armor for females

Aggra the Frost Giant and Avvar, the-previously-a-Frost-Giant-but-now-a-cursed-Sabretooth-Lion. Two darling characters I have developed who have a little story brewing about them.

Aggra and Avvar were championed trophy hunters in their Northern Coast Frost Giant tribe; a never-before-seen wife and husband duo. They were heroes of their tribe, and tales spoken of their great hunts spread far and wide. With Aggra’s spear and Avvar’s bow, the two could take down any creature they set their minds on. They were icons of both great pride and true, unyielding love.
After one particular hunt of The Golden Aurochs, Aggra and Avvar angered a forgotten god, and Avvar was cursed. Turned into a common sabertooth. Aggra and Avvar now travel the continent, restoring the temples of the Old Gods and hunting the creatures who lurk there in attempt to restore Avvar’s true form.
Aggra is 7′2″, and Avvar once stood at 8′ tall. A little info about the Frost Giants: They are a proud race, living in tribes but far from barbaric. Aggra and Avvar’s tribe in particular consumes whales primarily, and trades the difficult to procure meat to other nearby settlements. Their sister tribe is best known for their high quality armor forging techniques, and their prized “frost rock” mines. “Frost rock,” is a type of extremely hard crystal that is black and freezing cold to the touch. It is used for armor adornments, blades, jewelry, and carvings.

So sometimes I see bros on the internet talk about how women couldn’t have worn armor historically, because it was too heavy for them.

Here is a picture of me wearing armor when I was a nerdy 14-year-old girl who was about 5 feet tall and weighed less than 95 pounds. I sometimes wore it for 6 hours straight in summer heat, and I would run and turn summersaults in it for fun.

And before you start asking: this was authentic full steel plate with a padded arming doublet underneath. It weighed so much that I couldn’t carry the plastic tub it was stored in on my own. It was heavy. But once I was wearing it I just felt like I was being hugged or wrapped up in a really heavy blanket. That’s how armor works. The whole point is that the weight is distributed across your whole body, and your whole body can lift a huge amount. It has nothing to do with how strong you are or how much you can bench.

So if you think women are too weak to wear armor, you are wrong on so many levels. It does not even matter if you believe in your little misogynistic heart that all women are defined by their physical inferiority when compared to men, because you are also just wrong about how armor works. Even skinny teen girls can wear armor just fine. Everyone can wear armor.

Against all odds - I’m still alive! The development of Dry Drowning is proceeding smoothly but since I’ll be having a bit more spare time in the following days I decided to knock at tumblr’s doors to reopen commissions. Please refer to this post if you wanna commission me something! I’ve got a couple of spots open for now
