One Piece ワンピース [Water 07 Saga / Enies Lobby Arc] : Cipher Pol Number 09 (CP9) vs The Straw Hat Pirates

Nico Robin : “First with Aokiji..and now, I’ve involved you twice! If this is to continue forever, no matter how kind and compassionate you all are…someday, it will be too much of a burden. Someday, you’ll betray me and cast me aside! That’s my greatest fear.. That’s why I didn’t want you to come rescue me! If I’m going to die someday anyway..I want to die here!
Chief Spandam : “I see, that makes perfect sense! Hahaha! Look at that symbol Straw Hats! It represents the unity of more than 170 nations…it represents the World! Do you realize how frivolous your resistance is?! Do you understand the sheer power of the organization that is after this one woman?!
Captain “Straw Hat” Luffy : “I totally get who Robin’s enemy is. Sogeking. Shoot down that flag.
“Sogeking” Usopp : “Roger. Hissatsu Firebird Star!”
Chief Spandam : Are you crazy?! Do you really think you can survive now that the entire world is your enemy??
Captain “Straw Hat” Luffy : “Bring it on!! Robin! I still haven’t heard it from your lips! Say that you want to live!!”
Nico Robin : *Live? I didn’t think I could wish for that. No one..ever allowed me to wish it. If it’s really make one little wish..I..*  “I WANT TO LIVE!!”
Captain “Straw Hat” Luffy : *heh* “Let’s go!”

A.U. where CP9 are secret paramilitary police like the Nazi SS & the Straw Hats are a (gang) crew in high school. My 2nd all-time favorite moment in One Piece! The Water 07 Saga was a superbly written storyline in OP. The twist of the Cipher Pol Number 09 members, the story of Cutty Flam & Shipwright Tom, and the clashes between the two groups blew me away. The Enies Lobby arc also revealed the Straw Hats in their peak conditions, very similar to the “Sasuke Recovery Mission Arc” from Naruto, these are my favorite kinds of arcs when you get to see many key characters fight to their full potential. Nico Robin was such a beautifully written character and her backstory was precious. I’m kind of sad to see her thrown on the backlines in the New World because she deserves better. Also, Sogeking was a huge development for Usopp, really pushed his character forward in the series. And of course, Blueno vs Luffy & Rob Lucci vs Luffy were some of the best fights in the series. Gear 2nd!

Random Tip: Begin your campaign with a by-the-numbers story arc.

My office 5e campaign just wrapped up it’s first major story-arc. There are still threads that can be followed up on, and there are indications of a greater threat in the world of Edhenon– but we came to a satisfying resolution on a goal the players have spent four levels trying to accomplish.

The arc was pretty generic: The characters were attempting to join an adventuring guild in the city. There were side treks and mini-missions involved in that, but everything was built on gearing for their initiation event.

This required very little brainpower as Dungeon Master- Generic bad guys, generic macguffins, generic “Help us!” situations.

Over the last few months of play, the players have been able to learn about and fine-tune their characters personalities and their wants*, and I’ve able to quietly absorb all of that information. Now, as I’m setting things up for a second major arc, I’m filled to the brim with ideas on how to make their lives more interesting, and the consequences more personal.

The training wheels are off, and I can now hurt much more than the characters’ HP.

(*Player Pro-Tip: What your character wants is so much more important than your backstory. I’ve seen players fill up pages with backstory, and no idea of their personal direction forward. Don’t be that player!)

One Piece Ladies - Viola

Episode 632: “A Dangerous Love! The Dancer Girl - Violet!

An AU where the Phantom troupe doesn’t kill Kurta.

Kurapika sets on his journey to find a doctor. He finds not one but many that would definitely be able to help Pairo but runs into an unexpected obstacle: money. (*points at Leorio*) Naturally none of them are willing to travel to a distant village no one has heard about. At least not without being paid first.

Kurapika is determined to get a doctor so he tries to get a job but who would want to hire a child? He ends up getting tricked and loses most of his belongings. His bird gets stolen and money he has been able to save turns out to be fake. Defeated Kurapika is unable to return home. He is unable to face them after failure. It’s probably too late for Pairo anyway. It’s better if they think he’s dead.

Kurapika ends up in a place where everyone is accepted. Meteor city is now his home. It doesn’t take long until his exceptional talent is noticed. A local gang leader asks him to join them despite being so young. With their help Kurapika is able to learn nen in no time. He is intelligent and loyal. He becomes their leader’s right-hand man and one of their most feared members.

I have wanted to do something with ‘always negative!’ for a long time, and idk, it felt relevant for the “cowardly/brave” theme. I know a lot of people think its just badass that Usopp is immune to Negative Hollow, but I read it as really sad, esp when thriller bark is just after water seven, aka Sad Usopp Arc number one. Also I know Sanji didn’t mean the ‘i don’t care if you die usopp’ shit, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a pretty shitty thing to say, esp to someone with low confidence.
