Some of my favorite Monkees moments, part two: Art for Monkees' Sake
Ok, this will be a long one…
This episode was the first Monkees episode I had seen in its entirety. I had seen bits of other ones before and had been intrigued by this strange little show. But by the time I had watched all of this one, I was in truly in love. The part of the episode that always stood out for me was the stretch between the Mission Ridiculous scene all the way up to when they are all caught in the steel cage at the end. There is a lot to enjoy in between these moments….
First we get to meet perhaps the most awesome criminal gang in history. We have the Manchester Marauder….
…the Connecticut Counterspy….
….the Towering Texan….
….and the Los Angeles Leopard (AKA the Panther-man).
We also find out more about the various strengths and weaknesses the guys have. For example, apparently high voltages are meaningless to Mike.
Whereas ladders present a significant challenge to all the guys….
However, their plan is sound and they are well prepared to meet the obstacle presented by invisible beams.
And evil security guards.
Nevertheless, it’s not long before things descend into total chaos (or to put it another way, a Typical Monkees Romp).
Which is filled with weirdness like this.
At one point Micky meets up with every creepy hipster artist I’ve met since I started attending university.
All of this leads to a complete breakdown at the end.
This series of scenes certainly left a lasting impression on my mind which helped me along on my journey to becoming a serious fan…and they continue to bring a smile to my face to this day.
