2015 Show Ideas: Carolina Crown

Way back when I was but a junior in high school, still but a novice DCI fan to be honest, my band performed a show titled “Gemini”.  It was based on the idea of twins.  We had two drum majors, both real life twins, playing solos.  We had the field split into brass and woodwinds most of the time.  We had music heavily featuring minor 2nd intervals.  And we played the Bill Withers classic “Just the Two of Us” as a ballad.

The show was an original composition/arrangement written by none other than Crown percussion arranger Andrew Markworth.

I think that the corps from Ft. Mill, SC should bring this concept to the field DCI style.  The Cadets started the idea with 2011 and 2013, but I believe that Crown can take it to another level.  The music should feature the brass band piece “Equilibrium” by Paul Lovatt-Cooper and the corps should get an original piece composed specially for them by Cooper as well.  The Blue Devils did a great thing by getting Gordon Goodwin to write some original stuff for them last year.  I think Crown can benefit just as much by having one of the top brass band composers in the world write for them.

The concept is rich with themes to use for the show.  The Gemini sign is known for being multi-talented which they can show through more instrument switching like they did this year.  The concept of twins also lets them bringing things like sibling rivalry and familial love.  The mythological story of Gemini itself is pretty interesting as well.
