A good friend of mine was diagnosed with liver cancer when we were in high school. She was 16. Some time later, upon hearing that a surgery had not gone as well as hoped, I sat down with my guitar and wrote her a song. A few other good friends of hers strung together some photographs to make a music video and we sent it to her to watch from her hospital bed. When those same friends gathered together less than two years later to sing the song at her funeral, the dissonance was jarring. This was meant to be a work song, to see her through the hard days when the task of healing was tiring. It was not supposed to be a funeral hymn.

In June of 2015, we as a band decided that our LGBTQ community deserved a new song for Pride Week. This was days after the Supreme Court ruled that state-level bans on same-sex marriages were in violation of the Constitution of the United States, and it felt like the whole country was celebrating.

But as we began to write, I couldn’t help but think that although we had won this particular battle, the hatred and fear ailing our nation seemed as malignant as ever.

I knew this because people were still dying.

At least 21 transgender women were murdered in 2015. A disproportionate percent of our country’s homeless youth were (and are) LGBTQ adolescents, forced to reckon with the impossible task of staying healthy and safe without a home or proper health care.

We knew that if we were to make a song that truly spoke to the American LGBTQ community in 2015, it would need to address both victory and violence.

With “I Know a Place,” we chose to imagine a place where none of us would need to be afraid. In honor of Pride and the rich LGBTQ history of turning bars and ballrooms into safe havens, the space we imagined was a dance club:

I can tell when you get nervous
You think being yourself means being unworthy
And it’s hard to love with a heart that’s hurting
But if you want to go out dancing
I know a place
I know a place we can go
Where everyone’s gonna lay down their weapons

At the time, we intended the dance club to serve as a metaphor. Then, on June 12th, 2016, a gunman walked into Latin Night at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida — a queer space, a brown space, a safe space — and shot 49 people to death.

“I Know a Place” was never supposed to be a funeral hymn. It was meant to be a work song, like Yoko Ono’s full-page ad in the New York Times that proclaimed, “War Is Over!” in December of 1969, at the height of the Vietnam War. We wrote our song to be the voice in your head that tells you to celebrate peace during wartime, because our battle is only just beginning, and one day our war really will be over.

It was also meant to serve as encouragement for our community to remain vulnerable and kind and hopeful in the face of violence. We cannot build a better world without first imagining what that world might look like, and by creating that space inside ourselves first.

After the Pulse shooting, the Los Angeles Gay Men’s Chorus led a crowd of two thousand people outside City Hall in song:

We are a gentle, angry people
And we are singing
Singing for our lives

We sang with a unified voice that cried out, “We do not accept that this is what our world will look like.” And that night, people all over the country went out dancing — not just because it was Pride Weekend, but because they felt it important not to give in to fear in the face of hate.

People came together in dive bars, bedrooms, and places of worship to celebrate and to grieve, to love and protect one another, and this gentle resilience was nothing less than radical resistance.

Today, in this post-Trump America, many of us feel badly bruised. We, as a band, understand this. We believe it is a mistake to see this incoming Administration as anything other than a threat to the livelihood of our brothers and sisters; the LGBTQ+ community, the Muslim ummah, women, POC’s, indigenous Americans, undocumented people, the working class, and beyond. At the same time, we believe it is a mistake to say that a man whose best assets are hate and fear truly represents America. We say this because America has always been an idea, a utopian concept of a multiethnic, multicultural democratic republic, and therefore its home lies in the imagination, not in the House or the Senate or in a Trump Tower. In the bridge of the song, we implore:

They will try to make you unhappy; don’t let them
They will try to tell you you’re not free; don’t listen
I know a place where you don’t need protection
Even if it’s only in my imagination

Let us push ourselves to imagine a peaceful America where no one has to live in fear. Let us continue to build spaces with our humble means that reflect the America of which we dream. Let us keep up the fight.

Let us keep singing for our lives.

Ok, so, I literally swung it with this one, but it was fun to write! And it made my frien laugh, so I’m guessing it’s worth a shot!

This is based on this pic, made by @vp-dot-png for their klance writing contest

Nothing much to say, except hope you like it!

The water was yellow.

“I’m calling it, that’s actual pee.” Lance deadpans and his eyes widen in surprise when the person next to him erupts in laughter.

Keith leans forward, eyes tightly closed as giggles and snorts leave his mouth, barely allowing him to catch his breath. The Red Paladin holds his stomach in a weak attempt to control himself, but it’s no use, because more giggles shake him entirely and he’s barely fast enough to catch the jacket over his shoulder from falling to the ground.

“Oh, oh, man, dude,” Keith chokes out, slapping Lance’s shoulder playfully, “You can not just say things like that about an alien’s fountain.”

Lance snickers, nudging Keith with his shoulder. “Oh, come on, lighten up, Mullet. The planet is saved and for once, Allura allowed us to explore the city! Aren’t you glad you decided to stick with me instead of Hunk and Pidge’s robotic garden? Or Shiro and Allura’s meeting with the Queen?”

“Or Coran’s storytelling with a bunch of old guys.” Keith adds with a smirk, making Lance to shake his head.

“Exactly, so, I’m your saviour.”

“Psh, sure, okay,” Keith shakes his head in amusement, pushing his head back once again with a small bobby pin, “Just make sure that none of the locals are near whenever you plan to drop another judgemental comment about their water color.”

Lance gasps in mocking offense, hand pressed against his chest. “How dare you, Keith? I gave you my jacket.”

Keith grins and pulls Lance’s jacket tighter around him. “Real comfy, no wonder you are always using it.”

“You are taking advantage of how much of a gentleman I am, which rude.” Lance whines, puffing his cheeks in fake annoyance, making Keith to roll his eyes playfully.

“Whatever you say, Sir Lancelot, Knight of the Gentle Acts.”

Lance would take the bait, he really would, but he can’t, not when Keith’s eyes shine with playfulness and mischievousness, arching an daring eyebrow at him. Not when Keith’s cheeks are colored in a soft pink color and his hair is pushed back, allowing Lance to see his dark blue eyes clearly.

There’s something hypnotizing about Keith under the three moons of the planet they are currently on. Maybe is the fact that Keith’s wearing his jacket? Nah, can’t be, even though it looks like it was made for him and it makes Lance’s heart flutter.

Maybe it was the trees? The big tall trees filled with small flowers that resemble to the roses back on Earth, except these ones were covered in a pale red color mixed with green.

Lance doesn’t know, and it’s not like he wants to figure it out. He’s just glad that whatever is there around them stays, because it’s been so long since he has seen Keith so carefree, so at ease.

He doesn’t want it to end.

“Hey, Lance?” Keith’s calling shakes him out of this thoughts and then Lance’s looking straight into his eyes, his heart doing a sharp flip at the fondness they hold. “Honestly, thank you for…well, this. I’m having a great time.”

Lance swallows and nods, mouth suddenly dry.

“No problem, man,” he breathes out, a small smile making its way to his face. Keith mirrors his smile before his eyes go back to the fountain in front of them, scanning every corner of it in awe, walking around it calmly, leaving Lance behind in the spot.

Okay, McClain,’ Lance starts, shifting on his feet restlessly, ‘This is your chance, the time has come. Just like you saw in that romantic movie with Leah: just lean forward, and link your hand with his slowly and gently. Let the angels sing their chorus behind, you do the rest.’

Taking a deep breath, the brunet closes his eyes and steadies his own breathing. It’s now or never, the setting is perfect for a confession and the night is in his favour. He can do this. He has to do this.

Lance nods to himself and then takes a step forward.

“Where are you going?”

Lance squeaks and loses his footing as soon as the voice behind him speaks, their warm breath tickling Lance’s ear. The brunet is only able to hear Keith’s shout of his name before he’s falling back and water is dripping from the top of his head.

Lance blinks in surprise, confusion taking over his features as he wonders how the heck Keith circled the entire fountain in a few ticks before he looks up at meets Keith’s wide eyes.

One, two, maybe three ticks later and the best sound in the universe makes itself present.

“Oh, oh my god, dude, you just fell on a fountain full of pee,” Keith cackles, hand hovering over his mouth in a weak attempt to hide his laughter but his entire body goes against him and he can’t even hold himself straight, “Lance, oh my god, why.”

Why, Keith asks.

Because of that smile, Lance answers in his mind, eyes soft and gentle as he stares at the figure of Keith shaking with laughter.

Lance is totally fine to get soaked with alien pee if it means he gets to hear Keith’s carefree happiness.

He’s so entranced with Keith’s happy display that he doesn’t notice when Keith stops abruptly and stares at him in confusion.

“Lance,” he calls, confusion turning into amusement, eyes narrowed in suspicion, “Is there something you might wanna tell me?”

Lance blinks, looking bemused at the question and Keith shakes his head in disbelief.

“So, turns out it wasn’t actual pee.” He says amusedly, hand pressed against his cheek as he waits for Lance to make the connection.

Lance frowns and looks down to see the water.

Pink.

Ok, so, pink pee.

“Why is the pee pink now?” Lance mumbles quietly but it’s loud enough for Keith to hear, making him to snort.

“Because it’s not pee, you idiot,” Keith might have say that as an insult, but his voice was teasing and kind, “It’s an ancient water that allows you to see the reflection of your own feelings.”

Keith points towards a small plate on the right side of the fountain, rusty but its clear golden letters narrating a small legend about the fountain and its purposes.

Lance can feel his own cheeks getting warmer and then he notices Keith sitting on the edge of the fountain, leaning slightly down towards Lance.

“So…” Keith trails off, biting his lower lip nervously as he stares down at Lance.

Lance opens his mouth and closes it repeatedly, words failing him right when he needs them, but then he sighs, frustrated with himself.

He looks around him, searching for a way to communicate better, before he snaps his fingers and cups his hands, dipping them in the water before holding them up towards Keith.

Keith blinks at the cupped pink water held by Lance’s hands.

“I like you.” Lance whispers softly, offering a small shy smile.

He watches as Keith’s face lights up and suddenly, Lance’s fears fade away as soon as Keith’s hands appear just below his own.

Lance stares in awe as the once pink water turn into a deep shade of red as soon as Keith’s hand touches his own.

Keith knows there is no point of voicing his thoughts, but he still does, because Lance was brave enough to do it, and he owes him the same treatment.

“I like you too,” he whispers softly, smiling dopily at the brunet, who smiles back at him with equal motion.

I don't remember which blog you posted about this on, but on one of your blogs you mentioned a theory that it was actually Jeremiah that encouraged Kara to hide her powers and act normal not Eliza. Having just finished season 1 again, seeing the references to the past and what I remember of season 2, since I've only rewatched the first 2 episodes so far, I can totally see how that would make sense and if you ever post the details of that theory I would read the shit out it.

I think I mentioned it here at some point? Maybe. I have talked about it with @ultranos and with @motorcyclegirlfriends a couple of times.

It’s not really a *theory* in that I think it is the One True Way to read the family dynamics, it’s just … an interpretation of canon that nobody’s really considered that is both interesting and frighteningly easy to spin into a plausible headcanon.

The starting point is Alex.

Namely, it’s the fact that Alex is not a reliable narrator when it comes to any member of her immediate family.

She admits repeatedly in S1 that her own insecurities and jealousy toward Kara colored her perception of their relationship for years. She spent the better part of a decade inaccurately reading her relationship with Eliza, again because her insecurities clouded her judgment.

So, if Alex wasn’t seeing Kara or Eliza clearly for all those years, why should we expect her assessment of Jeremiah to be accurate, either?

There were certain rules to being a veterinary technician.

Number one, waterproof mascara and eyeliner always! When the customer cries, you cry. Number two, carry a lint roller on you at all times; it’s best to get the pocket-sized one, because Mr. Twinkles sheds a lot! Number three, iron your scrubs! And it’s probably best to keep an extra pair in your car, because Mrs. Comier’s Jack Russell likes to pee on people.

Even though you knew these rules by heart, and you followed them every single day of your work-life, today was an exception. It was just one of those days that absolutely nothing- no matter how hard you tried- was going right. You were covered in fluffy cat hairs, Mrs. Comier’s Jack Russell peed on your leg twice, and you had run out of waterproof mascara; so when Mr. Langley brought in his thirteen year old Labrador to put her down, he cried, and so you cried, and in the end you looked like the raccoon that liked to sneak into the office dumpsters at closing.

Today just wasn’t your day.

Frank Castle hasn’t been on a real date since the last time Hell’s Kitchen had a drive-in movie theatre. That was approximately a decade ago, if his math is right, but Christ only knows he isn’t great with numbers. Or dates. His general perception of time has begun to edge out of sync with reality, in all honesty.

"I've always been bad" cut to the nerdiest poet ever to appear on tv

I made the weirdest giggle snort when I saw this in my inbox.

Fun fact - there was one summer where I was stuck in a tiny, tiny town in Nebraska with very little to do. We’re talking the kind of town with one restaurant, one grocery store, and two bars- all located on Main St. I’d brought a VHS tape with me that had Fool for Love recorded on it and… well…

I had that entire episode fucking memorized by the time we went back home.

I seem to have two main types when it comes to characters - awkward heartfelt nerds and villians who want to redeem themselves. So learning that Spike was secretly a love struck dork who wrote really bad poetry was like ~a chorus of angels singing~ moment for me.

I just want to take him and wrap him up in a blanket.

One of my favorite parts about Spike were the moments where we saw flashbacks to his life before Sunnydale. Because when you put those pieces together, he repeatedly comes across as a man who is deeply insecure, constantly seeking the approval of others despite behaving as though he’s above that sort of thing. He was a human who only wanted to be loved and accepted despite knowing he didn’t fit in. As a vampire, he couldn’t stand Angelus and yet looked up to him like some twisted father figure who he wished would see him as an equal. He completely dedicated himself to Dru as if they were soulmates and yet that level of devotion was never fully reciprocated. And eventually, he reaches a point where that same desire to find somewhere to belong, somewhere to fit in, applies to Buffy and her gang. It’s an ill-fitting transition that hits of a lot of bumps in the road, but it’s there all the same.

I also appreciate him as a character because he makes the Buffyverse’s line between good and evil really blurry. With Angel, it’s a relatively simple dichotomy - he has a soul, he’s good. He doesn’t, he’s all-out 100% sadistic evil. But with Spike, he’s kind of caught somewhere in between. Even as a demon-driven vampire, he feels sympathy. He has the capacity for kindness. He tries to offer comfort. He holds the safety of the Summers sisters above his own survival. And at the exact same time, he’s still making morally questionable if not outright despicable choices because he’s still a soulless creature… I feel like the writers didn’t always strike the right balance between the two, which made it feel as though they weren’t exactly sure what to do with him. But the fact that that grey area existed in the first place is really interesting to me in a show that is all about good vs evil.

I know you probably weren’t expecting a rant from a little joke ask like that but… well… here ya go.

I suppose it’s a consequence of having not talked about a fandom you were intensely into for years… it all kinda spills out at once.

Hey!
How’s everybody doing?
Alright, now, my name is Adam Lambert, and I am proud to be a human.
I’m also gay, cis-gendered, redheaded, Jewish, and a man, but that’s getting specific.
Look, we have moved into an era of intense categorizing in an effort to declare our identities.
We use labels in order to help others understand who we are, and how we live, and sometimes we need them to figure ourselves out too, because we want to take pride in our individuality.
But do you sometimes feel that we have gotten a little carried away with all of these labels?
Because at the end of the day we are all human beings.
I mean wouldn’t you rather identify someone by their name and their energy, instead of their sexual preference, their race, their gender, their age, or their religion?
If we could do that, wouldn’t that be more rewarding and allow for deeper connection?
Now, I know, that’s being very idealistic.
It’s wishful thinking, and sadly, this is not the reality of the world we live in.
Especially lately.
Now, I typically avoid publicly speaking about politics because of its divisiveness.
People get real sensitive and I ain’t trying to piss anybody off.
But, this year things have gone way too far.
So, I’m not speaking today about being a democrat versus a republican.
Today is about right versus wrong.
The current presidential administration has manipulated the country using fear and hate to gain power to divide us.
Our differences are being used against us, and the shockwaves of this dangerous rhetoric have rippled throughout our community and beyond.
And it fucking hurts.
We have come way too far to stand by and watch our social progress be yanked backwards.
You know, it’s almost like they’re going “Meh. You’re different, you can’t sit with us.”
What the fuck is that?
It’s childish and it needs to end now.
Now, our pride parade is usually an all-out shit show of a party where we all dress up like crazy unicorns and prance around through the streets.
Yeah.
It is a celebration of the progress we have made; our liberation, our freedom, our glitter.
But this year we are facing such dark forces that pride has taken on a deeper purpose.
Protest.
So today we stand together in order to support anyone who’s human rights are at risk.
We resist homophobia, we resist transphobia, we resist misogyny, bi-invisibility, we resist racism, xenophobia, and we resist extremism, and anything else that helps promote hate.
We stand defiant and will not be brainwashed.
We refuse to be sucked into that kind of negativity.
But. I ask you not to fight hate with hate.
We don’t want to be hypocrites.
So how can we resist?
I’ll tell you what I think.
With unity, with visibility, truth, inclusion, acceptance, and most importantly love.
Look, we got a lot of work to do, and a lot of ignorance to combat, but we know right from wrong.
We know that we are stronger together than we are divided.
So, take some time today and connect with someone different from you. Recognize another human being.
We all deserve to love and be loved, and that goes for all of us within the queer community, within this country, and on this planet.
After all, the only way our rainbow is a motherfucking rainbow is with all the colors shining equally.
Thank you! Thank you!
(And now it’s my pleasure to introduce, once again, the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles, the Trans Chorus of Los Angeles, and the West Coast Singers, singing “This Land is My Land". Thank you!)

Chat Noir had to admit; Marinette was fun to be around. He hadn’t laughed so hard in such a long time. And over the most stupid, inane things ever. It was catching, her laugh was absolutely delightful and every time the chorus of angels graced the sky he found himself leaning closer to her, reveling in her voice and her presence and her laughter.

Of course, it could just be the alcohol talking.

How about a HC of a MC that can change their voice depending on the song, ex: sad song deep/solemn voice, happy song higher/lighter voice. And the RFA +V and Unknown hearing the MC'S voice changes C:

Yoosung

  • he likes to listen to MC hum while he cooks or is near them in general
  • hearing them sing, however, is certainly much different than a hum
  • the first time, he almost thinks MC is playing a song on the radio
  • Because the song MC chose to sing is a sad one
  • and he was just not prepared for MC’s voice to turn deep and emotive
  • always amazed when MC finishes singing and then talks- their voice changes! It’s so cool!

Jaehee

  • Jaehee loves music, but the best part of it is the vocals to her
  • this is more than clear when seeing her love for Zen’s musicals
  • she’d heard MC singing a bit, but it’d always been some small mild song they heard in a comercial or something, not a real song
  • so when Jaehee and MC watch a musical together and MC knows the songs, they sing along
  • she’s surprised at MC’s voice adapting to the tone of the song and the ambience of the scene
  • compliments it a lot too

Zen

  • he and MC are the power singing couple
  • when MC randomly starts singing as they wash the dishes or something, Zen joins in pretty quickly
  • those who have heard these spontaneous duets would describe them as a chorus of angels
  • Zen’s trained voice and MC’s adaptive tone mix together super well and it makes Zen happy to be able to share a passion of his with MC
  • plus, he loves MC’s voice, so if he can make them sing just by singing himself and inviting them to join, he’s down for that

Jumin

  • it’s no secret to most of us Jumin has the singing voice of a god
  • after MC asks him to one day, he agrees to sing a small fraction of a sad song that fits his voice
  • he’s a bit surprised when MC clears their throat and starts humming as he sings
  • he’s even more shocked when MC starts singing and it’s as if their voice had evolved
  • sometimes, he’ll just randomly ask MC to sing for him because he can’t get enough of their voice

707

  • he never turned on the audio capture on the cameras in Rika’s apartment
  • he felt like it was digging too deep into MC’s privacy
  • still, he couldn’t help it when he saw MC absorbed into something and their mouth moving as if they were speaking
  • so he turned on the audio, just for a second
  • and he heard MC singing to themselves
  • it was capturing, and even though he had promised to only listen for a second, he kept listening
  • it felt like MC was a siren, luring him in deeper with their alluring song

Unknown

  • MC starts singing to him to help him sleep
  • at first he’s almost offended- does MC see him as a child of something?
  • he’s fully against the idea of being tucked in and sung to sleep
  • but MC still sat next to his bed and sang their heart out
  • he really wasn’t expecting that. It caught him off-guard
  • he also realized that he’s found a good method to sleep without much nightmares

V

  • as his eyes got worse, he relied more and more on sound to move around
  • MC’s singing voice is one of the best things he’s heard
  • their voice morphs so easily and realistically, V can almost feel emotions dripping off the words
  • it’s soothing to hear, and it’s a reminder that MC loves him
  • he’s not afraid to compliment their voice lots
