then a friend forced me to actually see it and BOY was I wrong. Let me put it this way: Imagine Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni but with a higher budget and set in a fantasy land. So if you enjoy blood, gore and mind games, check this baby out!

Ghost Hunt (S1) - I know that I had seen this anime when it was new, but apparently I never saw the final episodes of the season since I had no idea what was going to happen. But glad that I saw this again! Not the scariest or goriest show out there, but it is fun and entertaining. My favorite part is how all the characters get along even though they have different beliefs and ways of dealing with the unknown.

Psycho-Pass (S1 + S2 + 1 movie) - Everybody were recommending this show to me and I understand why. There is detective work, blood/gore, and some kick-ass action; just right for me. However, I am not into all the tech porn (you know - when the put so much time and focus on weapons and other technology when they open up, charge, fire, etc. Not my thing!), but it was still a good anime. The only downside was that I felt very little when characters died, which was strange since I usually get attached very easily and morn fictional characters on a regular basis.

Mayoiga / The Lost Village (S1) - Oh maaan. I was expecting something along the lines of Battle Royale, but this was nothing but a big disappointment. There was so much potential in the first episodes for this to become the next Another or Corpse Party, but nooo. Lack of death aside, I guess it had it´s creepy moments, but the finale was not worth the wait in my opinion. I was actually so upset by the final twist that I sat down and basically created an alternative version of the story. Same basic structure, characters, feel and pitch, but with a more classic psychological horror plot. I would also have put the focus on other characters over the two basic cardboard cutouts (I vote for Valkana and Nanko!).

Corpse Party: Tortured Souls - Bougyakusareta Tamashii No Jukyou (5OVA) - I had seen this before when it first came out, but since I am still in a Halloween mood I decided to give it a re-watch. Totally one of those shows that I cannot look away from (not only because I need the subs, but you know what I mean). Spooky details all over the place blended with intestines and body horror. I may not be a big fan of the Elfen Lied-wannabe character designs, but I would totally watch it a third time when I once again forget the ending. I was so shocked that all I could do was to stare at the screen while the credits passed by.

Mira Nikki / The Future Diary (S1) - That moment you like the premise and concept of a show, but dislike the main characters. Damn that moment. It could be that the English dub makes the protagonists seem more douchey than what they actually are in the oringal Japanese version, or it´s just that they are both written poorly (IMO). But I like the background characters and there is some genuine tension throughout the show, so I watched it all.

Yuri!!! On ICE (S1) - I had been looking forward to this since the first trailer, so it was really really hard for me to wait until all episodes had aired before I had a marathon. But gah! It was worth it! There are no cliffhangers no, but the show just makes you feel so warm and fluffy that you want to see more right away. It is a sports anime, but the characters and relationships are so well developed that I would say to give it a chance even if sports isn’t for you. You will still fall in love with everybody and you just want them all to win gold and be happy!!

PS: Oh dear brother of mine, if you are reading this, be prepared for an anime night next time we meet. You and Jorge will love this! ;D

BONUS:

Kimi No Na Wa / Your Name (movie) - Hands down one of the best MOVIES I have seen this year. Well made, a story that pulls you in, heart-wrenching and beautiful music. This is totally up there amongst Wolf Children and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and I will definitely be showing this to all my friends, no matter if they are into anime or not.

Ways Death Note could have been good.

-listen. you don’t have to be true to the source material. you don’t. they already made a movie that kind of was, at least in spirit if not canon matters.

-but if you’re going to make a Death Note remake…there are several ways you could’ve gone about it without it being awful.

-Make Light a privileged white boy? Check. Make L a black man? Ok, good, check. But not make any social commentary about justice, about how African Americans are more likely to be victims of and perpetrators of crime due to economic susceptibility to conditions that result in crime? No.

-see you didn’t have to stick with the source material. you could’ve taken the idea and made it American.

-specifically? gun violence. domestic violence. terrorism. there are so many things you could’ve done if you wanted to put an American spin on death note.

-lots of people were angry about the whitewashing, and yes, i don’t dig it either. BUT if you were going to make it American, then why…why would you make it a pasty white boy’s romantic killing spree with his girlfriend?

-Light Turner looks like a school shooter. I’m sure plenty of white shooters are going to say they went on a shooting rampage cuz a god of death told them too.

-Light Turner ALSO just looks like an idiot who got in over his head and was ultimately a “good” guy who just misjudged and mishandled his notebook.

-like make Light a MAD GENIUS Who goes ALL OUT in killing people. Don’t make him some wuss who can’t handle the pressure, whose girlfriend was the crazy, extremist one all along? like seriously?

-I say that because there is no fucking message when you have Light Turner be the poor helpless victim. There’s no brooding philosophy about being a judge, jury, and executioner. There’s no ideas about whether it’s morally right to kill criminals, to decide whether someone deserves to live or die on your own. All you get to see is this pissbaby cry and have to dig himself out of his own mess, which he abandons the second it gets tough. The original Light Yagami would’ve killed his own father to get away with being Kira. He would’ve killed Misa if it suited his purposes. He was NOT SCARED OF RYUK.

-speaking of Ryuk, they pinned everything on him. WHY. Let Ryuk be an observer. Let HUMANS be the villains. It says something about US. The series explores our sense of right and wrong, of who has the power to decide the fates of others. HAVING AN EVIL DEMON THREATENING A TEENAGER COMPLETELY DERAILS THE IDEA THAT HUMANS HAD CONTROL OF THE SITUATION AND HAD TO MAKE THEIR OWN DECISIONS.

-The romance subplot was so stupid. Misa being love crazy? Fine. But Misa being the main orchestrator and actually being the “real” bad guy? With Ryuk? That’s so fucking weak. Once again, we’re supposed to like Light.

-But we NEEDED a villain protagonist, just like in the original. You didn’t have to stick to the source material, you could’ve given a death note to a different character, to someone with different motivations, written an entirely different story.

-and maybe it would’ve sucked, but at least you wrote something different. But if you’re going to stick to ANYTHING from the original death note, then why would it be a shitty version of the original? Why would it water down every character, make Misa sharper, dumb down Light, and make L an emotional, angry detective who takes revenge in the end? Why? Just write an entirely different story if you’re going to pervert them that much.

-The gore was so uncalled for. Like there was gore in the original, yes. But it had a place. It was part of the death note’s function. it wasn’t meant to be scarier, just intriguing. Part of the suspense. It raised the thrill, like, who’s going to die and how, to further the plot? Who has a hold of the death notes? Who’s being controlled by one? But in the movie, they just utilized gore for shock factor. To make Ryuk look evil. To make the death note look like some menacing source of paranormal malevolence.

-Light’s father was an idiot who over-reacted a lot instead of a sensible and just police man who just wanted to do his job and take down a killer. No superstitions, no waffling, and while he didn’t believe his son was Kira, he didn’t refuse to entertain the very notion. He was practical. This guy…was an asshole.

-Also I found the high school setting insulting. Please god, no fucking “bullies are everywhere” bullshit? Set Death Note in college, you assholes. Make Light be a disillusioned college student with college debt or some shit.

-OR a privileged kid with a scholarship, who has everything he wants but is “bored” because he’s never had to struggle a day in his life.

-Death Note could’ve been about white privilege and race politics. I mean come on, it’s a concept based on CRIME an about whether or not people “deserve” to be punished.

-It could’ve been good. It could’ve been RESPECTABLE at least. Tried to tell an American story, one that reflects our distrust of the militarized police, the beaten protesters, the movements to end inequality.

-SOMETHING.

-But instead they went for horror movie…for indie teen romance…and “betrayed” hearts.

-They almost had something with  L…and then they ruined it.

-I’m still tilted, it’s 3am.

anonymous asked:

Do you have any advice on what to do if you lose your joy and interest in writing when a writer was how you identified yourself?

(wry look) Life just pulled one of those cute things where I had three-quarters of a response written and I hit the wrong keys somehow and it all went away. Which tells me that this is important. So let me recreate it.

The best advice I’ve got for you right now is to lean back and wait, because normally the joy and interest will come back. Being a writer, and having enjoyed and been interested in it previously, isn’t something that goes away all that easily. The set of behaviors that make up being a writer are complex and difficult to ingrain… which is going to make the ability to do this kind of work difficult to lose even if you were trying to do so. So, first of all: take heart.

Now it has to be said that, human nature and psychology (and nature itself) being the cranky intransigent things they sometimes are, it may (paradoxically) be necessary for your recovery of your joy and interest in the work to completely surrender to the concept that you might actually have permanently lost it. I know this sounds counterintuitive, but the effectiveness of simply giving up is sometimes surprising.  There’s a saying attributed to Carl Jung, the father of the concept of Archetype as we now understand it, that goes like this: “What you resist, persists; and not only does it persist, but it gets bigger in size.” (There’s a good long article about this concept over here in Psychology Today: worth looking at. …Though I also have to say that the illo at the top is hilarious and perfect, because Kylo Ren should frankly be the poster child for the whole idea.)

My own experience suggests that there are times when as soon as you give up, the thing that’s been eluding you either collapses to the ground where you can just stroll over and reclaim it, or turns around and runs headlong into your arms. Frustrating, but what can you do? When the whole point is to get whatever it is back, the idea that it played you a little in the process will after the fact seem less of an issue.

Possible causes for what’s going on with you are worth touching on briefly. I’ve had occasion to post a number of times about something that C. S. Lewis codified in The Screwtape Letters as “the Law of Undulations”. Now as much as I love him, there would be a lot of things that Clive and I would disagree about, but this wouldn’t be one of them. I think he was really onto something. So take a look at that basic post, and then we can move on a bit.

With the Law in mind, while you’re working on what “giving up” might look like – assuming you need to go that far – here are some possibly similar situations and strategies to consider.

Some of the above situations come with suggestions of possible things you can do about them. But do not underestimate the power of simply waiting a while and not doing anything. It’s worth emphasizing that in our culture as it stands at the moment, there’s endless emphasis on immediately DOING THINGS to fix what ails you. Sometimes not doing anything is more effective – though to some people that’s going to sound heretical, and you’ll run the risk of being accused of laziness (not least by the back of your own mind, once it realizes you’re onto something that’s going to give you back control of the situation. The self-sabotaging wiliness of a subconscious about to lose its advantage can be a terrifying thing… but even that loses some of its terrors when your conscious mind suspects or knows what it’s up to.) Anyway, ignore that noise.

Give doing nothing a good long chance. Stoke up on your reading. Get caught up on TV and movies if that’s your thing. Do other work. Create something that isn’t writing. (Cooking’s good for this. I love being responsible for mighty successes or godawful failures in the kitchen and knowing that the critics at Kirkus and PW are not going to give the slightest damns about it.)

But tl:dr; Don’t despair: just kick back and wait. And see how it goes.

…And eventually let me know how you get on. :)  HTH.

Oh, sleepovers. Nothing is better than spending a night with your bestfriends overdosing on junk food, laying around in your most comfortable and embarrassing pajamas and watching five movies in a row. Sleepovers can either be extremely relaxing or hard to recover from, but they are so funny and irreplaceable that I personally think there should be an international Sleepover Night.

Movies, obviously, are a must-be according to the Sleepover Bible (made up by me right now), but sometimes it can be hard to choose what to watch. I guess one of the best ways to decide is having a marathon or establishing a theme: you can watch the whole Harry Potter/Pirates of the Caribbean/Star Wars saga, go for a tv series like Friends or Grey’s Anatomy or follow a fil rouge that links together a few films.

What I’m proposing you today is one of my favourite themes: teen movies from 1990 to 2000. Beside being extremely funny and unmissable if you are a movie amateur, they definitely left a mark in the filmmaking history, defining a generation not so far in time from ours. They can also teach you something about style or pop culture, so you have no excuses left not to watch them!

JAWBREAKER (1999)

People worshipped them and cursed them, but everybody wanted to be them .

In Jawbreaker you have all the ingredients for a classic teen movie: a high school, a popular and mean clique of Queen Bees, a kind-hearted girl loved by everyone, a prom, hot guys - with the only exception that this is not a classic teen movie.

Jawbreaker is a dark comedy and (surprise!) it involves a kidnapping, a death and police investigations. Written and directed by David Stein, the movie revolves around the “Flawless Four” of Reagan High School, Los Angeles:  Courtney Shayne, Marcie Fox, Julie Freeman and Elizabeth Purr. They all rule the school with a terror regime, except for Liz. She is not as mean as her friends and makes no differences in relating with others - her beauty and honesty, then, make her the most loved and admired girl.

Obviously, this generates jealousy in Courtney, Marcie and Julie, who decide to prank their friend on seventeenth birthday, by performing a fake kidnapping. They take her off guard early in the morning, binding her with ropes and pushing a jawbreaker candy into her mouth. The girls lock Elizabeth in the trunk of a car and drive towards the mall to celebrate their friend’s brithday with breakfast. However, once they open the trunk, the sight is definitely not what they expected it to be…

Jawbreaker is worth watching not only for the twisted, surprising plot and the iconic (and definitely realistic) language used by the girls, but also because it explores the dynamics of a group of girls with the voice of an outsider, Fern Mayo, who finds herself involved in the events against her will. This movie is gonna make you laugh, startle and maybe regret not living in 1999.

Cruel Intentions (1999)

In the game of seduction there’s only one rule: never fall in love.

Drugs, sex, a hot step-brother, games of seduction, classy and total black outfits, rich mansions. If you like this list, Cruel Intentions is the perfect movie for you. Beside having an incredibly attractive cast, a young Reese Witherspoon included, its plot twists the usual “mean clique” dynamics.

Set in a wealthy Manhattan, the film is about an oddly assorted couple: Sebastian Valmont and his step-sister Kathryn Merteuil. He’s well known for his countless sexual conquers and seductive manners, which perfectly match Kathryn’s inner wickedness and malice - but they always both manage to get away with it thanks to their fascinating looks and charming attitudes.

The tight relationship between the two not only sees them accomplices in many misdeeds, but also gives rise to explicit sexual innuendos, as Sebastian’s not-so-secret fantasy is to sleep with Kathryn. Despite wishing the same, the girl likes to play it hard to get, so she decides to set up a bet: if Sebastian will be able to seduce Annette Hargrove, Kathryn will have sex with him - otherwise, she’ll get his vintage Jaguar. It’s not as easy as it seems: Annette is the daughter of their school’s headmaster and has recently written an article on saving her virginity for marriage.

As the time goes by and the relationship with Annette develops, Sebastian will find his controversial morals hardly tested. He’ll also have to manage the seduction of the young and naive Cecile, the new girlfriend of Kathryn’s ex, and he’ll be soon torn between his usual lifestyle and a wager maybe too hard to win, even for his unbeaten ego.

Cruel Intentions is weird, explicit, somehow shocking. It points out the differences between boys and girls as it comes to sex, providing a few interesting reflections under a chic, witty and dark atmosphere. Kathryn’s outfits are ICONIC and the movie will make you want more - and you’re lucky, because there are a prequel and a sequel.

Clueless (1995)

Dear diary, I’m more fabulous than five minutes ago.

I don’t even know how to start with this and if you’ve never seen Clueless before… oh my gosh, you can’t imagine what you’ve missed. This movie is p-e-r-f-e-c-t!

Yes, we have a Queen Bee, Cher, with her sidekick Dionne. And yes, she’s vain and superficial. But she is funny, gorgeous, good natured, harmless and extremely relatable. You could easily make any quote from her character yours, really. She’s crazy wealthy and lives in a mansion in Beverly Hills, obviously being the most popular girl at school.

The movie explores Cher’s life and her attempts at making “good deeds”, showing how her attitude is more innocent than biased. She decides to give Tai Frasier, a “tragically unhip” girl, a makeover aimed at initiating her into the popular universe of their high school; she tries to act as cupid and match two professors (also to raise her grades); all of this, just for the sake of “giving back to the community”.

Cher’s hilarious adventures continue as she finds herself facing a new, attractive boy at school, her annoying stepbrother, the driving license exam and other teenage things we’ve all been through. I loved this movie because she’s fierce and self confident in a positive way, for once - and I won’t even mention the outfits of almost every character, which I’ve seen more than once reinterpreted in the latest collections of many fashion brands. And let me add that Alicia Silverstone’s facial expressions are the best thing in the world… In a few words: watch it. You won’t absolutely regret it.

The Craft (1996)

“You girls watch out for those weirdos” - “We are the weirdos, mister”

Everyone loves a bit of magic. Candles, chanting odd words, summoning the supernatural, meeting in the middle of the night - all things you probably don’t do but that still sound fascinating and attractive, especially if you are a young girl with a mysterious past in a new school where you know no one.

This is how it goes for Sarah Bailey once she arrives to the catholic academy of St. Benedict, Los Angeles. A group of outcasts, with difficult, gloomy lives and rumored to be practicing witchcraft, notices that Sarah is not as normal as she seems, thus luring her into joining their coven. The powers of the four girls reach a whole new level as they try to fix their messy lives and make up for any wrong that had been unfairly done to them.

However, nothing is easy when it comes to unearthly powers - the group will face difficult personal struggles and they will soon understand that everything comes with a price.

This thriller will open your eyes on the hard life of social rejects in a surreal way, making you think twice before exposing someone not as lucky as you - you never know what may be their revenge. I loved The Craft because it explores a different side of the world depicted in the movies listed above - it gives voice to the unheard and shows things from a different point of view.

10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

But mostly, I hate the way I don’t hate you, not even close.

Sisters can be so different. Take Bianca and Kat Stratford, for example. One is popular, beautiful, admired and elegant, the other is a smart, casual, ironic bookworm. Cameron James (and adorable Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is head over heels for Bianca as soon as he sees her, but he’s warned by a friend that the girl’s father doesn’t allow her to date anyone. This doesn’t only upset Cameron, but Bianca as well - that’s why before the prom she quarrels with her dad until he agrees on letting her go at one condition: Kat has to find a boyfriend and go to the prom, too, causing Bianca to become furious since her sister will never want to be with someone.

Cameron finds out about the new rule and decides to find a boy who will date Kat, so then he’ll be able to go out with Bianca. The mission seems impossible, but of course we have Heath Ledger, in the role of Patrick Verona, who once again becomes the hero and (obviously with a heavy salary) agrees on trying.

Will the mission stay professional? Will Kat resist to Patrick’s charm or will she be trapped by the good-looking outcast as bitter as she is? Will Bianca go to prom with Cameron? You need to watch the movie to find out. This is one of my favourite ones, I’ve seen it at least three times and it’s just great - I always like watching the development of a romantic relationship, because each one is different from the other. And the singing scene on the bleachers? Iconic.

Romeo + Juliet (1996) - trailer

If love be rough with you, be rough with love.

Do I even have to say something?? I mean, Leo DiCaprio, Shakespeare’s most known masterpiece, love and death, Baz Luhrmann. This is enough, isn’t it?

Romeo + Juliet is the modernized and adapted version of the famous, tragic love story. It’s visionary, surreal, heartbreaking and it should be seen at least once a week because it’s just too much. It is set in a imaginary Verona Beach, where the adventures and deeds of two families in war intertwine with the forbidden love affair of a young boy and girl. The plot follows Shakespeare’s script, but you won’t find swords or horses. Guns and sportscars, gas stations and a swimming pool are just a few of the innovative twists Luhrmann has used in this dreamy and loud film.

“Look at him! Look!”

You were jolted awake by a yelp, followed by the sound of a young male yelling and people murmuring. Quickly moving the book off your lap, you stood up from the library floor and made your way to the where the commotion was coming from. You see Nolan, your boyfriend of almost a year, gripping Corey’s wrist in one of his hands, and a pen with blood covering the tip in his other.

Your eyes widen as you understood what Nolan had done and without a thought you quickly walk over to him. Nolan’s attention was averted from Corey’s ability to heal from a stab in less than 5 seconds to the sound of your heeled boots clicking against the wood floor, as he looked up at you. On your face he noticed a mixture of emotions; fear, worry, anger.

“Nolan, what the hell?!” you pried his hand from Corey’s wrist and dragged him out of the library, to the parking lot where you stopped, pinched the bridge of your nose and took a deep breath. “What were you thinking? You’re gonna get suspended!”

“(Y/N), you don’t understand! I’m trying to prove it.” Nolan stuffed his pen into his backpack and took a step towards you. But just as he took a step forward, you took one backwards.

“Prove what?” you shook your head as you scoffed.

“Corey isn’t just human. You’ve seen him disappear and then appear out of nowhere. Neither is Liam, haven’t you seen him throw a lacrosse ball into the net and it just– it just pierces through? And you know that the “wolf” on the lacrosse field the other night wasn’t just a “wolf”. And what about the thing in the lib-”

“Nolan, just let it go, please.” You stepped forward until you reached him and took his hands in yours, rubbing his fingers gently with your thumb. He roughly broke out of your hold and slammed a fist against the school wall.

Raising your children with Chris Evans:

Inspired by some conversations I’ve had with @ohevansmycaptain and @chrisevans-imagines over the last few weeks/months. Also, do yourself a favor and READ their work, it’s worth it. Please. There’s so much talent.

Previous headcanons: Your Relationship | Your Wedding | Your Pregnancy

• Chris wants to have four children, but you want two, so you both compromise and go for three adorable children.
• Two handsome boys and a beautiful girl who has his eyes. Chris calls your sons ‘buddy’ or whatever funny and loving nickname he has in mind and your daughter is called 'Little Princess’ because he thinks she deserves the world.
• Chris tries to be the best father he can be, raising your children happy and healthy. His main goal is never failing as a dad, always being there for them.
• You can spend hours with them playing around the house: they love 'hide-and-seek’ and a game called 'Monster’. Chris introduced this game to you and your children, saying he and his siblings used to play this game with their mother a lot during his childhood.
• One word: Disney. Disney is basically directing your life. Your children are raised with Disney everywhere and they love it as much as their father. You thought it was impossible, but it is.
• Chris watches the Patriots’ matches with them and he’s extremely proud when your young daughter says Tom Brady is her favorite player.
• Your children can play the mechanics or basketball together, but also tea party games.
• You admire them secretly from a corner of the room while Chris has this sheepish smile on his face and he always ends up playing the host of the party.
• There are lots and lots of bedtime stories!
• Prank wars that start ‘every man for himself’, but you end up teaming up with Chris to catch your kids running around the house until…
  - “Chris, you traitor!”
  - “Sorry, babe, but our son made his best puppy eyes. Couldn’t say no.”
• Chris can be quite strict some rare times, but he is very entertaining and he takes the time to study with them.
• Sometimes, you both decide to deal with issues as the bad cop and the good cop.
• You don’t punish them, but you give them this look that says everything is over when they are trying to do something wrong. It works perfectly, even with your husband.
• Chris is very protective of you and your children. He keeps them away from the spotlight and even if he loves being an actor, he’d rather stay at home with all of you than being on a red carpet or promote a new movie. Convenience is an afterthought when privacy is king.
• Disney World, at least three times a year when they aren’t at school yet.
• You teach them love, tolerance and to accept the differences between the opinions. You teach them to fight for what is right and never give up even if failing isn’t a big deal. They can always try again and do better.
• Education is very important to you and you support your children’s choices of careers. You’re both very involved in this part of their lives because you want to guide them through.
• They are very competitive, loud and stubborn… like their father! But they try to admit their mistakes right away. You suppose it has something to do with their Irish and Italian origins as Chris likes to say so.
• A lot of: it’s a simple phase, honey when they are teenagers.
• You teach them how to respect their future s/o and tell them they can talk to you if they are feeling insecure.
• Chris tends to overprotect your daughter when years pass and she gets attention from men.
  - “Sweetheart, look at this! That guy is kissing our daughter on the porch of our house.”
  - “You know him, Chris. He’s her boyfriend… and she’s twenty-five!”
  - “But she’s still my Little Princess.”
• You both are extremely happy when you hear that your elder son is expecting his own first child. That’s what you aspired to live as parents and now future grandparents.
• You are proud of whom your children are becoming and you don’t worry about their future anymore.

My wee little brother is finally going to be a freshman in college (I’m so proud :’)) and was asking me for advice the other day. It occurred to me that most of the advice I heard going into uni was stuff like “you can’t live on ramen” and “don’t strangle your roommate in their sleep.”

Solid, but also fairly common sense. I felt that most “college guides” didn’t address the real challenges I ended up facing with school and academia my freshman year, and there was other important but overlooked advice one should keep in mind. So I wrote this for him, and might as well publish it here, as a guide to any incoming freshman on The Real Things You Need To Know For College.

- Go. To Fucking. Office Hours. Especially if you’re writing a paper. Be not afraid of professors, they are nerds who want to talk this one really specific thing they’ve been working on for a decade and want to help you. I used to be afraid of office hours but now I practically live in them, ending up in some office or another talking about research projects and readings at least twice a week. Most professors love engaged & interested undergrads, and will talk you to your grave if you let them. I’ve never regretted an office hour visit.

- If you plan to go to grad school, get involved in research early and stay involved. This is easier than you think - keep an eye out for opportunities and take chances on applying to things - and GO. TO. OFFICE. HOURS. Ask profs if they know any projects you can be involved in. Ask your advisor. Ask your T.A. Let people know you’re interested.

- If you’re not going to grad school, *get an internship.* Make sure you get course credit for it if it’s not paid. Unpaid internships suck esp on top of school and jobs, but they make a huge difference when it comes to experience, your resumé, and figuring out what you want to do.

- Sometimes college is going to suck. Sometimes it’s going to be 3am and you’re at the library too broke to afford coffee, considering sleeping on the chair. Sometimes you’ll be taking 18 hours, working two jobs, and running an organization and can’t remember the last time you called your mama. Those are the most important moments of college, if you ask me. They test if you really want to be doing what you’re doing, if you’re willing to push yourself to the brink for it, or are just doing it bc it’ll make you money or your parents said so.

- If you don’t want to be doing what you’re doing, it’s okay. Talk to people about it. Reach out to professors, classmates, people in your major, and counseling and career services. People want to help you, whether you’re changing paths or turning down a side road, and their guidance will be a blessing in a troubled time.

- Don’t skip class. Just don’t. Go to even the most boring, read-off-slide-doesn’t-take-attendance class. Don’t let people tell you skipping your whole semester’s worth of classes is normal, because it’s not. You’re paying for these courses. I have anxiety, I know what it’s like to be so paralyzed you can’t even get out of bed, but make yourself at least show up, even if you’re in sweatpants-sweatshirt-no-bra spending the whole class writing on your computer. At least you’re there.
Skipping one “mental health break” class isn’t terrible but it’s a slippery slope that I’ve seen more people fall down than not. Do what’s healthy for you, and talk to student counseling if you really are having trouble wanting to go to class, but try your very best to attend every single one.

- And beyond all this, the biggest advice I could give is to have a life outside of college. If you’re taking 15+ hours and working in labs or on campus, your whole life becomes the university. It can quickly start to get overwhelming, like you can’t escape. Do something for yourself - I knit and listen to audiobooks or podcasts for at least four hours a week, as well as blog, and honestly that’s what keeps me sane. Take up ice skating at the local rink every week or plan dinner and movie dates with friends. Join a church group or start crafting or fishing or something equally quirky. Give yourself something that’s not school (and not drinking/partying) to look forward to, and it’ll make all the difference in the world.

You’re My First - Clay Jensen Smut

WARNINGS: Smut, swearing

“What do you want to watch princess?”

“I don’t care, you can pick whatever.” I’m laid up with Clay in his room as he surfs the guide. It’s a Saturday night and I rather be with my boyfriend than home alone. Granted we are alone right now, being that his parents are out at some function, but at least we are alone together. I trace circle on his clothed chest as his eyes are focused on the TV, finding something to watch. I can tell that he is pretending to be into the TV so that he doesn’t need to focus on my hand against him. I snuggle more into him as he sucks his teeth.

“There are no good movies on babe” he says, throwing the remote down as the TV stopped on Full House.

“Then we don’t watch TV, we can do something else anyway” I say, as I slide my hand under his shirt. He looks a little nervous as he looks down at my hand.

“Like what?” He sounded a little nervous, but flirty at the same time. I move my leg across his torso and put my lips up to his ear.

“Anything.” I pur. He looks down at me, his eyes on mine. His eyes flicker down to my lips and I know he wants nothing more than to feel my lips on his. As if he read my mind, he pulled my face up to his, pressing his lips onto mine. The kiss was nice and slow. It’s like our lips were made for each other. His tongue grazed my bottom lip as he asked for an entrance. I didn’t allow him in to tease him and he squeezed my thigh making me yelp. When I opened my mouth he stuck his tongue in, softly wrestling with mine. I rolled on top of him and sat on his lap, never breaking our kiss. The kiss suddenly went from slow and sweet to more rougher and needy. Clay’s hands were on my waist as I wrapped my arms around his neck, deepening the kiss. When I started to slowly move my hips against his, Clay suddenly withdrew from me.

“What’s wrong, why’d you stop” I pant as he avoided my eyes. When he didn’t say anything, I got worried.

“Did I do something?” I ask. His eyes found mine again and quickly shook his head.

“No no no, god no. It’s just I’m getting a little um..a little-”

“Horny” I smirk, looking down between us and seeing him semi-hard. He looked embarrassed and nodded his head. A giggle at his nervous state.

“So what babe.”

“I don’t want you to think I’m rushing you.” He said looking down.

“Last time I checked, we are both virgins. And what if I’m ready.” His eyes widen and he swallowed hard.

“A-are you sure, cause I’m not rushing at all trust me, I can wa-” I stop him from rambling on by crushing my lips on his.

“Clay, I love you and I’m ready. I mean if your not that’s fi-”

“No! I am, it’s just we don’t have to. It won’t make me love you any less if we don’t.” I smile at his cuteness and press my forehead against his.

“I’m ready Clay.” I pull on his shirt so that our lips collide again. Feeling his body against mine made me loose the fear in the moment and only made me want him more. I pull away to take my shirt off as he took off his. He stared at my bra and looked away when he noticed I saw. I pulled his faced back towards me and smiled.

“I’m all yours Clay.” With that, his mood lightened up as his hands cup both of my breast squeezing. I threw my head back as I felt his lips on my neck, sucking lightly.

“Your so beautiful y/n.” He unclasped my bra and I suddenly felt so exposed and nervous. He can tell I felt weird by my face.

“Don’t be shy about your body, you look amazing.” I smiled and loosened up as his lips went to my breast. His lips attacked one of my nipples, while softly massaging the other. I bit my lip to keep me from moaning as his sucking got more harsh, making my core wet. I started to hump back and forth on his now rock hard member, making him groan against my breast making me moan. The friction beneath us was killing me and I want nothing more than to take everything off. I unbuckled his belt and pulled his pants down as far as I could without moving off his lap.

“Clay can I try something?” I pant as his sucking went from my breast to my neck, surely leaving like 10 bruises.

“What is it babe?” He said, not breaking his series of kisses.

“I-I um want to please you..” I felt his kissing stop as he stayed there, probably waiting for me to finish, or just not knowing what to say. Probably both.

“You know..please you down there.” I felt so shy asking him, but I really wanted to make him feel good like he does to me. I just want to do it in a more intimate way.

“U-um I don’t know y/n, you don’t need t-”

“I want to.” He looks at a lost for words, debating on what to say. When we takes to long, I just take matters into my own hands. I slide off of him, sliding his pants all the way down, along with his underwear. When I did, his dick sprung all the way up, smacking again his stomach. I positioned myself so that I was in between his legs with my butt in the air, looking up at him.

“Y/n stop you don’t hav-” I quiet him by slowly taking his entire member into my mouth, almost gagging. I come back up, licking his tip while pumping him with my hand.

“Oh my-” Clay’s eyes were shut tight as he threw his body back. I flattened my tongue against the side of his shaft before taking him in my mouth again, pumping in and out faster.

“Fuck babe, that feels good” He’s a moaning mess above me as he looks down at me sucking him. His eyes are glued to mine as I look up at him through my eyelashes, pumping my hand faster. He’s a groaning mess as he continues to do a string of curses. Unaware of what he’s doing, Clay starts thrusting into my mouth, making me even more wet. He grabs my ponytail and that was my motivation to go faster. I take all of him in my mouth, not caring that I was gagging, as I started picking up my speed. I start to moan with him still inside me and that threw him over the edge.

“Fuck! y/n I’m about t-” He doesn’t know what to do with his hands as he releases inside of my mouth. I swallow what’s left as he pulls me up to him, kissing me passionately, still panting.

“Sorry that I did that, I should have told you I was…you know.” I smirk at what he was trying to say, “That’s okay, I liked it.”

Clay turns us over and starts peppering kisses down my neck. He kisses all the way to my stomach as he pulls my underwear off. He comes back to my lips, smashing his with mine, his hands roaming all over my naked body. He stops and looks at me.

“Are you sure about this?” He asked genuinely.

“More sure than anything.” I smiled. He pulled off of me and got something from his desk draw. When he came back, he hovered back over me, pulling on a condom. When he started having trouble pushing it on, I held in my giggle, stopping his hands.

“Let me help.” I unraveled it, slowly pushing it on his member, making sure to lightly squeeze him in the process, making him groan. I wanted this, his body on mine.

“I’ll be gentle” he breathed, his voice soft, “Just tell me if it hurts.” I pulled his face closer to me, making that as a sign for him to go. He starts to slowly push into me, giving me this stretching and ripping feeling throughout my body. I try to adjust to him as he continues pushing in slowly. I squeeze my eyes shut, gasping into his mouth as I grabbed his arms tightly. I whimpered as I just waited for the pain to go away. He pulled away from my lips as he looked at me.

“Is this okay?” he pants, looking at my face for any bad reaction. I nod my head, wanting him to keep going.

“Yes baby, keep going.” I try to focus on the pleasure, even though I can still very much feel the pain. I was slightly tense and as if Clay sensed that, he started dropping kisses against my jawline, making me more relaxed. I started grinding my hips up against his and wrapped my legs around his back. He started thrusting a little faster, his eyes shut as he started groaning. I moan, tilting my head back into the pillows. As his speed picked up, the pain slowly subsided, giving me nothing but pleasure. I felt his weight on me, his body against mine and I realized just how much he meant to me.

“Fuck princess, you feel amazing” he moans into my neck. I tighten my grip around my neck, moaning into his ear.

“Baby f-faster please” I whimper. He did just that, his thrust getting deeper and deeper. His body slap against mine and all I can hear are our loud moans and the headboard against the wall. He picked up his speed even more making me dig my nails into his back, surely leaving a mark.

“Fuck baby!” He screams, drilling into me. My breast are jumping up and down as I scream louder, the pleasure becoming overpowering.

“Clay! oh my god!” The faster his thrust got, the more I felt my stomach clench up. My body started to stiffen as he kept pushing in and out of me, on and on.

“Come for me baby” he whispers and I let go.

“Fuck Clay!” My body went limp as I exploded. He kept pumping through my orgasm as I squeeze around him and in the same second, he screamed out my name, releasing himself. With both of us still panting and breathing heavily, I open my eyes to see Clay staring back at me. He slides off of me, laying his head on my bare chest. I run my hands threw his hair, kissing it after.

“That was amazing babe” I breath out, earning a nod from him.

“If that was amazing, wait till next time.”

How to “kill” the “middle stage”

I asked @y3lir-europe if i can write a 2nd part to this post  and he accepted, so thank you again. He focused on the fact that you need to learn more vocabulary and also the importance of recognizing what weaknesses you have, so i won’t cover that in my post. However, i’ll add some strategies and i’ll also add some suggestions on how to choose the right kind of vocabulary.

For the 2nd point of his post:

Start figuring out what you know and don’t know and want to know. Similar to a pros and cons list you are acknowledging what you can already do in your language, what you don’t know, and what you want to know. That way you can smoothly go into learning.

A pros and cons list is an amazing idea and after you are done, you just have to think of ways how to solve that.

Since many people don’t feel motivated to do so because they will get out of their comfort zone and they want more like a book or a person to tell them what to do and how, i’ll make a motivational part at the end of this post.

Number3: Vocabulary!!!! Seriously, even though you are past the beginning level the real reason you are stuck is because you need more to work with. Try learning more advanced vocabulary. Medical terms, organs/bones, space, etc.

He is right here. However, you already know around 2.000 words so you will be wondering how you decide what to learn. Easy, you are going to use your preferences. Let’s say you’re a Harry Potter fan, can you talk about wizards, unicorns, dragons, magic? Then next week you focus only on this kind of vocabulary. Let’s think of other situations, you like makeup/cars/books, can you talk about them? And not in general “i like red cars”, i mean, talking about parts of the cars/books, what you’re doing with that makeup like blending and so on. Think what you usually like talking about and then make a list with what kind of vocabulary you need, in this way, you learn words that interest you not only random advanced vocabulary.

Number 4: Be creative. Try to learn how to play with the words you know. Learn how to speak in sarcasm, or with idioms. Learn some metaphors and similes. Try to find fun ways to use your language.

He’s right again, this is the time when you can start learning idioms! If you write “idioms in language” you will probably get a long list with suggestions. Make a course on memrise or quizlet, learn what interests you out of all these idioms.

Here i’m done with quoting y3lir and start writing my ideas.

Goals

Do you have a goal in your target language? Goals as “i want to be fluent” won’t work. Why? They are vague, so little details, you need something specific like “i want to be C1 by the end of the year”. After you have a goal, set some tiny ones like “i want to read 1 comic in Spanish by the end of the week”, “i want to understand what this songs says in 2 days” or maybe “i want to have a conversation for 10 minutes with an advanced learner/native”. Don’t forget to celebrate these mini goals, they will give you some motivation.

Variety

You got used to a routine by now. You probably have your favourite method of studying like duolingo, memrise, classes etc. You’re in a comfort zone and that won’t help you at all. I love and envy those people who have Nth days on duolingo, they can do something which i don’t, maintain a routine. However, i respect those people who give no damn about having a certain number of days on duolingo and memrise. They can’t use only those methods, they prefer variety and that’s helpful because they don’t get in a comfy zone. Now, if you really like the green owl, don’t give up at it. Keep duolingo and memrise in your routine but add something that will spice up your schedule. Add some activities that you haven’t tried before or you haven’t focused on them much. Talk to someone in your target language for 5 minutes, read a comic/book/story, play word games, watch a movie, write a short story, look around and name what you see and so. Have at least 1 activity that will be changed daily and that focuses on your weak spots.

Competition

Have you ever been around someone who is better than you at something? In such moments i want to improve, to be just as good if not better. I know that they worked a lot to be so good at that something and i want to do the same. Try to study with someone who is better than you at a language, or just talk to someone who is. Not only that they might motivate you a lot, but they can also correct your mistakes and maybe suggest you some solutions, they have been there already.

Challenge yourself

You might understimate yourself. Set a goal or a challenge that you think it’s difficult to achieve and try to finish what you are going to start. You might think that reading an entire book is difficult, then choose a story/comic/fanfic/article and read that. Next time, you choose another story/comic/fanfic/article and so on until you gain enough confidence and you can start reading that scary book.

Motivation

At the beginning of this post, i said something about a game. I can’t focus on tasks for a long time because i get easily bored and many people just hate to have a routine so i thought that a rewarding system will work. “You want something? You should study for it.” that’s what i had in mind when i came up with this game.

Basically, whatever you want (book, chocolate, a trip to Sweden, shoes etc.) has a number of points. I thought that 50pts should be the smallest amount of points for something. And there’s no “the highest amount of pts” thing.

Let’s say you want a book, that’s 250pts. (you set the points, but try not to be too harsh with yourself, you want to get motivated, not to study until you die). In order to get that book you decide to learn 10 new words (10*10=100 pts), to read 2 pages from a book and to write down the unknown words (25*2= 50pts), to watch a movie in your target language (50pts) and to learn 5 idioms (5*25=125) and you got 325 pts, you get your book and next time when you want something you already have 75pts.

University AU

Pairing: Peter Parker x Reader

Warnings: Language? Lightly smutty

Word Count: 3, 475

Summary: The reader is friends with benefits with Peter

Masterlist

A/N: I’ve been obsessed with this song for a while and listening to it just sparked the idea for this piece. It’s not so much an AU as it is a few years in the future and I wanted to explore the friends with benefits dynamic with Peter Parker because it seems out of character for him but not impossible. I actually started writing this a few months ago but didn’t get around to finishing it until 3am this morning. Hopefully it turned out okay!

Peter Parker and I went to the same high school and were sort of friends but really only became close once we started university. We had a few classes together, being in the same program and all, so I was glad to see a familiar face in the intimidating large classes full of people who were just as smart, if not smarter than us.

University is tough, especially when you’re constantly trying to keep the city a safe place all the while keeping your GPA up. Classes being much more fast-paced than high school took a toll on him. He was so busy that he started falling behind on some of the course material which is when we started studying together a lot. I helped him catch up, he learned quick. He was really good at problem solving and understanding complex math problems, so we helped each other out. With all the time we spent together on breaks, taking turns grabbing coffees and muffins for each other before a class or work, not to mention hours of studying, we became pretty close.

Movie nights.

Movie nights with Harry were always the same. He would come to your house or you would go to his and he would be all excited and happy that he would spend the night with you and with a good movie as well. He was the one who had a say in which movie you would watch and you were perfectly fine with that.

On the other hand, you would always choose what snacks would keep your tummies full during the movie. Pizzas, ice cream, popcorn and other fattening items were always the first options. This made Harry feel a bit odd, because he was used to eating healthy most of the time. But with you, this was not the case.

Of course, your movie spots would be ready some time ago in order not to waste any time when the movie would start. Your spot was the same every night; on the couch, with many cushions, especially when the movie was a horror one so that you had something to shelter your eyes when a horrifying scene came up on the screen. Blankets were also surrounding you two, to protect you from the cold of the winter when it was winter. Harry would always make a cheeky remark such as “Why do yeh need this blanket? I am here to make yeh warm” or  “Isn’t my body warm enough fo’ yeh pet?”. These comments would instantly plant a smile on your face.

During your movies, Harry was the watcher and you were the sleeper. Most of the time. You hated the fact that sleep was just around the corner for you because that meant that Harry would make fun of you at least for a week. For Harry though, you being the sleeper, was something he always took advantage of. It was the perfect time to admire you. How your eyes rested perfectly closed and how your long eyelashes decorated your upper cheeks so delicately. His next stop, was your lips. He would stare at them for a good amount of time, considering every single detail; from the colour of them to how they would taste on his.

One of his favourite things to observe while you were asleep, was how your chest rose and fell, with every breath you would take. He didn’t understand why he liked it so much to see you breathe while asleep but what he came near as a reason was that it relaxed him. Your steady inhales and exhales and how tranquil you looked, made him the exact same way. Like he had no problems. Like, even if he had some problems, he would be strong enough to solve them or at least learn. In other words, you were his source of strength and he loved you for that as well.

There were a few nights when Harry would fall asleep and you would continue watching the movie. But that hardly ever happened and you were used to your movie nights being like this. As you were reminiscing you felt that this time it would be different. Heck, you didn’t even know if there would be a movie night tonight. All thanks to an argument between you two.

Casually, you were waiting for Harry to arrive to your house for your movie night. It was 11:45 by now, and Harry was never late. Especially when it came to his best friend; you.

You were beyond worried so you rang Niall. You knew that Niall and Harry were the closest out of the other lads so you thought that maybe he knew where Harry was or what had happened in general.

“Ya? Who’s this?”, Niall’s voice spoke through the speaker.

“Hello, Niall. It’s me, Y/N. Sorry if I woke you up but do you have any idea where Harry is? His phone has probably shut down and I can’t reach him. I am so worried here”. Before he had the chance to reply, a really deep voice spoke in the background. You could recognize this voice any time.

“You know what Niall? Screw it. I am sitting here, all worried and he just decides to disappear. Let him be then. Enjoy your night guys and thanks for trying to help”. You were frustrated.

“Y/N, wait, it is not wha-“. Before Niall could explain you had hung up. You felt humiliated. Betrayed either. You thought that Harry would at least call to tell you that your movie night was cancelled or something. You would be pissed because you loved your movie nights, but you would appreciate the fact that he would be straightforward with you. But this? This was ridiculous.

While you were sitting down to relax a bit, frantic knocks were directed to your door.

“Y/N, Y/N open up. Please. I need to explain to yeh”. Yeah now he wanted to explain.

You opened the door, but you didn’t let him come into your apartment. His eyes scanned your face to understand what you were feeling, and the realisation hit him hard. His eyes also fell upon your spots, which were already prepared to welcome two bodies as they were always eager to.

“I don’t want to keep you back from your lads’ night. I have to thank you though! For notifying me and for not having me worried sick! Just the fact that you thought you had your best friend waiting and you decided to let her know you would be absent, is really appreciative!”. Sarcasm was dripping with every single word you spoke. Harry’s eyes soon fell to the ground.

“I know I should’ve called yeh and notify yeh but when I went to Niall’s house, it was still early and I was positive I would make it! But the conversation just kept going and I lost track of time while he helped me solve this problem I have! Yeh have to believe me Y/N!”. He was at the verge of yelling and crying out of desperation all at once.

“And I am sure I have no idea what that problem of yours is as well! Harry I thought we were best friends. I thought I was there for you to rely on and help you through your problems! That’s what we always did remember? What changed?”, you were trying to remain calm but it was very hard.

“Y/N yeh can’t understand! I couldn’t tell yeh wha’ my problem was just yet!”. The fact that he was getting angry, pissed you off even more! You had the right to be angry not him, right?

“And what problem is so important that you can’t share it with me Harry? I don’t understand you anymore!”. That was it. You were officially pissed.

“The fact that I am in love with yeh damn it! I needed a piece of advice on how to let yeh know! There! Now yeh know!”. Whoa. Where did all of this come from? You never imagined that Harry would have such feelings for you.

“Wha- what?”, your brain suddenly forgot how to function.

“Yeh know wha’? I know yeh don’t feel the same way. That’s why I didn’t want yeh to know. Because now things will be complicated and awkward between us!”. He said broken. Before you could protest or even call after him, he was already out of your door.

Now, here you were, waiting for Harry to come to your house for your famous movie night. Since the night he confessed his love to you, you called him but he never picked up. On the third day, he decided to be courageous and talk to you. The only thing you asked him was if he would come today for a movie night. Harry’s response came out bitterly because he lost hope but he said yes nevertheless. He wanted you to be part of his life even as a friend; no matter how much this killed him.

You, though, invited him to a movie night as a camouflage. You wanted to see him. Talk to him. This was the only way.

Just then, you heard his knocks on your door. Now or never.

“Hello Harry. Come inside”, you said casually and he thought for a moment how insensitive you were. But he regretted it as soon as this thought came. What really caught him off guard though was the fact that your spots were not prepared and there were not any snacks on the table.

“Y/N where are all our movie night stuff?”, he asked worried.

“You really thought I am that heartless? You confessed your love to me and I would just invite you for a movie night? I thought you knew me better than that”, you were slightly offended but you remembered why you told him to come to your house in the first place.

“No, yeh are right love. Yeh are not heartless and I am a fool for even considering it.”. Relief washed over you that he didn’t think of you as a heartless being.

“Then why did yeh call me for pet?”. As his nicknames for you made their reappearance, you knew that this was the perfect time.

“For this”. Before he could comprehend what was happening, your lips were on top of his and you felt yourself explode. How could you be so blind to your real feelings for Harry all this time? A kiss was the perfect way to find out obviously.

Harry felt incredible. Not only was he kissing you, the girl he loved for so long, but he knew you loved him too. He could feel it from the way your whole being was responding to him.

“I think now you know the solution to your problem”, you smiled sheepishly and he touched his forehead on yours before the next words left his lips.

“I know that yeh love me. And this is the solution to me every problem baby”, he said and then kissed you again, trying not to waste any more time.

Here it is! The one shot I have been preparing! This is the longest I have ever written and I would love to hear from you guys! I really hope you like it as much as I do! Remember that you can ask me anything you want, or even message me! Happy reading!

what did isak and even do today?❤️

Anonymous said: Hi babe!! Just wondering what tmtts Isak and Even did during the weekend? Love you!

they didn’t see each other at all on sunday — even had an event to photograph and isak didn’t very much feel like going out. he slept most of the day and slumped around in sweatpants. eva had to remind him to eat and considered staying to look after him, but isak insisted she go out with her friends like she’d planned. eva texted even and asked if he could check up on isak, but when even texted isak, isak asked him not to come over. he knew he wouldn’t be very good company, so instead even went home and live texted “crank” to isak, because it’s one of his favorite movies and even finally gave into watching it. he thought it was a pointless action porn, but at least it was entertaining.

today, isak worked a morning shift at the museum after class, and afterwards met jonas and magnus for lunch. they talked about magnus’s new tinder profile and the julian look-a-like. isak only brought even up three times.

after class, even met with mutta and the both of them tried to find something for even to photograph that’ll be able to make him feel something, but apart from a dog at the park, even hated all of his shots. mutta pointed out that maybe the subject matter would come to even instead of the other way around, but even insists he’s running out of time to find the perfect shots and is probably going to fail his class. mutta bought him some ice cream to cheer him up.

coincidentally, mutta and even ended up at the same place as magnus, jonas and isak, and they were invited to join them. even sat across from isak and as they all settled into a comfortable conversation, even started rubbing his foot along the side of isak’s leg. eventually, they both locked their feet together (they’ve started doing that more often) and spent the rest of the time there this way. no one caught them, and what the fuck, honestly, they’re being so obvious i????

when they were done, isak told them he had to go pick up a book at the library and even offered to accompany him. when they all parted ways, isak noticed even looked kind of bummed out, so he asked him if he needed a blowjob. even laughed and told him no, he didn’t need a blowjob, but isak’s company was enough to lighten his mood. isak reminded him he’s here if even needs to talk, and even thanked him profusely.

when they picked up isak’s book at the library, even teased isak about checking out a book about the theory of time travel, and isak defended himself saying jonas had been asking questions about it and he wanted to be able to enlighten his best friend by giving him answers with credible sources. even thought this was the most adorable thing in the universe – but he always thinks that of anything isak does – and kissed him quickly as they reached the bottom of the library steps, taking isak by surprise. he blushed a deep crimson red and muttered “asshole” under his breath. they both finally went their separate ways and to their own places.

isak thought about that kiss for the rest of the day.
