AU where Asami’s sleeping and Korra tells her the things she’s scared to say when she’s awake

It’s only been a couple weeks, but we’ve already grown so accustomed to each other.

She’s my first good morning and my last goodnight. On better times, she’s the one I wake up to and it’s her arms I fall asleep in.

I’m sure we’re both fully aware of what we’re getting into. Even though we brush off our friends’ teasing and joking; like when they wonder whose last name we’ll use when we get married and when they point out how obvious it is that we are flirting and not just play-arguing.

I know. Korra knows.

I think it’s because we have that mutual understanding that we don’t choose to recognize our true feelings. It’s because we already know.

But I think I’ve taken it for granted. And I didn’t realize that until I slowly opened my eyes in the dim room in the middle of the night, still half asleep. It was Korra’s voice that woke me.

She wasn’t loud or boisterous, if anything, she was soft and whispering.

What was she saying?

“I don’t know why it’s so hard for me to say,” she said, “I don’t know what’s holding me back.”

Was she speaking to me?

“I think you might be the greatest thing to ever happen to me.”

I was lying down with my back to her. I couldn’t see her face, what if she’s asleep and she’s just sleep talking? Given, her words weren’t mumbled and I could understand her clearly.

To check, I let out a sleepy murmur and shifted in my place, stretching my arm out underneath my pillow. Korra had paused.

“You okay, sleepyhead?” she asked after a while.

I stayed quiet, pretending to be somnolent. It was quiet for a few moments, and Korra spoke again. She was awake.

I listened to her voice out some things, like confessions of her being happy so with me and promising to treat me right. I wasn’t used to hearing her tell me these things, literally whispering sweet nothings to me. But she was being so romantic, I was immediately overwhelmed and it took everything in me not to turn around and kiss her.

I fell asleep.

Prompt 3: Finished.

It was dark and quiet in the Sato mansion. All the servants were gone for the day when Avatar Korra arrived at the estate. It was late. Far past midnight when she flew into the bedroom she shared with her girlfriend, Asami.

She frowned when she didn’t saw her in bed. The sheets were folded to perfection and didn’t show any sign that anyone had laid on them. She decided to check the rest of the house in search for the engineer.

She had passed several doors when she noticed faint light that shone from under one of the doors. Even though it was dark, Korra knew which door it was. It was Asami’s office. She shook her head but smiled. Opening the door ever so carefully, in case that her girlfriend was still busy.

What she found warmed her heart and she smiled. She walked over to the big wooden desk and placed a warm hand on Asami’s back. The pale beauty was hunched over her desk and sleeping on her crossed arms.

What do you think ?

The thing that fascinates me about Asami is that she’s a good person. Her mother was brutally murdered. Her father is a bigot and terrorist. Her boyfriend cheats on her and lies to her. Her best friend/crush/girlfriend almost dies in front of her and then leaves for three years. Her father does die in front of her. She ticks every box on the villain backstory checklist, but she’s not. Even when that required giving up her father and her lifestyle. She’s the real deal. Don’t ever tell me good is boring.
