Well, it’s over. The fat lady has sung! And I’m wondering if I’m the only one experiencing Olympics withdrawal. For 2+ weeks, I’ve been enjoying the pagentry, athletes, and competition of the XXX Olympiad. Some of the things I will remember:

  • First, big congrats to London/Great Britain for being a fantastic host and putting on a spectacular opening and closing ceremony. Wish I could have been there.
  • Totally loved the Queen jumping out of a plane with James Bond! LOL It was actually pretty believable
  • USA Michael Phelps finishing out his Olympic career winning 6 medals
  • USA women setting new World Record in the 4x100 (Tianna Madison, Allyson Felix, Bianca Knight and Carmelita Jeter). And Jeter symbolically pointing at the clock showing the world record as she crossed finish line
  • GBR Mo Farah triumphant wins in the 5000 and 10000m races before a wildly cheering home crowd
  • Jamaican men dominance in the sprints
  • China’s dominance in diving
  • USA Misty May and Kerri Walsh 3rd Olympic gold in beach volleyball
  • South Africa’s Oscar Pistorius valiant 400m race and acoomplishment as the first amputee to compete in track and field at the Games. Seems like an overall nice guy too
  • Spain really giving the USA men’s basketball team a run for their money in the final match
  • Seeing and admiring the Muslim women finally having chance to compete
  • USA women taking gold in team gymnastics (Gabby Douglas, Aly Raisman, Jordyn Weiber, Kyla Ross and McKayla Maroney)
  • USA finishing gold (Ashton Eaton) and silver (Trey Hardee) in the decathalon
  • Serena Williams’ happy dance after defeating Russia’s Maria Sharapova in womens tennis singles
  • Russia’s womens rhythmic gymnastics gold medal perfomances - very beautiful individual and team
  • And of course, the great performance of the man who has declared himself a legend: Usain Bolt
  • Kudos to all the athletes in sports that don’t get the spotlight like rowing, shooting, water polo, equestrian (fun to watch), ping-pong, judo, field hockey, badminton, archery, and fencing

My best highlight: USA 400m runner Manteo Mitchell completing his run in the 4x400 relay semifinals on a fractured leg.  The lowlight for me was when USA 1500m runner Morgan Uceny, who appeared to have been clipped from behind, fell to the track and was unable to finish. I really felt for her as she sobbed and punched the track in disbelief.

So anyone for Rio 2016?

What was your highlights/lowlights of the Olympics?
