When the director of The Ghost in the Shell calls Scarlett Johansson “the best of her generation” what he actually means is she’s the most popular.
Only white actresses were considered for The Ancient One.
A Chinese actor with 15 years of martial arts experience auditioned for Iron First and was told he had to be the villain to a white hero.
An Indigenous actress was told to her face that she couldn’t audition for Tiger Lily because they didn’t want the character to be Native anymore.
So until Hollywood stops discriminating at casting calls and allows people of color their fair shot in this business I don’t want to see anymore white people being held up as the best in the business in defense of whitewashing.

Please don’t forget that Asian American immigration history exists and is being used as precedent for a lot of gross policies, like directly with Japanese Internment making the Trump Admin think Muslim Internment is an option. Don’t forget that even President Obama erased our immigration history in his farewell address when he compared immigrants of today to the Irish and German and Poles and said nothing of the Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Filipino, South East Asian, Vietnamese, “waves” of immigrants literally imported to work the fields bc they would take a lower wage. Don’t forget about the refugees that fled the Vietnam and Korean and other wars and regime changes that came here to start from nothing and are now our nail salon jokes. Our history is full of disgusting immigration acts created by the US govt and they have the gall to pat us on the head and call us a model minority.
Don’t let them get away with it. History is supposed to teach us not to do bad things again.
hey fellow asians, let’s stop using cultural relativism and post colonial theory to justify antiblackness.
what you’re basically doing is using identity politics to weasel your way out of accountability.
our countries participated in the slave trade. that cannot be justified by cultural relativism.
white supremacy/colonialism spread its ideology to asian countries. that cannot be justified by post-colonialism. antiblackness exists in our countries, ourselves, our histories. own up to it.
whether it’s thinking that we can use the n word or other antiblack slurs because some of us have been targeted by misdirected antiblackness, or thinking that we have a claim to black culture because of racialization, or thinking racial relativism theory is an excuse for antiblackness (modern slavery, police brutality, etc)……. we need to stop. lmao. like. we blame black people for their hypervisibility without realizing that it’s white people who made us invisible. we blame affirmative action for the reason we get rejected by employers and universities when in fact we’re rejected because of racism and AA largely benefits white women. we think it’s okay to use the n word or that it’s fine for our people to profit from modern slavery because “uwu slavery is a western phenomenon” or “uwu we don’t have american racial dynamics”. that’s fucking bullshit and you know it’s fucking bullshit. slavery is not exclusive to the west. antiblackness is the foundation of white supremacy; thus it’s no wonder that all asians are antiblack. you can’t fucking simultaneously use post-colonialism/cultural relativism to excuse antiblackness and then at the same time use american racial politics to blame black people for hypervisibility. you’re being a disingenuous asshole when you do that.
we alienate black asians when we do these things too.
excusing police brutality just because the cop is asian is disgusting. justifying slavery just because the slaveowners are asian is disgusting. defending assault just because the assaulter is an asian immigrant is disgusting. ignorning the use of slurs and the theft of black culture just because the thief is asian is disgusting.
don’t ask for support, solidarity, or respect from black people if you don’t want to put in the work or eradicate antiblackness. frankly all of us need to work on this. we are all socialized to be antiblack. you are. i am. our parents are. our friends our. our communities within asia and across the diaspora are. we ALL need to work on it.
(don’t touch this post if you aren’t black and/or asian).
to my fellow south asian bisexual women: i love you all so much. south asian sikh, muslim, hindu, buddhist, christian, jewish, or otherwise bisexual women, mixed/biracial/multiracial south asian bisexual women, trans bisexual south asian women, south asian bisexual women who don’t use she/her pronouns, undocumented south asian bisexual women, dark-skinned south asian bisexual women, black south asian bisexual women, closeted south asian bisexual women, south asian bisexual women who are out and proud, south asian bisexual women dating a girl, south asian bisexual women dating a boy, south asian bisexual women dating a nonbinary person, south asian bisexual women who are single (hit me up LMFAOO), south asian bisexual sex workers.
i love us all. i love the diversity of our experiences and our lives. i love how resilient, creative, strong, beautiful, and clever we are. i love that we continue to resist every person who’d seek to marginalize us. we are far better than misogynistic brown men, homophobic straight brown people, racist/antisemitic/islamophobic/etc white lgbt people, colorists in our community, and every other person we continue to fight so that we can thrive and live. this month, prioritize yourselves, each other, and all your fellow south asian lgbt people (and lgbt people of color).
this goes out to every single south asian bi girl. i hope you have a happy, joyful, and peaceful pride month, and that you get to spend your time with loved ones, with friends, and doing only what you enjoy doing. happy pride!
It’s especially important for teenage Asian wlw to have someone like Hayley Kiyoko influence them because Asian wlw are stigmatized or ignored. Our sexualities, our bodies, and our intimate lives are either desexualized or fetishized, both because of our sexuality and because we are Asian women. We face conservative cultures that force us to remain quiet about ourselves and racist societies that force us to defend our cultures from racism.
Very, very important for young Asian women-loving women to see themselves painted in a beautiful, soft, loving, empowering, and happy light. Our narratives are too often tragic, tainted with bloodshed, or completely silenced.
I thought we all established that Calum was not Asian when this band first began to gain momentum while touring with 1D. The boys have been doing what they do for 5 years now, and it is still sad that people question what Calum is. He’s Polynesian, not Asian. This is the difference.
Polynesian people come from islands in the Pacific Ocean. Islands like Fiji, Samoa, Cook Islands, Tonga, Tahiti, Hawaii, Easter Islands, and even New Zealand. These islands combined form the Polynesian Triangle. Mali-Koa stated in an interview that she was of Niuean and Maori descent from her mother’s side. Niue and New Zealand both fall into the range of the Polynesian Triangle. Calum’s mother is not only Niuean and Maori, she’s Polynesian.
Asian people originate from Asia. The countries in Asia are countries like China, Thailand, Singapore, South and North Korea, and Indonesia. Notice how New Zealand and Niue were not mentioned at all? That’s because Calum is not Asian. He is Polynesian. Know the difference between the two before you begin to assume anything (even though you really shouldn’t be bc I thought this issued was settled).
Also stop whitewashing bc Calum Hood is a person of color.
I’m out. ✌
