ask laurell

You knew that Laurel was gonna die. And now you’re gonna take me back, and I’m gonna save my sister.

When you’re going through hell keep on moving, face that fire walk right through it.

okay here’s the thing

when tv execs and writers use the word “preference” w/ regards to sexuality, they are NOT using it the way we in the bi/pan communities use it

“preference” has always been a nice sneaky way for them to avoid specifically labeling the sexuality of a character. it’s been used with gay characters to allow the writers to do 180s and make them “straight again”. it’s used to explain why bi characters have 1 slightly substantial relationship with someone of the same gender before its dropped and never mentioned again

before you start accusing people of blowing this thing with sara out of proportion, do even just a tiny bit of digging. that same scene where sara said she had a “preference”, laurel then asks her “are you /sure/ you prefer girls? he [ray] was hot.” sara is bi. why does a preference for one gender affect her ability to find any person of any gender attractive? it doesn’t

or how about when jonah hex made a sexist remark about a man “breaking sara in” or w/e. and mick butts in to tell him that won’t happen. not because sara would hand any man’s ass to him if he tried. but because she’s into girls. implied to be exclusively into girls. and sara isn’t even given a line to correct him.

or how about when one of the lead writers during s2 of arrow said they didn’t want to label sara bisexual because it would be “salacious”? how about that the cw has a shitty track record with wlw characters? how about that it has been reported the cw has been pushing the writers to clamp down on sara’s bisexuality and make her exclusively attracted to women?

don’t act like we’re pulling this out of the god damn air. as a bi woman, with a preference for women, i KNOW that scene in the 100th ep wasn’t for me. and god knows if it had been a scene that led to sara saying “you know i prefer men” people would be sharpening fucking pitchforks

I was glad to see Connor taking a punch to the face. I can only imagine what he must have said about Wes. I really really want Laurel to make them work for her friendship, specially Michaela. The way they treated Wes, shouldn't be taken lightly.

That whole scene had me shook. Laurel’s body being turned away from the rest of them, with Michaela trying to console her. And then when Asher took a swing at Connor’s face… my god. Other than Asher, everyone was so horrible to Wes. So, I totally agree. They all need to work for Laurel’s trust and friendship. Omfg this just made me think about how Laurel basically has no one. No real friend to turn to or anyone to comfort or be there for her… except maybe Meggy. But still. MY HEART IS BREAKING.

  • who’s the one to wake up the kids: Laurel!
  • who makes the breakfast: Laurel does; neither she or Nyssa are big cooks but they are determined to not give their daughter takeout every day so she’ll cook every now and then.
  • who’s the one to cry for everything: Neither of them are big criers but when they have big moments Laurel will shed tears.
  • who’s the more discipline parent and who’s the more lenient one: Hmmm. I feel like Laurel would be a little bit more disciplined but when it comes to training Nyssa would be more so.
  • who helps with the science fair: Laurel, if she asks her to (she doesn’t want to barge in on things they’re doing). Nyssa likes to watch Laurel help and asks a bunch of questions on what her and Tali are doing.
  • who does baby talk: Neither do this?? I honestly can’t see it.
  • who wakes up for midnight feedings: Nyssa will; she’s a light sleeper and will be up before Laurel.
  • who’s the one who always worries: They both do, in their own way, but Nyssa a little bit more so - the only thing is she’s more silent in her worries, so Laurel will see it and rub her back and assure her that Tali is going to be okay.
  • who picks up the kids early from school for some fun: Nyssa!!! She picks them up to go to an ice cream place she just heard about or to train some more because she thinks that’s way more important lol.
  • who’s the competitive parent: Good god Nyssa is SO competitive god bless the parent who pissed her off at a PTA meeting.
  • who kisses the ouches: Laurel <3
  • who’s the sucker for the puppy eyes: Hmm neither of them fall for it.
  • who makes the “dad jokes”: Neither, but Oliver will do it whenever he visits.
  • who embarrassed their kid for fun: Probably Laurel lmfao
  • who’s the over protective one: Both!!!! These badass moms are very protective over their daughter.
  • who’s the “take a sweater!” parent: Nyssa, because after coming from the League of Assassins, Star City is FREEZING to her.

Do you think Wes can be the father after the "no sign of hydrops" line in 3x05? I really want him to be, but you can't see that at 3 weeks :( Maybe Pete will forget about that line the same way he "forgot" about Bruno, Frank's friend form high school and sent him to spend his teenage years in prison.

Ugh. If we’re basing this solely on Pete’s ability to write, then I’m prepared for the worst. You can always count on Pete to throw out pieces of information to fit whatever story he decides to write that day. *eye roll* Lol.

But realistically speaking, I just don’t see who else could be the father. For many reasons but mainly it would just be a huge disservice to Laurel’s character. She’s grown up a lot and has always been somebody who stood up for what was right and carried herself with as much integrity and grace as she could.

So if it’s not Wes, who are the other options? Frank? A random hookup? It just wouldn’t make any sense. Laurel couldn’t even stand hurting or lying to him. So my guess is if she can’t even do that, there’s no way she would ever cheat on him. Like, ever.

The way I see it, Laurel picked Wes. She doesn’t want to be with anyone else. End of story. (Literally).

for the fic trope thing: amnesia, fake dating, coffee shop au

Amnesia Trope

How Likely I Am to Write It: Likely.
For What Characters/Pairing: Lauriver. Since I just remembered I already have a Biospecialist amnesia fic.

“Tell me again.”

“Tell me again,” he says. “Tell me again why we’re not together. Why I left you and– and went on my father’s yacht with– with–”

Laurel clasps her hands together; her knuckles turn white from the pressure. She’s over it, she tells herself. But sometimes, the memories still feel fresh–the news of her boyfriend and her sister not only together but also lost at sea and presumed dead.

For the man in question, though, those events are inconceivable and simply untrue when he can’t remember the past five years of his life.

Fake Dating Trope

How Likely I Am to Write It: Likely.
For What Characters/Pairing: Biospecialist.

Jemma couldn’t stop twirling the ring on her finger.

The rock was pretty, it really was. Rose gold, fourteen karats, what was there not to like? Skye had gone with Grant to pick it out, and the team had made a whole thing of not showing it to her until they had embedded the tracker and resized the band. Jemma would have just taken it afterward and put it on herself, but then their resident specialist had gotten down on one knee and actually proposed.

“You know we’re not–”

“You need practice,” he had said. “You like to prepare, right? I’m helping you prepare.”

Nobody had prepared her for the emotional turmoil and utter anxiety she felt after her fake fiancé had disappeared for the past fifty-two hours.

Jemma hated to think that the piece of jewelry she continued to twist on her hand would be the last thing of Grant’s she would have to remember him by.

Coffee Shop AU Trope

How Likely I Am to Write It: Not as likely… I probably wouldn’t write a coffee shop/barista AU. But two people meeting in a coffee shop? Sure.
For What Characters/Pairings: Biospecialist or Lauriver.

Oliver wouldn’t consider himself a stalker of any sort, but this was the tenth time in two weeks that he had purposely walked past the coffee shop on the edge of campus to see the pretty girl inside drinking her latte or whatever and furiously typing away on her laptop.

“Man, you don’t even know her name, and she’s already got you whipped,” Tommy had commented during his fifth pass-by. Oliver had simply shoved Merlyn into the adjacent antique shop’s window.

His best friend did have a point, though. Oliver never had any trouble getting girls–lots of them–but this one in particular had him hesitating on his old tricks. He didn’t think smolder and charm would work on a girl who surrounded herself with law textbooks.

Finally, after he had grown impatient and tired of looking at the back of her head and shoulders when he dared to sit inside, Oliver walked up to the counter, bought a cup of coffee, scribbled his name and number on the styrofoam cup, and gently set it down on top of Cases and Materials on Torts with a smile before leaving.

  • who’s the one to wake up the kids: Tommy! He’ll try to scare them awake too because he’s a fricken nerd.
  • who makes the breakfast: Tommy again! He’ll wake them up and their boys take FOREVER to get ready so he’ll be making food while they’re brushing their teeth/showering/etc.
  • who’s the one to cry for everything: I’m completely neglecting Laurel in this I’m sorry but like. It’s Tommy.
  • who’s the more discipline parent and who’s the more lenient one: Laurel is the more disciplined one, and Tommy’s the one that goes, “What, it’s fine! He’s 16.”
    • Laurel: “Tommy, think. Really think about what you did at 16.”
    • Tommy: *starts laughing, then stops* “Oh god.”
    • Laurel: “Yeah.”
  • who helps with the science fair: Hmmm neither really do unless their kid specifically asks for help.
  • who does baby talk: Tommy is a sucker for baby talk so it’s definitely him.
  • who wakes up for midnight feedings: Laurelllll. Tommy tries but he is SUCH a heavy sleeper he could probably sleep through an earthquake tbh.
  • who’s the one who always worries: See the “disciplined” answer? Yeah immediately afterwards Tommy is pacing around going “HOW COULD I LET MY BOYS GO OUT” and he is distressed.
  • who picks up the kids early from school for some fun: Tommy!!
  • who’s the competitive parent: Oh god still Tommy. Laurel is above this, thank you.
  • who kisses the ouches: Aww I really see Laurel doing this. Her boys always say they immediately feel better and it makes Laurel smile.
  • who’s the sucker for the puppy eyes:  Tommyyyyyyy he’s a sucker.
  • who makes the “dad jokes”: Tommy probably has a book filled with dad jokes tbh.
  • who embarrassed their kid for fun: TOMMY sorry I really am neglecting Laurel.
  • who’s the over protective one: See my answer for the worries is gonna be the same; Tommy will be super Extra at times but Laurel is also super protective she has definitely had to save her kid while in the Black Canary outfit and her kid is like “…sorry mom.”
  • who’s the “take a sweater!” parent: Laurel!!!

Nyssara AU: Sirens (inspired by @feministcourtneywhitmore)
(They say if a siren kisses you, you will be able to breathe underwater. They don’t explain why, though. And Sara never thought to ask.)

You are wrong, they were in love, don't deny me this #laulicity #morethanfriends

Hahaha.  By all means, headcanon away.  Totally support that.  :)

My main point was that I will not and cannot pit these two against each other.  Either on their own or in their ships.  I personally prefer Olicity over Lauriver in terms of where the show went and the people that all three of them have become.  But the ships were never in conflict or competition, neither were the women.  They both are amazing and wonderful, and most important care deeply for each other and madly respect one another.

Ray/Laurel (still have no idea what they're called lol) - Fog The Mirror

They never imagined themselves here. When they’d first met, the lust and desire hadn’t been apparent at all. Now, with Laurel safely on the Waverider and out of the timeline that wishes to see her dead, their close proximity has them getting to know each other even more. It’s just been too long since they’ve been with someone… It just happens one night. Then the next. And the one after that. Each night is a new and exciting adventure that has them wanting more.
