as the tree

As she stood up, Nate knelt before her. Laelia moved one hands to cover her mouth as she looked down at the man she’d loved so much, before her, staring at her with pure adoration in his eyes.

“Huh?” she sputtered out. She internally smacked herself for her reaction. He was possibly proposing and she still managed to sound like an idiot. Laelia moved one hand to her chest, willing her rapidly beating heart to still. She was surprised that Nate hadn’t heard it, or perhaps he had, and chose to ignore it. Emerald eyes stared at her dark brown ones, with a swirl of emotions which made Laelia weak. He grasped at her hand and sucked in a deep breath. She waited, heart in her chest, breath held, already on the verge of tears.

“Bloom,” Nate began and stroked his thumb across her fingers, “I told you this place was special for me. I want it to become even more special… for us.I remember when you ran away after we met. I thought to myself how cute you were then, even though we didn’t know each other. The fact that you turned out to be my new neighbour… it seemed like fate, Laelia. Fate really was kind because there is no one who can be kind, sweet considerate, beautiful and sexy all at once. You manage to do that and I love you. I love you so much, babe. I don’t deserve you but I promise to work my hold life to try. Will you consider spending the rest of your life with me?”

Laelia’s vision had become blurred by tears. She looked down at the man who had changed everything for her. The man who taught her about love, the world and so much about herself. She was the one who didn’t deserve him. Leaned forward, she pressed her lips to his before speaking the words she’d wanted to say since he got down on his knee, “Yes.”
