another problem set

T.W. R.A.

The memories seem to come in layers. For example, the first memory might be of incest; then they remember robes and candles; next they realize that their father or mother or both were present when they were being abused. Another layer will be the memory of seeing other people hurt and even killed. Then they remember having seen babies killed. Another layer is realizing that they participated in the sacrifices. One of the most painful memories may be that they even sacrificed their own baby. With each layer of memory comes another set of problems with which they must deal.— Glenn L. In public, Kida will grab his hand and laugh, loud and bright, as he babbles about anything. He’ll carry Mikado on his back, show him the best places in Ikebukuro.

In private, Kida is quieter, hesitant as they lace their fingers together. Mikado hums quietly as he squeezes their joined hands, and writes in another answer to the problem set. He wants their lips to slip together the same way their fingers do, but he can wait.

Kida is worth it.

Hi! Um, I've just read your recent post where you mentioned Báthory. In case you would like anything translated about her (even though you already did an entry on her) I would be more than happy, since I'm Hungarian... Anyway, have a lovely day!

Thank you! I occasionally get offers of help like this, but usually I need more translation help than I could ask for in good conscience. We’re talking entire books, dissertations, diaries that are incredibly difficult to access, that sort of thing.

An example: I’ve long desired for more English-language info on Brazilian/Italian ballerina/rioter Marietta Maria Baderna, and some readers have been kind enough to look into her! After some went hunting for info, we determined that there is, in fact, at least one foreign-language biography about her, but it’s really hard to find. Seeing as I’d want to get most of it translated, and I don’t even know how long it is or whether it’s any good, it’s an undefined, and possibly quite large, problem set.

Another example (which didn’t require translation but still gets to the heart of the problem): I got an email from a researcher who pointed me towards some unpublished manuscripts about Zelia Nuttall. The researcher made some really interesting claims about Zelia’s personal life, which I wanted to corroborate before putting out into the wild – they’re not in any book out there. But there’s only two copies of the manuscript, one at Harvard and one at Berkeley. And it’s around 1000 pages long. One of my very nice SF-based friends dutifully sat there for three days plowing through the manuscript, trying to find the evidence I’d asked for, but came up empty-handed. I owe said friend all the beer in the world now.

So, I super appreciate the offers of help, but I also feel terrible asking so much of people, and possibly wasting their time.

Weep Little Lion Man

Summery: Joaquín mourns his fallen friend and watches in guilt as others do the same

Rating: K+

Pairing: Manolo/María

Note: My contribution to this tiny (but heavy in Spongebob references) fandom. If anyone out there has requests hit me up. I love them. link

Joaquín was not an idiot. He pined for María for so long and watched Manolo do the same that he knew what it looked like in others. María had always preferred Manolo, even as children. He didn’t doubt her love for him, but she looked at Manolo in a way different than anyone else. Manolo never noticed of course, and he doubted María truly knew herself. It sparked jealousy in Joaquín and it was that same jealousy that jumped out of his throat when he told Manolo he should have died instead.
