Execs met with the duo many times before the studio decided to go with them and the pair impressed the studio time and time again with their vision for the heroine. The two have experience in both the TV and film world, which Marvel sees as a strength.

5 bullets on this film:
I think this movie deals with the topic of mental illness very well, without being too heavy, but in a sensitive way. It’s deep and it makes you think a lot, but there are some funny scenes as well. If you ever feel sad, watch this, it’ll make you feel better.
Zach Galifianakis and Emma Roberts are great, they really got into their roles. I loved how all the characters were well-developed and how each one of them represented different mental illnesses.
The musical interludes basically made the entire movie.
The setting is basically the same during the whole movie: a psychiatric hospital. However, the colors and the nice cinematography make everything seem cute and not-boring.
When I was around 14 I used to get really sad sometimes, so I watched this film and it really helped me. I also read the novel written by Ned Vizzini, which was based on his own life. I recently found out that he commited suicide in 2013 and I am devastated. When you feel sad, please don’t do anything stupid.
Gina Prince-Bythewood, who wrote and directed The Secret Life of Bees, will direct Silver and Black, Sony’s Spider-Man offshoot that centers on characters Silver Sable and the Black Cat.
Silver Sable, created by Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz in 1985, is a mercenary who runs a company that hunts war criminals. The character has been both antagonist and ally to Spider-Man.
Black Cat, an acrobatic cat burglar whose real name is Felicia Hardy, has a long and tangled romantic history with Spider-Man in the comics. The character was cut from scripts for the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy, and a “Felicia Hardy” (played by Felicity Jones) briefly appeared in Amazing Spider-Man 2, though no Black Cat connection was ever made explicit.
Note: This deal will make Prince-Bythewood the first black woman to direct a superhero movie, the second woman of colour (following Lexi Alexander) and the 4th woman overall to direct a live-action superhero feature film following Lexi Alexander, Patty Jenkins and Anna Boden (co-directing with Ryan Fleck).
The movie will star Oscar winner Brie Larson in the titular role, be written by Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Meg LeFauve (Inside Out), be directed by established directing duo Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Half Nelson), and be produced by Victoria Alonso (The Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant-man). The movie is confirmed to start filming in January!
Marvel have announced that directing duo Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck will co-direct the upcoming ‘Captain Marvel’ movie. The duo are know for writing and/or co-directing the movies ‘Mississippi Grind’, ‘Half Nelson’, and ‘Sugar’ together!
“But the difference between today and last Saturday is that for the first time in a while, I can look forward to the things I want to do in my life. Bike, eat, drink, talk. Ride the subway, read, read maps. Make maps, make art.”
