Today in history - The marriage of Mary I of England and Philip II of Spain

On 25 July 1554 Mary Tudor married the prince of Asturias, Philip of Habsburg at Winchster Cathedral. Philip was Mary’s maternal nephew as the son of her maternal cousin Charles V (Holy Roman Emperor). The couple had only met two days before their wedding. Philip did not speak English therefore they communicated  in a mixture of Spanish, French, and Latin.
