ask fubar

widow-made-me-do-it  asked:

That 'puppies on their first day of work' thing made me think...what was Fubar's first day of training like?

AWW MAN AWW MAN do you mean his first day EVER of training like early puppy training and being exposed to a bunch of different things/stimuli for the first time??? Or his first day of basic obedience training? Or his first day of like specialized service dog training???

EITHER WAY ALL OF THOSE FIRST DAYS WERE SUPER ADORABLE. Foobs is a really good student!

FYI, my entire structure for FUBAR’s puppyhood and training as a service dog is based like 75% on paws4people’s training process and 25% on the training process in The Story of Edgar Sawtelle. That training process is actually v similar to p4p’s birth–5 months process (same general outline) but the dogs in the book have exaggerated intelligence since it’s a magical realism story, and FUBAR is definitely an exaggerated doggo since he exists in the Marvel universe and is partnered with a 100 year old biologically enhanced superassassin.

ALSO JUST SO Y'ALL KNOW, the $20/month reward on my Patreon is an EXTRA BUCKY AND FUBAR COMIC EACH MONTH about FUBAR’s life as a puppy/SDiT!

That’s a really good value: the cost of one of my B&F pages when translated into my commission rates is about $360. Instead, you’re getting an entire page for $20!! WITH PUPPY!FUBAR!!!

Hello Fai! I'm curious about your opinion on ask blogs-- Do you feel that running ask-fubar has/had helped you improve your art skills?

Definitely yes! I actually started my ask-fubar blog on a whim, and I’m sooo glad I did. I think I improved a lot through that blog, especially in certain areas.

I think the main aspect that I improved upon was speed. Followers don’t want an ask blog that updates once in a blue moon. They want regular updates, which means I had to be able to churn answers out pretty fast at a regular pace. I’m the type to not be very self-motivated - I need some kind of incentive, and the ask blog was perfect for constantly providing some sort of inspiration and requiring me to act upon it! I think speed is actually a very important skill to have, because the more speed you have, the more you can draw, and the more you draw, the more you’ll improve. Aside from just how fast I draw, I figured out how to effectively use shortcuts and techniques to reduce busy work, and learned how to pace myself.

Another aspect of my art that really benefited from the ask blog was the ability to tell a story… basically, I learned how to make more comic-like drawings. There will be many ask blogs for the same character, and many of the same types of questions will come in, so I felt that it was important to make my answers unique. It was a great creative exercise in first brainstorming an idea, planning it out and then realizing it. Comics are hard to do and it’s easy to lose motivation in the middle of doing it, but the ask blog provided enough fun and obligation to keep me going. Also, comics might require you to draw poses/expressions that you might not have considered drawing otherwise, so of course it’s more great practice.

This got pretty long, but the gist is that doing an ask blog will require you to draw more, and it will be worth it because it is also very rewarding - I can only speak from my experience, but my followers were really great and fun to interact with in character. More importantly, the SNK ask blog community was amazingly supportive and interactive. Whenever new ask blogs cropped up, everyone would step up and promote them to give them exposure or drop a few asks in their box just to get them going. It was a great time, and I met a lot of amazing people through it!

A word of caution - the only thing that should hold you back from doing an ask blog is if you’re really busy. It takes commitment! Which is why I haven’t been able to keep up with ask fubar and put it on hiatus. If you love a fandom and are willing to choose a character(s) and pick up a pen to draw some responses, then go for it.

Pokemon Go!SNK headcanons
  • Eren is that Team Valor member. you know the one. He’ll wake up at 4am to check his notifications and notice that there’s a Venonat only 3 paws away. Mikasa yells at him because “Eren it’s only a Venonat, you’ve got like ten of these go the fuck to sleep
  • of course he doesn’t listen. He’s the type to wander through his neighbourhood at 4:30 in the morning, chasing that one specific Pokemon
  • and when he’s finally caught it after encountering 20 Rattatas and a dozen Pidgeys, waking up his neighbours and running straight into a trash can, he notices that he’s got no idea where the fuck he is
  • He calls Mikasa to get him. she’s not pleased
  • Mikasa’s got fifteen 1200+ CP and probably a legendary Pokemon, but her favourite is a 433 CP Squirtle. she caught it very early in the game and became attached to it
  • she always has to look out for Eren when he’s playing Pokemon Go though
“Eren, there’s a lot of traffic here”
“you just ran a red light”
    sTOP THERE’S A CAR COMI-
  • Armin is Eren’s partner in crime. they spend entire afternoons at the park to ‘catch new Pokemon’ (they may or may not be dating)
  • But Armin is also the biggest nerd. Complete Pokemon trash. Dominates every Blue gym within a radius of 5km. try taking down his 2159 CP Dragonite. he’ll kick your ass
  • Both Sasha and Connie are Team Instinct. they always go Pokemon hunting together. They’re the type of players who order a five course meal at a restaurant only to be allowed to stay there longer and exploit other people’s lures
  • Jean constantly tries to take down Armin’s blue and Eren’s red gyms but fails miserably. all. the. time. Blames it on Team Instinct
  • Annie doesn’t seem like much of a Pokemon Go player at all, but you’ll be surprised when you see her collection of rare Pokemon. She likes to keep her obsession secret though
  • She’s a Nerd in Disguise™ and always adds her strongest Pokemon to Armin’s blue Gyms.
  • Reiner was one of the first to download the game but lost interest at like Level 9
  • Bertholdt: Nerd in Disguise™ 2.0
  • Historia loves her 21 CP bulbasaur even though it’s totally useless
  • Ymir thinks she’s cool but isn’t. total loser. joined the yellow team because she thinks they’re the best. embarrasses herself in front of Historia a lot by bumping into lamp posts and people
  • Hanji: very enthusiastic about every Pokemon they find, even if it’s the 500th Weedle. names every single Pokemon and will hiss at you if you even suggest transferring one of their 13948 Zubats to the professor
  • also “who needs sleep. time isn’t real and there’s a Nidorino nearby”
  • Levi doesn’t know what all the hype is about and gets really pissed at all the kids crowding his yard (poor guy’s got a pokestop directly in front of his house)
  • he eventually decides to download Pokemon Go only to become addicted to it very, very quickly. He’ll make excuses like “I’m texting four eyes” or “I’m calling an uber” when he’s really playing Pokemon Go and Eren knows but one glare of Levi was enough to make him keep his mouth shut
  • feel free to add your own headcanons

dear diary

Send me “Dear Diary” and I’ll share a single paragraph out of my muse’s diary for every one I receive.

  Entry Date: an important date

It was Richy’s birthday today! Now, I’m not normally one to get excited to the point of writing exclamation marks, but his expression all day long made that worth it. He was so happy, and I contributed to that! It was a pain in the ass, but I managed to get my hands on a shitton of Star Wars merch for him. Not to mention the fact I unleashed three weeks worth of shitty puns. I only stammered a few times, too. His sister is over right now, which is the reason I’m upstairs now, but other than that? Even I had a good time.

Bucky is not a polite eater. he talks with his mouth open, puts too much in his mouth. seeing him eat spaghetti is horrifying and amazing (amazing that he can somehow get it into his mouth). for his first dates, he tries not to eat food so he doesnt scare them off too fast. FUBAR eats more politely than him. [this is based on how i eat, because i am really bad at eating without looking like a slob lol]

I LOVE THE IDEA OF THE REST OF THE QUARTET JUST SITTING AND STARING IN HORROR AND LOOKING BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN BUCKY AND FUBAR AS THEY BOTH EAT WATERMELLONS AND FOOBS IS ALL DAINTY AND BUCKY IS JUST GOING FOR IT

I have a question about Fubar and Mjolnir. Aren't, like, all dogs worthy? And would Fubar maybe take Mjolnir to the dog park so all the tiny terriers and chihuahuas could feel powerful carrying it around?

TBH I WOULD NOT BE AT ALL SURPRISED IF ALL DOGGOS COULD LIFT MJOLNIR LIKE I SAID FUBAR BEING ABLE TO LIFT IT IS THE LEAST SURPRISING THING I’VE EVER WRITTEN X’D
