ASL Tip #6:
When signing ASL you have to remember the most important rule. ASL is NOT English! You don’t just translate an English sentence into sign. You change the order of the words as well. For example when signing the English question “How many hours do you sleep?”, you sign in the order of “Sleep you hours how many?”. The action or main subject of the sentence goes first, then who your talking about, then the unit in question (hours, minutes, inches), then finally the wh-question that would go in the beginning of an English sentence.
