“When you partner with a spirit ally, you become a partner in guardianship of the medicine. You become a gateway to bring that medicine into the Middle World for your people. Your shamanic power is quantified by the medicine of your allies. Those who carry Crow medicine heal somewhat differently than those who hold Badger medicine. The stronger and more balanced your spirit partnerships, the better you will be able to administer this otherworldly medicine.”

Spirit Guide Spread

I developed this spread first for my own use, in an effort to let me communicate with my spirit guide when I was not able to find the peace I needed for proper meditation, and could not reach them through dream. This deck can be used to communicate with your spirit guide (or animal familiar), or to try and meet them for the first time.

1. The Head. This card represents your Spirit Guide. If you have not met them, it can hold insight into what form they might appear to you.

2. The Hand. What they hold highly. This card represents qualities or attributes your spirit guide consider of great importance at this time.

3. The Fist. What they disregard. This card represents an issue you may be paying too much mind to, or something your spirit guide wants you to ignore.

4. The Heart. What is inside you. A hidden strength your spirit guide applauds, and wants you to focus on fostering at this time. If reversed this can indicate a festering issue your spirit guide is concerned may be harming you.

5. The Heels. A last word. This card represents any last pressing messages or warnings your spirit guide may have for you.

I hope this spread assists those of you who, like me, struggle in forming spirit connections in a busy, mundane, world. If you try this spread and like it, please consider liking this post, as a vote for the #Craftaspread challenge.

How to find your Totem Animal

Everyone has an animal, bird or fish which holds a special meaning for them. This is not necessarily a pet or even a domestic animal; it could be foreign or even mythical

1. Take a walk in the woods just before dusk. Take the time to look at the trees and plants, to inhale the scent of the woods and listen to the sounds around you.

2. Find an old tree and sit down beneath it. Close your eyes and lay your hands flat on the soil on either side of you and take a few deep breaths.

3. Ask the Goddess to send you your Totem animal.

4. Open your eyes and pick up the first thing you see lying on the ground near you. Take this home and place it under your pillow for three nights and your Totem animal will come to you in your dreams.

5. When you know what your Totem animal is, remember to look out for it in the world around you and to acknowledge this gift of the Goddess each time you see it

Leslie Knope’s an unapologetically smart woman. She’s loud, but not shrill, which I think was a rare version of a female character when the show started. I’ve seen some women online refer to Leslie as their ‘spirit animal’ or 'guide,’ and I think they use her in a 'What would Jesus do?’ way.

“When an animal shows up in an uncommon way or repetitively, that animal isn’t just the single animal, but is representing the spirit of the entire species. For example, the hummingbird that flits about and then hovers for several seconds directly in front of you isn’t just a hummingbird, but is carrying with her the essence of all hummingbirds, and is therefore Hummingbird with a capital “H.” That’s also why when we speak of an animal spirit guide, we leave out the “a” or “an” as a way of recognizing and honoring that spirit animal. […]

Not only do these spirit animals help us in many ways, but another positive effect is that you’ll deepen your appreciation for the magic and mystery of all animals, whether they’re of the air, water, or land. Every being on this beautiful and majestic planet has its place in the web of life, and as you develop your consciousness and awareness of the unique quality of animal spirit guides, you’ll enhance your relationships with all of our animal brothers and sisters.

When an animal or a symbol of that animal shows up to you in an unusual way or repeatedly (at least three times in a short period of time), it’s most definitely trying to convey a message from the spirit world to you.”

Crystals for Wolf Totem

Within the forest of pine and elder oaks the wolves of snow walk across the crumbling leaves, their white auras puncturing the shadows with haunting light. Their paws imprinting into the mossy earth, as if leaving secret messages upon the forest floor. Eyes of gold hold ancient stories, as their howls echo through the autumn air.

These four stones help you connect with this powerful spirit animal:

  • Black Tourmaline - protective shield, self-confidence, diminishes fear
  • Apatite - prevents nightmares, protects against unwanted energies, deepens meditation
  • Black Moonstone - protects your energy, attracts spirit guides, concentration, connects to the divine feminine
  • Stibnite - energetic shield, protects while journeying, wolf energy, strengthens intuition

The wolf is a symbol of the deep connection with intuition, confidence, and bold instincts. Wolves are dream-walkers and protect against nightmares, They hold moon energy- a balance of light and dark. The wolves are messengers of the spirit realm, which allows you to gain spiritual guidance.

“The average person rarely understands his/ her connection to and impact upon the environment. Most people live in the cloistered environments of the city, away from the wild or the truly natural world. Our trees and lawns are manicured. Our food is bought already prepared and packaged. Many see animal life as being either cute little Teddy Bear figures, or as “wascally wabbit” types as found on television and in cartoons. The only contact many have with truly wild animals are those which have adapted to living within city environments-the squirrels, raccoons, robins, and such.

Because of this, it is not surprising that most people do not feel a part of the natural world. There is little connection to it, and thus even less concern for it. For some it may hold a small fascination, but for many more there is a lack of reverence, respect, and understanding for it. The world is merely a distant, abstract object full of different creatures and plants, with no life or purpose of its own other than to take care of us.”

Crows are the keepers of the Sacred Law
and to have a Crow totem is very powerful.

Personal Integrity are your watchwords and your guide in Life.
If you have a Crow totem, your prime path
is to be mindful of your opinions and actions.
You must be willing to walk your talk,
to speak your truth and to know your life’s mission.

Crow is a omen of Change.
Crow lives in the void and has no sense of time,
therefore, it sees past, present and future simultaneously.
Crow merges both light and dark, both inner and outer.
It is the totem of the Great Spirit and must be respected as such.

They are symbols of creation and spiritual strength.
Look for opportunities to create and manifest the magic of life.
Crows are messengers calling to us
about the creation and magic that is alive in the world today
and available to us.

“Each animal brings to people something Native American traditions call animal medicine. The animals’ own physical traits bring spiritual lessons. Their natural instincts teach us things we have forgotten. Totem animals we encounter in visions and dreams come to teach us these lessons. These lessons are usually about qualities missing in our lives.

These totems guide and protect us in our waking and sleeping visions. Shamanic journeyers are greeted by a power animal that has a lesson for them. Shamans from the Central American traditions call their totem their nagual or nahvalli. Siberian shamans call them tutelary spirits. European witches work with animal familiars.

The power animals could be the animal archetype, or original animal oversoul, but individual animals play a role in guidance.”
