artlog talk back

A fellow gallery-goer asked, “Is this THE Jayson Musson?” It’s nice to see the artist getting some recognition separate from his Hennessy Youngman persona. For his new show at Salon 94 Bowery, the artist wove together dozens of Coogi sweaters to create dizzying abstract compositions.

On Friday, August 17 fans gathered on Rockaway beach to cheer on their favorite teams in Creative Time’s first ever Artist Sandcastle Competition! The event, co-sponsored by ARTLOG, featured artists such as Tom Sachs, Shelter Serra, Dustin Yellin, and Ryan McNamera. All the structures were playful and creative but the winning team - couple Paul Outlaw and Jen Catron - outdid the rest with their human/sand fountain (see below).

New York City announced today that New York City’s Meatpacking District is officially the Eurotrash Capital of America.  The city enlisted the spanish artist dEmo who provided his interpretation of Michelangelo’s David. The sculpture is adorned with the recognizable patterns of Italian designer Luca Missoni.  The work makes me wonder how we would have celebrated David if he had battled Goliath today. Perhaps an appearance on Dancing with the Stars, a spinoff MTV reality show with Snooki, followed by the inevitable corporate sponsored public sculpture in New York City.

New York’s Metropolitan Art Museum gets into the Olympic spirt by enlisting the museum curators to select an artwork to pair with each day of the olympics. Get in the spirit with Childe Hassam’s post WWI painting of Fifth Avenue decorated as “the Avenue of the Allies.” Spot the US, Great Britain, Brazil, and Belgium flags.
