Harvey Weinsten sexually Harassed Lupita Nyong’o

Lupita: “I have been following the news and reading the accounts of women coming forward to talk about being assaulted by Harvey Weinstein and others. I had shelved my experience with Harvey far in the recesses of my mind, joining in the conspiracy of silence that has allowed this predator to prowl for so many years. I had felt very much alone when these things happened, and I had blamed myself for a lot of it, quite like many of the other women who have shared their stories.

But now that this is being discussed openly, I have not been able to avoid the memories resurfacing. I have felt sick in the pit of my stomach. I have felt such a flare of rage that the experience I recount below was not a unique incident with me, but rather part of a sinister pattern of behavior.

I met Harvey Weinstein in 2011 at an awards ceremony in Berlin, while I was still a student at the Yale School of Drama. An intermediary introduced him to me as “the most powerful producer in Hollywood.” As an aspiring actress, I was of course eager to meet people in the industry but cautious about strangers, and the intentions of men in general. So I tried to vet this famous producer by asking my dinner-table companions what they knew of him. A woman who was a producer herself cautiously advised me to “keep Harvey in your corner.” She said: “He is a good man to know in the business, but just be careful around him. He can be a bully.” And so I exchanged contacts with him in the hopes that I would be of consideration for one of his projects. I wanted to keep things professional, so I made a point of referring to him as “Mr. Weinstein.” But he insisted that I call him by his first name. In this first encounter, I found him to be very direct and authoritative, but also charming. He didn’t quite put me at ease, but he didn’t alarm me, either.

Not long after we met in Berlin, Harvey wrote to me inviting me to attend a screening of a film — a competitor’s film similar to one he had produced. He said we would be watching it with his family at his home in Westport, Conn., which was not far away from New Haven, where I was living at the time. He would send a car to pick me up. I accepted the invitation.

The driver and I met Harvey in the little town of Westport, where he informed me that we would be having lunch at a restaurant before getting to his home. I did not think much of this. It was a busy restaurant, and as soon as we sat down he ordered a vodka and diet soda for himself. I asked for a juice. Harvey was unimpressed with my choice and told the waiter to bring me a vodka and diet soda instead. I declined and said I wanted the juice. We went back and forth until finally he turned to the waiter and said, “Get her what I tell you to get her. I’m the one paying the bill.” I smiled and remained silent. The waiter left and returned with a vodka and diet soda for me. He placed it on the table beside my water. I drank the water. Harvey told me that I needed to drink the vodka and diet soda. I informed him that I would not.

“Why not?” I remember him asking. “Because I don’t like vodka, and I don’t like diet soda, and I don’t like them together,” I said. “You are going to drink that,” he insisted. I smiled again and said that I wouldn’t. He gave up and called me stubborn. I said, “I know.” And the meal proceeded without much further ado. In this second encounter with Harvey, I found him to be pushy and idiosyncratic more than anything.

We got to his home after lunch and I met his domestic staff and his young children. He took me on a brief tour of the house before he rounded us all up in the screening room to watch the film. He had just produced a similar film of his own, but everyone was raving about this rival version.

I settled in for the film, but about 15 minutes in, Harvey came for me, saying he wanted to show me something. I protested that I wanted to finish the film first, but he insisted I go with him, laying down the law as though I too was one of his children. I did not want another back-and-forth in front of his kids, so I complied and left the room with him. I explained that I really wanted to see the film. He said we’d go back shortly.

Harvey led me into a bedroom — his bedroom — and announced that he wanted to give me a massage. I thought he was joking at first. He was not. For the first time since I met him, I felt unsafe. I panicked a little and thought quickly to offer to give him one instead: It would allow me to be in control physically, to know exactly where his hands were at all times.

Part of our drama school curriculum at Yale included body work, using massage techniques on one another to understand the connection between body, mind and emotion, and so I felt I could rationalize giving him one and keep a semblance of professionalism in spite of the bizarre circumstance. He agreed to this and lay on the bed. I began to massage his back to buy myself time to figure out how to extricate myself from this undesirable situation. Before long he said he wanted to take off his pants. I told him not to do that and informed him that it would make me extremely uncomfortable. He got up anyway to do so and I headed for the door, saying that I was not at all comfortable with that. “If we’re not going to watch the film, I really should head back to school,” I said.

I opened the door and stood by the frame. He put his shirt on and again mentioned how stubborn I was. I agreed with an easy laugh, trying to get myself out of the situation safely. I was after all on his premises, and the members of his household, the potential witnesses, were all (strategically, it seems to me now) in a soundproof room.

Earlier Harvey had sent the driver to the store to buy a boxed collection of “The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency,” an HBO show that he had produced. This was the project he thought I would be right for, he said. (I later found out that the show had not been on the air for some time.) As I prepared to leave his home, he presented it to me. He wanted me to check it out and let him know what I thought. He would be in touch about it. I left for New Haven with his driver.

I didn’t quite know how to process the massage incident. I reasoned that it had been inappropriate and uncalled-for, but not overtly sexual. I was entering into a business where the intimate is often professional and so the lines are blurred. I was in an educational program where I was giving massages to my classmates and colleagues every day. Though the incident with Harvey had made me uncomfortable, I was able to explain and justify it to myself, and shelve it as an awkward moment. His offer to me to be a part of the HBO show was a very attractive one and I was excited about it, especially as I would be graduating in another year. I didn’t know how to proceed without jeopardizing my future. But I knew I would not be accepting any more visits to private spaces with Harvey Weinstein.

I decided to invite Harvey to come to a production I was in at school. Perhaps that way he would really see what I had to offer, and he would see my colleagues, too. He accepted the invitation, but the night of the production, he sent a message saying he had been caught up in New York and would be unable to attend. He would make it up to me. So when I received an official invitation to a staged reading of his new Broadway show, “Finding Neverland,” I was not surprised. I was still debating whether I should accept his invitation, and so I responded saying I was not certain that I could make it because of my school schedule. He responded with exactly the words I needed to hear: Come with whomever you want to come with. And so I invited two of my trusted male friends.

We attended the reading, and afterward Harvey invited us all to a restaurant for dinner with his comrades and collaborators. He sat me next to him, and another actress sat across from me. He had my friends sit at a different table. The talk was shop the whole time and Harvey held court with ease. He was charming and funny once more, and I felt confused about the discomfort I had previously experienced. I looked at the actress who I was informed had just worked with him on a project, searching her face for any sort of indication that she too had been made to feel uncomfortable by this powerful man, but of course I saw nothing. We did not stay very long because we had to catch a train back to New Haven. My friends had been equally charmed by Harvey. He knew when to turn it on if he wanted something. He was definitely a bully, but he could be really charming, which was disarming and confusing. I left feeling that perhaps he had learned my boundaries and was going to respect them.

A couple of months later, I received an email from Harvey, inviting me again to New York for a screening of “W.E.” After the screening, we would have drinks in TriBeCa. I then received a phone call from one of his male assistants to arrange my transportation. Feeling more confident about the new sense of boundaries that we had established in our last meeting, I attended the screening on my own this time. Afterward, as planned, his male assistant arranged for me to get to the Tribeca Grill, where Harvey would be joining us. I met a female assistant when I arrived there. I was expecting that it would be a group of us, as it had been for the reading, but she informed me it would just be Mr. Weinstein. She would sit with me until he arrived. She seemed on edge, but I could only imagine how stressful it was to work for a man who had so much going on.

Harvey arrived and the assistant immediately disappeared. We ordered drinks and starters. Again he was offended by my nonalcoholic beverage choice but he didn’t fight me on it as hard. Before the starters arrived, he announced: “Let’s cut to the chase. I have a private room upstairs where we can have the rest of our meal.” I was stunned. I told him I preferred to eat in the restaurant. He told me not to be so naïve. If I wanted to be an actress, then I had to be willing to do this sort of thing. He said he had dated Famous Actress X and Y and look where that had gotten them.

I was silent for a while before I mustered up the courage to politely decline his offer. “You have no idea what you are passing up,” he said. “With all due respect, I would not be able to sleep at night if I did what you are asking, so I must pass,” I replied.

His whole demeanor changed at that point. “Then I guess we are two ships passing in the night.” I had never heard that saying before, so I remember asking him what it meant. “It means just that,” he said. “We are two ships going in two different directions.”

“Yes, I guess we are.”

“So we are done here,” he said. “You can leave.”

We got up, having not eaten anything, and he led me out of the restaurant. My heart was beating very fast. A cab was hailed for me. I said I would take the subway (I could not afford a cab at the time), but he handed me some money and told me not to be silly, take the cab. Before I got in, I needed to make sure that I had not awakened a beast that would go on to ruin my name and destroy my chances in the business even before I got there.

“I just want to know that we are good,” I said.

“I don’t know about your career, but you’ll be fine,” he said. It felt like both a threat and a reassurance at the same time; of what, I couldn’t be sure.

I did not see Harvey again until September 2013 when I was in Toronto for the premiere of “12 Years a Slave,” the first feature film I was in. At an after-party, he found me and evicted whoever was sitting next to me to sit beside me. He said he couldn’t believe how fast I had gotten to where I was, and that he had treated me so badly in the past. He was ashamed of his actions and he promised to respect me moving forward. I said thank you and left it at that. But I made a quiet promise to myself to never ever work with Harvey Weinstein.

Not long after I won the Academy Award in 2014, I received an offer to play a role in one of the Weinstein Company’s forthcoming films. I knew I would not do it simply because it was the Weinstein Company, but I did not feel comfortable telling this to anybody. I turned down the role, but Harvey would not take no for an answer. While at Cannes, he insisted on meeting with me in person. I agreed to do it only because my agent would be present. In the meeting, he was honest about intending to persuade me to do his movie. I told him I simply did not feel it was a role I needed to play. He said he was open to making it bigger, more significant, maybe they could add a love scene. He said if I did this one for him, he would do another one for me — basically guaranteeing backing a star-vehicle film for me. I ran out of ways of politely saying no and so did my agent. I was so exasperated by the end that I just kept quiet. Harvey finally accepted my position and expressed that he still wanted to work with me at some point. “Thank you, I hope so,” I lied.

And that was the last of my personal encounters with Harvey Weinstein. I share all of this now because I know now what I did not know then. I was part of a growing community of women who were secretly dealing with harassment by Harvey Weinstein. But I also did not know that there was a world in which anybody would care about my experience with him. You see, I was entering into a community that Harvey Weinstein had been in, and even shaped, long before I got there. He was one of the first people I met in the industry, and he told me, “This is the way it is.” And wherever I looked, everyone seemed to be bracing themselves and dealing with him, unchallenged. I did not know that things could change. I did not know that anybody wanted things to change. So my survival plan was to avoid Harvey and men like him at all costs, and I did not know that I had allies in this.

Fortunately for me, I have not dealt with any such incidents in the business since. And I think it is because all the projects I have been a part of have had women in positions of power, along with men who are feminists in their own right who have not abused their power. What I am most interested in now is combating the shame we go through that keeps us isolated and allows for harm to continue to be done. I wish I had known that there were women in the business I could have talked to. I wish I had known that there were ears to hear me. That justice could be served. There is clearly power in numbers. I thank the women who have spoken up and given me the strength to revisit this unfortunate moment in my past.

Our business is complicated because intimacy is part and parcel of our profession; as actors we are paid to do very intimate things in public. That’s why someone can have the audacity to invite you to their home or hotel and you show up. Precisely because of this we must stay vigilant and ensure that the professional intimacy is not abused. I hope we are in a pivotal moment where a sisterhood — and brotherhood of allies — is being formed in our industry. I hope we can form a community where a woman can speak up about abuse and not suffer another abuse by not being believed and instead being ridiculed. That’s why we don’t speak up — for fear of suffering twice, and for fear of being labeled and characterized by our moment of powerlessness. Though we may have endured powerlessness at the hands of Harvey Weinstein, by speaking up, speaking out and speaking together, we regain that power. And we hopefully ensure that this kind of rampant predatory behavior as an accepted feature of our industry dies here and now.

Now that we are speaking, let us never shut up about this kind of thing. I speak up to make certain that this is not the kind of misconduct that deserves a second chance. I speak up to contribute to the end of the conspiracy of silence.”

I’m so happy Lupita shared her story and I have so much more respect for her and commend her for sticking by her morals. It’s disgusting that Harvey would even try something with her while his kids were in the other room, what a sick bastard

foreign films 2.0

hi all! follow-up on THIS post.

this is another very long post giving you film and series suggestions in foreign languages - i have included my three target languages and french just to spice things up a bit.

if you’ve seen any of these or want to expand on the post please fell free to do so!! this list is obviously very subjective and contains things that i have seen and enjoyed, so i would love to see a greater variety of genres/directors featured on here.

SPANISH

wakolda - this is straight up one of my favourite films ever. 1950s argentina. a family accomodates a guest at their hotel, unaware that their guest is nazi monster josef mengele.

tiempo sin aire - colombian mum and son escape the horrors of civil war and move to the canary islands, but the mother will not rest until she has found her daughter’s rapist. contains some graphic scenes, not for the faint of heart.

la regenta - adaptation of 19th century classic, both film and miniseries (3 x 1.5 hrs) available on youtube. the film is mediocre but the miniseries stole my heart. pious wife anita torn between sexy local liberal and dark imposing priest. features an absolutely superb carmelo gomez as the cunning don fermin.

el crimen del padre amaro - another c19 classic, this time in a modern latin american setting where hot priest gael garcia b. can no longer fight his feelings for a certain young lady…

ocho apellidos vascos - SOOOOOOOO FUCKING FUNNY!!!!!

la piel que habito - almodóvar, banderas, weird, cringy, intriguing,  “a horror story without screams or frights” [wiki]

[wiki]

el secreto de sus ojos - “Using a nonlinear narrative, the film depicts a judiciary employee and a judge in 1974 … as they investigate a rape and murder case that turns into an obsession for all the people involved, while also following the characters 25 years later reminiscing over the case and unearthing the buried romance between them.”[wiki] RECOMMENDED

vacas - portrays the conflict between two basque families that lasts three generations, starting in 1875.

la princesa de francia - looks ery promising, centred around a group of actors preparing shakespeare’s “love’s labour’s lost”, in buenos aires. read review here

la dame aux camélias (1981) - isabelle huppert stars as the destitute and illiterate alphonsine who travels to paris and becomes a courtesan. based on alexandre dumas’ novel, of the same title.

Y'all know what I hate???

I hate how people particularly on this site scream and demand representation in action films and everything but when the movie comes out they don’t support it, in 2017 alone we have about 8 POC playing leads in superhero films and no one is trying to acknowledge it! Gal Gadot an Israeli-Jewish woman is playing Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa a biracial Hawaiian man is playing Aquaman, Ray Fisher a black man is playing Cyborg, RJ Cyler a black man played the first autistic superhero in the Power Rangers film that just came out this past Friday, Becky G a Latina woman played the first LGBTQ hero in the Power Rangers film, Ludi Lin played the first Asian superhero to ever hit the big screen, Naomi Scott played the first Indian superhero, Maisie Richardson-Sellers plays a live action Vixen, and there a plenty of others that can be added to this list ,but all those people yelling about wanting representation here are examples of a few and all of these people are leads in their respective films.. Y'all want POC leads here they are watch their films and support them! Show Hollywood that POC as leads can make money in the action and superhero genres as well! I don’t want to see another post complaining about representation until y'all have seen these movies first. Support these actors they have worked hard and deserve support!

10 Reasons I should play Isak in the US Skam Remake

1. Isak and I are virtually indistinguishable from one another. Never before have I so closely, intensely related to a fictional character.

2. I can rock a snapback

3. I wrote, co-directed, and starred in a short film that won the Atlantic Youth Film Festival and went on to be featured at the Toronto International Film Festival High School Festival

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjC3oncA6g8

4. REALLY want a blonde Isak? I’m game

5. I totally felt a Natural Connection™️ with Tarjei AND Henrik when I got to meet them

6. Trying to be straight™️? ME

7. I can cry. I mean, CRY cry. Ugly cry (but still look good)

8. Do you see that picture of me and my boy squad in front of a castle? Yeah. #boysquad

9. I’ve acted in almost a dozen plays, both through school and independently, as well as three short films, so I know what I’m doing, but am definitely an unknown.

10. Sitting on a bench? Sign me up

BONUS: I would do anything to play Isak Valtersen. Julie and Tarjei were able to expertly craft this phenomenal character that helped me grow as a person more than I ever thought a fictional character could. When I watch Skam, I see so much of myself in Isak. I took the exact same Gay Test as him. I laid awake for hours wondering if boys I liked, liked me back. I awkwardly came out to my friends when they heard it from other people first. I dated girls to prove to myself and people around me that I was straight. My first gay kiss was ripped right from a movie, only I was laying down like Sleeping Beauty and he got down on one knee and kissed me. I understand Isak because I am Isak. I’m the scared, lonely, angry closeted kid who makes other people guess who I like because it’s easier than telling them myself. I know US Skam won’t be able to replicate Julie and Tarjei’s Isak, because it never could. Nothing and nobody ever could. I don’t know if US Skam will be good; some remakes (The Office, Shameless) are amazing, others (Skins) are terrible. I hope US Skam is good, because I hope other people get to have characters they connect with the way I connect with Isak. I want to play Isak (or Isaac?) because I want to do for somewhat else what Tarjei did for me. I will always be grateful to him. I will never be able to thank him and Julie enough for Isak Valtersen.

If anybody important ever sees this and wants to give me a chance, I’ll be eternally grateful to you as well. :)

Okay, everyone was right. The scene where Bucky buys plums was just. The best.

And you could just see the old Bucky there, someone charismatic and sweet and charming. He’s not his past self again, for sure, but there’s a lot of him still there.

And I’d just love to see what his life was like before all the shit hit the fan. I want to know if he went after HYDRA at all, I want to know if he made any friends in Bucharest, if he knew anyone there. I want to see him writing in his notebook and learning to cope with his trauma, I want to see him trying new things while regaining old ones and just getting to decide who Bucky is.

Basically I want another two-hour film of Bucky’s post-HYDRA domestic life.

okay. so y’all complain about no diversity in shows, so let me throw in some details about sense8. it’s kind of a long post, so bear with me. but in this funny, fascinating, absolutely gorgeous show, you have:

  1. Nomi, a trans woman hacktivist in a healthy, loving relationship with Amanita, her black lesbian girlfriend that directly addresses trans erasure and bigotry in both the queer and straight communities while challenging the idea that you can’t be gay and trans, or have any sense of a happy relationship
  2. Lito, a gay Mexican man, renowned actor, and highly emotionally intelligent character that’s breaking the ridiculous hyper-masculine, unemotional, and chauvinistic stereotypes of latino men
  3. Capheus, a Kenyan man trying to get enough money to get medicine for his mom suffering from AIDS and literally the most compassionate and optimistic character I’ve ever seen, addressing the international issue of AIDS outside the realm of white gay cis-men and defying stereotypes of hyper-aggressive black men
  4. Kala, an Indian pharmacist and devout Hindu breaking the perception that you can’t be both scientific and religious, as well as the belief that you have to abandon your traditions and the importance of family to survive in a modern world
  5. Sun, a Korean businesswoman and absolute badass who can kick anybody’s ass and directly destroying the passiveness, submission, and domesticity attributed to east asian women

as 5/8 main characters who are minorities. Will, Riley, and Wolfgang are both white and cis, but definitely not fully straight after multiple telepathic transatlantic orgies that they all really enjoyed. Either way, 5/8 main characters (not to mention their attached side characters from their respective countries and cultures) is still a long ways from what we usually see of an all-white cast.

Basically, through Sense8 you get this show that goes and films in all these different locations and addresses all these different cultures and challenges so many stereotypes as to what kind of characters we see and are constrained by, all the while remaining interesting, hilarious, and visually stunning. Even if you don’t care about the story you have to admit that just the filming of this show is so absolutely gorgeous. Not to mention that they also film on site and hire local actors and crews from 7 different countries in the world.

Does this show have it’s problems? Yeah, yeah it does. Every show is going to be problematic in some form or another, but this is also the first show I’ve ever seen that has this much diversity in every step of the filming process, that represents so many people and I want this to succeed because it’s the first project that tries to do all this and if gets cancelled it’s unlikely we’ll ever see this sort of representation again.

So please, while you’re adding The Get Down, Dear White People, and Master of None to your Netflix watchlist (all of which I love and highly recommend), please just consider watching Sense8. Or just keep it playing in the background while you’re doing other stuff to get those views, if it’s not your kind of show. Please just let this show live, because honestly I don’t know when we’re gonna get a project like this again.

Pairing: Tom Holland x Reader

Warnings: major fluff

A/N: In honor of September 1st, 2017, also known as the day that Albus Potter first boards the Hogwarts Express, I wanted to write a small imagine. Just something sweet, short, and simple! This gif has nothing to do with the imagine but look how cute Tom is what the hell

tagged: @whormotional

I woke up before Tom did, as per usual, and got bored being the only one up in our apartment. I ate some breakfast, checked all my social media, and switched between the same three apps for two hours. Checking the time, I finally realized what day it was.

September 1st, 2017.

Oh. My. God.

My inner geek squealed, and I just felt like fangirling to my bestfriend. Problem is, my “bestfriend” is still asleep. Though, I couldn’t blame him. He was pretty jet-lagged from his trip when I picked him up from the air port yesterday. With his acting career taking off, he’s been everywhere lately. I’m glad he’s finally home though; I truly missed my boyfriend.

An idea popped into my head.

Oh he’s gunna love this.

I opened snapchat on my phone and decided to jump-scare him awake. I thought about how I would startle him awake as I walked back to our room down the hall. Just outside the partially closed door, I decided I would just jump onto the bed and land next to him.

Grinning mischievously, I hit record. It was the front-facing camera and I whispered, “Tom’s still sleeping, but I think it’s time to get up.” I slowly opened the door, and tip-toed to the bed where Tom was snoring away -completely oblivious to what was to come. It was hard to keep from laughing, so I bit my lip and smiled. Then, I pounced.

“TOMMY!” I screamed, jumping onto the bed, slightly landing on him in the process. He groaned in pain and mumbled something incoherent, turning his face towards me. After giggling a bit, I flipped the camera to film him instead.

“Mr. Holland! Thomas and friends! Tommy Turner!” I called to him obnoxiously. “Do you realize what day it is? The Hogwarts Express is gunna leave without us!” I whisper-yelled, shaking him with one hand.

I could see a smile forming on his lips, so I panned the camera to zoom in on his expression. I alternated between zooming in really close, to back out. “Mm, let it,” he mumbled. I gasped dramatically right as the video cut off.

“How dare you disrespect the world of magic like that,” I scolded. I posted the video to my story and decided to make another snap. Flipping the camera back to front-face, I hit record. “So, you heard it here first guys,” I said, getting Tom’s attention. “Tom hates Harry Potter, and the fact that he’s British just-”

Tom cut me off by swatting at the camera, breathlessly laughing, “Darling, don’t post that! They’ll come after me!”

“Let them!” I playfully teased, getting off the bed, still filming. “You hear that guys?” I laughed, “he doesn’t want you to see the real him!” I flipped the camera to film Tom, who was now sitting up on the bed looking at me with a playful glare. “This is the real you Tom! It’s time to show the world! I must expose you for the fake Brit that you are.”

I zoomed in on his face, and he tried to keep the glare, but failed when I whispered, “Repello muggletum.” He ended up laughing so I ended the video, quickly posted it, and put my phone away before joining him again on the bed. I wrapped my arms around his neck and gave him a peck on the cheek, “You said croissant wrong and they made a whole meme out of it, I’m sure this’ll be fine.”

He wrapped his arms around me and grumbled into my neck, “I don’t say it wrong.”

I pulled away, still in his arms, “Well quackson boy, it’s practically a holiday today, so we have to celebrate!” I tried to get up, but Tom held me in place.

“No, let’s just sleep and cuddle all day,” he protested, hugging me tighter.

“As tempting as that is,” I said, pulling away, “how about we marathon Harry Potter and cuddle on the couch? We’ll order in too so we don’t have to go outside.”

He grinned up at me and said, “I love you Y/N.”

I smiled and kissed his nose, “I know.”

SM is not appreciating Lay enough. Please repost.

I want more people to see this. Please repost. People need to see what Lay, Zhang Yixing, has done.

I was just watching EXO Monster music video, the Chinese version. A lot of people were saying Lay wasn’t getting enough lines in M versions and how it’s a Chinese song where the Chinese get two lines. Then you get comments like:

“Well everyone needs to remember that everyone has their designated roles in the group. Lay has improved greatly in terms of singing, and he is indeed better than he used to be, but he came to SM as a dancer. Just because he’s Chinese does not mean he has the right to all the lines.“

“Maybe Lay’s voice didn’t suit some lines within the song in comparison to the other members.“

“The problem is that he can’t sing as well as baek and kyungie.”

“…because LAY has too much personal activities…”

I don’t even want to continue.

People keep saying ‘Why do Chinese members keep leaving’ and how Chinese people always ‘leave for money’. Look, Lay is here staying in the group and not going for the money and supporting his brothers, he is keeping to his words ‘we are one’. Yes, it’s true that Lay has his own personal studio in China and is doing variety shows and dramas in China but he still has to give SM a big part of his income. Don’t know whether it’s 100% accurate but according to a website in China, half of Yixing’s personal studio staff was employed by SM and Yixing has to give 70% of his income to SM. Well, 30% of is income is actually a lot considering how well he’s doing in China but bare in mind Yixing is the one doing all the work and he has to give SM 70% of it.

Lay has make his way into the Chinese market and had gotten so popular recently starring in variety shows like Go Fighting and honestly, he can do so much better and so much more if he left the group and focus on his career in China but is he leaving? No. He’s not leaving. The reason why Chinese members keep leaving is because of this. This is a song in Mandarin and a Chinese members get two lines. TWO FUCKING LINES. Kris and Tao used to get one lines or two lines in songs and maybe not even have a proper line in K versions. If you search Kris voice on YouTube, someone made a compilation of his solo lines from MAMA to Overdose (M and K version included) you would find that he only had 8.33 minutes overall. And for Tao, he only got 4 minutes. There is a reason why members want to seek for more opportunities and want be able to do more. There are members like Sehun where all his lines were E-X-O (well he did have more lines in Love Me Right and recent songs).

How do you expect them to still stay when people like Kris who trained for 7 years, not knowing whether he’s going to debut and when he does, he get two lines in a song(except raps) and would always be placed at the back while performing live. He was originally supposed to debut after training for 3 years but the date got pushed back and SM told him, ‘Just wait another year.’ Another year became two years, three years, four years. He had became the foreign trainee who has trained for the longest time in SM. How do you expect him to still stay? I don’t even want to go into how Kris’s body conditions were and how he has serious problems with his body. See how well Kris doing in China and even starred in Hollywood films, would he be doing that if he stayed?

Back to Lay. I hate it when people say stuff like “Lay only focus on his career in China and doesn’t even do EXO stuff anymore.” Excuse me, how dare you say that. Yes, Yixing did spend a lot of time in China filming and doing variety shows but he’s trying so hard to keep up with both EXO and himself. Let me tell you Lay’s schedule and after this you wouldn’t dare say he doesn’t try.

This is his schedule for the past two months.

May

5th-Beijing to Gimpo

9th-Incheon to Shanghai

13th-Back to Korea

18th-Incheon to Beijing

19th-<To Be A Better Man> Conference

20th-Beijing to Seoul

23th-Incheon to Xiamen

25th-Xiamen to Shanghai

28th-Hongqiao to Seoul

June

5th-Seoul to Shanghai

6th-<Old Nine Gates> Conference

6th-Premiere of <To Be A Better Man>

7th-Back to Korea

8th-EXO comeback showcase

This was his schedule for the past two months. How dare you say that Yixing is not doing enough EXO stuff. Not a normal person can bear with the stress and tiredness flying almost every two days. Why do you think he keeps flying back to Korea? He could have stayed in China since he has so many conference to go to. It’s because EXO comeback has a lot of planning and practicing to do. If he has ‘given in to money’ like some people like to say, why do you think Yixing has given up his time for resting and flying back and forth China and Korea. If he has really ‘given in to money’ why shouldn’t he just leave? Why does he keeps mentioning EXO in China? At the end of interviews he would always tell people to not only support him but also EXO. He doesn’t need to do any of that. He really don’t. He could’ve just left and continue what he’s doing in China. But he keeps his promises. He promised to stay with the members, he promised to not leave, he promised to prove that Chinese people are trustworthy.

You can’t judge Yixing if you haven’t tied sandbags to your body to practice dancing for almost two years just because you think your dancing wasn’t going anywhere, it was to a point where he can’t even stand up because of the damages he has done to his waist. You can’t judge Yixing if you haven’t seen the amount of time he puts into making a ‘better Zhang Yixing’. You can’t judge Yixing if you haven’t had a cramping leg but still managed to finished a short interview and the whole Love Me Right choreography and immediately collapsed to the ground after the performance. These are all happening when people call him names like “attention seeking bitch”. He is still standing. He doesn’t deserve all this. He doesn’t even to work half as hard but chose to because he wants to prove to all those people who judged him, who attacks him, who call him names. If you haven’t gone through what Yixing has gone through, what gives you the right to judge him?

“Hope that I will be able to let the others see, everything of Zhang Yixing is good, only then I feel it’s really amazing. Let the others see he result, the process ins’t really that important.”-ZhangYixing

If you’re judging him or has judged him, think about whether you’ll be able to go through all this and still put on a smile for everyone.

Zhang Yixing is so hardworking and is such an amazing human being. SM need to change, and SM need to appreciate the effort Yixing is putting into EXO.

We’ve already lost three members, we couldn’t afford to lose more.

Humans are Space Orcs

So I was thinking about this and i just thought of the lengths humans go in the name of beauty: pulling hairs out, surgeries, botox, etc…

Can you imagine these aliens meeting humans and being shocked at how people hurt themselves?

Alien: Commander Alexa I- what are you doing!?

Human: Oh just waxing; I haven’t done it in weeks!

Alien: But you’re pulling out your hair? Surely that must hurt.

Human: You get used to it I guess…

Alien: But why are you removing parts of yourself?

Human: This is nothing compared to Debbie! Do you know she had breast implants put in 2 months ago? That whole surgery was quite the ordeal.

Alien: I am so confused… Do not worry Commander, I’ll get you and Navigator Debbie the help you need at once!

___________________________________________

Another idea was humans and horror films? Like aliens would think that humans are so barbaric to enjoy watching a film in which their own species dies.

Alien 1: I overheard the human engineers the other day, and I am most truely shocked; they watch these things called ‘horror films’? But the worst part is that in these films, the humans die!

Alien 2: Why would one ever want to watch such a barbaric thing? Those humans are truely dreadful!

Alien 1: I heard one talk about a film called Psycho, and another called Jaws-

Human: Did you say Jaws? Man I love that movie. Absolute classic. I mean that scene when that old grump gets bitten in half on his own boat? Gold!

Alien 2: Engineer Jim, if I may, why would you watch something like that?

Human: It’s the experience! The heart pumping, blood racing, tingles down your spine. Plus the murder parts are just great.

Alien 1: *whispers* see I told you these humans were insane! Why were they even allowed into the Intergalactic Union in the first place?!

BTS Reactions ||  You Visiting them in the Studio Wearing a Short Skirt ☽

Namjoon would be in the middle of writing a verse before being told he had visitor. Your visit with him would be brief, he’d be clenching his teeth together knowing you came to tease him on purpose in the middle of his work. ‘Do you have any idea how much trouble you’re in, princess?’ he’d whisper in your ear as you leave, saying bye to everyone. ‘You know how i want to see you when i get home. Don’t forget to leave the skirt on.’

After seeing you, all thoughts would leave him, immediately thinking about the things he’d wanna do to you when he got home.

Jin would be in the middle of his break, probaly filming another Eat Jin when you’d walk in. All his attention would go to you, eyeing you up and down, completely stunned at how beautiful you looked.

‘J-Jagi!’ he’d shout with his mouth full.

Suga would be completely done with recording. He’d see you and immediately want to deal with you for walking in there like that. He’d want to see you in different positions with that skirt. Most likely, he wouldn’t even take the time to greet you properly, rather he’d turn to the engineer and try to cut things short.

J-Hope would use his charms with the staff to cut himself a break from recording whilst bringing you with him. He’d leave the studio with promise to have you moaning in minutes. He would hold the door open for you before squeezing your ass over your skirt.

‘Come on baby, this won’t take long.’

Jimin would be in the booth as he saw you walk in. He’d be going in circles in his head on how he’s was going to keep his boner suppressed with you and  the staff around. He’d have no idea how to concentrate after seeing you like that.

‘Umm Jimin, that’s your part. You can start now.’ the engineer would have to constantly remind him to focus.

Taehyung would be eyeing you devilishly the whole time you were in the room. You knew he was going to punish you when you got home but you loved seeing how he tried to keep in control in front of the others. Staff and members would be talking to him about the song and he’d be only half listening to them, his attention always coming back to you. Giving certainty that he was going to ruin you when he finishe d work.

Jungkook would be shook. He’d look at you with admirination as you walked in. He loves your legs and hes always encouraged you to wear skirts. He’d spend the rest of his time looking at his watch, excited to leave and be with you.

Reasons Logan should replace The Dark Knight as the gold standard for superhero films
  • Hugh Jackman‘s final performance as Wolverine: Yes, Bale is really good so long as you get past the “WHERE ARE THEY?!“ voice, but Hugh is on a whole other level. This is his swan song and he gave it everything he has. It’s the best lead performance in any superhero film, as far as I’m concerned.
  • The feels: Remember how Rachel died in that film and the reaction from most of us was ‘oh shit, that happened‘. It was more shock than sadness, lbh. Meanwhile, this film packs so much emotional punch. And it’s the full range emotions as well. There are some surprisingly funny moments. But when it gets sad, it does not hold back.
  • It’s proud to be a comic book movie: While Nolan’s Batman films, TDK included, repress any hint of anything that would compromise his realistic version of Batman, Logan embraces the fact that it’s a comic book movie. A very different kind of comic book movie, but still a comic book movie. Complete with a kid killing grown men with claws, clones, and cyborg hands.
  • Dafne Keen as Laura Kinney aka X-23: Seriously, there is not a single film in existence that could not be improved by Laura Kinney.
  • Diversity: OK, the diversity in Logan is not, say, Moonlight levels. But of the three central characters, one is disabled physically and mentally, the other is Mexican. Plus, the story explores the themes of prejudice and racism that have always been a part of X-Men with mutants being referred to as ‘objects‘ and made to be ‘controlled.‘ The Dark Knight has one person of color. And he gets the least attention of the side characters. Everyone forgets that because Morgan Freeman can make five minutes feel as satisfying as a 30 minute scene.
  • A tightly put together story: I honestly can’t think of a single plot hole in Logan. Sure, the timeline was up in the air, but I was never questioning the characters decision making, or how the logistics of this post apocalyptic future worked. Meanwhile, the Dark Knight has a few plot holes. Like how did Bruce Wayne swim onto a plane from a boat filled with models without any of them saying anything to the news? How is Lau’s arrest even remotely legal? The Joker’s plan hinges a lot on coincidence and people acting and reacting exactly the way Joker wants. And the ending. Why did Batman have to take the blame? Blame the Joker. It is technically his fault, since he pushed Harvey over the edge. And if he says ‘Harvey did it‘, who the hell’s going to believe him?

There’s other little stuff as well. The action scenes are better overall, it never feels too long, it looks better. But most importantly, Logan was a step forward. The Dark Knight was a step forward as well, don’t get me wrong. But it came out 9 years ago. The superhero genre has made leaps and bounds in the time since then. And I want to see a sign that we’re moving forward with the genre, and not clinging to 2008.

It doesn’t even have to be Logan that gets to be the new benchmark of the genre. It could be another film that made a similar or larger impact on the genre (The Avengers, X-Men, Spider-Man, Superman) or a film that’s just as good as The Dark Knight if not better. (Winter Soldier, Civil War, First Class, Days of Future Past, Spider-Man 2). Hell, I’ll take Deadpool or a DCEU movie. Just some indication that we’ve moved on from a film that’s actual impact has overshadowed the film itself.

I am by no means saying that Dark Knight is anything below great. But it’s been 9 years. We’ve had several other great superhero films since then. Some even better than The Dark Knight. Can we please just move on? Nolan has. The actors have. The genre has. DC… is getting there. Why can’t we?

We finally have a movie that seems destined to be the new gold standard for the rest of the genre. Let’s take this as an opportunity to move on and let the genre step out of the shadows of the Dark Knight.

Why you should see wonder woman

FULL OF SPOILERS !!!!!!  (and swears)

I did not at first realise what an emotional experience this film would be, but FUCK ME on watching the first few scenes I felt the tears spring forth like fucking fountains of glory.

It was seeing all those strong women on screen, those incredible women, unsexualised and with agency of their own, that completely undid me and I didn’t stop weeping until the film was over.

So here is a list of 15 reasons why Wonder Woman was the best damn film of this year:

  1. The Amazons will have you wanting to take on the patriarchy with a bow and arrow in 10 seconds flat. A society of women, who love and support one another. A mother-daughter relationship unspoilt by ‘female jealousy’. LESBIAN ISLAND (also I am gay for every single Amazon ever.)
  2. The soundtrack will take you from 0 to I-wanna-punch-a-nazi really quickly.
  3. I’m not really one for heterosexual white guys in films, but Steve Trevor is a good and brave soul and never, not once, does he treat Diana as his inferior. From the moment she rescues him from the sea he treats her as an equal and respects her and supports her. AND THIS IS WHY SHE LOVES HIM.
  4. Diana listens to no man. Not even the man she is romantically involved with. When he tells her not to get involved, out of his fear she will be hurt, she fucking gets involved anyway. In fact, the whole film can be boiled down to Steve going; ‘Stay here.’ and Diana going; ‘Fuck that.’
  5. Wonder Woman is canonically bisexual.
  6. It might be because I’m a slut for history but Diana calling out WWI generals on their old world Victorian values made my Fucking Day. ‘A real general fights alongside their soldiers.’  Queen of my heart.
  7. Diana asking why women would want to hold their tummies in. We don’t Diana thank you for asking, bc tummies are beautiful.
  8. Everyone telling Diana she can’t save everyone, to which she responds, ‘Watch me.’
  9. Steve saying, ‘It’s no man’s land, no man can cross it.’  and Diana, the fucking icon that is, going ‘I am no man.’ (it’s in subtext) And the costume!?? Fuck me. No seriously, fuck me.
  10. There is a Moroccan and a Native American character, the Moroccan character highlights racial issues that stop him reaching his dreams and the Native American character calls out white Americans on their genocide of his people. (having diversity in a film set in 1918 just sticks a big ol’ middle finger up to any film who has said ‘diversity isn’t historically accurate’)
  11. There is also a character with an invisible disability; Charlie has, one presumes, PTSD and not only does this highlight and give representation to people with mental illness, but the other male characters genuinely care for his emotional wellbeing. Men emotionally supporting other men! Men showing their emotions!! Men caring for one another tenderly!!!!
  12. None of these characters die. Only the het white guy dies, in a nice twist on the ‘female love interest dies to give het white male lead Angst’ trope.
  13. Humans aren’t good, we don’t deserve Diana (damn right we don’t) but we have goodness in us and it’s a choice!!
  14. ‘I believe in Love.’
  15. War is a white old guy, and Diana destroys him. The overwhelming message of this movie is peace and love and in this shitshow we call the modern world, we need more movies with this message.

OH WAIT I FORGOT ONE!!! ‘Men are unnecessary for pleasure.’  !!!!!!!

i was scrolling through tumblr and i came across a post analysing dan’s phanfic ‘The Urge’ (i reblogged the post, go to akinatorphan.tumblr.com/tagged/the+urge or just search 'the urge’ if you’re on mobile, i HIGHLY recommend, it showed me a whole other, deeper side of the fic). the first time i heard it i was amazed by dan’s poetic descriptions and just how much effort he put into that story. 'The Urge’ is basically dan’s biggest fear - phil dying. but he captured everything so well and each and every word just fits. (go read the analysis for many more secret gems)

i believe dan is a type of person who likes to hold on to memories. after all, he is the one who suggested both tabinof and tatinof so that dan and phil can provide us, their audience, some proof, evidence or just a physical thing to hold on to if the internet highly fucks up and somehow deletes youtube or whatever. but i feel like it means a lot to dan as well when we’re talking about memories. it proves to him that what he and phil have created is real. personally, if i was in dan’s shoes i would want something to remember their whole little world by as well.

dan has a way with words. he speaks very eloquently and that is something we have experienced many times in his liveshows. (but at the same time he is the guy who burned pasta in university cause he didn’t know he had to put water, bought bird food for a snack and many more mishaps, he amazes me tbh). i wouldn’t be suprised at all if he has journals and notebooks and notes that are filled with his thoughts, goals and ideas. he seems to be the type of person that loves expressing themselves and does that because it’s therapeutic, and what’s better than writing everything down and letting your words swim on paper? (this is just one more dan thing that i can relate to. i love writing. i have been keeping a diary/journal/whatever for years now and i just started another one. i rant on paper and write letters i’ll never send. i try to capture my memories - why? for the same reason. i want to make sure it’s real and i don’t somehow forget it.)

(if it wasn’t obvious by now) i love dan. he really inspires me in a ton of ways and hearing his thoughts and opinions are my favourite parts of his liveshows (not to mention his voice is very soothing). that’s why i would love to hear more.

just imagine it - a whole proper book. a novel written by him. i’d praise the shit out of that on my bookshelf. i just believe it would be so interesting to see a whole another world stitched by dan. characters, plot, dilemmas, scenery (with his descriptive writing skills? sign me up) and so much more. it doesn’t even have to be a fiction book. i’d just love to read more of his general opinions.

we don’t really have much insight into dan’s (or phil’s) aspirations outside of youtube. does dan want to write? does phil want to make his own film? who knows? all i’m wondering is if dan ever thought about writing a book of his own. i’m really curious about that.

time to boycott it all over again, I guess.

it’s gonna be called Glass and is called a “comic book thriller” and will come out in 2019 (January 2019).

here’s another post we made about it.

that has been updated along with this post, as of may 1st, 2017

update: the script is finished (link to the actual tweet), and actors, producers, and a distributor have been confirmed.

based on the time at which the last movie was filmed (a year and half before it came out, it’s safe to say that filming for Glass has probably already started or will be starting very soon.

please try to encourage people who might want to see it to boycott it. I doubt it will be better representation.

7 Thoughts about Power Rangers

On August 28, 1993, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers premiered on Fox Kids. I was eight years old and whether or not I was the intended demographic for the show, I was instantly hooked. It all started with five teenagers with attitudes summoned by Zordon to defend the world against evil forces led by intergalactic baddie Rita Repulsa. Jason Lee Scott (Austin St. John), Kimberly Ann Hart (Amy Jo Johnson), William “Billy” Cranston (David Yost), Trini Kwan (Thuy Trang) and Zack Taylor (Walter Jones) called on the power of the ancient dinosaurs and became a team of superheroes called the Power Rangers and the world was never the same.

Nearly twenty-five years later, those of us who became acquainted with the Power Rangers discovered there would be a reboot of the franchise in the form of a gritty re-imagining of the original team. While initially thrilled about the idea of seeing my childhood superheroes on the big screen, a part of me wondered just how loyal this new film would be to the original source material. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was a totally kick-ass TV show but even the most die-hard fan has to admit there were some problematic elements in regards to the original series, many I will address later on in this recap.

On March 31, 2017 a couple of friends and I went to our local theater and saw the new film, Power Rangers. One of my friends admitted he was not even born when the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers first debuted and my other friend announced he would have been too old to watch such a show despite only being four/five older years than me. I expected them both to hate it and even braced myself for disappointment of epic proportions. The three of us exited the theater two and a half hours later each raving about how amazing the film was. Below, I will list seven thoughts I have in regards to the film. For those who have not seen the Power Rangers, there will be spoilers in this post. You have been warned…

  1. In the original series, Zack, Trini, Billy, Kimberly and Jason all knew each other and were the best of friends before becoming the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. In the latest film, our heroes know of each other before discovering Zordon (voiced by Bryan Cranston) but they are certainly not friends. Jason (Dacre Montgomery) is a football star before he winds up in detention (and with an ankle bracelet) after a brush with the law. It is in detention where he meets Billy (RJ Cyler) and Kimberly (Naomi Scott). Trini (Becky G) is a recent transplant in Angel Grove and Zack (Ludi Lin) is a loner who rarely attends class. Instead of Jason being the rallying force behind the five teens coming together, it’s actually Billy who is responsible for the event that eventually leads them to each other…and the power coins.
  2. These ain’t your older brother and sister’s Power Rangers. Our heroes have been re-imagined as more of a modern day Breakfast Club. Jason is a star athlete who loses everything after a prank gone awry. Jason is prone to fits of anger which often-times leaves him incapable of leading the team. However, underneath all of the muscle and bravado there’s a good guy there will a strong moral core who feels the weight of fear, a fear of disappointing those he cares about, most importantly his father (David Denman). Our dear Kimberly, like Jason, used to be one of the popular kids until a sexting scandal rendered her an outcast at Angel Grove High. Billy is a bullied autistic teen who spends a lot of time at the rock quarry because it reminds him of his dad. Trini, the new girl, wrestles with the fact she is not normal like her parents and her two brothers. Zack is trying to deal with the fact that his mother is sick and could possibly die. Instead of our rangers having that established relationship with each other, we get to see them get to know one another before tapping into the power that will ultimately transform them into the Power Rangers.
  3. One of the things my friends and I would joke about in regards to the TV show was how Jason, Trini, Billy, Zack and Kimberly always were together wearing clothing the same color as their respective ranger identities. Anyone with eyes and a shred of common sense in Angel Grove could have put two and two together and figured out these five were the Power Rangers. The movies pays homage to this concept by having each of the rangers wear a pop of color corresponding to their ranger’s color. It’s both effective and subtle.
  4. Morphing is like totally hard, you know? The five of them discover the hidden power coins in the rock quarry and develop superhuman abilities almost immediately. Summoning the armor they will ultimately don in their battle against Rita Repulsa and Goldar takes a lot of time and even after a lengthy training montage (WE NEED A MONTAGE!!!!) our teenagers with attitudes are still not successful in becoming the rangers. I actually like this idea of them not being able to become rangers right away because it forces our characters to learn one another. A team is only effective when it accesses the strengths and weaknesses of it’s individual members. It is only after they are able to truly bond with each other they are able to tap into the power that morphs them into Power Rangers.
  5. Rita Repulsa is freaking terrifying. So yeah, the original Rita Repulsa was a total bad-ass but I never really found her particularly scary. The film’s version of Rita Repulsa (Elizabeth Banks) is wicked and not above murdering any and everyone who gets in her way. Rita even goes as far as to kill one of the rangers. No joke. Another added detail I quite enjoyed about the character was how she was the original Green Ranger who served alongside Zordon, the original Red Ranger. This also makes me wonder, when they debut the Green Ranger in the sequel (of course there will be a sequel) will it be Tommy Oliver…or Tommie Oliver?
  6. The Zords were awesome. I enjoyed the sleek look of the design and their free range of movements. In the TV show, most of the Zords were reminiscent of actual tanks and were big and blocky and a bit cumbersome. One of my favorite moments in the film was the creation of the Megazord and how each Power Ranger controlled a particular part of the machine, i.e. the legs, arms, etc. It really took some coordination between all five rangers in order for them to control Megazord.
  7. The last thing I want to address in regard to the Power Rangers film is how cool it was to see a black nerd character on the big screen. Growing up, I always resonated with the character of Billy because my favorite color was blue and Billy was very intelligent and he wore glasses. Billy was this nerd character who was accepted by those we would call popular. As the resident science geek, Billy also plays a vital role to the team. Another thing I thought was pretty cool was Billy being autistic in the film. I was talking to a coworker of mine yesterday and we were talking about the importance of having visibility in regards to autism in TV and film. Her son is autistic and how coll is it he has someone like him on the big screen as a superhero. Another thing I would also like to point out is the importance of having a LGBT character in the film. Trini is not only the new girl but she also likes girls and because of her sexuality she feels somewhat detached from her family. I also detected a bit of something brewing between Trini and Kimberly. Then again maybe it was all in my head. However, I was so glad they did not play out any kind of romance between any of the rangers in this film. I know there were talks about Kimberly and Jason possibly being romantically-involved in the film which would be a great departure from canon but first and foremost Power Rangers has always been the story of a group of friends coming together to save the world. I would be interested to see if future films do further address Trini’s sexuality because how great would it be to see a young woman fully embracing her sexuality and being a total bad-ass in the process. I know there will be a part of the fandom who will wonder why there needed to be an autistic ranger or a lesbian ranger. Some will even ask, why did they have to make Billy black? These are the same people who flip out whenever there is a character introduced on Sesame Street who has two dads or two moms or a parent that’s incarcerated. Representation is so important because in order to eradicate homophobia and racism and bigotry in our society, we have to acknowledge these people exist! So thank you Power Rangers for going there.

I am thirty-two years old and I have never felt more like that eight year old sitting on the floor of my living room watching Mighty Morphin Power Rangers than I did last night sitting in that movie theater. I recommend Power Rangers to all of you who share the same memories as I do in regards to the TV show. Even if you were never a fan of the show, the story is amazing, the acting was great and it was packed with action. My friends and I definitely had a great time and this is a film I would definitely consider seeing again in theaters and also purchasing once it comes out on DVD. If you have any thoughts or comments in regards to my thoughts, fill free to comment. GO-GO-POWER RANGERS!

What the force wants (the Force’s prophecy.) *TLJ Speculation*

Warning: these are just speculations. I’m going off of canon logic. I’m going to also state evidence to why this speculation may be a possibility. Thank you for reading. *may contain possible spoilers*

In the teaser trailer, we are given a shot of Luke Skywalker with his hand on a book in the Force Tree.

The symbol above is the symbol for The Grey Jedi Code. This is what the grey Jedi code states:

Basically, Grey Jedi’s wield both sides of the force. The dark and the light. Notice how the Grey Jedi code’s goal is “balance”. We all know that the forces goal throughout the Star Wars films that it wants to be balanced. This possibly may be the goal of the Force in TLJ.

In The Last Jedi Teaser Trailer, Luke asks Rey (presumably): “what do you see…” Rey replies, “Light….Darkness….the balance.” Another interesting quote said by Luke was, “I only know one truth…it is time for the Jedi to end.” This can hint towards the Grey Jedi being the only way to bring balance to the force.

Now let’s move onto our main protagonists: Kylo Ren & Rey.

We all know that Kylo Ren is considered a Dark Force user and Rey is considered a Light force user. However, Both protagonists feel pulls to the opposite sides. (Rey felt a pull to the dark & Kylo Ren feels a pull to the light.)

*Also, Star Wars Databank has pointed out that their destinies were intertwined. (Most likely by the force). Both Kylo Ren & Rey’s meeting is inevitable. They are destined to meet and be in each other’s future, regardless where they stand. But we will get to that later*

Purhaps these two protagonists could possibly bring out both sides in each other. Resulting in both wielding the Light & Dark sides of the Force. *hint hint to That Scene™*

Now going back to “Intertwined destinies”: Kylo Ren and Rey may have the same “raw/special power.” We know this because Luke has seen this same power before only once, (most likely when training Ben Solo). Luke seems afraid of this power for may be this power that is so great, has been prophesied. This is what the book in the force tree could claim:

Two force users both equivalent to each other, both Dark & Light, will come together as one to bring the Dark & Light out of one another. Thus fulfilling the Grey Jedi code.

*I also want to point out that “coming together as one”: usually, when I think of “two people coming together as one” I think of marriage. For instance the Bible states numerous of times that when two people marry, they are no longer two, they are bound together by soul and they are equal one.*

Anyways, this could lead up to: That Scene™

“I need someone…to show me my place in all of this.”

*is smitten af but knows what he is doing because he sensed his fate/Destiny is intertwined with her’s. He also really wants to be there for her cause the many sorts of “feelings.”*

That Scene™ *I’m still screaming over this btw. I may or may have not cried while typing this portion of this speculation*

Anyhow… I won’t be talking about when ‘This Scene’™ will take place in the film. I will be discussing the point of ‘This Scene’™ and what it means ‘prophecy’ wise and what it means for both of the protagonists. Rey is obviously very confused on what her place is in all of “this”. By “this” she means multiple things. My inference is that Kylo Ren is going to be the one that will not only be there for her emotionally and try to help her get through her pain but also help her force wise(maybe resulting in running away together). The hand gesture is only the beginning folks! This hints that the Grey Jedi will most likely be fulfilled.

John Boyega also stated that, “I think what’s fantastic is it feels like it’s coming back full circle…. but definitely I feel this is the war to end all wars in this movie. I’m interested to know how he will handle that.” - John Boyega for comingsoon.net

Conclusion: “the war to end all wars” = the fulfillment of the Grey Jedi Code (the balance of the force) Rey & Kylo Ren fulfilling each other’s destiny with each other; becoming equals(becoming each other’s equal).
