Annie Chang (US, b. 1989) Sloth, 2014. Oil paint, plaster, gauze, and string on panel. 48” x 76”. Courtesy of the Artist.
“This mixed media painting is part of a series created by Annie Chang to address the Seven Deadly Sins: Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy, and Pride. Sloth was made to show the deterioration of a human struggling with drug abuse. The heaviness of the body, its collapsed position, and peeling skin show a person working through the issues of addiction. The artist states that it is an ex love letter to heroin.” -Sebastian Castle, Guest Curator at MOLAA
This piece is part of the Artful Healing exhibit in MOLAA’s Port to Learning Gallery (On Display through May 29, 2016).
