are you just going to walk through them

It’s early in the morning and nobody will probably read this but I just had the greatest ‘humans are space orcs’ idea

Imagine if humans are the only species that experiences impatience.

Think about it. Most prey animals are extremely patient. Ever meet a deer or a rabbit in the woods and hold still to try and out-wait the thing? I can guarantee your brain starts sending bored bored bored messages very quickly, and your instincts start telling you to give up and find something else to do. Humans can do the patience thing- as evidenced by our endurance hunting methods- but our instincts tell us not to. Correct me if I’m wrong, but this feels like a predator development. I have the idea that if aliens are mostly prey-based, and we’re predator-based, then the aliens will be very patient and we just aren’t.

As an evolutionary development, being impatient can be brilliant. It means that we didn’t sit around and wait for the ice caps to warm up, we knew we didn’t have the technology to survive that level of cold, but we did it anyways. We were trying to send people into the sky and then into space before we had fully figured it all out, simply because we didn’t want to wait and think it out, we wanted SPACE and we wanted it NOW. And personally, I tend to be extremely productive and inventive when I’m feeling impatient. Mechanic is booked for a few days? I’ll figure out how to change my oil and tires and tint my car’s windows myself. Strawberry season is still 4 months away? I’ll get a heat lamp setup and grow them myself. Friends can’t visit and help move furniture for a week? I’ll build a trolley out of some toy cars, tape, a chessboard, and do all the lifting myself.

This impatience is what made us design faster cars, faster computers, faster internet, faster communication, methods of growing food faster, of processing food faster, we’re always looking for the quickest and most efficient thing simply because we are not patient.

Impatience leads to a type of creativity and persistence that patience just doesn’t have.

Imagine aliens starting to realize this.

“You got to your moon before you had developed LED screens??? You didn’t even have computers that could do basic math?!”
“Well, what else were we gonna do, sit around and wait?”

“Your planes don’t have gravitational control? Don’t you experience discomfort from the acceleration and directional changes?”
“Sure. But we needed to get on the other side of the planet in a decent amount of time.”
“So… what you’re articulating is that you’d rather have physical distress than have to have a long journey?”
“Yeah, pretty much.”

“Human____, our mechanical teams will be on site in several of your earth hours, so we won’t be going anywhere until then.”
“Screw that. Where’s the manual for this thing? I bet I can fix it.”
“But you don’t have any mechanical training.”
“I also don’t feel like sitting around on this rock for ages.”

“You’re back already? I thought your medical representative told you to not be walking on that limb for another of your weeks.”
“Ugh. I just can’t anymore. I’ve got to get up and move and do something, anything.”
“But doesn’t that hurt to walk on?”
“Absolutely.”
“…You would choose pain over waiting?”
“What can I say, I’m not a patient person.”

Like aliens just being baffled that humans would rather work hard or struggle with a problem or even experience pain and discomfort. They, as prey species, are used to just waiting it out. They don’t have the same impatience driving them to get up and go and to fight through things just because they can’t wait any longer.

Bonus:
Human: Ain’t nobody got time for that!
Alien: Why don’t you have time? Is something scheduled soon?
Human: No, I just don’t feel like wasting time.
Alien: But… it’s not wasted. It’s time well spent. And you do technically have the time to spare for that. If there’s nothing scheduled, then you do ‘got time for that’.
Human: No. No, I don’t. It’s just… no.

How do you fall back in love with life?

  1. clean your room.  clean space, uncluttered space, space that doesn’t have miasma clinging to it can work wonders.  clean the dishes.  sweep.  take out the trash.  peel the clothes off the floor and wash them, and then actually fold/hang them.  take a long shower.  scrub behind your knees.  brush your teeth.  (this can be utterly exhausting, but try to get it done in a day, if you can.  the end result is worth it.)
  2. pull out your notebook.  it doesn’t need to be a new notebook, but preferably one that you don’t usually write in, or that you haven’t touched in a while.  fuck moleskins.  the yellow legal pad will work fine.  sit in your room, or in the park, or in the library, and write a list.  count clouds.  describe all the colors that you see, and note patterns that arise.  sketch the cracks in the walls.  note the shape light makes when it enters a space.  talk about what the air tastes like, smells like.  what sounds are there?  even the white nose, break that down: air planes, fans, cicadas, anything.  remind yourself that you are sitting in the middle of a space brimming with detail.  remind yourself that you are not in nothingness and emptiness.  your world is fathomless.  it has potential.
  3. drink cold water and try to eat something that isn’t processed.  it does not need to be fancy.  buy yourself an apple with the change between your couch cushions.  eat it outside.  if you’re someone who walks, walk somewhere afterwards, just to stretch your legs.  take your fucking meds.  remember that its a good thing that you are inside your body.  your body is a fantastic and endlessly intricate machine, and even though society has smacked a bunch of poisonous ideas on it, that doesn’t change its inherent worth and splendor.  take care of it.
  4. read a novel.  underline your favorite lines, and write phrases that twist your heart inside your chest on the back of your hand with an ink pen.  read a novel like it’s poetry.  read poetry, something decadent but unpretentious.  watch a movie you haven’t seen before.  if there are free art galleries near you, walk through one.  take your time.  let yourself bask.  if there are patterns in what makes your soul ache, write those patterns down – marbles arches or soot crumbling bricks or dandelions or descriptions of dresses or whatever it is, write them down.
  5. your chosen family is important.  remember, they picked you as much as you picked them.  the love has no obligation.  it is given freely and it is given from a place of compassion.  you are not a burden.  if you need to breathe, take a minute by yourself and just exist, but remember to go back to your people.  when they need you, listen and be gracious.  always be gracious.  the universe sometimes remembers things like that.
  6. listen to new music.  link jump on youtube or related artist jump on spotify or ask the chap beside you in the cafe what their favorite band is, and listen to that.  listen to something that you don’t usually listen to.  we tend to tie up a lot of memory with music.  we are falling in love again.  the soundtrack needs to be specific to that.
  7. allow yourself to indulge in romantics.  press flowers in old books.  play movies with subtitles and mouth the words.  dance in your room.  wear something that makes you feel good, even if you wouldn’t wear it in public.  write your chosen family letters, even if you hand deliver them.  write poetry, even awful poetry.  revel in its awfulness.  eat dark chocolate and when your chosen family want to go out, try to go out with them sometimes, even if its just to the market.

Dear Signs, It’s Okay

Dear Aries,

You are a fireball of energy, blazing through life. You want to savor it’s rawness and be strong in all your might, and you are strong. But it’s okay to cry, and let the softer parts of yourself show- even for a moment- even if it’s just to yourself. Because deep down, through all that strength and valor, you still have the innocence of a child. Not everyone will understand what it’s like to be so authentic in the core, and that’s okay. You are you, in all of your wholeness and that should be shameless. Your childlike innocence doesn’t take away your strength, it gives you an impenetrable shield.

Dear Taurus,

When you look in the mirror, what do you see? Do you love the person staring back at you, Do they fit the definition of what you find as beautiful? Look deeper, past the skin, past the tangible, and feel- do they feel Beautiful- If not, why not? If the answer has anything to do with other people, listen close. Beauty is subjective but you embody it, you are Earth in her purity, natural and cunning. It’s okay if you don’t always see, but always try to feel it. People don’t always understand the beautiful things in life and that’s okay, as long as you are aware of it yourself- you are akin to a flower blooming. No matter the petals, you are aromatic, intoxicating. Not everyone stops to smell the flowers, but take this as a reminder you always should.

Dear Gemini,

You are a whirlwind of everything around you, and it’s quite remarkable. No one can pin you down, as you can hardly grasp yourself. You are a curiosity, as no one understands you, some days you don’t understand yourself. That’s okay, life is about perpetual learning, and not just about knowing. Knowledge may bring comfort, but it doesn’t secure it. You are a tornado, and it’s natural not everyone can keep up, and that’s okay. You are light-hearted being, with light that needs to dance and smile. Don’t let anyone take your smile away, and or erase the many facets of who you are. With so many faces, you aren’t fake, you’re just multi-dimensional.

Dear Cancer,

You are sensitive and passionate, with a hard shell protecting everything you love. Life comes to you in phases, and you follow your passions wherever they may lead you. You shine brightly in the dark, when all is still. You are a contradiction, like most wonderful things- hard on the outside with a softness inside, both nurturing but harsh. It’s okay to be all of these things, and it’s okay to trade them out through time. You are the moon, and the moon is constantly reinventing herself.

Dear Leo,

You love fearlessly and boldly, and not everyone can handle that. Some are blinded, some are envious, but that’s okay, as long as it doesn’t dull who you are. You shine for those around you, because you love them and you need to know they love you too. It’s okay to love like you do, it’s okay to shine as bright as you do. You have a childlike adoration, and attention serves as validation. Praise strokes the fire in your heart, just remember not everyone has learned about love in it’s pure form. Love them as you would any other stranger, because they need it just as much, but don’t let it drain you. It’s okay to love the world, just know when to it’s time to move on, and be someone else’s sunshine.

Dear Virgo,

You are the oil in the gears that make the world run smoothly. You are anxious, making double sure you’re perfecting your part in the world. It’s natural to want to feel appreciated, as you do so much for others. You might not always do the glamorous things, or be in the center, but you always are doing something. It’s okay to want to be thanked, it’s okay to want to be adored- because you deserve it. Just know, you have to appreciate yourself before anyone else does. Some people don’t see all of what you do, and you can’t change that. You can change who you service, and you can change how you percieve yourself. Always remember to adore yourself, and give yourself credit for everything you do. Without you, this world would be chaos, so remember you are important.

Dear Libra,

Who are you ? I’m sure you ask yourself this quite a lot, and it’s okay if the answer changes daily. It’s okay if the answer changes, because whether you believe it of not, there is no definite answer. People around you may seem solid in who they are, but their not, and that’s okay too. You are not less than them, and you a more than just a reflection, even if that’s others see you. Your identity is fluid, and it changes based upon the people- and that’s why being alone sometimes can be so scary. You are left unarmed as to who you are, with only the scraps of thoughts to keep you together. And sometimes those thoughts aren’t so pretty, and that’s okay, because you’re also more than what ugly thoughts have to offer. You are beautiful, in and of yourself, you are an egnima.

Dear Scorpio,

You are a curious being plopped in a curious world. There is so much mystery, so much hidden depth. Of course you want to explore it all, to you, there is no such thing as an unanswerable question, and every wonder has a right to be answered. This frightens the world at large, because the world isn’t always ready for the truth you bring. It’s okay that you wonder those questions, no matter how dark or taboo. This isn’t a fault with you, because the world is heavy in denial. This is your virtue, because you walk the path so many are hesitate to glance down. Always ask, always discover, always seek, just remember security isn’t always found in the answers. Sometimes the answers break the security you thought you had, and this begs more questions. It’s okay to vulnarable, it’s okay to be exposed sometimes, especially to those who mutually love you, as you love them. Perhaps it’s this way, you’ll find the answer you’re looking for through yourself? But that’s just another question you’re going to have to answer- and it’s okay if there’s more after that.

Dear Sagittarius,

The world is an adventure, and an experience to indulge in. You are a wildfire, untamed and wild, It’s okay to wander. Beings like you aren’t meant to be caged, you are meant to drift and discover, to teach all those who listen. It’s okay to want to befriend the world, just remember not everything is friendly. You know this, but you’re brave and luck always seems to be on your side. It’s okay to believe in luck, always count your stars while you can. If by some stroke of chance you loose them, know that you can always find them again, or better, create your own lucky stars.

Dear Capricorn,

The world is dark, it is hollow, but you fill a much needed crack within it. You are the cement that holds the foundation for many different people, and that’s why the world feels so heavy. It’s okay to feel brittle after holding so much weight for so long. It’s okay to feel exhausted, because this world is mericiless and you brave it well. Your ambitions is what carries you and the ones you love. Just remember, you are also human, and not a machine, even if others don’t see it that way. Remember that, it’s okay to rest, and that you can always carry on in the morning.

Dear Aquarius,

When people imagine colors that don’t exist, they think of you. You function on a plane that many people never ventured on, because so many people are afraid of what they don’t know. You embody what people are afraid of, not because you’re scary, but because you’re different. Different- that’s an adjective that’s used so much in reference to you, it’s practically a synonym to your name. You are just you though, and that’s the magic of it. It’s okay if people don’t understand you’re unique sense of self, it’s okay if they don’t understand your compassion for the world. Its okay if some nights are lonely because you feel misunderstood, some things aren’t meant to be understood by everyone. You aren’t alone for this, you are united because of it. It’s through your eccentricity that will bond you with the few people that truly understand.

Dear Pisces,

The world consumes you, as you unknowingly consume it. You a radar of sensitivity, picking on the undercurrents that most people don’t notice. Some days it feels like your drowning in those waves, and no one understands. They don’t, and that’s okay. They don’t understand you, because often times, they are half blind to the world around them. You hold unimaginable depth, and some people don’t know how to handle that. You are a sponge, soaking up the world’s vibrations and empathy. This may seem like a curse, but it’s a blessing to see the world so vibrantly. This world consumes you, but that’s okay, because you also have the power to capture it.

*check sun & moon*

So this year the Conservative party of Canada decided to book a convention at the same time as Anime North, in the same building. Meaning it’s basically been a bunch of us gays/nerds walking around in costume, confusing the fuck out of groups of politicians and businessmen.

(A couple of them actually called the cops on us because there were people walking around with giant cardboard weapons. And the police were like “what do you expect us to do? It’s a comic con, we can’t tell them to stop… they literally go through a weapons check at the event”).

(My friends and I also had some of them come up to us at a restaurant to ask us “what the fuck an anime was” and if it was just “one big party”).

This is one of the funniest things that has ever happened to me….

Aries: your tears are so hot and your cheeks are flushed, you hide your face in your hands and you cry to all ends. I know you miss them, they made you feel like your heart was beating in your chest. But you were alive long before you knew you were, just as you were loved long before you believe you are.

Taurus: You made a rose garden with them. You each had your own, but yours were real and theirs was plastic. They kept tending them but it missed your loving touch, how could they screw you over? Love I don’t know. The universe isn’t fair; how can it be so cruel to something so precious?

Gemini: You used to talk to me, about politics and poetry. You used to tell me stories, about magic and all things pretty. You always told the story of you and them, you said it was the most beautiful one. The pen could never describe your pain, we’re in vain. Their lack of empathy to blame, you’re killing your brain. Your thoughts are violent and I know you can’t hide it.

Cancer: They said they were scared of you leaving, little did they know about how you wrote poems about their touch. How you stayed up just to talk to them, and complimented them everyday to make them feel like the world. Now you’re just another stripe on their wall, a number. It’s ironic, really. They take all your pieces one by one and then ask you why you’re empty.

Leo: They took your hand and walked with you through nights of blanched white stars and dark blue skies, you never liked boating until they took you on a cruise but they drowned you with the anchor of the ship. Now you’re a castaway on an island, you’re so isolated. What happened to your people spirit, did it go down with the anchor?

Virgo: You trusted them, you never believed in fairytales but goddamnit they were your Prince Charming. I’m so sorry they lied to you, happy endings were a religion to you but they didn’t believe in your God. I’m sorry that tears are your only remedy and everything hurts. I’m sorry that the midnight air burns on the places they’ve touched and that you don’t want to wake up in the morning anymore.

Libra: They were your favorite song, the one you kept on repeat when you were a teen. They were your high school sweetheart, they made you feel alive. They kissed your eyelids and looked at you with adoration, their back pocket held knifes you’d never seen. The silhouette you see in the dark frightens you. And you said “I don’t think people understand brokenness until they experience it, you keep getting stabbed with the broken pieces they made and it’s like a slap of nostalgia.”

Scorpio: You flinched from my touch, hid away in the dark. Little water sign with a shattered heart and atrocious eyes; I’m sorry that your trust has been crumpled like your thousands of papers in the wind. You told me you’d never love or trust anyone again.

Sagittarius: You ran to the edge the world and drowned in seas of sadness, you went over heartbreak hills and lied in beaches with suns burning your face, when you came back you were even more empty than when you left. Your eyes look so much more dull.

Capricorn: There was something enchanting about the way their eyes made your light up and their touch made you smile so broadly, now that they’re gone you’ve gone in a zone of workaholic mode. Anything to keep you busy. Anything to keep you from thinking of them.

Aquarius: You threw away your independence for them, took care of them when they were sick and tangled your hands in their bushy hair. They were your everything, your own world map with compass saying “Go find yourself.” Where are you? You’ve lost yourself.

Pisces: The smoke from weed lingers in your home, your bed hasn’t been made in two weeks. Vodka bottles lie on the floor. You haven’t washed your hair in all of these weeks, you didn’t leave your bad. You listen to their favorite band, I told you to get outside and you said that the only oxygen you had left, abandoned your lungs. They were oxygen, they were toxic.

—  Heartbreak
Dear Self,

I know how you’ve been feeling today. Your life feels empty, and the sad truth is that you have nobody to blame for anything that’s happened . Unlike most people, you haven’t blamed yourself, because you know that you have done everything in your capacity to make things work, to make things happen. I know how ambitious you are, and you do everything you need to do to make your parents proud, to make them happy again. You have no one to share your pain with. Mainly since your pain isn’t because of some tragic accident or loss of life, neither is it because of a sappy breakup or a nasty flu.

But you can feel your true self breaking down a little bit more with every passing day. There’s so much you want to do and so much you want to achieve and you know that you have it in you, yet it’s always a dead end.

You look back in time and see a different version of yourself, someone you can’t recognize now. You have no idea how to define yourself any more. You were a social maniac and have always found yourself the most comfortable among people, lots and lots of people, friends, foes, family, strangers and you managed to plant a seed of memory into everyone you’ve ever met.

Now you’re uncomfortable to be around people, you repel even making a healthy eye contact with someone passing by. I know you aren’t scared or tense to interact with them - to ask how they’re doing, but you’ve lost the urge to make bonds anymore.

You’ve met all kinds of people, seen through each one of them but you’ve realized that no matter how well you know and understand them, you walk right into a boulder beyond which you cannot see, beyond which you know there’s a spot where all their weaknesses lie, and you peek between the brick walls and recoil back - you have seen the ugly side.

This side of them is nasty and no matter what is said or done following it, you’ve lost your trust, you just can’t go back to square one all over again. You know you can never be the same with them again. And as you walk away from them, you know they’ve taken off a small chunk out of you. These chunks total up to the whole of you and you lose yourself running away from them. You cannot risk losing anymore. So you walk alone, and everyday you die a little more.

You now focus on the few people you trust and you’d do anything for them. I know very well how greatly you suck at expressing your love towards these people, somehow you feel that if you reveal it to them you’ll lose the love you have for them, they’re eager and hope to hear it from you. Your family wants to hear you say that you love them. But you just cannot, because you’ve never learned how to. You’ve never told anyone confidently the way they show it movies, to confess love. You love them too much, it’s scary to say it out loud. But you show it in ways nobody ever does.

You have your own weird ways, only if they could listen. Only if they could listen when you scream at them and cry out of guilt the very next moment, when you swear at them now and internally curse yourself next, when you ignore them because you do not want to say you’re sorry, when you plan big to see them happy, when you struggle to smile even as you’re dying inside only so that they don’t sense your sadness.

You are scared to express that you are vulnerable and you are scared to admit that you are scared. You prefer to be an emotionless robot to them, because you’ll never be able to prove how much you really care. They distance themselves from you naturally, and again, you die a little bit inside.

But you know you’re amazing at being a lioness when you want to, your wounds make you stronger and that’s how you like seeing yourself - a lioness on the hunt. And you walk with all your pride as you walk by the people that you’d rather have by your side, again you die a little inside, yet you walk alone with all your pride.

Loads of Love,
Self.

everyone and their mother knows about that injustice scene where superman casually walks through the glass/wall separating him from an incarcerated bruce wayne, but my favorite part during that ordeal is how clark goes “with good behavior you could be out soon” and bruce just replies “i’m not exactly behaving well in here, clark. i’m beating up A LOT of people” with a smile on his face, because it’s exactly what would happen if he’d realistically go to prison in canon and had no incentive to break out

all the bad guys he’s helped get caught ready to jump him because there’s too much bad blood between them, and bruce putting down his book, standing up, dusting with orange overalls and nonchalantly going, “i’m glad we’ve all gathered here today, under this fine weather” before people start crying and flying across the prison yard, a random cat yelping in the background while things crash audibly

×××

Walking through the overcrowded hallway, I felt myself being to tired to move and bumped against several people. Not that I cared.

Normally I didn’t care about much going on in school, referring to the people. I did care about my grades and my career and all- but the people in school? I didn’t care at all about them apart from my friends.

It’s not that I didn’t like them. I mean, I was quite popular in school and I talked to a lot of students over the day. But honestly, I didn’t really listen when they told me about the last party or a concert they went to.

But there was one person that I cared about who wasn’t part of my friends even though I hoped I would have more contact with him. Body contact, too.

It was Peter Parker, the nobody of our school. No one seemed to notice him apart from me. His gorgeous face with the sweet hazel eyes and the fluffy auburn hair…
Yes, he was my secret crush that nobody knew about and nobody ever would.

I kept my little secret a long time, talking to him occasionally or having school projects together which lead to me falling in love with him.

He was so clever and his shy side was so cute that I just couldn’t handle it. I loved how kind he was and he always had something interesting to ramble about.

Nothing caught my attention while walking through the hall way, apart from him. I saw him standing at his locker, opening it to put a book inside. Me and my friends stopped at my best friend’s locker and I occasionally let my gaze slip to Peter for a few seconds.

I jumped when Flash and his friends appeared out of nowhere and pushed Peter against his locker after he had closed it. “What a looser you are!”, Flash exclaimed after Peter groaned loadly, getting everyone’s attention.

“Sorry to ruin your face but with these looks you won’t get a girlfriend, anyway.”, Flash claimed and his friends laughed at this comment before he pushed Peter again.
And Peter only stood there, head down, shoulders stiff while Flash threw several mean words at him.

But when Flash grabbed Peter’s backpack from his hands Peter looked up, his face filled with anger as Flash started throwing all of his stuff on the ground.
“Oh, what’s this?”, Flash exclaimed when he took a piece of paper from the ground. “DEAR Y/N, I wish i had the courage to tell you that I’d walk through fire just to see you smile…”, he started to read and I saw everyone’s eyes stare at me, making my face heat up.

I unconsciously made eye contact with Peter who seemed to be internally screaming. And while I was glued to the spot, not able to speak or think, Flash continued bullying him.

“But you do know”, he laughed, “You do know that someone like Y/N Y/L/N would never love you, right?” Oh, boy, how wrong you were…
I saw Peter’s head lowering again, his fingers brushing over his face before they ran through his hair.
Flash laughed triumphantly and suddenly I felt the strong urge to prove a point.

Someone like Y/N Y/L/N would definitely love Peter Parker.

My legs brought myself over to them, even though my friend’s arm grabbed me slightly. But I ignored it and shoved Flash ’s friends aside so that I could get to Peter.

“Peter, you told me you wouldn’t drag this old thing with you.”, I laughed, rolling my eyes and earning a very confused and very cute look from Peter.
“See? I told you that someone would think that you’re single.”

In the corner of my eye I saw Flash looking at me as confused as Peter and I smiled to myself.
And then I laid my hands on his shoulders and leaned in quickly, pressing my lips on his.

Ignoring the electricity coming from him and the urge to kiss him forever, I pulled back after a few seconds of giving in.

Peter’s face stated pure shock and he stared at me nervously before I smirked at him. “Bye, Peter, see you later.”, I smiled proudly, wandering off to my next class and ignoring everyone’s dazzled looks.

I let out a shaky breath I didn’t know I was holding. This had been life changing.

“Wait, Y/N, what the hell was that?”, my friend wanted to know, a strange look on her face.
“Spontaneous.”, I only answered, shrugging. “Yeah, I know. But what were you thinking?”, she asked and now there was a worried look that made me angry somehow. It seemed like she thinks something is wrong with me just because I kissed my crush. Okay, secrete crush. She couldn’t know this part.

“Nothing really. I just thought that Flash is a dick and Peter doesn’t deserve this.”, I simply said and only got a confused “Okay…” as an answer.

Later that day I sat down at a bench outside, my eyes roaming over the campus. I enjoyed being alone at lunch. Not because of my friends! I simply enjoyed the time to think without talking slash gossiping.

I thought about the kiss, obviously.

Was it right? Apart from the fact that probably the whole school knew it by now, Peter knew too.

But still, I was proud of myself: Helping someone by proving his bully wrong. Somehow it made me feel strong.

And there was another positive aspect, as well. I had kissed my crush Peter Parker!

Thinking of the devil… Peter suddenly stood next to me, a nervous grin on his face.
“Can… uh… Can I join you?”, he chuckled, nodding his head towards the empty seat in front of me. “Sure.”, I nodded, a smile on my face which was maybe a bit too wide.

He let out a relieved sigh as he sat down, letting his bag fall on to the ground.
“Rough day?”, I asked and he only nodded before he leaned forward slightly, his arms supporting his weight.

“Uhm, yeah.”, he replied before biting his lip, my eyes not being able to look at something else but him.
“Actually, it wasn’t that bad.”, he chuckled softly, his brown eyes meeting mine.

“Yeah?”, I grinned and he just nodded with a cute smile on his lips. Oh, how soft those lips had felt on mine…

A few moments of comfortable silence passed before my mind brought back the letter that Flash found in Peter’s backpack.
“Uhm, Peter…”, I started but paused briefly when his beautiful eyes stared at me, “I was wondering… I mean… would you… Would you really walk through fire to see me smile?”
He nodded instantly without a word, nervously fiddling with his fingers before my hands grabbed his. I couldn’t help but smile, my heart beat running in my chest.
“You know, you don’t need to do this. I start smiling as soon as you smile at me.”, I clarified, earning a grin from him and I returned it instinctively.

“Uh, I… um, I wanted to thank you for… you know.”, he began and I only shrugged, playing it cool,“No problem.”
“But the whole school thinks were a couple now.”
“Is that bad?”, I wanted to know, a flirty tone in my voice.

Peter shook his head, causing his brown strands to dance on his fore head. “No, it’s not bad at all.” He clearly gained some confidence when I grinned at his answer. “I liked kissing you.”, he confessed, tilting his head. “No, that’s an understatement. I loved kissing you.”

“That’s good.”, I laughed before grabbed the collar of his shirt and nearly pulled him over the table to feel his soft lips on mine again.

He was able to place his fore arms on the table to support his weight before our eyes closed and our lips met. He hummed softly when I started moving my lips and my grib on his collar loosened since I had him where I wanted. My cheeks blushed due to all to blood that my heart pumped through my veins and I felt the excitement rushing through my whole body.
My fingers wandered up to the back of his neck, playing with some of his strands after Peter tilted his head to deepen the kiss, causing my mind to go mushy.

He pulled himself back slightly, a huge grin on his face when I ran my fingers through his hair. “You like me.”, he breathed out and I nodded before I pecked his lips briefly.

He leaned back again, giving me a charming smile. I had to bite my lip to hid that huge smile on my face which Peter saw anyway and I felt my heart skipping a beat.

This one question wether I wanted to be Peter’s girlfriend was definitely in his head but there was no need to voice it.

He knew that I was in love with him.

Part 2

kit-kat-ronnie  asked:

22 for Klance?? I want ppl to realise how strong my blue boi is

22 - “It’s not heavy.  I’m stronger than I look.”

Lance waits with Keith at the front of the dorm rooms, watching dead leaves get churned up in the cold, morning wind. Their breath comes out in visible clouds and Keith pulls his hood up around his ears. His large suitcase stands between them.

“You don’t have to wait with me.” He says.

“Nah, it’s fine. I was up. Figured you’d want the company.” Lance shrugs. He still wears his pyjamas underneath his coat. His short hair is spiked at odd angles from sleep. Keith smiles gently.

“Well thank you. That’s nice of you.”

“Also someone said your brother was hot and I’m really curious.” Lance smirks. Keith elbows him sharply in the ribs, which only makes Lance laugh harder.

“Here I thought you were being a good friend.”

“I’m your only friend. The bar is pretty low.”

“Hey,” Keith warns. Lance’s smile falters. He presses the back of his hand against Keith’s but doesn’t dare to hold it. Not yet.

“Hey, you know I’m kidding. Hunk and Pidge really love you.”

“You’re so convincing.” Keith drones.

“I’m your roommate. It’s in my job description to sass you.” Lance bumps their shoulders. Keith concedes and laughs. He bites his lip and glances at Lance through his dark hair. His cheeks are flushed pink from the cold. Lance swallows.

Despite their initial friction, Lance has become a valuable part of Keith’s university experience. He’s the only reason Keith has any sort of social circle, he’s the only reason his nutrition hasn’t collapsed completely… he’s the only reason Keith smiles on the hard days. Lance’s chatter and warm expressions have become a staple part of Keith’s routine, and if he’s perfectly honest, keith isn’t sure how he’ll make this christmas break without them. He sighs. Their shoulders still touch. Lance’s fingers brush against his.

“Lance…”

But Keith is cut off by a sleek sedan pulling to a stop in from of them. The driver cheerily pushes the horn, before emerging. He’s tall, broad, and pre-maturely grey in the fringe, but otherwise youthful and handsome. Lance lets out a low whistle.

“Damn, Pidge was right.”

Keith elbows Lance again.

“Don’t talk about him like that.”

“I can definitely see you’re from the same genetic stock.” lance teases. Keith blushes.

“I’m adopted actually.”

“Huh…” Lance blinks. He tries to not look visibly uncomfortable, but he’s at a loss for words. He just nods.

“You two are still hot though. My point remains.”

Keith groans and shoves him. He tries to distract Lance from noticing the growing blush on his cheeks. The two push each other and giggle until Shiro approaches.

“Bro!” He exclaims, before sweeping Keith into a crushing hug. Lance had grappled with Keith enough times, fighting over the last donut or whatnot, to know that he was anything but weak. However, wrapped up in Shiro’s much stronger arms, Keith looks small and even delicate. Lance laughs loudly as Keith wriggles and shouts.

“Shiro! Stop! Put me…!” He kicks out his legs and tries to slip through his arms.

“I missed you! C’mon! Too cool to hug your brother now?” Shiro finally releases the smaller boy. Keith pouts. Lance clears his throat.

“Keith, are you being rude?” Shiro arches an eyebrow in Lance’s direction.

“What?” Keith follows his gaze. “Oh yeah! Shiro, this is my…” He pauses. roommate felt way too impersonal, but it was also accurate. Friend? No… that feels wrong. More than friend? God, that’s too strong, and he doesn’t want Lance to panic.

“… my friend, Lance. He’s also my roommate.” Keith covers all the bases he can. He feels it accurately tells Shiro who Lance is anyway.

“Hey, I’m Takashi. You can call me Shiro.” Shiro holds out his hand. Lance shakes it.

“Lance.”

“Thanks for looking after my brother.”

“Oh, I didn’t…”

“If Keith is still alive I know he had help.” Shiro laughs. Keith pouts. Lance grabs Keith’s wrist and rubs his finger along the soft skin on the underside. Keith sighs and feels warm.

“Well, Keith’s kept me in check too. I would have failed my exams if it weren’t for him.”

“Well that’s good. Glad he’s still focused on learning.” Shiro places his hands on his hips and beams like a proud father.

“Keith, sorry, but we’ve gotta head off if we wanna beat traffic.”

Keith nods. Shiro runs back to the car and pops the trunk. Lance grabs the suitcase before Keith gets a chance.

“Lance, you don’t have to…”

“No, let me help.” He walks the suitcase over and hoists it up. “It’s not heavy.  I’m stronger than I look.” He winks and drops it into the back. Keith shakes his head.

“I know you are.”

Lance sheepishly grins. He steps forward. His hands move awkwardly at his sides before he decides to gently punch Keith in the arm.

“Have a great christmas man.”

“You too.”

They share a quiet moment. Shiro counts to 10 before he interrupts.

“Keith…”

“Yeah, I’m coming.”

Keith and Lance share a glance.

“I gotta…”

“I know. I’ll message you.”

Keith waves before he slips into the passenger seat. Lance stays on the curb, his hands sinking into his coat pockets, and smiles. Keith feels emptiness erupt in his chest. His hand pauses on his seatbelt. The car’s rumble vibrates underneath him and Shiro releases the handbrake. He begins to shift out of park.

“Wait! hang on!” Keith releases his seatbelt and opens the door. Shiro swears as he quickly hits the break so he doesn’t roll over his brother’s foot.

Keith jogs back up to Lance, who stands with a shocked but amused expression.

His eyes widen further when keith kisses him.

It’s quick and chaste. A light pressure and hot breath. Keith pulls away and Lance blinks.

“I uh…” Keith’s eyes dart to the side. “I want to talk to you about…. about something when I get back.”

Lance’s shock fades and he melts into a wide grin. He tips Keith’s chin up and kisses him. A bit longer. His eyes closed and his hand just barely cupping his jaw. He pulls away and brushes Keith’s hair out of his face. He’s always wanted to do that and it sent a thrill through his stomach.

“I’ll call you tonight. I can’t wait until you get back.”

Keith beams. He bites his lower lip.

“Ok.”

He starts to walk backwards and fumbles with the car door handle.

“I gotta…”

“Go! I know!” Lance laughs.

“We’ll talk!”

“We’ll talk.” Lance nods.

Keith slips back into the car and barely notices the movement of them pulling away and driving down the road. He’s too lost in his own happiness and thoughts.

“Soooooo…. not just a friend then?” Shiro teases.

“Shut up.” Keith rolls his eyes.

“My bro’s all grown up!” Shiro wipes away a fake tear.

“I said shut up!”

anonymous asked:

So apparently, baby ducks can imprint. How what would happen is that one day Derek just walks into Deaton's clinic with about ten baby ducks in his arms, which had been following him around all day since they decided for some reason that he is their mom and refused to let him out of their sight .

Derek totally didn’t name them, but, “I think Patrice has abandonment issues.”

“Abandonment issues?” Deaton asked, blinking, and then “Patrice?”

Derek just glared, averting his gaze. Alright, so he had named him. But only because it made them easier to tell apart. “Yes,” he gritted through his teeth, holding out the baby ducks for Deaton to take. “I can’t look after them. So here, you have to take them.”

Deaton shook his head. “I think you’re doing just fine, Derek,” he said in a way that could either mean ‘fuck off’ or ‘these ducklings are part of some bigger plan that I’m not going to tell you about’ and then walked away. Just like that.

The bastard.

~

Later that evening, Stiles came home to find Derek….and several ducklings on his bed.

“Please tell me that’s not the pack,” was the first thing he said, panicked that he wasn’t feeling just as panicked about that scenario as he should be. He wasn’t going to lie and say the thought of Jackson being turned into a baby duck didn’t amuse him.

Greatly.

“No, it’s not the pack,” Derek answered, rolling his eyes, letting one crawl into his hands. “I think….” he frowned. “I don’t think they have…parents.”

“Oh?” Stiles asked, carefully watching Derek’s face.

“Yeah, “ Derek nodded, all serious and utterly adorable. “And….I don’t know what to do.”  It was hard to read Derek most of the time, but Stiles thought he was getting better at it and this was definitely Derek speak for: ‘I found these baby animals and now I am scared I’m going to hurt them because I don’t have the best track record. SOS, send help, I am a tragic, brooding, beautiful mess’.

Okay, so maybe not the last part. But Stiles was definitely on to Derek.

Derek looked up at Stiles then, as if reading his thoughts, like Stiles had all the answers to the universe. Usually, Stiles was flattered when Derek came to him for help. Well, not flattered, per se. Smug. Smug was the word he’d use. He liked being smug around Derek, his own personal fucked up foreplay. But right now, something different was tingling in the pit of his stomach. He felt warm, and maybe just a little bit helpless. He wasn’t sure if it was a feeling he necessarily liked.

“Well, how about we start with a pond?” he suggested, leaning back against his bedroom door, resisting the urge to grab his phone and snap a picture.

“A pond?” Derek’s eyebrows shot up. “You mean, like, build a pond?” He started shaking his head, like the thought terrified him.

Silly, beautiful wolf.

Stiles shrugged. “Why not? You have the money, don’t you? Plus, I think they like you.” He winked and Derek flushed, right to the tips of his ears. Stiles laughed.

“Come on, sourwolf,” he grinned, shaking his head, picking up his backpack from where he had dumped it on the floor. “Let’s go make us a home.”

~

“It’s your turn to feed them,” Stiles groaned, turning in Derek’s arms. He swore he could hear the ducks already quacking impatiently. “Please, babe, I’ll do anything if I don’t have to get up right now. I’ll even blow you. Twice. It’s so waaaaaarm.” He stretched, like the lazy cat he was, and smiled all the way down to his toes.

“Don’t call me ‘babe’,” was the only reply he received.

Stiles groaned again. “Sweetheart?” he tried, instead. “Honey? Chicken pot pie of my life?”

For that, his Derek Hale shaped cover was snatched away from him.

“What’s wrong with chicken pot pie???” he yelled, heart broken. Utterly, utterly heart broken. No, betrayed. Derek was mean.

“Nothing, if you want to stay married to me, noodle.

Stiles grimaced. Okay, they’d work on their pet names for each other outside of sex later. They couldn’t just stick with ‘asshole’ - it was starting to lose its meaning when they fought.

Shoving a pillow in Derek’s face, because when was that ever not satisfying, Stiles crawled to the side of the bed - and because he had no dignity - rolled out of it. “See if you get any sex when I get back,” he called over his shoulder, grabbing Derek’s boxers on the way out of the door.

Derek only grinned when Stiles looked back, already falling back to sleep.

Stiles refused to find it adorable.

Your best friend had raved on and on about asking his crush to the dance, and when he finally did it, you were the first he told. You pretended to be excited for him, and in a small way, you genuinely were. But when you thought of Liz slow-dancing with Peter instead of you, and him kissing her at the end of the night and not you, the excitement for him was largely overshadowed by sadness, because it would never be you. He would never have feelings for you.

So when you saw Liz walk into the Homecoming dance without Peter on her arm, your eyebrows furrowed. She walked around, greeting people everywhere around her, when she made her way to your group with Ned and Michelle.

“Hey guys!” She said excitedly and smiled, and you forced a smile back. She was a nice girl; you couldn’t deny that. She was good for Peter.

“Hey,” you said back. “Where’s Peter? I thought he’d be with you,” you tried to keep your voice casual, but Michelle caught your eye and smirked. She knew your secret.

“Oh, he’s in the car with my dad. He should be here soon,” she smiled again, dazzling one, before excusing herself to greet more partygoers. You turned around to face your two friends, fake smile still on your face.

“You okay?” Ned asked, a sympathetic expression on his face that you didn’t see often. He knew your secret too.

(It wasn’t much of a secret to anyone but Peter.)

“I’m okay,” you gave a real smile this time, and his eyes shifted to somewhere behind you. You stiffened, knowing your best friend was here. You turned around, seeing a panicked look on his face, but you knew that you were the only one who could tell his expression. You’d known each other for years; you knew all of his in-and-outs.

He went up to Liz and tapped her on the shoulder, and as he spoke to her, you saw his expression become guilty. You couldn’t see Liz’s because her back was turned to you, but you were sure it wasn’t pleasant. You saw him mouth ‘I’m sorry’ before sprinting through the gym doors and into the hallways of the school.

Before you knew what you were doing, you were running after him. You abandoned your shoes after crashing through the gym doors and followed him barefoot. “Peter!” You yelled and turned another corner, but he continued to sprint farther ahead of you. After yelling his name again and turning a few more corners he stopped in front of a set of lockers and turned around to look at you.

“(Y/N), go back to the dance,” he said, the panic now even more evident on his face.

“No,” you said stubbornly. “What do you think you’re doing? You’ve been looking forward to this for so long!”

He simply shook his head before grabbing you by the shoulders and turning you around. “You need to go. Now.”

“No!” You pushed his hands away from you. He looked at you desperately. “What is going on with you?”

He turned away again and mumbled under his breath, pacing back and forth.

“Peter,” you said his name again, softer this time, and grabbed his hand to stop his pacing. “I’m your best friend. You can tell me anything,” you say, ignoring the feeling erupting in your chest from him squeezing your hand.

“I know, I know,” he whispered and stayed silent for a few moments, staring down at your connected hands, before sighing, pulling away from you, and turning towards the lockers again. He bent down and pulled the bottom of the lockers, and you gasped in shock when the wall of lockers lifted up to reveal a small crevice filled with multiple things.

Peter pulled out a ball of red and blue fabric and unrolled it, then turned around to show you it. You stared at try fabric in his hands, seeing the spider on the front and the mask with goggles falling to the side. You stared at it, and stared at it, and stared at it, before it finally clicked. You had seen this suit on the news multiple times before, clad on a mystery man you had always found so brave.

You looked up at Peter and noticed his nervous expression matching yours. “Why do you have Spiderman’s suit, Pete?” You whispered, and you knew why he had it, you knew, but you couldn’t bring yourself to comprehend it.

“You know why, (Y/N),” he sighed and looked down at the wrinkled fabric in his hands.

“I need to hear you say it,” your voice was still quiet, and you looked down at the suit again.

“I’m Spiderman,” Peter finally said, and your resolve crumbled. Tears flooded your eyes and your vision became blurry, and a few tears fell down your cheeks.  You weren’t sure why you were crying. You didn’t know if it was the betrayal of him not telling you, or the fear of him getting hurt, or something else entirely. But the tears continued to fall.

“(Y/N),” he sighed again, and pulled you into a hug. “It’s okay. Why are you crying?”

“I don’t know,” you sobbed and laughed and cried, and Peter hugged you and rubbed your back until you could compose yourself. You pulled back from him after a few minutes and wiped your face with your hands, sure you looked like a mess. “But why are you leaving now?”

He sighed for what seemed like the millionth time in the last few minutes. “You know the guy that I’ve been fighting? All the news channels have been talking about it. Or, who Spiderman has been fighting.”

You nodded. “That bird dude?” Peter laughed, a real smile on his face that made you smile too.

“Yeah, yeah, the bird dude.” He chuckled and looked down at his feet before beginning to back away. “I gotta go. He’s gonna steal from Mr. Stark’s plane, and I need to stop him.”

“But why now,” you stressed, taking steps closer to him. “It’s our Homecoming.”

“He’s Liz’s dad,” he said, not actually answering the question, and you gasped.

“Liz’s dad?” Peter nodded. “Does she know?” He shook his head, backing away again.

“I really have to go, (Y/N),” he said, and went to turn around.

“Wait!” You grabbed his hand again, and he looked at you expectantly. “I, um,” you wanted to tell him, you needed to tell him before it was too late. But you didn’t want to burden him before he went to risk his life. So instead of telling him what you desperately wanted to, you pulled him into a hug.

He breathed deeply, resting his chin on top of your head as you listened to his heartbeat under your ear. You pulled back the slightest bit to look him in the eyes. “Just… come back alive, okay?”

He smiled lightly and moved his hands from your back to your hands. “I always do.” He squeezed them once and let go, grabbing the suit from where he dropped it on the floor and running away from you. You sniffed loudly as he turned a corner, disappearing from your vision, and the sound echoed through the empty hallways.

You began to walk back to the dance, wiping at your face again and collecting your discarded shoes to make yourself presentable. And as you made your way through the school by yourself, you thought, Good luck, Spiderman.

you’re sat next to the girl you’ve been crushing on, she looks cute and you’ve been making out at this picnic all afternoon. you’re baking in the august heat haze and your lips are sticky from candy and fruit juice. You don’t know where your relationship is going but you know you’re having fun. you feel like you’re in a Hayley Kiyoko music video.

you and your best friend of many years are lying on the sofa eating snacks, legs tangled. you were gonna watch a movie but you got caught up in just talking about nothing and forgot to press play. you’re suddenly struck by how much you’ve been through together, how happy you both are now, and how much you love them. your heart feels very full. you laugh at their lame joke.

it’s 3am and you’re walking back from a party, still a little drunk but sobering fast. the streetlights and the familiar sounds of your hometown make you feel very melancholy. you find yourself sat on a bench, staring at the sky and filled with an indefinable ache in your soul. you think maybe you’re homesick for somewhere you haven’t been yet and missing people you don’t know.

Neighbor kept reporting me to the HOA for petty things, opportunity knocked to pay her back and I took it.

I found out today that my revenge was complete so I came here to share it.

My neighbor who we shall call Chirsty would report us to our HOA for literally everything she didn’t like. Trash can still on the street at 5 PM on Trash day, reported. Kids bike outside while kids are still playing, reported. Didn’t mow this weekend (typically I do this Monday nights), reported Monday morning. Dog barking at 2 in the afternoon as she and her dog walk on the path behind our house, reported. In many cases these were not issues covered by the HOA, but due to repeated reporting the board did fine us and I had to go spend the evening waiting through a 2 hour meeting to have them removed. This kept happening and was driving me nuts. Both my wife and I spoke to her and tried to find out why she felt this was ok and she told us, “You just need to do a better job being a good neighbor.”

Fast forward to early this summer. She posts on a neighborhood website sharing a video about the anti-vax movement. In general the replies are pretty aggressive about telling her she is full of it, but she keeps pushing back leading to a super long post about how we all are wrong and we should listen because she is a doctor. She signs it “Dr Christy Lastname, Naturopathic Physician”

At this point I am mostly just wondering what the heck any kind of doctor would be against vaccines. This made no sense to me so I started digging. I did find that Christy was listed as a doctor on sites where you could find physicians. I dug more into what exactly a Naturopathic Physician was and found that in my state of Colorado they are regulated and required to maintain a license to practice. I checked into it and found out the following

  1. Christy was NOT in the state database as a Naturopathic Physician
  2. The board who regulates it has an online reporting tool

At this point I took all the information I had, grabbed screenshots and checked my timeline and reported her as claiming to be a Naturopathic Physician when she was not.

I then followed that up with this post on the neighborhood website:

  • This is a hot button topic for me and because of that and Christy signing her post as “Dr Lastname” I had to dig some. I for one am a HUGE fan of including whole person treatment. I think Doctors of Osteopathic medicine are wonderful as they work to integrate whole health into the picture with well researched medical best practices. Naturopathy less so which is the problem here. One researched article here: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15208545/ breaks down a lot of the issues quite well. It is almost 13 years old, but still quite good at explaining the valid concerns. I further checked as Colorado DOES regulate naturopathy and I could not find any Christy Lastname listed there. My thought was that it is entirely possible that she holds a license to practice in Colorado and my search wasn’t working, but even just searching her first name or zip code or “MyTown” or “TownNearUs” provides no results for a Christy Lastname. There are 2 Naturopathic doctors in TownNearUs, I used this search: apps.colorado.gov/dora/licensing/Lookup/LicenseLookup.aspx linked from this page: colorado.gov/pacific/dora/Naturopathy

At this point Christy locked the post and later deleted the entire thing. I was pretty dang happy that she removed the post, but today it got better. In the mail I received a copy of the cease and desist letter that Christy received form the state about a month ago. It told her that she must cease and desist her “practice” immediately.

Ravenclaw Headcanon

When Ravenclaws are going to a class for the first time, they get really nervous and triple check that they’re in the right room. If by chance they end up in the wrong room, they won’t leave because it’s after the professor has said what class it is and everyone is settled in their seats. The Ravenclaw doesn’t want everyone to watch them as they walk out, and they just accept the absence from the class they were supposed to be in.

You scrunch up your nose as you stand behind Hoseok, fingers digging into the hem of his shirt as he drizzles cheese onto the nachos.

“Are you sure you know what you’re doing?” You ask, eyeing the mess of salsa, ground beef, tortilla chips, and cheese on the baking sheet.

He groans, tipping his head back, “Of course I know what I’m doing. God, do I look like I’m 12?”

“Nah,” you respond, grinning cheekily, “More like 15. That awkward mid-puberty boy type of look.”

He swats his hand at your grip on his shirt, pointing the wooden spoon in his hand at the sofa.

“Go and sit and be quiet if you want any food,” he says, turning his attention back to the nachos.

Getting Hot During Coachella || K.A.

Word Count: 1212

Pairing: Kj x reader

Summary: Camila takes you to Coachella with the rest of the cast of Riverdale. You and Kj get separated from the group and things get intimate.

Masterlist

It was hot as hell outside. You were sweating in places you didn’t even know could sweat, but it was all for the Coachella experience. You had been wanting to go to Coachella for a while, but it never happened for several reasons being either you had waited too late or you had made other plans. It wasn’t until this year that everything had worked out and you were going to Coachella with your best friend, Camila Mendes.

You knew her costars would be there but didn’t know they would be in a group together. The cast of Riverdale was partnering with H&M during the festival and would have to travel and take pictures as a group. This wasn’t a big problem for you, but you were a little anxious that it would be awkward. You barely knew the rest of the cast, you had only hung out with them a couple of times at parties and such, but never really sat down to have a real conversation. Camila assured you that the weekend would be a lot of fun, so you decided to push all the nervous thoughts out of your head; you were determined to have a good time.

You were dressed in a flowy, white button up crop top with light denim high waisted shorts. You paired the outfit with a chunky belt, gold sandals, and light pink sunglasses. Your hair was half up, half down and curled into soft beach waves. You were dressed very modest compared to some of the other girls there that seemed like they were wearing just their underwear. You weren’t judging them at all honestly you were quite jealous. It was extremely hot out and you knew they weren’t feeling the heat as bad as you were.(inspo)

Camila and the rest of the cast had to take pictures for their partnership with H&M, so you decided to go on into the festival to get a good spot for the first act of the day, Kendrick Lamar. When you finally got a good spot, Camila texted you and said that they were on their way. You responded quickly and scrolled through your phone waiting for them to get there.

It was about 10 minutes before they got to the stage and another 5 before you could find each other. Camila properly introduced you to the cast while you smiled and said a small hello to each of them. Your eyes landed on Kj as Camila introduced you and you were taken back. You had only seen Kj a couple of times in pictures or from across the room at parties. The tall boy had reddish brown hair and a beautiful smile. His outfit was very simple with just a plain blue stripped button, which you were sure would come unbuttoned at some point during the day, and jeans. His tan arms were on display with a green band wrapped around his wrist.

You stood beside Camila with your mouth slightly open before you realized you were staring and smiled back at him. When everyone started talking in their own conversations, you pulled on Camila’s elbow to talk to her privately.

“You never told me how hot Kj was,” You whispered.

She laughed in response, “You should totally go for it,” She exclaimed.

“What? No. He is your coworker, that would be weird.”

“No, it wouldn’t,” Camila pushed, “Just go talk to him and see where it leads.”

You glared at her as she gave you an encouraging push over toward Kj.

You stood on his right side and looked up at him. He was currently talking to Cole, so you took this time to take in his beauty. His smile was bright and contagious as he laughed at something Cole said. His jaw was carved and strong, and you thought about how you wanted to run your lips over it. As you were thinking about all the unholy activities you wanted to do with that boy, he turned around to you and looked down. When you made eye contact, you were speechless and frozen in your spot.

You don’t think Kj noticed as you asked you, “So are you into Kendrick Lamar?”

You suddenly snapped out of it as you answered, “Yeah! His music is what got me through last semester.”

That led you into a conversation about college and other things until Kendrick walked on stage and started to perform. You got so into it, singing along and never missing a beat. Kj looked down at you impressed at your ability to keep up with the rapper. After what felt like only 4 songs, Kendrick got off the stage. Future was the next to perform at this stage, but Grouplove was up next at stage B. You really wanted to see them perform, but Camila had wanted to stay for Future. Kj had overheard your conversation and admitted to wanting to see them perform also.

You two split from the group to go see the band perform. On the way over to the stage, a large crowd formed in your way, and out of habit you grabbed Kj’s hand. Kj didn’t react though, he just pulled you behind him through the crowd. When you had made it into an open space, he didn’t let go and neither did you.

You made it over just in time as the band was walking on stage. You started to get hyped up as you started to dance to the song, “Tongue Tied.” You were moving your body to the beat and singing along. Kj was doing the same as you and you were dancing together. You looked over at him having a blast and you smiled to yourself. He was truly breath taking, the way his smile reached his eyes and the way his body moved had you entranced.

Kj looked over at you and moved closer to where you were in front of him. He put his hand on your waist in a playful way, moving your body against his. You both started to laugh, having such a good time. You two danced for the rest of the set which lasted about 45 minutes.

The last song the band played was “Let Me In” and as it was a slower song, Kj turned you around to face him while you two danced close to each other. You looked up into his eyes as you playfully dragged your hand along his arm. Kj then ducked his down and in the heat of the moment, brought his lips to yours. The kiss was sweet but had a sense of urgency behind it. Kj broke the kiss to look down at you and you made brief eye contact before you crashed your lips against his.

Kj wrapped his arms around your waist and picked you up while you deepened the kiss. The song ended too quickly for your liking as Kj put you back down on the ground and broke the kiss.

“Can I tell you something?” Kj ushered as he brought his forehead to rest on yours and you hummed in response.

“I didn’t really want to come see Grouplove, it’s just that I wanted to get you away from the group.” Kj had a look of accomplishment on his face as the words left his mouth.

“Mhm, of course, you did.” You said with a laugh as you brought your lips back to his.

What traveling has taught me:

-It’s not a race. I was always so bummed about the number of countries I’ve been to compared to other people my age until I understood that the number of places visited is not what traveling is about at all. It’s not important about how many places you’ve been but the depth you’ve explored them. I have been to some beautiful places all around the world that I am insanely grateful for. We can not compare our journeys to others.

-Read books you normally wouldn’t read. Question each line. Watch movies you normally wouldn’t go see. Study the cinematography. Order the meal on the menu you can’t pronounce. This is how you discover new parts of yourself.

-Take care of our earth. We are destroying it faster than we even know. Humans need places that have not been altered or rearranged by man.

-Simplify. Clean. Get rid of shit. We don’t need a lot to live. Oh, and, pack light.

-Walk barefoot. Harden the bottom of your feet. Wear less makeup and dress the way you want. Be comfortable with your natural body. Drink more water. Take care of yourself.

-You have the power to choose love. Love the sky, the stars, the animals, the people, the trees, the street corners. Always choose to love.

-Going alone is okay. If we all waited for someone to travel with us, we’d be waiting for a very, very long time. So, please go even if you have no one to go with. There are millions of people all over the world that are just waiting to meet you. Some of them you’ll meet in a hostel room and you’ll end up spending the night walking through the street markets, some of them you’ll meet at a bar and discover new corners of a city you didn’t know existed, some of them you’ll meet sitting on a bench at a bus stop and you’ll end up sharing the best coffee you’ve probably ever had, some of them you’ll meet watching the sunset on the beach and you’ll end up sharing stories and laughing with them until the morning and some of them will end up being your best friends. And sometimes you’re going to be alone and going on tours, to the movies, or to restaurants sounds scary to do by yourself at first but soon enough you’ll learn that it is completely okay to be alone. Solo does not mean lonely.

-Don’t say you don’t like anything until you try it at least three times.

-Save your change.

-Spend less time on social media. It’s no secret that social media is addictive and it’s really good at taking away precious moments. It’s important to not be glued to your phone or laptop while abroad. Social media will always be there for you when you get home.

-Traveling is overly romanticized. It is very hard work. It does not solve all your problems that you have at home. And traveling is not what it looks like on Instagram.

-When you’re eating, really taste your food. Talk to the locals. Immerse yourself fully into this new culture. When you’re out hiking, let go of your phone. This is how you’re going to get the best experience possible. Live in the moment.

-Take photos. It is physically impossible to remember all these moments in your life. Someday down the road, maybe when you’re feeling a little depressed or bored, you can grab your camera and scroll through these photos that’ll remind you of some of the best times of your life.

-It’s okay to look like a tourist. It’s cool to make mistakes. Don’t be afraid to ask a questions. If you make a mistake, do or say something offensive then and apologize and move on. Your life won’t be over.

-Cheesy souvenirs are never worth it. Collect sea glass, your train tickets, plane tickets, maps, stickers and coins. Chances are those colosseum magnets you bought in rome were really made in china. Support the locals if you’re going to buy souvenirs.

-People are good. I’m sure you’ve heard or experienced this before but the people with nearly nothing are the most giving. We can all learn something from them.

-The world is not as bad and scary as the news makes it out to be.

-Nothing will ever go as you expect it to. Plans go out the door. I learned this the hard way. In fact, I am sure every traveler has learned this the hard way. You’ll miss flights, you’ll get flat tires on road trips, you’ll end up spending a lot more money than you expected, you’ll miss buses, you’ll have to run to trains to get to them on time, I promise you’ll have a dead battery when all you want to do is call mom to make you feel better, the hostel you wanted will be full, your dumb airline will lose all your luggage, things will get canceled and you’ll spend many unexpected nights crying but despite all the struggles that traveling brings upon us, it is always worth it. The tears, sore shoulders and blistered feet are always worth it. There’s no point in getting mad that your plan fell through.

-Everything happens for a reason. If you get an opportunity, take it and if something comes along in your life to change it, let it.
