Take creators stepping in and dismissing fan theories and interpretations of their works with a grain of salt. This is a lesson I learned early, from Anne “my vampires aren’t gay and also I might sue you” Rice.
During the peak of my Vampire Chronicles love, I – at that time, a very petty fifteen-year-old – set out to underline every single really queer moment in the whole series. Spite aside, I quickly realized that in a series where the protagonist runs away to Paris with clearly his violinist boyfriend, and convinces his next super angsty obviously boyfriend to MAKE A VAMPIRE CHILD WITH HIM to keep said angsty boyfriend from leaving, this was easier said than done.
I mean, she’s not fully wrong – Lestat’s not gay, he’s very bisexual. Louis and Nicki are both hella gay, though.
Anyway, I’ve meandered. The point is – creators can say wildly inaccurate things about their works sometimes. Anne Rice went Christian and didn’t want her books to be SUPER FUCKING QUEER anymore. Creators’ views on what they’ve made can change over the years. You never fucking know.
Ah. That’s where the beginning of the end begun, kids.
Anne, please stop doing that.
ok, edit added later (of the 22/09/17, today): guys, don’t insult her when you reblog this post. Yes, this is a very bad decision. Ok? But this doesen’t mean that she is a bad person. A tumblr user in one of the many reblogs said that Anne commented this post saying that now she wants the help of an editor. Even though I’ve checked the comment section of this fb post without finding this famous Anne’s comment, I want to believe that now she is working with an editor and I want to have faith in this. The point of this post was my will to express the disappointment towards Anne’s decision because this was the reason why this beautiful series got a lot of mistakes in the latest books. Stop. No bullying. I would feel very bad if she starts to feel miserable reading us. And yes, I know that her behavior towards the fandom (in the past) wasn’t good, but when I post something positive or negative that she has done, I want costructive criticism or a not-insulting sentence.
(If my english is bad, I’m sorry. I’m not a native speaker)
How can people link Vampires™ to Twilight when Anne Rice literally created the vampire version of the kardashians before the kardashians even existed.
Like we have the ambiguous 17 yrs old lookin who’s in love with an alcholist with purple eyes, two gay drama queens in love (but that constantly try to kill each other) who adopt a little girl out of nowhere and other vague family members that we’re going to name The Straights™ who don’t really like the youngest and gayest of the gang. Also let’s not forget that everyone hates Drama Queen #1 Lestat but they all listen to his music and even buy his book.
“Her blood coursed through my veins, sweeter than life itself. And as it did, Lestat’s words made sense to me. I knew peace only when I killed and when I heard her heart in that terrible rhythm, I knew again what peace could be.”
