Director and Producer interview for Free-Timeless Medley-
In 2013 Free aired on TV
In 2014 Free! Eternal Summer aired on TV
and then in 2015 the movie High Speed! -Free! Starting Days- opened in theaters.
In order to tie these three works together, we are making reconstruction films to put them in chronological order.
The movie ‘Free!-Timeless Medley- Bonds’ will be from the Iwatobi members perspective and
The movie ‘Free!-Timeless Medley- Promise’ will be from the Samezuka member’s perspective. Then, the movie Free!-Take Your Marks- is them proceeding onto the next stage all together.
To show the sparkle of their youth, show their irreplaceable time with friends, and to show them taking off straight from the past to the future, the purpose of this project is tie everything together through these 3 works.
Please watch as they take off from the Iwatobi City stage, to the stage known as the world.
Producer Hata Shinichiro
The Free! series started being aired four years ago. I have been involved with this series since then and ran through their youthful days together. Now, when I think back on it, they are still brightly sparkling irreplaceable memories. We are to remake that “Free!” now, in 2017.
Why do we need Free! now?
Why is this work important today?
Recently there have been a lot of incidents that have made it hard to see the future. We live in a world where you don’t know what to believe in. And in this world, there are young boys and girls who don’t know their own feelings and don’t have self-confidence.
I want to show those boys and girls Haruka and Rin —who face the things they like, believe in, and think are important, and then they work as hard as they can, growing every day. Who, even when they run into troubles, still continue forward with strong feelings— and I want them to feel something. I want them to find what they live for, and what they find important, and maybe just gain some aspirations and self-confidence. I want everyone who sees it to be moved at least a little bit.
It is with that in mind that we are literally “rebooting” this Free! series.
We the creators have grown with them, and they have been running through our minds. I hope that their dreams, growth, and their beautiful bodies come rushing out of the screen in order to cheer people up.
What lies in the future, what’s waiting? Please wait for the complete picture. I’m sure you’ll find the answer.
