Anders Johnson / ‘The Asparagus Is Kicking In’ [The Almighty Johnsons / Season 3 / Episode 8]
My favorite episode, because we have the opportunity to look behind Anders’ mask which he wears otherwise perfectly. He cares much about the people who are important to him even when his family don’t want to see it. Dean O'Gorman has this great talent that he can say so many things just with his facial expressions. It’s really fascinating. :)
Hello, this is part one of my Secret History MBTI character analysis. I’m starting with the character Francis Abernathy (one of my faves) The other characters will follow in a similar format. (SIDE NOTE: The Bold and formatting of this is super messed up because Tumblr is being difficult. Sorry, it won’t let me fix it.) Here we go…
Quotes: Apart from the infamous asparagus quote, here two other quotes about/by the man, the myth, the legend:
“….Francis, barefoot and still in his bathrobe, stepped precariously over rocks and branches, balancing his glass of ginger ale. once we got to the lake, he waded in, up to his knees, and beckoned dramatically like saint john the baptist”
“Forgive me, for all the things I did but mostly for the ones that I did not.”
So, I typed our boy Francis as an ESTP. I’m going to break down each letter and give a little explanation bit:
E:Was pretty forward with Richard about his sexuality, and seemed more comfortable than some of the others with engaging in society and interacting with those outside of their “cult”. S:Francis relies on observation and immediate surrounding when it comes time to plot and execute (lol) their murder(s). He draws on the environment and relies heavily on others (Henry’s, but later Richard’s) judgements on what actions to take. T:I think (lol, puns) that T works best for Francis because, while he is preoccupied with the fear of getting caught as the gang gets deeper and deeper into they’re predicament, he is more focused on analyzing (maybe over analyzing) the situation at hand for ways it could go wrong. Francis also seems to be focused on getting laid despite the emotional connection it may entail. He even (sort of) tries to coerce Richard into some non-consensual acts. I’m not saying Richard wouldn’t have enjoyed it, but he definitely wasn’t consenting. In that moment Francis seemed to be much more calculating than emotional despite the fact that his actions were driven by physical desire and, during the investigation, survival instinct. P:I feel like Francis is pretty open minded and enjoys exploring different options and pathways before making decisions. He seems a little too accepting and interested in Henry’s plans and even at times Henry himself. Francis doesn’t seem to be the decision maker or really any form of leader for the group, but I still enjoyed reading about his character a lot.
