By the late nineties, Antron Singleton, better known by his stage name, Big Lurch , had gained a respectable following as a rapper in the Bay Area. He was likely destined for success when in April of 2002, he was arrested after police found him wandering, naked and bloodied, down a street in Los Angeles. In his apartment, police found the body of his roommate. 21-year old Tynisha Ysais, which had been badly mutilated. Her chest was torn open, her lungs had been ripped out and gnawed on, and her face had also been chewed. The blade of a knife had been broken off in her shoulder. A medical exam performed on Antron Singleton found pieces of Tynisha’s flesh in his stomach. It was also discovered that Singleton had been smoking PCP not long before the murder.
PCP, also known as Angel Dust, is known to cause dissociation, hallucinations, delusions, intense psychosis, paranoia, and disordered thinking. Urban legends tell of a sort of “superhuman strength” brought on by PCP, but this is a myth likely fueled by the erratic and violent behavior of users, which can make them appear stronger than they are. Regardless of the influence of PCP on Singleton’s behavior during the murder, he was charged and convicted of torture and murder in 2003 and was sentenced to life in prison.
