animation model

anonymous asked:

that spongebob screencap post reminded me, why do you ppl still use the argument "su is harshly criticized for off model designing but the animation blurs and off model designs in spongebob or other cartoons are praised!!" when its like shit sorry i didnt realize su was an over the top comedy and not a heart clenching drama i'm supposed to take seriously most of the time nvm

style has to somewhat match the narrative

off modelness matches with surreal comedies like ren and stimpy and spongebob (although they both maintain consistent heights and spongebob is relatively on model all the time) but with a show going for realism and “adult” themes like steven universe it doesn’t really work

This was what I was working on all semester! I’m pretty happy with how it turned out and I hope that maybe it can help some other artists.

I’m by no means an expert, just a student wanting to share my work with others. :)

This is my first serious animation.
There are some mistakes, but i hope you’ll enjoy it.

Models, materials, lighting, simulations, final rendering, etc by me.

(I used ZBrush for Toothless’s scales, Bledner 3d and Cycles render for modelling and rendering it, SpeedTree for big trees, XNormal for baking textures and Photoshop for texturing)

Jean Blanchard’s Bugs Bunny model sheet for the McKimson Unit, 1947. Bob McKimson had drawn the definitive Bugs model in 1943 and then Blanchard designed this strikingly different version of the character a few years later. The range of expressions and attitudes shown here in her model sheet only begin to suggest the unbelievable range of animated “acting” achieved in Bob’s cartoons throughout the 1940s and how the great characters like Bugs developed different nuances as the decade progressed. McKimson was a great, underrated animator.
