animal-charm

(Okay so, for context, We went on a quest and everyone got a magical item. I happened to get a ring of 3 wishes. 2 of them have been used up. I’m a chaotic evil rogue.)

Bard: Can’t we steal the ring from him

Druid: Yeah! Lets roll.

DM: Roll and add dexterity.

*they both roll a 4.*

(I began to think. What’s the stupidest thing I can wish for.)

Me: Okay I have a wish.

DM, sighing; What is it?

Me: *shows him a latex rooster mask*

DM: youre. sure about this.

Me: YeS

DM: SUDDENLY A BRIGHT FLASH OF MAGIC OCCURS, AND THE RING BREAKS. AND IN ITS PLACE. IS A LATEX ROOSTER MASK.

Me, cackling as the party begins to groan and yell at me:

DM: anyways

DM: you now have increased intimidation and can charm any animal that fly. are you proud of yourself?

Me: yes.

A funny thing about being a dude when you don’t want to be; you can deliberately kill yourself slowly in front of everyone and get cheered on for it. You can drink to the point where your skin is flushed from puking and pick up another drink while sobbing about your childhood and everyone just pats you on the back and is like “wow that dude is a party animal”. If you’re charming and funny enough, nobody questions your judgement. I’ve had dudes tell me how “dramatic” I became post-transition, and it’s like “wait, you fucking saw me smash a whiskey bottle and cut myself in public once because I was sad pre-transition”.
—  Rani Baker, “F*ggot As Gender Identity, Detransition As A Form Of Suicide”

Finally finished my altoid tin altar box!

Come take a look…

Outside of the tin. It stays closed but I added the ribbon for an extra touch. I’m debating putting a pentacle or some moons on, but that may be for another day. I sanded the top, painted a layer of modge podge down, then painted with acrylics and sealed with polyeurothane.

The inside is lined with jewelry bag fabric on the bottom. The top is acrylic paint and a sealed feather - air signs whaddup!!! My mini altar cloth is out to show the fit of everything in the box (aka barely).

In my box I have…

- a mini altar cloth

- tealight

- matches

- small vial of pink salt (grounding), lavender (calming), rose petal (self love), sage (cleansing), amethyst (also calming), and quartz points (clarity and amplification)

- tiny vial of coffee beans

- quartz point which I may take out

- elephant guardian animal

- yak/buffalo/bison charm for my spirit guide

- safety pins (wishes)

- small amazonite

- element representations: acorn charm (earth), seashell (water), carnelian (fire), wand (air)

- small moonstone

And here she is in use!

~THE BASIC TOOLS OF A WITCH~
**tools do not need to be used but make casting easer and this is not a complete list, as different paths have there own lists.

THE CHALICE
the chalice is often made of silver, tho it can be made of any material. It is associated with water, and feminine energies.

THE CAULDRON
A tool of fire, often used to burn offerings , fire magic, or mixing potions. Many use cast iron cauldrons as cooking vessels.

DOWSING RODS
A divination tool often used to find lost objects or find underground water for well making.

MAGICAL JOURNAL
A magical journal often called a book of shadows due to pop culture , often used to keep a log of magical experiences, practices and recipes.
Many believe the power of the written word, I personally believe that there’s more power in writing down it all by hand. You can use you book any way you want and name it what you want. It’s supposed to be personal and over the years you may have a series of books written by you.

THE WAND
A can be made with a verity of materials as well, many use certain woods and crystals while others use copper. They have masculine energies and considered tools of fire/ air. They are used to direct magical energies.
WILLOW: lunar magic
OAK: fire magic
APPLE: love magic
To name a few woods and magical uses.
THE ATHAME
A double sided blade that is never to be used to cut any physical surface. The Athame is usually considered to be a tool of air/fire. Used to direct energy , it is masculine
THE BESOM
A broomstick it combines both masculine and feminine energies, used to “sweep away unwanted energies” never to be used for mundane but only for the magical, or else you risk loosing any magical power stores in it.
THE SMOKE FAN
Used to move magical energies in a space, a tool of air as it can be used in combination with sage for a cleansing ritual.

~BASIC TOOL CONSECRATION~
Prior to consecration I rub the wand with fresh lavender ,eucalyptus or mint leaves.
When I consecrate my tools I hold the tool (wand) in my hand and visualize it absorbing my energies, then I purify the tool( wand) from its old energies with the elements , I choose to use the smoke method. While I smoke cleanse the wand I usually say aloud a blessing of the elements.
Elemental blessing:
I HOLD IN MY HANDS THE (tool), WHICH I DEDICATE AS A TOOL OF THE (name of element) ELEMENT. I DEDICATE IT TO POSITIVE USES AS I WALK THE PATH OF THE WISE

By wand, blade cup, and pentacle
I charge you now ; attend to me!
This is my will, so mote it be!

-Dismissal of the elements
Earth, Water ,fire and Air
Elements both strong and fair,
Return to your abodes now; Flee!
This is my will, so mote it be!

Centering ritual
To be centered means it balanced physically spiritually and then all the set-top bodies as well this concept is a bit intangible most simply know the feeling when we reach it. to use stones to aid centering like those Used in meditation ,stimulate the mind and is recommended for spirituality clear fluorite is a good choice for this task, and restaurants are that are good for both sending and grounding hold the stone hearthstones while the meditate practice breathing exercises are use this out and like music or bells you can also gaze at the stones and practice centering this way in addition using prayer beads can help one become centered and focused.
Chant:
Body mind and spirit now align
center focus on this goal of mine
subtile bodies balance to the core
clear and strong I’m ready to explore
-Chan can help create a sense of connectedness
To the sky spirit , rise
with my voice Lift my eyes,
see the sun, moon, and stars
touch them all, mine and ours

Grounding ritual
You’re well grounded you’re cleared of excess energy you’re probably connected so any excess energy flows to their lack of grounding during Ritual is Dangerous, there are symptoms and nervousness ,short temper, fatigue ,illness other symptoms may be exhausted at your immune system my weekend so that should does may include dizziness and unbalanced feeling ,being confused ,chakra balances and chakra energy disturbances in the aura or subtle bodies.
Select stones to ground and think heavy especially talk Ors Load Stone Scalia and Hematite, bronze and Brett are less commonly used that are both heavy and also good choices aground. Dark Colors like black tourmaline, smoky quartz and Onyx can also be used. experiment, with everyone to fill which one works for you. hold the stone your hand cupping one palm over the other. Popular visualization for grounding it’s imagine yourself as a tree roots digging into the soil, you can also visualize yourself a stone.
Chant:
To The ground I am bound
see my roots reaching down
to the weight of the stone
one with earth, flesh and bone
Via The book of Chrystal spells
by Ember Grant

-if you have any questions or concerns please send me an ask and we could talk. :) the-darkest-of-lights

A Study On Patronuses

Ok so I’ve seen a lot of posts lately about James Potter’s patronus vs Snape’s patronus. People have been talking about how since James’s is a stag, he complements Lily, and it means he loves her, while Snape’s doe shows his obsession with her. (Obviously since Lily’s patronus is a doe) And there’s been talk about how “love is different than obsession and this is why Snape didn’t *really* love her, and that’s why she would always have chosen James blah blah.”

I’m not arguing the fact that she would’ve always chosen James. James and Lily have complementary patronuses. Lily is a doe, and James is a stag. Their patronuses were not influenced by each other, but they are a pair because they themselves fit as a pair. Their personalities and experiences make them alike and compatible.

But Snape having the same patronus as Lily doesn’t make him obsessed with her.

Expecto Patronum literally translates to “I await a guardian.”

A patronus takes the form of an animal, and the charm becomes semi-sentient, seemingly with a mind of its own.

The Patronus is a protector against dementors, which take good memories and leave only bad ones.

What form a person’s patronus takes is dependent on their personality, their experiences, and their good and bad memories.

Harry’s patronus is a stag, like his father’s. THAT IS PIVOTAL BECAUSE IT IS STRESSED THAT HARRY’S PATRONUS IS **THE SAME AS HIS FATHER’S.**

Throughout his years at Hogwarts, Harry uses the idea of his father as a shield and almost like a security blanket. He decides to die on his feet, *like his father.*

He plays Quidditch, *like his father.*

He looks like his father. He “struts” like his father.

The idea of his father as a hero he can emulate gives him strength.

And Harry is very like his father. But he is also an individual, with a very different personality, and very different experiences.

Harry’s patronus isn’t a stag.

Harry’s patronus is his father.

His father is the guardian that he holds and the ideal and role model that he expects to see him through dark times.

When saving Sirius from the dementor’s kiss, his intention is to protect an innocent man, and his godfather, but more importantly his dad’s best friend. He draws on James and what he knows of him, and his patronus takes the form of a stag…

Not because he’s so like his father that they have the same patronus, but because James is Harry’s patronus.

That established, Snape’s patronus is a doe for similar reasons. Snape loved Lily. He was influenced by her. She was his happy memory. In dark times, Snape held on to the thought of Lily, as is apparent from his years of bitterness risking his life and protecting her son.

When Snape casts a patronus in the astronomy tower, Dumbledore asks, “Lily? After all this time?”

Snape’s patronus isn’t a doe because he’s obsessed with Lily.

His patronus *is* Lily. Lily is his unwitting guardian against the dark, just as James is for Harry.

Snape’s patronus may take the form of a doe, just as Harry’s patronus takes the form of a stag, but their patronuses are Lily and James.

And I don’t mean that the souls of Lily and James are chilling out around town to pop up and save Snape and Harry from dementors when the need arises, but the essence of Lily and James, the memory of them, the idea of them, the comfort they bring, are the patronuses. Snape’s patronus looks like a doe because Lily’s patronus is a doe and Snape’s patronus is Lily redeeming him. Harry’s patronus looks like a stag because James’s patronus was a stag and Harry’s patronus is his father protecting him.

Snape’s patronus being a doe doesn’t mean he’s obsessed with her. He loves her. His patronus is a doe because he sees Lily as his protector and his guardian, as he did in school, and as he “always” will.

These have been my feelings. Thank you very much.
