Reminiscence (Calum imagine)

Summary: You spend Valentine’s Day reminiscing

Word Count: 1.6k

A/N: This has to be one of my favourite things that I’ve ever written :) Please pay attention to the dates and times! It begins in the present, and then there are a series of flashbacks. They’re all in chronological order for ease of reading, but please pay attention to the timings if you’re unsure!

This is for @calumsbicth and @calsdream‘s Valentines!5sos blurb night!

Present day, Valentine’s Day

With a cream envelope held between your fingers, you can’t prevent the smile from spreading across your lips. A greying memory slips into your mind, your eyes fluttering to a close as you let yourself get taken away to the land of fantasies.

Valentine’s day, two years ago, 1pm

“Y/N!”

At the sound of your name, you looked up.  You were in a park, sitting on a picnic blanket. Surrounding you were hundreds of tiny daisies, scattered amongst the green grass like a sprinkling of icing sugar.

“Hmm?” You looked across the blanket to see Calum, your boyfriend, with a wide smile spread across his face.

I've never read any type of fan fiction , soo can you recommend me good slow burn camren fics? Thanks love your blog girly

Lauren never planned on living in the house she lived in. She never planned on working the job she worked. She never planned on befriending a strange girl named Camila, either. Lauren never planned a lot of things. Thanks sweets 😘

Chances (one of my favs)

Camila and Lauren both share a room in college, but that’s about the only thing they have in common. At least that’s what they assume. From the start, they haven’t been able to get along with each other, seeing as they’re pretty incompatible and they pick fights over everything. But little do they know that they’re each other’s closest friends on Tumblr. They message each other constantly and along the way, feelings developed. What happens when they soon realize on a bold decision to meet on a blind date that the person who they want nothing to do with is the same person they think about right before they go to sleep?

Lifeboat Lighthouse (favs)

Camila’s entire life had been mapped out for her since she was child, she would go to college, study business and then eventually take over her father’s company. It was a life she never wanted but had no say in at all. But when the privileged daughter of a multimillionaire meets Lauren, a waitress on the luxury cruise ship where she’ll be spending the summer, her world and everything she knows is turned upside down. Camila is about to learn the hard way that just like the ocean that she sails on, life can be unpredictable. Like the turning tides, everything can change in an instant.

Walk a Mile (favs)

Look with your eyes. Judge with your soul. First impressions almost always suck. They can be spot on or way off, depending on how open and receptive you are to the other person. When you make preconceived notions about people, learning to tolerate them can be a little difficult. What if you have to live with them? That’s the situation Camila and Lauren have been put in. As typical and cliche as it may be, two totally different worlds collide. However this time, neither of them know whether they’ll mould or combust.

Yours Truly

Lauren and Camila know a lot about each other, except for, well, their names. They’ve been writing anonymous, handwritten letters to each other for an English assignment for a couple months now and during that time, Lauren’s developed a genuine interest for a girl whose handwriting resembles a child’s first attempt at using a pencil. But she couldn’t be more charmed by it. What happens when Lauren unexpectedly finds out that the shy girl in her class who she doesn’t know a single thing about has the exact same handwriting as in the letters she anticipates reading every single day?

Through Her Eyes

Lauren never planned on living in the house she lived in. She never planned on working the job she worked. She never planned on befriending a strange girl named Camila, either. Lauren never planned a lot of things.

Reasons to go, reasons to stay

“And I wonder how many polar opposites we have brought together by falling in love. Inside you could have been the match that started the fire and burned down an entire house, and inside of me may live the remnants of a rocking chair inside the house that was burned to the ground. All these little things… these cells that make up our bodies, they could have once despised one another. But now every single part of me is in love with every single part of you. Just with one touch we would be resolving age old conflicts, or ushering the tip of the tallest mountain to kiss the sand that lies at the deepest part of the ocean.”

Yellow series : Yellow / Blue / Green  (FLUUUFFFF)

Lauren Jauregui hated Camila Cabello, plain and simple. Of course, who could blame her? Camila had been the one who read Lauren’s private texts in front of the whole cafeteria, forcing her out of the closet. Lauren left for New York with her three best friends the day she graduated, thinking she had escaped Camila. The only problem is, Camila is back. And different. Completely different. Not the kind of ‘different’ you’d expect, either.

The Stripper (SMUT)

Have you ever imagined having two lives? Be two people at the same time? I bet you have. But between thinking and living there was a very big distance, believe it. Imagine… Camila, a sweet and delicate woman. Karla, sexy and imposing. Which one would you choose? What’s your type? Hard, I know. Let’s let Lauren answer this one…

Experiments (SMUT)

A lot of girls experiment in college; it’s natural. It’s no different at the University of Miami, and when they’re looking to experiment, they know exactly who to go to. But what will happen when she finally falls for one of the girls she hooks up with?

Trials & Tribulations (very long but must read)

“A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor.”

CC7 / LJ10 (still ongoing - not many updates)

Lauren and Camila are two of the most promising soccer talents in the country. The two skilled girls are playing for the U-17 US team to win the world championship in Costa Rica. Their connection on the field is obvious but what happens off field when unexpected feelings come in to play?

Surreal Perfection (non au)

It’s been a year since Lauren decided to break out from Fifth Harmony to start her own band, and Camila still hasn’t forgiven her for leaving them, and for leaving her. After a brief encounter at an award show, their lives come crashing back together. Angst, Drama, Humour, Romance, and everything else in between.

The Girl Next Door

Camila Cabello is an average girl. She’s not popular, or somewhere in between. She belongs to a group that her school refers to as the Brains. She’s extremely smart, involved in many educational clubs and the only thing fun in her life, advanced choir.  She’s that type of girl who gets pushed around, does people’s homework because they tell her too, and gets tormented by the preps. The preps (the popular kids) are a group of people who torment people like the Brians. Camila has found her self running from them all her life. Along side with her friends Dinah Jane Hansen, Normani Kordei, Ally Brooke and Darren Criss. But one day during one of her encounters with the preps, her life changes forever. And it was all because of her.

hey caffeine!! so my highschool has this writing contest and i really want to participate. the topic can be whatever we want (free form? style? i don't know how to say it in english lol) and i can't think of anything for the life of me. i've been looking at prompt blogs all day but nothing convinces me, and bc i always like what you write about, i was wondering if you could give me some ideas/tell me your favourite tropes or something like that. thanks for reading anyway!!!💖

WELCOME TO THE THUNDERDOME! Here’s five things that have been on my mind lately!

  • Superhero universe: Your best friend left your small town to become a hero in the Big City. But, after three years, you turn on the news and see that they’ve become a super villain. So now you gotta go take them out because of this blood pack you guys made when you were eight.

  • The Fae: Shana’s a changeling, something that the good folk in her parents’ backyard thinks should surprise her. She thinks that it might have in the old days when iron jewelry wasn’t a thing, but she’s known since she was eight and googled “Allergic to iron??????”

  • Okay, so you know that one scene in the movies where the MC learns a secret art from a master? And then the MC has to go fight the Big Bad after like a month of tutelage? What if another master of the art shows up, sees what’s going on and THROWS DOWN with the master who trained the MC? “WHAT PART OF YEAR AND A DAY TRAINING DID YOU NOT UNDERSTAND??? MC HAS BEEN TRAINING FOR A MONTH!” And then they go fight the Big Bad.

  • Someone who’s got precognitive abilities that can only see five seconds into the future. They call it the “five second rule” and all of their friends think it’s about food and the entire plot is just a series of misunderstandings around that.
  • “Sorry I’m late. The five second rule doesn’t apply to late buses.”  “???Lol, you’re a crack up, of course it doesn’t apply to buses.”

  • An empath who hides their ability from the world, thinking that they’ll be ostracized for it. Then aliens land and the ALIENS are empaths and are looking for “evolutionary anomalies” that makes humans compatible with their dying species. So…romance, I guess? Or a dystopian rebel story.

hey! i was just thinking, that i've been listening to the songs harry requested on radio 1 and they've been stuck in my head for so long omg. and like, i'm not connecting the songs he requested to larry, but with each song a little scenario ab them plays in my head! was wondering if you could write little snippets based on a couple of the songs? sweetest devotion by adele and issues by julia michaels!

I got really carried away with this; I combined both of these songs and very subtly put a few of the lyrics into a mess of 3k. I hope this works for you xx

Louis watches the build up and break over a period of months. Years, even. Harry’s tired. They both are, but Harry’s exceptionally so. He’s been working nonstop on his album, his photography, himself, and now that he’s back in the limelight all day, everyday, it’s taking a serious toll. Louis doesn’t say anything or imply that Harry needs to slow down, but he wants to, just isn’t quite sure how. Harry’s been a little moodier, a little more on edge, and the whole time Louis is trying to figure out a way to approach the subject lightly, it seems that Harry has already given it just as much thought as Louis has, if not more.

“I think I wanna take some time off,” he says one night just before bed. He’s in the middle of changing his pants, tripping into them like he always does. “Like, hide, maybe?” The way he says it makes it sound like he’s asking for permission from Louis, just to make sure they’re currently at the same level.

Louis raises a brow from his position in bed and looks up, relieved, worried. “Yeah? Like go on an extended holiday?”

“Mmm, something like that.”

“Care to elaborate?”

Harry crawls into bed beside him, shirtless and shoulders pink from his sunburn. The weather was mild and about 10 degrees today - typical for January - but they spent the majority of the day outside, anyway, Harry lounging in the backyard, ignoring Louis’ request to venture out. Paps, he said simply, going back to shielding his eyes from the LA sun.

“I rented out a place in Maine,” he says, reaching for his reading glasses on the bedside table. He doesn’t really need them, but no matter how much Louis teases him about it, he continues to wear them, squinting without them. Dramatic. “I’m not even really sure where it is, but I know it’s right on a lake, it’s in the woods, it’s secluded, it’s…” He sighs. “Not here.”

Louis’ stomach tightens. “You trying to get away from me, Styles?”

“No, God no.” Harry shakes his head, curls finally grown back in and bouncing. “I’m trying to take a break from everything, but that doesn’t include you. You can come with me, if you want. But don’t feel obligated to. I know how much you love it here. And that you like writing here best.”

I love it here because you’re here. “I’m comin’ with,” he replies eventually.

“You want to?”

“Yes. You’re a bit strange for wanting to fuck off to the middle of nowhere but. I’m used to your weirdness by this point. No judgement here. I’ll come with.”

Harry smirks, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose like Louis always does. Copy cat. “Good.”

“So, when’re we leaving?”

“Thursday morning.”

“Christ, you’re an impulsive lad, aren’t you?”

“I suppose.”

“Makes life interesting.”

Harry nods, reaching for the remote for the telly, then setting it back down. “I’m very happy. I really am. I just need a change, yeah?”

“It’s okay to, like, want to step back,” Louis says softly. “You don’t have to be grateful and positive every second of the day. Wanting to escape is probably the most normal thing I can think of.”

He’s quiet for a moment, probably thinking. He purses his lips when he looks at Louis. “Thank you.”

“Absolutely.”

“And you’re gonna escape with me? Until you’re tired of me?”

Louis smiles, turning off his bedside light. “Absolutely.”

This isn't an inconsistency, but you might find it interesting nonetheless. During the Houston con in 2016, Jared launches into a story about eating sour lemons with Gen while visiting the Amalfi Coast in Italy between European conventions, in response to a question about the most romantic thing he's ever taken his wife on. I've always been struck by Jensen's facial expressions during this story, almost like he's remembering it happening... It's on youtube, about 25 minutes into the panel.

WELL WHEN LIFE GIVES YOU LEMONS

first i gotta say that yeah jensen’s face is very sweet when jared tells the story, im sure it was a nice moment for them and he also gets that pensive face like he’s remembering, you’re right

now i hope you’ll excuse me because im about to elaborate a bit more on this moment

so i found this vid and this one

and basically jensen doesn’t give a fuck as usual and hets are the fucking worst as usual

like literally, that girl asks her question “i was hoping that each of you can tell us about the most romantic date you’ve ever taken your wives on” and first we got the audience “awing”, just disgusting (where is that gif of jared gagging when you need it??) but the real IMPORTANT thing here is jensen’s reaction!!!!!!!!!!! JUST LOOK

HE’S FUCKING EYEROLLING AS SOON AS THE HET ASKS HER QUESTION!!!!!!! OH MY GOD he’s so fucking DONE honestly just look at the video, you’ll see

pics from the other angle (i couldn’t make a gif because the person is shaking, too bad) before and after the question is asked:

he’s so fucking done!!!!!

like what the actual fuck is wrong with hets, who the fuck comes at a convention about a show to ask actors about their personnal lives?????

and it’s even worse since you’re asking closeted gay guys to make up fake stories and making them even more uncomfortable because they have to lie!!

anyway

im also really annoyed because look at all those gifs, look at them!  all those gifs were taken from this video but it has been deleted!!! im so frustrated!! because it seemed like a better angle and with this vid i think we could have had a better look at jensen’s eyeroll!!! aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahh!!!! if anyone has saved it, make gifs of this moment please!!!

BUT WAIT IT’S NOT OVER YET

after the questions is asked jensen rolls his eyes but jared makes a joke so people laugh but jensen isn’t done showing he’s annoyed so it goes:

jared: i can’t tell you the entire story

jensen: why not we’re already going down that road (while making this face)

he’s not joking there, he’s done with those hets

and that reminds me of a video where someone asked them for a story about their kids (it was right after they had the first babies) and jensen already didn’t have time for this shit and he says something like “oh that’s it, there’s no more questions about the show, after 9 seasons, now the babies are more interesting” and people were laughing because those dumb hets can’t fucking see that jensen was seriously annoyed, they don’t understand his sarcarm, just like here in houston, they’re laughing without seeing he’s annoyed, just ugh

and then after that they don’t say anything for more than 10 seconds, nothing, just awkward silence because they have to make up some bullshit stories to answer

so jared obviously uses a moment he had with jensen and says something very genuine which makes it look authentic, and notice how he starts by saying that his story applies to all types of couples and saying that the unscripted moments are the most important and he says that one day “gen” told him “if you buy me flowers on valentine’s day and then nothing till the next valentine’s day then you can shove your flowers up your ass” and excuse the fuck me but that’s jensen talking there (and you can see him nodding a lot while jared was saying it lol)

and then he talks about not wanting his personal life to be scripted like it is during work so what they do is that they go on walks. and excuse the fuck me but how could you go on walks regularly since you’re most of the time in vancouver and gen in the US?? oh i know because those walks are with jensen!! and i can totally see j2 going on walks after work together to relax and bound as a couple rather than just as coworkers just like that moment at the beginning of the show when jensen showed jared a nice spot to eat during wendigo or dead in the water. and then jared tells the story in italy because that’s the only place where gen could have also been, during those bearding trips, and just tell me how am i supposed to believe that gen would eat a lemon raw???? are you fucking kidding me jared???? if she had been there she would have rolled her eyes and dismiss him for stealing them just like she dismisses him when he’s being his goofy self. so yeah that’s a total j2 story and yeah see the gifs at the top for jensen’s sweet smiles

and jensen’s answer is amazing!!! because he doesn’t even bother to make something up, he’s like “yeah yeah the unscripted moments right” and then he just said that it was the honeymoon!!!! he says “we really hit it on the head with the honeymoon” “that was one of the best romantic times” and yeah jensen said the best romantic times he’s had with danneel was the “honeymoon” where FUCKING GINO was invited to and where jensen said at another con HE HAD READ A GOOD BOOK!!! HAHAHAHAHHA!!!! IS HE EVEN TRYING????!!!! you guys remember that?? right?? that con where jensen remembered a book he had read during his honeymoon, that he had picked up because he was FUCKING BORED!!! DURING HIS FUCKING HONEYMOON!!!! where he had “the best romantic times”!!! oh my god jensen is not even trying i can’t believe this omg and meanwhile that dumb audience is howling and squealing like they’re wetting their panties because jensen shared a fake ass story about his fake ass honeymoon just….. it’s so fucking gross uuuuuuuuugh

and notice when he was done with the answer he IMMEDIATELY said a quick “thanks” and moved super fast to the next question!! he HATED that het question omg

it was like that other het question about knowing their “wives” were the ones, and jared was the one to fuck it up and jensen was the one to turn it into a gender neutral answer

so to end what i wanna say sincerely, from the bottom of my heart:

FUCK THOSE HETS. FUCK. THEM.

for putting jared and jensen in those uncomfortable situations all that so they can have their little fantasies and be comforted in their fake beliefs that j2 are straight and could be happy with women

stormears  asked:

Do you know of any resources for "what it's like to live in X environment?" I'm trying to write about a character living in a village in a desert. I've checked your "research" and "resources" tags and didn't find anything that I could use. My google research gives me things like "facts about deserts/tundras/rainforests" but these are more trivia facts instead of how a person has to adjust their life to use/deal with their environment. I want to read about the human experience of living there.

Let’s turn this into a chance to do deeper searches. I don’t know what you’ve already found, but some of the trivia might be helpful later. Don’t discount it when you need to go hunting or gathering for dinner.

Three things before we jump down the rabbit hole:

1. There are indigenous people who’ve lived in climates we Westerners think of as inhospitable for millennia. Focus on people, not climates. (Research both, though.)

2. I’m not going to filter out any results that might send anyone to articles that are culturally insensitive/appropriative/exceedingly white. I haven’t vetted all of them all the way. That part’s up to you.

3. You might want to outline or list the building blocks of the world you want to create so you can focus on those specific topics.

First, make sure you are asking questions in natural, or close to natural, language. Just searching “desert” or “desert life” will probably give you way too many generic articles.

My first search was “what is it like to live in the desert” and actually, the results that looked most promising were some of the related searches all over the page.

That gave me the idea to search for “human inhabited deserts” and that got a lot more promising.

I saw one article, Facts About the People in the Arabian Desert, and it looked like it was meant for kids. But I checked the references at the bottom of the page and found the name of a travel journalist named Ryan Murdock. A few dead ends later, I got to his Articles page on his own website and found a few good links to articles about Jordan and Namibia.

I went back to “human inhabited deserts” just looking for areas/specific deserts/specific peoples and found places like Alice Springs, Australia, the Sonoran Desert, the Kalahari Desert/San people, and the nomadic Tuareg people.

Don’t forget National Geographic. There are articles available online. Hot tip: You’ll need to filter the search to avoid sifting through hundreds of single photographs. Unless you want to do that for landscape ideas.

This looks like a start:

http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2014/07/hejaz-desert/salopek-text

[Beware the paywall … you might need to use a library database. :-( ]

Then I realized I wanted to find other longform journalism articles, so I searched “where to find longform journalism online” and found several promising, free sites where you might want to search for specific articles.

References on seemingly useless articles might be of the best help. You’re going to have to search more than the first page of results a lot, too.

See what other authors have done with the topic. Other searches I dove into:

“books about people living in the desert”

https://timesflowstemmed.com/2013/04/28/top-10-books-about-deserts/

“books about desert cultures” might be good, too.

There’s no guarantee that this is the research path you need to follow, but maybe it will get you started and you’ll find the road you need to take.

Bonus advice:

If you’re looking for desert living in a fantasy/sci-fi setting, I recommend reading the classic Dune by Frank Herbert. It’s a master class in using setting to frame a story (and in fact an entire epic saga).

If spec fic isn’t your thing, then I offer up Willa Cather’s Death Comes for the Archbishop – another novel where setting (New Mexico; the book was published in 1927, so keep that in mind.) is as important as the characters.

Miraculous Young Wizards AU
  • Adrien is a ‘researcher’ type wizard after his Ordeal.  He disappeared for three days during it, and Gabriel Freaked The Heck Out and nixed all public school plans.
  • He doesn’t consider himself to have a specialty, per-se, but he’s really good at streamlining and finding new applications for current spells.  His spell-building and attention to detail is a work of art in itself.
  • His first ‘wizard’ friends are two of the cats who work on Paris’s worldgating team, Plagg and Tikki.
  • They stop by a lot to say hello when they’re not on shift.  Plagg keeps prodding Adrien to use some of those spells he knows to sneak out and enjoy himself a bit.
  • Adrien is eventually convinced, but takes the time to craft a good illusion spell for himself so that he isn’t recognizable.  He knows his jaunts wouldn’t last long if people saw Adrien Agreste wandering around the city and it got back to his father.
  • He starts calling his disguised self ‘Chat Noir’, in honor of Plagg (who often goes with him and educates him on things, that grumpy little black cat really is his best friend at this point).
  • Adrien starts signing the spells he’s worked on as ‘Chat Noir’ as well, wanting to make a name for himself on his own as a wizard, not coast on his real name.
  • Marinette is a ‘field’ wizard, a jack of all trades kind who hasn’t settled on a specialty yet.  She doesn’t have a partner, but her power levels are high enough still that she can handle most things on her own.
  • She gets a reputation for being able to squeak out of any situation against The Lone One by skill, the skin of her teeth, and sheer luck.
  • Other wizards she sometimes work with start jokingly calling her ‘lucky little Ladybug’.
  • Marinette likes the nickname and starts using it.
  • She’s a fan of ‘Chat Noir’s edited spells, the clever little twists he uses to make them more efficient or give them entirely new effects are right up her alley.
  • One day one of his spells ends up saving her life and being the reason she walks away from a confrontation with The Lone Power.
  • She messages Chat Noir to thank him.
  • Adrien has heard of Lucky Ladybug, a fierce young wizard who works alone and somehow always manages to win despite horrible odds.
  • “OH POWERS PLAGG LADYBUG MESSAGED ME SHE USES MY SPELLS PINCH ME.”
  • Plagg is too old for this shit.
  • They start messaging each other a lot through their Manuals and end up becoming really good friends.
  • SO MUCH DISGUISED FLIRTING AND CAT PUNS.
  • Tikki has met Marinette a lot when she’s passing through Paris’s worldgates on her way to the Crossings, and keeps saying she knows this wonderful boy, a very sweet wizard, that she really should meet.
  • That little reddish Bengal is a die-hard matchmaker and the entire Paris wizarding community knows it.
  • Marinette is always too busy and so just smiles and says “Maybe another time, but I’m on errantry right now, Tikki.”
  • One evening while out on one of his jaunts, Adrien gets swept up in another wizard’s errantry.
  • Nothing world-ending this time, the girl is just working on a spell in the park and can’t seem to get it working right.
  • He offers his help, and quickly the spell is up and running.
  • Marinette KNOWS those signature twists and spellcrafting.
  • “Chat Noir?”
  • “WAIT HOW DID YOU KNOW-”
  • But the girl is grinning and her eyes are the brightest blue he’s ever seen.  “My name is Marinette, but everyone calls me Ladybug.”
  • Adrien is panicking a little, not least because OH POWERS HE FINALLY GOT TO MEET LADYBUG AND SHE’S HIS AGE AND REALLY CUTE AND HE DOESN’T KNOW HOW TO DEAL.
  • And almost simultaneously they overhear ‘He’s really cute when he’s flustered’ and ‘She’s so beautiful’
  • And Marinette starts cursing because she knows what THAT means and Adrien is so very confused.
  • So they end up going for coffee while Marinette explains wizarding partners to him.
  • Tikki is smug for WEEKS afterwards when they show up together on Marinette’s next trip to the Crossings for errantry.
  • They end up having to set aside a whole day after that trip just for Adrien to run around the Crossings experiencing everything.

Makoharu is perfect. I've seen a lot of anime, a lot of films and series BUT even if not canon their relationship is still my favourite. Best love story ever and noone will convince me they are not in love

I completely agree with this, Anon. There is a reason my OTP is MakoHaru and that is because in my opinion, their relationship is the most beautiful and loving one I’ve ever seen in any anime, film, series, or even in real life.

I talk about the beauty of MakoHaru a lot with some of my friends, so some of the things I’m going to say here may be their words, but there are so many reasons why I love MakoHaru so much.

One of the things I love most about their relationship is the childhood friends aspect. Most of us have friends when we’re young but usually, as we grow older and develop as human beings, we change and then we find new friends, and old friendships are left in the past for the most part. However, with Makoto and Haru, that’s not the case. They have been together since the very beginning; there are only about four months in Haru’s life when he didn’t was by Makoto’s side, at that was because Makoto wasn’t born yet! They were already together before some of their other friends were even born. And even as they grew up, they always consciously chose to be together. Especially the transition from elementary school to middle school is one in which a lot of friendships dissolve and this could have happened to Makoto and Haru as well because they were not in the same class. But it didn’t, because they consciously chose to stay together. Even after quitting the swim club in middle school, they didn’t stop seeing each other or hanging out together frequently because they simply enjoy each other’s presence so much. It’s always better to be together than to be alone.

Another thing I really love about Makoto and Haru’s relationship is their flaws. Yes, they’re not perfect, but that’s alright because they love each other’s flaws too. In fact, they match so well because they fill in each other’s blanks: for example, Haru has a hard time verbally expressing himself and Makoto knows this and therefore talks for him, which he is always able to do because he can basically read Haru’s mind.

Which brings me to the next point, the mind reading. It’s kind of a running gag in the show and the events, but it’s a reflection of how deep their connection truly is. They know each other so well that they know what the other is thinking based on the way they look and behave. They can read it in each other’s eyes. They are so in-tune with each other’s feelings than they know what the other is thinking. Or, like Kisumi said before, their hearts are connected.

There are so many other things I can name but I don’t think this message would ever end if I did, because there are countless of aspects that make MakoHaru my favourite relationship ever, but because I’m trying to keep it short, I’ll mention a couple of other points quickly: the fact that they are each other’s home; that their relationship is built upon years of unconditional trust, support, and love; that the only thing that truly broke Haru was the thought of Makoto leaving him behind; that Haru went to Tokyo with Makoto; that there is nothing about Haru that Makoto doesn’t like; that, when presented with something beautiful, Makoto will always look at Haru for his reaction because Haru’s reaction is even more beautiful than the thing; that when he’s scared, Makoto will hide behind Haru’s back for protection; that even though Makoto’s fears are irrational, Haru always takes him seriously and wants to ensure his comfort; and that their relationship is so natural: they’ve been each other’s best friends for their entire life and they just love each other so, so, so much.

I have to cut myself off at some point so I’ll do that now. MakoHaru is my favourite relationship ever, my OTP, the ship I dedicate my life to. For me, there is absolutely no relationship that can ever even begin to match up to the beauty and perfection of MakoHaru.

Hi, I've just finished reading Persuasion for the first time, and wondered on your opinion of Lady Russell? I feel she has way to much influence over Anne, thoughts?

I think this is the most hotly contested question about Persuasion in modern perspectives, as well as people wanting to shake Anne in the end where she declares that she doesn’t think she did wrong by listening to Lady R. And (unpopular opinion, perhaps,) I think Anne is right. I trust her and where she’s coming from.

It’s easy enough to say from a modern reader’s perspective that Anne should have stuck by Wentworth and thumbed her nose at all the world for his sake, but that’s just not who she is, or was, at nineteen.

Compared to other Austen heroines in age, then, she would have been only older than Catherine Morland, Marianne Dashwood, and Fanny Price–and of those girls, she is the only one who lacks a mother. (Fanny’s isn’t exactly deeply involved in her life, but then Fanny is always forced to rely more on herself than the advice of those around her because those around her are terrible.)

Lady Russell is not a bad woman, and is not so much a snob that she would see Anne unhappy and alone forever. She is definitely set in place as a mother-figure to Anne, and does her best to give the best possible advice she can for the circumstances.

Consider that Anne and Wentworth’s initial romance was rather rapid, and that she was a very sheltered girl who likely hadn’t entirely processed her grief over her mother’s death and being sent away to a school where she was extremely unhappy. Like, Anne’s adolescence was extremely dark and isolating. She would have only returned home to her family in the last year or two, and Lady Russell’s fear is that Anne will too easily grow attached to anybody who shows her the least bit of kindness and regard. And given that Wentworth at the time has little money, a high risk of being killed in the course of his career, (and from what Lady R can tell, a rather impulsive character, which lends itself well to bravery but less so to staying alive and supporting a wife and family,) and knowing Sir Walter has a poor opinion of the match, what can Lady Russell imagine might be worse than that Anne (and Anne’s children, if she should have any,) might be made dependent upon Sir Walter if she should be widowed, or her husband injured and unable to provide a stable life (as we see has happened to the Harvilles.) Sir Walter’s whining remonstrances would be never-ending about the degradation Anne had brought upon herself and her family by such a connection, and home life at Kellynch would no doubt be worse than ever, and poor Anne sunk even more deeply into a level of grief from which she might never recover.

This, naturally, terrifies Lady Russell. Money and rank may mean little to Anne and Wentworth, but they mean a great deal to the people Anne would have to deal with if Wentworth is unable to provide properly for her.

For a vulnerable girl of nineteen, and a match so swift and reckless, Lady Russell would not be doing her duty as a mature woman with an eye on potential consequences if she didn’t say something to Anne. Anne loved Wentworth, yes–but Marianne loved Willoughby, too. Older women–women who have loved and lost–might understand better that it often does not do to place all one’s faith in a first romance…particularly when it’s a whirlwind.

Is Lady Russell ultimately correct? No, because we know Wentworth will do well in his career and that the love between him and Anne is steadfast. But hindsight and all that jazz. (“It was, perhaps, one of those cases in which advice is good or bad only as the event decides.”) Which is why Anne insists she didn’t do wrongly to listen to Lady Russell. She knew where Lady Russell was coming from. She knew Lady Russell wasn’t being malicious, and that Lady Russell was her nearest and dearest friend–likely dearer to her than any of her living family. She trusted Lady Russell, and she wasn’t wrong to trust her. The moral of the story isn’t “ignore anything you hear from concerned friends who have your best interests in mind”. People are flawed, and so is their advice. Lady Russell is wise about many things, but it just so happened that she wasn’t wise about Anne and Wentworth in this specific case–and none of them could have known that. Lady Russell expected that Anne would mix more in society, meet more people, and perhaps find happiness with another worthy person. (We must acknowledge that the world is not filled with men incapable of rising to the standard of Captain Wentworth.) This would have been the natural way of things, but, for one reason or another–all of them beyond Lady Russell’s control–this never happened. If Anne could have been happy with Charles Musgrove, Lady Russell would have been pleased to at least have Anne settled nearby, and with a ‘safe’ match to a good man, but it is noted that her influence can’t create enough affection where it does not exist. Anne is open to being cautioned, but not encouraged.

And though there’s a rush to condemn Anne and Lady Russell, consider how their conduct is tempered in Wentworth’s own declaration: “But I too have been thinking over the past, and a question has suggested itself, whether there may not have been one person more my enemy even than that lady? My own self.” Two years after the broken engagement, when he had enough money to offer a more stable living, and Anne had had time to consider that perhaps she’d been unwise to yield to Lady Russell’s advice in entirely giving up the engagement, he could have written to her and she would have renewed their engagement. Lady Russell’s advice and Anne’s acting on it caused them both a great deal of pain for two years, but Wentworth’s stubborn fit of pique prolongs it for six more years and possibly forever, until their paths cross again. The power of renewal is all his–Anne cannot reach out to him, even when she wishes she could.

In Persuasion, I think Anne does her best with what she has–which is so very little. Lady Russell’s advice fails her, but not Lady Russell herself, and it’s very much up to fate and chance unspooling over the course of years which prove Lady Russell’s cautions to have been in the wrong. While in Anne and Wentworth’s case we ultimately know that they’re meant to be together…perhaps the timing was just not right for them, before. They both had some growing up to do. There could be no guarantees. Wentworth resents that Anne is persuaded by Lady Russell’s advice, rather than his own–and while we can understand his feelings, consider if a teen girl’s mother today was like “…look, I know you’re in love for the first time, but honestly you can’t tell if these things are going to last, and I’m just not convinced he’s the best person for you, you’re so young and there’s so much more of life to see…” and then on the other side of it you’ve got the Boyfriend saying “what does your mother know? We’re in love, we should just be together and damn the consequences!”

Perhaps I’m getting unromantic in my dotage, but I feel that teen girls might do better to listen to their concerned mothers rather than their boyfriends.

Of course these folks exist in a book and all this stuff is water under the bridge before we even begin to know them, so we have the luxury of judging their past behaviour at our leisure rather than having to live through it, and live with it.

Hi Keaton, I've been writing poetry for a while, reading around during leisure time, and I've tried to incorporate some of what I've learned about poetry into my work, but my poetry still absolutely, tremendously flops. Any advice?

i like to define poetry as the act of taking an abstract emotion and giving it a concrete form. to do this at all is a difficult task. to do it well can feel near impossible sometimes! the fact that you’re showing up and putting in the effort deserves praise. be proud of yourself for trying. i know i’m proud of you.

when it comes to figuring out what makes a poem work, i think the best example is ezra pound’s ‘in a station of the metro.’ you know the one– “The apparition of these faces in the crowd; / Petals on a wet, black bough.” it contains several things that highlight what we find keep us coming back to poetry: brevity, figurative language, and implication.

a defining characteristic of poetry is its economy of language, to say as much as we can in as few words as possible, so we are constantly pulling out our metaphorical paring knives and trimming our poems down to give each word impact. the length of the pound’s ‘metro’ speaks for itself. within the title and two lines, it manages to create an entire image of the parisian subway, one which has struck and stuck with its readers for over a century.

but why does it strike us? for starters, there is its metaphor. the heaving underground crowd gets transformed into a small part of a larger system of nature, petals torn from flowers, small compared to the tree on which they’re plastered, and smaller still when compared to the phenomenon of a rainstorm. bright white and shining against the dark trunk and damp cold of the air.

but the people haven’t literally become flower petals, so what is the language trying to imply here? you picture how these petals are ripped by a past rain away from their parent flowers and how they cling to the branches, and you know that in spite of their fragility, whatever hardships they might face, people are enduringly beautiful. then there’s pound’s use of the word apparition, which possesses a double meaning: apparition as in to suddenly appear into sight as the train doors open, and apparition as in ghostly. this moment is sudden, brief. people move through the metro station and you can see them, but you’ll never know each of them fully. there’s a sense of death in comparing people to ghosts, but then the flower metaphor creates a sense of regeneration. through the distance of a century, the crowd captured in this poem is long gone, and yet crowds just like that one move through the metro every day, are in the metro right now, continuing this cycle of busy, wondrous city life. and a century from now, the crowds will still be there, churning.

'metro’ strikes us because so much is going on underneath its surface. it’s a meditation on the transient, shifting, and awe-inspiring nature of human life. the poem never once takes the time to say this out loud, but the meaning is there, the part of the iceberg under the water, waiting for us to dive.

but this is just an analysis of elements i appreciate about poetry. ultimately my advice to you is this: keep writing. make those rough drafts and take the time to shape them into better drafts. write enough and you’ll find your style, you’ll figure out how to shape images the way you want, you’ll learn how to get that emotional impact. and don’t be afraid to write sloppily. all writing is good writing because it means you brought into existence something that wasn’t there before. hope this helps! all my best wishes for your poetry

Sorry this is a bit late, I’ve been really busy lately so I couldn’t get to this until now. The criteria you set is a little… hard to get a bead on but here’s some fics that (imo) aren’t overly angsty and has pretty independent/my-pace kind of characters, and of course they’re all really good. Dear Endling, I've been a huge fan since I saw your comics on Snafu. I'm struggling, and have been for awhile. Art is my passion, but I don't have the right education to pursue a career in it. I've been unable to find my style, and have been stuck for a year. Do you have any advice on where I can read/study to improve my skills to eventually, find my own style?

This is a question I’ve been asked a lot, but to be honest it never really gets that much easier to answer. Every artist being an individual, it’s tough to find catch-alls that work for everyone, you know what I  mean? And hell, truth be told, I’m still trying to figure this stuff out for myself. :]

Let me get this first bit out of the way, the bit nobody wants to hear: “Practice, practice, practice.” It’s the biggest, stinkiest old chestnut in the book, the one you’ve probably heard a million times before, but unfortunately, it is the most rock solid, time-tested advice any artist can swear by. Even when you feel down and out, even when things don’t look like they should. You keep on drawing, because art has a funny way of growing with you, even if you’re not aware of it.

But try different things. Some personal suggestions:

- Draw from life. Do figure studies. Your art will only go as far as the strong foundation you’ve built on. It can be arduous, but it is worth it. There is no way around this, much as many folks find this the token ‘boring’ advice.

- Look up light and color theory online. Nowadays there is a ridiculous amount of information on this subject on the internet. You could probably cobble together a near full education on the subject just from all the different people who have guides, examples, even youtube videos on the matter. It’s really amazing. There are tons of people out there trying to help young artists get on their feet, and they aren’t charging a thin dime. Take advantage of it. :]

- Warm up before you draw! Draw scribbles, cubes, shapes with some zing to them. Drawing can be a workout! So like any workout, warm up! Don’t dive right in and injure yourself. :] It’s a good way to stave off feeling discouraged because things  didn’t turn out looking brilliant right off the bat.

- Try emulating a variety of other artists’ work. (With their consent if you’re posting it somewhere of course.) Sometimes when drawing in someone else’s style your own little mannerisms and stylistic influences tend to pop up in the result. This is more a fun exercise though, certainly not something to fall back on as a means to improve. You don’t want to end up relying on the same artistic 'shortcuts’ your chosen artists employ in their own work without a firm understanding of the basics yourself.

- Draw quickly, loosely, even carelessly. Less thought, more winging it. Fly by the seat of them pants. Have fun letting go! At least, for a practice run at first. While 'style’ is at best a nebulous concept, I’ve always found that if you draw speedily, you tend to put emphasis in certain areas, sort of feel your hand moving a particular way? If you don’t let too much thought get in the way, you can sometimes see the raw tendencies you have underneath the art.

- Animation! Regarding stuff to read to improve your skills, there is no shortage of books available in places like Barnes & Noble. Entire sections on art. I recommend, personally, books on animation techniques. I was originally an animation major in college, and I think any artist can benefit greatly by studying it thoroughly.

- Draw for yourself, not for the internet. This is a more fairly recent issue I’ve been seeing with some people, but there are folks out there who get a little too attached to the reception (or lack thereof) they receive for posting their work online, or worse still, seem to only draw with the specific intent of putting things online. While it’s all well and good to share your work with other people, please please please do not forget that you are drawing for yourself. You don’t have to post everything you make. Allow yourself plenty of time to make plenty of terrible drawings. Fall flat on your face. You can share the stuff you’d like, but you don’t have to feel compelled to share everything you do.

- Art blocks and burn out will happen. Don’t sweat 'being stuck’ so much. Don’t rush getting OUT of it either. Art blocks are kind of a way of telling you you’re running on empty in one way or another. I’ve gotten asked quite often what I do to get over an art block. The answer is really simple: wait. Haha. But you find things to do that get you feeling charged up again. I like listening to music and playing games. Games are what got me into art in the first place, so it’s kind of a back-and-forth process for me. But what I’m trying to say here is, art and your life are pretty much connected in every way. If your art just doesn’t want to come out easily on the page, maybe you should find something else to do that you enjoy. Refill, recharge, re-energize, but NOT just to get over an art block. Your daily life might be more attached to your work than you realize. Which brings me to my next point..

- Don’t look so hard for 'your style’. You need to grow as much as your artwork. As I said before, style is kind of a strange subject. To most people style is simply 'how your art looks’, what sets it apart from other folks. But if you ask me, style is whatever ignites your passion to create in the first place. Style can be influenced by other art, sure, but it can also be influenced by music, games, sports, books, your background, the things you enjoy, just the person you are from the ground up. Style comes from pouring yourself into your work. And you know what? You need to grow just as much as your artwork. If you put a piece of yourself into your art, it will undoubtedly be unique, because you’re a unique person yourself. Find something you want to say and let it come out through your art.

And yes, that’s about the floweriest answer I’ve ever given on the subject of style. I guess when it comes to the subject of art I can be a sappy sap. But DAMMIT I BELIEVE IN YOU. And anyone else reading this that might have been feeling the same way! And I really appreciate the question! Hell, I’m honored, and hope in any way at all I can help, because art is a beautiful thing to have in your life, and I wish you the absolute best of luck with it.

Now DRAW. DRAAAAAAAAAW, I SAY!

I've only been on tumblr for 2 years and i haven't heard of any of those memes, except the listen here cum slut. Would you mind explaining the other four please?

ok so i got like 8 messages asking me to explain all the memes i mentioned in my top 5 favorite tumblr memes post. so here we go. keep in mind that y’all asked for this. i cannot be blamed for what is about to happen.

1. obviously i have explained the “listen here cum slut” meme previously, and you can find a link to that explanation here.

2. i’ve also explained no, it’s someone dying under an MRI scan.” (honestly this post was under-appreciated and i’m 100% serious when i say i want this meme to make a comeback.)

3. so that brings us to “Spiders Georg.”

I honestly don’t know why i love this meme so much??? but i fckng do ok listen……

Spiders Georg is a tumblr meme that originated in January 2013. it started with a text post made by tumblr user reallyreallytrying about the often repeated statistic that the average person swallows a certain number of spiders in their sleep every year (some say 8, some say 3)

at first, the spread mostly focused on the idea of a fictional spider-eating cave-dweller named Georg, but then by June it had gradually developed to encompass other iterations in the following form:

“‘average person [insert action] x times a year’ factoid actualy just statistical error. average person [insert same action] 0 times a year. [name based on action/media] Georg, who lives in a cave & [performs action] over 10,000 each day, is an outlier adn should not have been counted”

example:

4. did you learn that in bird school, which is for birds????

this meme originates with a screencap of youtube comments posted on tumblr in june of 2012.

this quickly became a copy pasta, frequently used when having a fake argument or when a user said something that another user did not agree with. people even made shirts.

most of the time the middle part (“because here in the real world we dont dare use the h word”) is cut out, so that the response reads:

“did you learn that in bird school, which is for birds???? im a lawyer.” or even just “did you learn that in bird school, which is for birds????”

i honestly still find myself defaulting to this a lot. in real life. like if one of my friends has an Opinion that i do not give my Seal of Approval or states a supposed fact that i do not believe, it’s almost instinctual for me to just go “did you learn that in bird school, which is for birds????”

5. extra hour in the ball pit

fuck. honestly………this is one of the best memes that has ever been spawned by this smelly armpit of the internet. it’s just….. 😙👌

this truly deserves a post to itself tbh. i may make an entire meme history post about dashcon eventually. but not now.

basically the ball pit meme originated with something called “DashCon,” a convention “for tumblr users, by tumblr users” that occurred in 2014.

by all accounts, it was a total fucking disaster. it was such a massive disaster that it has its own wikipedia page. please. do yourselves a favor. read the entire thing. i cannot possibly describe what a shitfest it was both comprehensively and concisely in this post unless i really want to drown everyone in a gigantic wall of text. here is another article about all the shit that went down that is absolutely worth the read.

but (one of) the biggest controversies that occurred during DashCon was that they neglected to compensate the vast majority of their guests (despite a last minute fundraiser at the con that raised over $17,000).

the cast and crew of the popular podcast Welcome to Night Vale was one of the groups that the DashCon organizers failed to pay. when they arrived at the convention and learned that they would not be paid in full prior to their appearance, they left. WTNV was probably the single biggest draw and most anticipated appearance for the convention, so this resulted in a huge backlash. in response to that backlash, the official DashCon tumblr made this now infamous post:

their compensation for the people who had reserved seats for the WTNV panel was…….an extra hour in the DashCon ball pit. which. i will remind you. looked like this:

obviously this was some Prime Meme Material. i mean……….look @ that fuckin shit. look at that sad deflated ball pit (that someone claims to have pissed in, by the way) in the midle of a sad, empty convention hall. it would be sinful not to meme that.

this meme came in two primary forms: mocking the phrase “extra hour in the ball pit” and mocking DashCon and the ball pit itself by using pictures of the sad, empty ball pit to represent the complete and utter failure of DashCon as a whole.

here are some of my personal favorites (includes a few choice crossover memes)

i would apologize 4 the sheer length of this post but honestly you should expect this from me by now ✌

whenever you have time/energy for it, could you talk about headcanons for if hera somehow got a physical body? no rush, just wanna know what you have to say on the matter

(not quite sure whether this is headcanons or a ficlet? or whether it’s at all what you had in mind? but boy, do I have Thoughts about AIs and their relationship to humanity and Hera in particular, and that comes through here.)

  • Hera’s first concern when they start talking about making her a body is that she wants to design it herself.
  • it isn’t that she doesn’t want a body. and it isn’t that she doesn’t want to be able to engage in the kind of comforting physical socializing all of her friends use their bodies for – she really, really wants to finally high five Eiffel, for one thing.
  • (he started leaving handprints on the Hephaestus’ monitors within a month of the day they met.)
  • but Hera knows what kind of shape they’d think of for her – not maliciously, she knows they love her, but it’s like the words they didn’t give her, the mind they did – they only ever conceptualize one shape, one kind of body, one way of being.
  • Hera doesn’t want a body so she can be more human, doesn’t want to be a pretty little android. she doesn’t want a body that proves that she’s just like all of them, because she’s not. Hera wants a body that makes her more Hera.
  • it does not need to move or look like anything human beings have referent for, although she pulls inspiration from everything from plants to animals to industrial engineering (anything she thinks seems cool, honestly; she confesses this to Eiffel but would never admit it to Minkowski, and she’s not lying when she tells Renee that she has a coherent functional and aesthetic goal. and she’s quite proud of it, in the end). Hera does not want a body so she can be a person (she knows she is already a person); Hera wants a body to do the things she can’t without one.
  • she is so hungry for experience, for seeing and feeling and doing – now that the station is no longer a part of her, now that so much of her mind and identity are not occupied with a million calculations and routines and consciousnesses keeping the Hephaestus running, now that she finally gets to decide for herself what she wants to do – she realizes she wants to do everything.
  • Hera’s body is built to house any sense they could think of, all that freed-up processing power devoted to every kind of experience - vision in spectrums beyond human comprehension, as many tactile sensors as they could cram in, temperature, electrical impulses, electromagnetic waves, even taste, of course taste, she has spent almost her entire life listening to her best friend describe food, like she would miss out on that entire slice of what the universe has to offer
  • and she thought space was full! she never understood how it could be called a void, called emptiness – but suddenly it makes sense why people would say that, because even with the limits of a human body, there is so much – this world is so much, every square inch of it, and just going fifty feet down a street is such a kaleidoscope of incredible things. it is awe-inspiring and disgusting and painful and amazing and beautiful and she is full of wonder at it.
  • (there is so much in this world that she is the first person ever to know. there are so many experiences so intrinsic to life here that no one thinks about them and that she is feeling and wondering at for the first time.)
  • people do not generally find it a comforting body. hera doesn’t care; she didn’t build it for them, and her friends don’t care, either, and that’s all that matters. she has an emotional body language of her own which Minkowski can read as easily as her own humanoid shoulder shrugs and eyerolls. Doug does not seem at all to mind sitting back in his apartment, propped up against her humming-warm metal side as he dozes in front of the TV, as long as she has all the right appendages to give him a hug.
  • (Lovelace will walk down the street next to her as naturally as though she was any ordinary human being in the world; and Hera’s senses can easily read the tenseness, like coiled springs, in her step as she does. but she also knows there is nothing defensive there, only a fierce pride, now, in both of them, for knowing and deciding who and what they are. daring the world to try and tell them differently. Hera and Lovelace understand each other really well these days.)
  • and it’s nice, she finds, nicer than she expected, to be able to stretch limbs and feel the brush of textures and the weight of physicality and think this is mine. this is me. it is something she could never feel with the Hephaestus, which was always neither her body nor something she simply piloted, but frustratingly in between. there’s comfort in this clearer delineation of what is and isn’t Hera, in her own right to decide what shape that space takes.
  • hands, she tells them, are very useful for doing all kinds of things, as humans prove, and were an obvious choice to include in her design.
  • (they’re good for high fives, too.)

Hey, I'm really sorry to bother you and I hope I'm not out of line but I just read your newest post about your stomach and I'm curious... Do you have any idea what's wrong? See, I've got something similar and for the last year and a half I've been living on rice, chicken and the few veggies that don't make me sick. I've lost a third of my original weight, but all the doctors I've gone too have no idea what's wrong! Which is why I'm asking. I hope I'm not out of line and I wish you the best day!!

Not a damn clue. My diagnosis currently ranges from “you’re overweight try losing weight” (no longer valid since I dropped fucking 20lbs in a month and likely wasn’t valid for most of my symptoms to begin with) it’s “just” IBS (a chronic condition unto itself which too few people including doctors seem to realize and dismiss as non life impacting simply because it’s “common”) leaky gut caused by allergies (previously thought to be celiac but repeatedly tested negative for) chronic GERD (somewhat more under control than it was to the point when I am off my meds which worsened the other symptoms) vocal chord dysfunction (previously misdiagnosed as asthma which before that was misdiagnosed as purely anxiety when in fact the reason I was panicking was because I couldn’t breathe) “it’s just anxiety” (which yes I have anxiety, but I’ve realized a LOT of it was being caused by allergies causing a near constant adrenaline response so that was fun. Nice to know I was on sedatives as a teenager because no one bothered to listen to me when I said eating XYZ hurt), hormonal problems (despite my hormones always being “normal”), and last but not least “I mean, it could be fibromyalgia or an autoimmune disease, your symptoms are kind of hard to pin down”. That latter part being a direct quote from a doctor.

I’ve also had severe issues with my teeth, which since I have switched to a holistic dentist, have largely been resolved. (Still in pain, but every time he does something my health bounces up a notch so it’s a process I’ll be working with him toward fixing over the next few years. He even suspects I might have been getting mercury poisoning from some seriously dangerously over the limit leaking amalgam fillings I got in my early teens. He’s also the only dentist willing to remove my root canal teeth because they’ve never fully healed.)

So. Yea. I have some of my own possible theories that it might be SIBO which many doctors here in the US seem reluctant to even admit is a real thing (my current dr certainly doesn’t and will not test for it despite it being an easy culture test to do) and some possible genetic fuckery/immune system bullshit. Both my parents are extremely ill people with very similar issues, my dad even has an autoimmune disease he doesn’t care enough to even remember the name of so I can’t just narrow the field and test directly for that. Thanks dad.

The difference between me and them is I am actively trying to get a diagnosis and claw some semblance of health/sanity back before I turn into a hermit resigned to dying young.

A big thing for me seems to be allergies/intolerances which have sprung up in the last few years. (Rice is the first thing doctors recommend for eating “plain” food but it’s actually a huge trigger food for a LOT of people) Eating only organic seems to have helped (suggesting a preservative allergy, which my allergist just kind of said “I believe you, but there’s no reliable test for it so just…don’t eat them”)

Which is where you find me at now, two years down the rabbit hole of trying to get an accurate diagnosis. As for asking questions, it’s entirely okay to ask questions. I’ve pretty much wound up documenting my chronic health issues because a) it was helping me to keep track of things and then b) my blog got popular due to shenanigans and then a bunch of other people started going “HEY ME TOO” and we’ve created a sort of exhausted support group for each other and also c) the number of people who message me on a daily basis to tell me it helps them to know they are not alone is just…I’ve cried twice today at some of the messages I’ve gotten, and at the time of typing this it’s not even noon.

I do not mind being public with any of this because gods help me if someone can figure out some small puzzle piece of their life from me falling apart then in some small way it will be worth it. Cause I know what that feeling is like. And I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. Chronic health issues are so incredibly isolating.

So yea…next step I’m off to see a natruopathic/functional medicine doctor (yes I made sure they are licensed physicians and not just crazy hippies) in the hopes that she might have some answers for me, or is at least willing to listen to me, which uh, yeah, the more you refuse to accept suffering to be your way of life, many doctor’s don’t seem to appreciate. I had my GI doctor tell me I shouldn’t google my symptoms and just accept the fact that the meds he prescribed for the chronic GERD would dissolve my intestines which, hahahahah, ha. No. I do not accept that. Not even a little bit.

How good is my Si? well I'm not really friends with details and I often hear "you need to be more coherent and rigorous but I've been raised by a Si dom mom so I have a certain routine reallyflexible but still there, I was thinking about customs and I just go with the one I like or understand but don't care about the others. About Ne, is overanlyzing everything to the point of obsessing more a Ne dom or Ne aux thing? Someone talked to me about the aux "overkilling" comapred to the dom

Ne-doms suffer from two major problems aux-Ne’s don’t:

The tendency to skim read and then assume.

Ne-doms don’t take the time to carefully read and comprehend information; rather, they skim as they look for information that pertains to them, or what they are interested in, which means unless they really buckle down and decide to learn something completely (Si), their knowledge of said subject will be based entirely in speculation, without grounded awareness of facts, principles, or deeper understanding, which would come from detailed studying.

You see this a lot in the MBTI community, with high Ne’s that have not slowed down to learn about the functions, how they interact with one another, how to tell them apart, and so on – they go on to either mistype dramatically on a frequent basis (because they don’t know MBTI, but their Ne makes them think they do; a broad understanding is not a thorough understanding), or they make up their own system (Ne) and claim it is MBTI, when it’s not, which leads to:

Grand generalizations without specifics.

Again, this is evidence of a lack of Si details and knowledge base. Because a Ne can make it sound like they know what they’re talking about even if they don’t, they tend to generalize to an enormous extreme, and their details will be way off, because of hyperbolic tendencies. Details are hard for them to remember but grand generalizations work, because they are totally vague, semi-open to interpretation and above all, melodramatic (which Ne likes).

You see this with me sometimes in typing characters; even if I’m sure this is their type, it’s hard for me to give specific examples of a thought process or behavior that indicates cognition, so I resort to vague generalities like, “He sees lots of possibilities,” or “All her choices are to get her somewhere,” instead of “When the oil tanker blows up, he immediately switches his original plan from X to Z based on the new information,” or “She uses the internet to target the people she doesn’t like on a hate-list, which she then spreads among the student body, as part of her plan to eviscerate her enemies and become class president.”

See, even that is a bit vague and generalizing. =P

My INFP friend is not like this. She is meticulous when life demands she use Si and remembers details, specifics, etc., much better than I do; she is not nearly as prone to melodramatic hyperbole for effect, except when it directly ties into her Fi-feelings (and then it is MELODRAMA), whereas I exaggerate all the time. She can often be shockingly specific, whereas I’m delighted if I remember to use the word “mastiff” in a novel instead of the vague generalization of “dog.” (Look, reader! I managed to add a specific sensory detail! And it was hard, so be super impressed right now, okay??) Meanwhile, she would go on to tell me, if she cared, what year the breed was created, where it came from, etc. Details.

Define over-analyzing; because I consider that Ti in my understanding of it, but others consider it “intuitive in general.” If by over-analyzing you mean you’re obsessing over what type you are, that’s just human behavior. If by over-analyzing you mean you can’t let anything go without making an intuitive inference about it (she said this, but she meant that, and this is probably what’s going on in her life which made her think that way) that’s intuition in general.

The best way to tell a Ne-dom from an aux is – does the Ne stop there?

Permit me to explain.

INFP and I hold the same moral views. Both of us stand on those principles. She would not under any circumstance violate them, nor can she imagine a situation in which she might. This is Fi directing Ne: this is out of bounds, says Fi, and it stops here.

Ne and Fi are a whole other ball of wax. I routinely assert my views, then start an alternate argument in my head. I may or may not believe that, on a daily basis. When push comes to shove, I will probably stand upon that Fi morality, but Ne isn’t blocked by Fi; Ne is still considering possibilities, challenging my views (are you sure about that?), and going down rabbit trails, unhindered by that pesky moral viewpoint. After all, everything exists in the abstract, so why not consider whether or not your morals would stand or not?

For Ne-doms, nothing is blocking the flow of information (both what is there, and what’s happening behind the scenes; they are perceiving it all, continually) – there is no introverted function “bias” coming into it, so they will be the most open-minded and most inclined to change their mind rapidly when given new information, without needing to stop and access their Fi/Ti. Since Ne is so nebulous and unfixed, nothing is ever “set” in a Ne-dom’s mind; this makes it very easy to change their mind, their views, their opinions, their focus, their approach, etc., without needing any time to re-calibrate their processing. Since Ne is dominant, it’s instinctive and immediate in a way that doesn’t happen for Ne-auxes.

This both makes them able to be extremely perceptive and accurate (IF they can accumulate a detailed knowledge base from which to operate to go with their Ne) AND prone to detachment from reality in some instances – but in a way, since they are so attentive to the outside world’s visible and unseen patterns and picking up on people’s intuitive tells, they can be more grounded than the INXPs in terms of “what is actually happening,” because the INXP has to work through a self-based perspective first (Ti/Fi).

This is what makes people see Ne-doms as “scattered,” or “inconsistent,” but in reality it is a strength that can be channeled in positive directions, if the Ne-dom is willing to do the research, study, and self-educating required to discipline themselves into being good at what they do. This will go against their nature; it seems too slow, the information too tedious, with too much to remember, but much like the NJ types, if they do not slow down and learn, if they do not, for example, really stop and study the functions in depth, they will be poor typists, for themselves and others.

Can you do Beauty!MC x TheBeast!Jumin? I know this idea has been around for a while but I've honestly never seen any work about it.

I got super into this request, actually! I said a while ago that his route was a lot like BaTB and I’ve always thought it was interesting that the original BaTB was mostly about marriage, more specifically addressing the fear young women had of being married to strange men…especially when taking into account that Jumin’s route (thematically) is also about marriage. I tried to mesh the best of both into this story. Jumin and MC are not a literal beast and a young woman trapped in a cursed castle. MC is a new bride in a new marriage and she and Jumin are very unsure of one another. Also I took a lot of inspiration from the original Villeneuve version of the story. I’ll shut up now. I just really love fairy tales I did one of my degrees on fairy tale adaptation

EVERYONE AT OVERWATCH IS HOT. A THESIS.

ALRIGHT KIDDOS SADDLE THE FUCK UP.

We have now officially reached the drunk enough to say shit you ort notta said part of the evening. And we have so many new people showing up, and said to myself, damn self, there are so many pretty people showing up tonight. And then I realized why: it is because LITERALLY EVERYBODY HERE IS ATTRACTIVE

I am not making this up. When objectively removing existing friendships and awkwardness and social niceties and power imbalances and general Reasons It Is A Bad Idea, I would most definitely bang everybody in this building.

So naturally before making suhc a statement I needed to double check the entire roster. And make sure I wasn’t leaving somebody out or making someone feel bad. Or anything like that, because even if I didn’t want to bang you all I still almost entirely like y'all and don’t want to cause no hurt feelings. We’re still a family and I still love you okay? But I went down the whole list and. I was right. Literally. Everybody. At Overwatch. Is like 100% bangable. Some over 100%.

For the purposes of this I am leaving Bastion and Orisa off the list. Because Orisa is a youngun and probably doesn’t have a grasp on such things yet and Bastion seems to be like… three? Four maybe? Mentally? I mean given that we just had to explain porn I think there maybe issues with the concept of sex, much less consent. But it’s definitely not just an omnic thing, as you will see.

So look. We’re gonna go straight down the fuckin list and I will Mathematically Prove This To All Of You.
