Ashley Young Transfer Revisited | June 23, 2015

- June 23, 2011:  On this date in 2011 winger Ashley Young has signed for Manchester United from Premier League rivals Aston Villa on a five-year deal worth  £17 million.

- Young:  “The opportunity to come to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world is one I couldn’t turn down;  It is a chance to hopefully become part of history by helping them to win their 20th title.”
- Young: “ It is a prospect I always looked at from being a child - to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world. I’ve got that opportunity now so I’ve just got to take it with two hands.“

Ashley Young 2014-15 Redemption:

- Spirit of United: In the four years since, the midfielder has displayed the fighting spirit that has underpinned his professional career. “Just last summer, at the end of the 2013/14 season, rumours of a potential exit were rife following the Reds’ seventh-place finish in the Barclays Premier League and a frustrating season for Young, who registered just 17 starts under David Moyes and was not exempt from media criticism.”

- “New manager Louis van Gaal gave every player an opportunity to impress during the club’s pre-season tour of America and the Dutchman was impressed by Young’s willingness to adapt to his philosophy. This led to Ashley becoming a genuinely integral player at Old Trafford in 2014/15 - he made 24 starts, scoring two goals and notching five top-flight assists.”

- Now seen as one of Louis van Gaal’s “ multifunctional players” many believe that Ashley has given himself another opportunity to sign a new contract and stay at the club for years to come. Because of his fight, unwavering spirit, and professionalism he’s always continued to give the club 110% no matter the situation. Ashley embodies the qualities a United player should have.
