A space created by the formation of theatrical flats to create the appearance of walls. Authentic details including doors, dimensional molding and windows are often used to give the effect of an interior space.
The box set was introduced in 1832 in Madame Vestris’ London production of The Conquering Game by William Bayle Bernard and has grown into a classic style frequently seen onstage today.
