And the video is live!

Now that I have caught your attention via a photograph of Anthony Head hugging a cute doggy I would like to tell you about something: This year is the second year of the ASHBD Project and, more importantly, Anthony Heads 60th birthday, and as such, we have to beat last years total amount raised for charity and amount of messages from fans. So far, we aren’t beating it, so please, read this post, consider your options, and take part in any way you can.

For those of you who don’t know what ASHBD is, it’s a project for fans in which we make a video of messages from fans (like a birthday card) and we donate money to a charity Anthony supports (like a birthday present).

Messages: You can send in either a video message or a written messagefor the video to dracofidus@hotmail.co.uk the recorded messages must be under 45 seconds per speaking person (but if you go a little over don’t worry, I’m fine with giving people a few seconds extra so they can say their part) and written messages must be under 50 words (again if you go a little over it’s no problem) and if you are unsure about your English skills, don’t worry, I’ll check spelling and grammar and fix any mistakes in written messages before putting them in the video. If you need any help with your message, either written or recorded just message me, here or at the E-mail above.

Donations: This year we decided to ask Anthony Heads partner which charity to donate to and she suggested the Doris Banham Dog Rescue, a charity they are both a patron of. This charity saves 100s of pound dogs from destruction every month. They take them to rescue places with non-destruction policies.  If a rescue place cannot be found in time to save the dog’s life, they pay for a temporary boarding place until they can move the dog to rescue. Last year we raised £702.26 ($1083.98) for Dogs Trust. We are hoping to beat that total this year as it is Anthonys 60th. You can donate through our Just Giving page and the total will be added to the video which will then be sent to Anthony on his birthday.

If you feel like you can’t do either of the above just spread the word, and remember, anything, anything at all, be it a 10 word message or a £1 donation will be gratefully accepted and Anthony will appreciate it, I assure you. (no, honestly, I met him in Cardiff this year and he kept on thanking me for last year. Video proof here, it’s near the end)

This year is the second year of the ASHBD Project, but, more importantly, it’s Anthony Heads 60th birthday and, as such, we need to make this years project bigger and better than last years.

For those of you who don’t know what ASHBD is, it’s a project for fans in which we make a video of messages from fans (like a birthday card) and we donate money to a charity Anthony supports (like a birthday present).

You can donate through our Just Giving page and the total will be added to the video which will then be sent to Anthony on his birthday.

To get you all excited for tomorrows video here is this years music, all loopable and backgroundy.

*Screeches incoherently* We have another donation… I blinked again, and this time it was literally a blink, one blink, a single blink, how do you put your credit card details in that fast oh my god!

*breathes calming yoga breaths* ok, thank you Casandra for donating £20 ($32.95) and raising our total to an awe inspiring, four figure, £1014.65 ($1671.64)

This years charity is Safe Haven For Donkeys In The Holy Land.

We all know how much Anthony Head loves his donkeys and he is a patron of this great charity which ensures Donkeys in Israel and Palestine get free treatment and are safe from the sadly all too common neglect that occurs in that area of the world.

Check out their site to find out more and then if you want to you can donate to our JustGiving as a present for Anthony Heads birthday next February. If you want to donate but you can’t afford to now, don’t panic, this project runs all year.

Yes, this picture is adorable isn’t it, but why am I posting it here?

Because I have News to share with you all and this glorious picture is relevant.

It is a photo from the Doris Banham Dog Rescue charity website of their new patrons, Tony and Sarah.

And it is this charity that Sarah has asked we support this year.

Doris Banham Dog Rescue help dogs in pounds, as their website says:

"Lost and abandoned dogs picked up by dog wardens and the police and placed in council pounds may only have ONE WEEK TO LIVE!

The pounds are only required to hold lost and abandoned dogs for SEVEN DAYS and on the EIGHTH DAY are entitled to destroy them if they are not reclaimed by owners or taken by rescues.”

This charity takes the dogs in to stop them being destroyed.

So, this is where your money will be going this year.

Oh and, I already set up a Just Giving Page for this year, so, if you feel like donating this early on (not likely but whatever) you can go HERE to do so!

Sometimes I am amazed at this fandom.

Thirty-one weeks ago I was lying in bed, it was four in the morning, and because it was four in the morning I hatched a crazy plan. I asked people if they thought it was a good idea and one person replied.

I went along with it anyway, and against all of the odds, you joined me. This fandom may be relatively small when we square up to the cumberbitches or the hiddlestoners, but that makes us a family. And when families pull together amazing things happen,

Look at what we have achieved: A video containing Nine people, from Six countries, in  Four different continents:

And written messages from another Nine people.

We have raised £659.36 for animals in need, with days of donating to go, that is over $1000!

All because we came together to enact a plan that seemed so far fetched even the creator of it thought it was insane. You believed in this brilliantly mad idea and we have done what some would see as impossible for what is seen as tiny fandom. But we are not small, we are very very big. Because it is not the amount of people who matter, it is the strength of the bonds they share, and our bonds are far stronger than in any other fandom.

We are amazing, we have achieved amazing things and I am so so proud of you guys, and I hope Tony will be proud of you too.

I just got an adorable email from the lady who runs Safe Haven For Donkeys thanking me for choosing them for this years ASHBD project and I am determined to smash last years record total because that is so nice of her and I’m feeling a little touched to be honest. It’s just so nice.

The charity we are supporting this year, Doris Banham Dog rescue has just issued an urgent appeal to help raise funds for Chance, a greyhound who was found as a stray with a broken leg. The charity are hoping to raise £1000.00 they have stepped in and rescued Chance from the pound and have paid for surgery but need to raise money for his on going care.

The money you donate through the ASHBD just giving page goes straight to the charity so if you are planning to donate and haven’t got round to it yet now would be the perfect time. Any amount will help and be gratefully welcomed.

Thanks guys

I am so proud of everyone who is taking part in ASHBD, the money we have raised so far is enough to feed a dog for around 1829 days or just over five years, or enough to feed every single one of the 714 dogs currently waiting for adoption for two and a half days!

We did this. Us. We are proving that fandoms can achieve great things. We  can make a difference if we all band together as one. We should be proud of what we have achieved, because it is amazing.

Just think for a moment, we are a group of people who have never met, from all over the world, with different languages and different cultures, all brought together because of our love of one man. And we have used that love to make a difference.

We are no longer just fans, we are friends and allies and philanthropists. We have proved that fandoms can make the world a better place, not just for those involved in them, but for anyone and anything, as long as we put our minds to it.

So thank you, for everything.

You are amazing, all of you.

This is the style in which all video messages will appear in the video. The background is of a handwritten copy of wolseys speech in Henry VII act III scene II, a speech Anthony Head performed in the show, “In love with Shakespeare” (Sorry about my handwriting)
