Surely this will be known as the age of the screen. Television screens, cinema screens, computer and phone screens. And what do they have in common? The visual straightjacket of the frame. The rectangle in which all content must reside. But perhaps that is a good thing? Restrictions and limits are of great value to the artist. Can art be created if there is no limit, no clear space to place it in? The rectangle of the frame certainly feels very manmade, you’d be hard pressed to find one in nature. But perhaps that is an essential part as art is made by us and not nature.
