“I should have gone to the morgue with Dean,” I grumbled as Sam and I Interviewed our umpteenth witness that day who knew nothing.  This had been a complete waste of our time.  No one had seen anything, knew anything, or cared that a man had seemingly spontaneously combusted in front of the town grocery store.

“These people are by far the stupidest crop of witnesses we have ever come across.” I bitched to Sam. He sighed and checked his notes.  

“One more person to interview.  Tina Mulloy, the cashier at the Shop and Save.  I called the store.  She’s there now.”

“Hopefully she saw something worthwhile.  My feet hurt and this is six hours of my life I’ll never get back.  Did Dean find anything?” I asked hopefully.

Sam shook his head.  “Nope.  The vic’s fried extra crispy, He’s got nothing.  We’re gonna meet him at the diner when we finish up with the cashier.”

“Let’s go then. I just wanna get these heels off and eat ice cream and forget this day.”

Let’s go over the cinnamon topography in Grace and Frankie

Part One | Part Two | Part Three

Cinematography helps convey emotions, and (imo) it’s one of the reasons why we’re sensing romantic tension between Grace and Frankie. How the scenes are shot, blocked, and lit subconciously (or conciously, depending on how aware & critical you are while watching the show) affect our perceptions on the narrative.

Quick sidebar: narrative is different from plot. The plot of Grace and Frankie is the what. What it’s about, what goes on, etc. The narrative is the how. How it’s told, how they navigate their lives, etc. 

Plot =/= Narrative 

For the sake of this meta, I’m focusing on the narrative. Plot only gets them so far, you know?

I’m going to draw in examples from other films/shows that employ the same cinematographical and narrative tactics Grace and Frankie uses. I’m also going to draw in examples from those that don’t, but still have the same core plot (strong female friendship) to provide further insight on why we sense this romantic tension between Grace and Frankie.

Fantastic Beasts Character Review

Because, as stated before, the characters alone make me prefer the Fantastic Beasts series to the originals.

Spoiler Alert!

Newt Scamander: Starting out strong here. God bless this small awkward bean. I’m such a sucker for cute fictional boys that have a hard time interacting with humans and are full of a lot of sadness but still want to see the best in the world and Newt is no exception. I fell in love with him within ten minutes of the film, and I remember seeing the previews and thinking, “oh no, not another cute fictional boy for me to obsess over.” The way he sort of latches onto people that he has a good feeling about is adorable (ie. Jacob), and I love how trusting he is as soon as he realizes that the Goldsteins and Jacob are on his side. The Hufflepuff Newt is made very clear, as he is extremely loyal and hardworking with his passions. And his awkwardness is conveyed very well and realistically – not like teen comedies where an obviously social and gorgeous teen is all, “lol look at me i’m so awkward and relatable :3″. Newt obviously CAN talk to people, and he knows how to, but he doesn’t have the charm or way with words that Queenie or Jacob have. He’s an introvert who interacts better with creatures than humans, and I think that’s how a lot of “awkward” people feel. Altogether, Eddie Redmayne (god i love him) did a FANTASTIC job portraying Newt’s big heart and reclusive tendencies and I am beyond excited to learn more about Newt (and his brother !!) in coming films.
