I think the most valuable coping skills that I’ve learned in the past year are as follows: talk about your pain and stress, write down your feelings, and pray about it.

Someone else has been through what you’re going through, and has had a similar emotional experience. You don’t have to be alone in the struggle.

You don’t have to carry the burden of your negative emotions and your hurt. Write about it, and release it. That won’t make it go away, but you’ll feel some relief. You’ll have a better understanding of what you’re feeling, the role that fear plays in it, and why you’re feeling those emotions.

Pray for peace, for patience. Pray that you are able to open your heart up to be a vessel of God’s grace, mercy, and love. Pray that you are willing and able to see Christ’s presence in others, because once you see that everybody has God within them, peace and patience will come along. Pray for the hearts of others—they’re hurting, and they might not know that God loves them and wants them to love themselves.
