So my dad supports my cosplay hobby (he's just a bit concerned about money), but my mom... not so much. She doesn't understand my love for it. She says "it's a waste of money." She asks me, "Why do you want to cosplay?" She tells me, "Wouldn't you want to do something else with your life?" How could I convince her that I love doing this, that I actually enjoy it even though she doesn't understand it?
I’m sorry your mom has some issues with your love of cosplay, but it’s great that your dad supports you! If your mom doesn’t understand why you like it, you could try explaining to her that cosplay, like any art, is about expressing your creativity. It’s a great way to make friends in a supportive and artistic community. People from all backgrounds cosplay, from people who cosplay professionally to doctors and lawyers who do it as a fun and creative outlet. It doesn’t have to be a what you do with your life situation, but it can be a fun creative outlet for self expression. Also, cosplay doesn’t have to be expensive. There are lots of ways to make great costumes on a budget!
I’d also recommend that you maybe invite her to a con with you so that she could see that a lot of other cosplayers are families and young people, and hopefully help her gain a better understanding of the hobby.
After reading all these messages and testimonies posted on this post (link) , I thought words of kindness and love were needed as a feedback. Perhaps it will get to the heart of some people passing by on this tumblr. Take care everyone <3
So this is what I spent my time doing last night. Not very often I make this kind of thing. But the last drawing sort of sparked this idea that wouldn’t leave my head. So I drew it. >>; If it’s not your cup of tea, I understand. But when you gotta draw…ya gotta draw.
At this point I’m really hoping @therealjacksepticeye will see this because I am so proud of it. If anything, I hope the community enjoys it as much as I had fun making it. =)
