I’m blessing you all with this. Look at my little munchkins. You’re welcome. While I was editing the pics, True colors was playing so it made it more emotional and, If you listened closely in that scene, you can hear the true colors melody playing)

P.P.S. Yes, he wears shorts. Let him wear his shorts. He likes his cute shorts.

So spoilers for the Stevenbomb but like, knowing what we know now, about the human Zoo and all, REALLY explains how Rose treated Greg in the beginning. She hadn’t met a human like Greg before, all the humans in Pink Diamonds Zoo were so conditioned to how their lives were, and now here’s Greg who feels what he wants, and has “weird” reactions to things (like her being confused why he was laughing then crying). On top of it all, Greg “choosened” her. He never waited for a voice from the sky to tell him who he would be with, he chose a giant woman with crazy hair. Even with Blue Diamond’s reaction to Greg, it’s fair to say that Rose saw humans as a silly and endearing type of animal based on the interactions from the zoo. She had never met a human with such a complex way of thinking; a human that was able to have in depth conversations with.

The Hub

Sorry for the delay - the Pleistocene Plains incident has meant all hands on deck for most of us!

The Hub is the first area past the main entrance. Once you get your ticket, pat yourself on the back - you have now entered Huxley Paleozoo. To your right is the information desk and the lost and found. To your left, you can purchase a membership and rent wheelchairs, scooters, or dune buggies. Also located here are the main gift shop and the security office.

The Anning Paleontological Museum is built into the entry complex. The two-story building has many exhibits on prehistoric life, Earth’s deep past, the process of paleontology, and more. It’s easy to spend a good chunk of your day here. One wing houses the Aspiring Paleontological Prodigies Program, an educational outreach program especially for kids, and our animal ambassadors - an interaction opportunity you can’t miss!

As well, a few animals can be found in the immediate area. The tip of the Talenkauen exhibit is the closest exhibit to entry - this large open exhibit gives our herd plenty of room. To the immediate left and right are paddocks for the giant rabbit Nuralagus and one of our Daphoenus - she’s a naturally solitary individual, unlike the other Daphoenus, who’ve organized a pack in the Cenozoic North America exhibit. The scrubby home of our gaggle of Coelophysis, the Zhejiangopterus aviary, and the Amargasaurus exhibit are not far off. A bit further away from the entrance are two large exhibits for two large theropods - Allosaurus and Carnotaurus. The open savannah our Allosaurus trio live in is quite a contrast to the forested wetland that our Carnotaurus live in.

There’s much more in the Hub, too much to entirely cover in one post. Stay tuned!

Animals here:

  • Allosaurus
  • Amargasaurus
  • Carnotaurus
  • Coelophysis
  • Daphoenus
  • Nuralagus

My goal is to be a herpetologist (the study of reptiles and amphibians) and I was wondering if you could help me connect with reptiles the way you do with sharks? How you have a shark spirit (forgive me if I misstated) but I would love to know how you meditate and ask for them to appear, please help!

Of course!

Through years of practice, I’ve honed myself to a point where it takes very little focus for me to be able to sense and interact with animal spirits. Perhaps those abilities will come faster to you–everyone’s different, after all.

When I call on Ancestor Megalodon for actual, serious conversations, I do have to focus a bit harder, and usually have to close my eyes. (When I’m just asking for strength or something, it’s usually enough to send the thought his way.) I have a very particular way of invoking him, and that is by calling out–usually mentally–his taxonomic classification.

So for Megalodon, that would be:

“Kingdom Animalia, Phylum Chordata, Class Chondrichthyes, Order Lamniformes, Family Lamnidae, Genus Carcharocles, Species Carcharocles megalodon.”

Granted, the entity I’m working with is the spirit of the species–an amalgam of everything that made C. megalodon, well, C. megalodon. If you’re looking to invoke an individual animal’s spirit, that’s something else altogether.

Hope this helped!

I know you said you want continue the animals fic, but did you have any further ideas for the animal interactions? And I thought it was a damn cute idea lovingly written btw <3

oh thank you, you’re so sweet! I had the idea of Jack like befriending a bird that frequented some birdfeeder she made (maybe she helped heal the thing? im not sure). And I had the classic Gavin saves a cat and somehow convinces Geoff to let him keep it. (probably because the cat reminded Gavin of a cat he had as a kid and sometimes Gavin just gets that Look and Geoff can’t say no). I didn’t have anything specific for Geoff, but someone had mentioned a little show pony for him and the idea cracked me up. And by all means if anyone wants to write their own versions/variations of it you can go ahead!

so if the humans from His Dark Materials went to Hogwarts, would they have daemons and patronuses? would they be the same animal? could they interact? or would the daemons just act like patronuses when they need to?

Probably a dog for James. A domestic animal who interacts well with other creatures as long as it doesn't feel threatened. They are very sociable and likeable. Easy to find but difficult to keep. They are also territorial animals and have been proved to be very emotionally attached to other dogs and humans. Just like the wolves, they are very loyal and trustful to their leaders... or owners.

Obviously. James is absolutely a dog. In the kindest way possible, of course.

He is all of those things. He’s a big happy puppy unless working or protecting someone.

Here’s a CNN article, three BBC articles, The New Yorker, the Atlantic, and breathless previews from the industry itself. Read some and you’ll quickly notice a trend – the developers are always taken at their word.

They occasionally admit that the game might not be perfect because the future is unknowable, but otherwise they’re all incredibly flattering previews that take every promise at its word. Perfectly realistic physics? Cool! Complex animal behavior and interaction? Can’t wait! Note that the earliest preview dates back to June 2014, 26 months before launch. I’m all for optimism, but come on. I can’t sell a million books by announcing that I have a great idea that will be written in two years, so why do games get a pass?

The year 2014 was also when Dude, Where’s My Sky? went to E3 and stole the show, wowing critics and winning multiple awards. So hey, here’s a question – why do we give out awards at E3? It’s a controlled environment where every presentation is carefully designed to hide flaws, and any questions from journalists are lobbed at developers like it’s a preschool softball game. That’s like giving “Trailer Of The Year” to Suicide Squad because it had a couple jokes and a fun song. Except, of course, we don’t give movie trailers awards – they’re met with honest skepticism, while game previews are greeted with the wide-eyed glee of a child who’s just learned about Christmas. Just look at how previews compare to reviews.

Unusual Care

(What was supposed to be just a cute little idea of Anders providing some unorthodox care at his clinic quickly turned into, well, something. So here’s uh… whatever this is. Warning for animal abuse, but everything ends happy, so yeah.)

[Now on AO3]

Anders let out an exhausted sigh as he collapsed into his chair. Maker, it had been a long day. He’d woken up this morning to the news that there’d be an accident at a Lowtown factory, most of the employees having been from Ferelden, forced into such dangerous work for far too little pay, followed by the injured arriving in droves. It had taken almost everything he had to deal with it, between attempting to triage the patients and actually healing them. Halfway through, he’d found himself leaning on Justice for help too much for his liking. The mage had managed to save most of them, but a couple were already too far gone by the time they got there, even for his talents.
