Remember these are only herbal suggestions, NOT prescribed medicine, if you are already on medication, ask your doctor if it’s ok to use some of these herbs internally as some come can react with medication. Do not take too many sedative supplements at once & consult your doctor before internal use of any herbal supplements if you are pregnant. .

Despite being commonly known, Chamomile is not just a benign little flower that tastes sweet in your cup, it packs a powerful medicinal punch. Chamomile should not be thought of in terms of what specific diseases it can be used for, because there are too many uses to list, nor is is helpful to only think of what herbs can ‘do’. After reading though my favorite herb books, I summarize the actions of chamomile as being:

  • Relaxing nervine for states of tension
  • Aromatic and bitter for regulating digestion
  • Anti-inflammatory and anti-allergy
  • Anti-microbial
  • Safe, tasty and suitable for everyone, including babies, children, pregnant women and the elderly
  • Matthew Wood says that “The fresh preparations preserve the oils, so they are more relaxing, the dried preparations are bitter and promote secretions to the stomach, G.I. and liver.”

Here are some of the chemical constituents present in chamomile and their generalized actions (mostly from Wood, but also from Simon Mills, David Hoffmann and Chanchal Cabrerra)

  • Flavanoids –  cooling and relaxing
  • Bitter sesquiterpene lactones – stimulate digestive juices
  • Volatile oils –  antipyretic, anti-spasmodic, can reduce histamine-induced inflammation
  • Mucilage – soothing, nutritious and immuno-stimulating
  • Amino acids, fatty acids and many more
Juniper

Gender: Masculine

Planet: Sun

Element: Fire

Spiritual Attributes: Protection, love, exorcism, health. Worn to attract wishes, honours & glory. The berries are used to attract lovers once dried and worn as a charm. Banishes all things injurious to good health; attracts good, healthy energies and love. Juniper berries can be carried by males to increase potency.

Medical Uses: It’s a bitter, aromatic herb that has antiseptic and diuretic properties, improving digestion, stimulating the uterus and reducing inflammation. The berries can be used externally for rheumatic pain and neuralgia. Great for toning congested skin with blocked pores and fighting acne, eczema, and psoriasis, as well as skin inflammations. Great aromatherapy oil.

Who doesn’t want to stab things and make what’s essentially a jar spell for joyous energy that you can drink later?

The resulting potion is VERY sweet, aromatic, and somewhat bitter. You could lower the sugar, but I think it’s worth it to keep the 44 theme and just dilute it with something when you drink it down the line.

There’s a lot of variations on this recipe out there, including some very interesting ones in Normandy. I’d love to hear about any you know!

For additional magic, you can wright sigils on the inside of the rolling papers to activate them. You can make a protection mix, a divination mix, and many more.

These are a few ways you can use herbal cigarettes in witchcraft. :)🔮

- you can draw sigils onto the paper to release your intent/ activate the sigil.
- you can combine the magical properties of the safe to smoke herbs together and make the cigarette an instant spell, that will activate when you smoke it.
- you can use color magic by choosing a certain colored paper when rolling your cigarettes
- you can use them as smoke offerings to the gods
- you can make mixes for warding away spirits

Jay Z and Beyoncé, photographed drinking D’USSÉ “The Code” cocktails on a beach in Hawaii on June 18, 2016. The cocktail consists of D’USSÉ, pineapple juice, Disaronno amaretto liqueur, Angostura aromatic bitters, and wedges of lemon to serve.

Commuovere

Commuovere (v.) - To stir, to touch, to move to tears.

It was just a cup of coffee. He’s had so many cups in the past few years, but none of them have stood out as much as that one. None have ever tasted so…familiar, like home. Maybe that’s why he’s spent years tasting different coffee shops, maybe it’s to find a home for the only true piece of humanity left in him.

The next time he went to the shop, he went alone, wanting to take a moment have a moment to himself in case he cried again.

“Welcome- Oh.”

Haise instantly recognized the waitress from last time. “Ah.” Now thinking back on it…He must have been so embarrassing! A grown man crying in public! He wouldn’t be shocked if the waitress actually dreaded the fact that he had returned, but he at least wanted to try the coffee one more time (and maybe get an opportunity to talk to her). “I’m so sorry about last time. I don’t normally cry like that.”

“It’s quite alright,” she insisted as she lead him to a table. Internally, he let out of the biggest sigh of relief. Hopefully she didn’t think that he was crazy. “Would you like the same thing as last time?”

“Yes, please. Oh! Thank you again for lending me your handkerchief,” Haise said as he pulled it  out of his pocket, now neatly pressed and cleaned. “I’m sorry that I couldn’t give it back to you any sooner,” he apologized as he offered it up to her.

“Oh.” She slowly reached for it. “Thank you. You didn’t have to. I’ll just get your order now.” She quickly prepared his cup and set it down gently in front of him. “Please take your time.”

“Thank you.”

Haise took a deep breath before sipping it. It tasted amazing, to say the least. It’s aromatic yet a little bitter but there was no need for any sugar (not like he could even stomach it). Deep and somehow comforting as though it’s something that he used to know. Almost like a lullaby that a mother would sing to soothe her crying child.

Even his past self, who was clawing at his consciousness in the wee hours of the morning, was silent. Maybe the coffee was just that good. Maybe it was similar to something that Kaneki Ken used to drink?

Regardless, he just felt more… at peace.

“How is it?”

“It’s probably some of the best coffee that I’ve ever had.”

As Haise at least.

Following the poison path is not for a beginner, it is highly volatile, and dangerous if not don’t safely. I expect anyone willing to learn about this path to do lots of research and use safety measures.

The "Quiet Please"

As you all know, I post Big Time Rush themed drinks. From the show to the music, there’s a drink for it all. But this week I decided to take a little break and focus on a lesser-known sector of BTR - Heffron Drive. I asked all of you to vote for your favorite song, and the song you guys picked was…

“Quiet Please”

While I don’t exactly agree, I still really love this song. (“Stand Forever” had my vote.) “Quiet Please” is relatable…but it’s also kind of confusing. They like each other. She seems to like him more. But they fight. And he wants to date other people. So he’s telling her they’ll be together eventually…but really he’s lying so he doesn’t hurt her.  And from the sound of it, he’s lying because he kind of wants to keep on her the backburner as a “just in case” as well, which is, you know, always mature.

So for the drink. I added a dash of aromatic bitters and orange blossom water to reflect the bitterness and complexity. Hypnotiq for the confusion. Then I added rum and ginger ale for the fun they do have together. And then shaken, because you know the end result of whatever this song is about is going to leave them both shaken up and wishing it never happened. This drink is cute, semi-sweet, a little immature, and a little bit of “I hope this doesn’t ruin our friendship."

4 Parts Ginger Ale
1 Part Rum
1 Part Hypnotiq
1 TSP + ¼ TSP Orange Blossom Water
Dash of Aromatic Bitters

Add ingredients into a mixer. Add ice. Shake. (Hold it tight!) Then pour into a martini glass and garnish with a newly budding rose.

Check back tomorrow for the Big Time Rush Christmas Special drink :)

We’ll make it till tomorrow and past the sorrow…with the help of the "Quiet Please” drink that is.

Pisco Sour

There are two schools of thought on both Pisco and the Pisco Sour: Peruvian and Chilean.  The key difference in Pisco is the distilation process.  Peruvian pisco is distilled in batches in copper pot stills while Chilean Pisco is distilled in continuous stills.  Pot stills are generally considered superior to continuous stills; For example cognac cannot be distilled in continuous stills.

As for the sour itself, the peruvian pisco sour is made of lime juice and simple syrup, whereas the chilean pisco sour is made up of lemon juice and fine grained sugar (either super fine or powdered).  I don’t have a dog in this fight so I tried to split the difference.

  • 2 oz pisco
  • ½ oz lime juice
  • ½ oz meyer’s lemon juice
  • 2/3 oz simple syrup
  • 1 egg white
  • angostura bitters to taste

shake all ingredients except bitters with ice until frothy.  Strain into an old fashioned glass and top with a few drops of angostura bitters.

My first espresso was upon meeting Prance’s Ambassador, Madame I'Ambassadeur Joanne. Customarily in Saddle Arabia, Al-Qahwa (what we name our coffee) is pure coffee grounds mixed with Cardamom and then boiled for which after, is served a few centilitres at a time. Patrons at the Coffee House that Joanne and I visited encouraged me to take an espresso “shot” (what a peculiar name for a drink), and in one go!

And that was that. Hot, aromatic, pleasantly bitter. I miss my espresso machine at home.
