Alternate Nostril Breathing

Our body is very advanced in communication, healing and learning abilities. Often, when this body/machine is not working optimally, then there is a change of malfunction in this machine and that can cause failures of various parts/body parts in our body.

One of the best way to keep this machine alive and active is to first balance it. This balancing can be done by many methods, but the method of ALTERNATE BREATHING is phenomenal.

LEFT and RIGHT of HUMAN BODY

Its important to understand how the composition of our body is. Left side is cooler side and right side is hot side. A perpetual balance has to be maintained in order for the body to function properly.

Left side is balanced by breathing from right side of nostril and Right side is balanced by breathing from Left side of nostril.

Chandra Bhedi Pranayam (Cool Breathing)

1) Sit on chair straight or crossed legged without slouching and neck should be loose and straight.

2) Using right hand, close the right nostril with thumb and inhale from left nostril slowly filling your lungs

3) Hold

4) Exhale from right nostril slowly exhaling slowly by closing left nostril with ring finger.

5) Ratio of Inhale:Hold:Exhale (1:4:2)

Effects

This will immediately cool your body and bring extra heat to a balance. Can be used to reduce fever and sinus issues.

Surya Bhedi Pranayam (Hot Breathing)

1) Sit on chair straight or crossed legged without slouching and neck should be loose and straight.

2) Using right hand, close the left nostril with ring finger and inhale from right nostril slowly filling your lungs

3) Hold

4) Exhale from left nostril slowly exhaling slowly by closing right nostril with thumb.

5) Ratio of Inhale:Hold:Exhale (1:4:2)

Effects

This will immediately heat your body and bring extra coldness to a balance. Can be used to bring activity to mind and useful when starting something new with great activity.

Anulom Vilom Pranayama (Cool and Hot Breathing Together)

When Chandra bhedi (cool breathing) and Surya bhedi (hot breathing) are done alternately one another another by inhaling from left and exhaling from right and then inhaling from right and exhaling from left, it produces excellent balancing effect on our mind and clears our cranium.

hi somewhere in your blog u have written about pressing middle finger from bottom to top for high bp pls tell me how it reduces bp ?and can a high bp person do kapalbhati if yes why, if no why and the duration ?

The wisdom comes from science of Acupressure. Massaging middle finger from bottom to top affects corresponding meridians in the body. These meridians are responsible for blood circulation.

Kapalbhati is one of the shatkriyas (cleansing techniques) of hatha yoga. It is not recommended in High Blood Pressure. Kapalbhati can be too demanding on cardiac function as expulsion of air from lungs and diaphragm is vigorous. The cardiac function increase considerably and there are chances of haemorrhage if blood pressure is not stable. Ujjayi and Anulom Viloma pranayama are less demanding. These are generally recommended to people with hypertension. Anyhow, all forms of shatkriyas and pranyamas have to be first learnt and performed under guidance of experienced yoga teacher or a guru. Never play with these techniques by watching them on television or video sites. These techniques have profound effect on nerves and some pranayamas have a deep effect on moulding your subconscious.

Hi can u suggest me a yoga routine which can be followed after uterus removal

Removal of any organ leaves a void in the body. Body loses balance and there is a loss of nervine energy. Uterus removal has its complications and side effects. I recommend you to practice balancing poses for a year. After a year, you should be adept in holding the poses for a minute without flickering of limbs. The common basic balancing poses are Mountain Pose, Tree Pose, Downward Dog Pose, Extended Triangle Pose and Eagle Pose. The two breathing exercises you must do are Anulom Vilom Pranayama (Alternate Nostril Breathing) and Nadi Shodhan Pranayama. Practice Nadi Shodhan Pranyama only after your set your rhythms right in alternate breathing.

These poses and breathing will restore your sense of balance and nervine energy. A routine will eliminate side effects of uterus removal. Women experience weight gain and hormonal fluctuations after uterus removal. A routine in Yoga will prevent such side effects. Take special care of your diet. Home cooked Vegetable soups, nuts, whole grains and roughage should be part of your diet. Eat diet that is alkalizing in nature. A thirty minute early morning walk is also recommended. This will allow your body to soak morning sun and will step up your stamina.
