art body

“Fat is beautiful!”, says the Tumblr artist, as they draw:

  • A lady with huge boobs, huge butt, and a 22-inch waist
  • A skinny person’s head on a fat person’s body
  • A person literally bursting out of their clothes, like they somehow started out skinny and suddenly “popped” to their present weight without changing outfits
  • All of the above
Concept: Andrew Minyard and Tattoos.
  • After the events of the books, after the shit that went down has settled and everyone is able to start working on healing and getting on with their lives,
  • Andrew decides to get a tattoo.
  • It starts off with something relatively small, something easily hidden beneath his clothing.
  • He gets a small switchblade in a classic style just below the crook of his elbow, running down the inside of his forearm over the scars. It’s easy to hide beneath his arm bands, but it’s there every time he takes them off.
  • It feels good to do this, to make the choice to have something beautiful permanently marked on his skin because he chose to do it, because there was no need or necessity for it, not in the way the scars were
  • He doesn’t do it to survive, he does it because he can
  • It feels a little like taking something back, like proving a point to himself and to the dead man who almost ruined him
  • It feels like a fuck you, and it feels good
  • Neil goes with him, chatting to the artist so Andrew doesn’t have to
  • The pain is negligible, but Neil holds his hand anyway (Andrew allows it, and is secretly grateful for the comfort. The artist doesn’t comment on the scars, but it still makes his skin crawl to let another see them)
  • The rest of the foxes have never seen him without his armbands so they have no idea about the tattoo
  • In fact, they don’t realize he’s inked himself at all until he gets the next one
  • It’s not as meaningful or symbolic as the switchblade, at least not to him, but Neil helped him to design it (because Neil is actually so good at art, and once Andrew brought it up his imagination ran away from him) and that’s good enough for him to want it on his skin
  • It’s a highly stylized fox, black and white with varying patterns of geometric shapes and designs
  • When Andrew first saw it he called him a fucking junkie, but he made the appointment with the artist anyway
  • Neil came with him again, and this time he and the artist had a conversation about designs and techniques and arty stuff, seeing as it wasn’t everyday that someone came into the shop with a very specific, already designed and original piece of art to work with (not to mention one that was pretty fuckin good)
  • Neil becomes very interested in tattoo culture after this
  • He understands what Andrew’s doing, what it means, why it’s significant, and he respects that, he is, dare I say, proud of him for it
  • But he doesn’t want it for himself. Not yet at least. He’s not ready for that quite yet, to let the blades of the needle near his skin, to paint over the canvas of his past. But one day he thinks he might be. One day he might want to look down at the ruined landscape of his body and want to see something beautiful instead, something he chose to put there.
  • Andrew gets the fox tattoo on his upper arm, running down from the top of his shoulder to just above his elbow
  • The other foxes see it a couple of weeks later when Andrew changes out with them, the tattoo having healed by this point
  • Nicky gasps and squeals, fawning over it and just generally being a dick about it
  • Kevin just kind of stares at it blankly, but Andrew suspects that there’s an understanding between them on this one
  • Kevin knows about the scars back from when they first made their deal, when he saw them after Drake.
  • He also knows about what it means to put things on his skin that he chooses
  • He still strokes the queen piece on his cheekbone every so often, a reminder to himself of what he has become, of what he will continue to be, of what he faced and withstood.
  • Matt thinks it’s cool as hell, and compliments him for it (though Andrew ignores him)
  • Dan’s secretly impressed, and feels inspired to get some kind of fox related tattoo of her own
  • Renee, my sweet child, is proud of him. She smiles sweetly and tells him it looks amazing, and even compliments Neil on the design
  • Allison is grudgingly impressed
  • Aaron couldn’t give less of a fuck
  • Andrew continues to add to his growing collection of tattoo’s every so often over the years, usually whenever Neil comes up with a good design, an artist whose work Andrew likes comes through town, or he just feels like it
  • By the time he graduates, he had a mostly completed sleeve on his right arm; the stylized fox tattoo and the switchblade, some flower designs on the inside of his upper arm integrating with the fox piece nicely, more of Neil’s stylized designs running around the switchblade
  • He goes all out and gets a hand tattoo, some really nice looking design that starts at his wrist and ends at his knuckles, and fuck it looks badass (he’s proud of it), altho people are kinda surprised cos it’s more artsy and flowery than they would naturally expect from Andrew ‘I care about nothing and have no emotional expression’ Minyard
  • He doesn’t give a fuck tho, he likes it, Neil likes it, that’s all that matters
  • Speaking of hand tattoos, he probably gets something like ‘чёрт’ tattooed across his fingers after he and Neil learn Russian for each other (it means like fuck or devil, actually this is a really flexible word apparently and it means a lot of things, none of them polite)
  • (because Andrew has no chill)
  • he has a thing for animals designs, like birds and shit, because animals have always been safe for him and because not everything has to be drenched in meaning and animal pieces just generally look good
  • he probably gets sparrows flying across his collar bone (Neil loves kissing them when they have sex, or even just as a casual intimacy when they peek out from his shirt and Andrew allows him)
  • and this super cool stylized wing thing across his shoulder blade that runs along the back of his upper arm next to the flowers
  • and on the side of his ribs he get’s these pine like trees whose trunks run down like claw marks to to his hips, on his left side to kind of balance it out
  • he doesn’t really get anything on his legs or back, no matter how many years pass he just isn’t comfortable with anyone touching that part of him (only Neil can do that, and only then sometimes)
  • One day, years into their professional careers, Neil comes home with a tattoo
  • A key, on the inside of his wrist, small and classy, an exact replica of the key to the house in Columbia
  • He didn’t tell Andrew he was getting it, it just appeared one day, so it takes him by surprise
  • He doesn’t say anything about it, the only acknowledgement he gives at all is pressing a brief, barely there kiss to it a week after it’s healed, after they’ve had sex, in a quiet moment when they just lie in bed facing each other
  • Neil doesn’t say anything, but it makes his heart feel impossibly full
  • In the end Andrew relearns himself, his body, through this art that he wears on it
  • he learns how good it feels to look at his skin and see more than the scars there
  • he learns how good it feels to share this with Neil, to work on these pieces together, and for Neil to trace the patterns with his tongue and lips and fingers after they’ve healed, worshipping them as much as Andrew will allow him
  • he feels, for the first time in so many, many years, as though his body is his own, that his skin is his own
  • and fuck he looks hot too

It’s okay to not be good at drawing chubby people. But it’s a really good idea to learn how to draw them.
Not only are you expanding your creativity but youll make several cubby people happy that more people are drawing chubs, normalizing them.
