and this is me trying to make a quality graphic about it

anonymous asked:

If you have the time and if you don't mind, what are some books you really recommend? Doesn't have to be all time faves, but anything that pops into mind that you want more ppl to read and love, Extra points if lgbt+ , i got the whole summer with little to do and i wanna spend it reading some good quality writing and honestly so far your recs have introduced me to so many faves its unbelievable

[blushes profusely] oh wow, thank you!!!  i’m so glad you’ve trusted me enough to check out some of the stuff i reblog; that is like the ultimate compliment, i can’t even???  i don’t mind at all(!), fair warning though: i only started recording what i read partway through last year and my mind is like a sieve so i’ll do my absolute best to remember what’s sang to me in the recent past.  warning number two: i’m in an open relationship with absolutely every genre out there so i’ll try to note which belongs where so you can avoid those that hold no interest for you.

  • i’ll give you the sun.  i loved this book, the writing is fucking transformative and all the characters are so damn likable, while still being realistically flawed human beings.
  • the raven cycle (tetralogy).  definitely my favorite series since harry potter.  the writing, the world-building, the characters, it’s all on top-form.  i wrote a little, mini non-spoilery review of it: here, back when i was better (worse?) wordly-wise and my feels were brand new.
  • more happy than not.  i’m still not sure how i feel about this book.  it was hard, but it felt very true to the characters and the lingo and style matched the ages of the players and i have a lot of respect for that.
  • the watchmaker of filigree street.  woooow i loved this book.  i admit ‘historical fiction’ kind of makes me cringe.  it never precludes me from reading a book but it does knock it down the list by a book or five because they’re often very dense and very clunky and end up taking me ages to get through.  but this one was gorgeous.  i loved the plot, the attention lovingly placed on every character and the historical elements.  the surprise gay in an already brilliant book felt like winning the lottery honestly.
  • captive prince (trilogy).  okay, truthfully, i’m only putting this on here because the second book is such a high point for me.  it was never bad at any point but it had unfortunately been hyped far too much for it to live up to my, admittedly, very high expectations.  hopefully it’ll fare better with you?
  • everything i never told you.  i go back and forth on this one.  i like the writing a lot, i like the LGBT aspect a lot, and i like the mystery aspect a lot but there are definitely characters i would cut out entirely for sheer predictability if i could and that killed a lot of my enjoyment at the time (but i think much more highly of it in retrospect?).  so, take that as you like.
  • aristotle and dante discover the secrets of the universe.  if there’s a book that handles its characters with more care or respect or consideration then i haven’t run into it.  i love the way this is written and the people it’s populated with.
  • flying lessons & other stories.  a bunch of uber talented authors writing a bunch of uber diverse and LGBT-focused stories and, yes, that is exactly as awesome as it sounds.
  • the song of achilles.  it is utterly heart-breaking but so rich, honestly.

  • the diviners.  (also has a minor LGBT character, who may play a bigger role in the sequel?)  fair warning, i have not read the sequel, lair of dreams, because it is somehow still not out in paperback (yes, i read physical books, yes, i pretty exclusively read paperbacks so i can lug them everywhere with me, YES, I PRE-ORDERED THIS ALMOST TWO YEARS AGO AND IT’S STILL NOT OUT, NOT THAT I’M BITTER ABOUT THAT OR ANYTHING) so i can’t speak to that one finishing on a high note as i don’t know.  but this was the first historical novel i managed to like in a long while.  it does such a good job of fusing in 1920s lingo and dress and aspects that i couldn’t help but love it.  add in the fantasy elements and i can admit i’m the perfect sucker for it.
  • the scorpio races.  i’m not sure why but it took me a long-ass time to get into this book, i wasn’t flipping pages with gusto until well towards the end but - especially as i was reading so much YA at the time - i really appreciated coming across a romance that lets both people come into it as themselves and stay themselves, neither puck nor sean were ever smashed or crumpled or shaved away to fit into their relationship, which was so refreshing.  plus the water horses were fucking cool.
  • the night circus.  the writing, the atmosphere, the circus.  just… it is all very whoa.
  • all the birds in the sky.  i loved this writing style and these characters and the magical elements.

  • i’ll meet you there.  there was something about this and i just… ended up liking it way more than i expected to.  i might’ve just read it at exactly the right time, i’m not sure, but i really enjoyed it.
  • the invoice.  this is honestly just hella cute and so freaking surreal.  swedes, man.

  • why not me?  i like mindy kaling a lot.  i make no apologies for that.  plus you can read both her books in about five seconds, haha.

  • station eleven.  i loved this book.  the way the narrative is woven is so refreshing and i wish the comic book miranda was writing in this book was a real thing more than anything else in the woooorld.
  • illuminae.  hot DAMN this book was cool.  the plot was rock solid, the characters were hilarious and badass and the graphics made out of text and spiraling words and just the way this thing is put together?  shit, it’s worth your money and then some.
  • a robot in the garden.  okay this is just cute as hell.  i can’t even with tang, he’s the most adorable robot to ever adorable.
  • annihilation (southern reach trilogy).  (LGBT minor characters.)  okay, honestly?  i don’t know.  this was freaking zany but i was invested as fuck in all the kookiness for reasons i can’t articulately elaborate on.
  • the martian.  hilarious, engaging, SPACE.  what more do you want?

  • things we lost in the fire.  this is more atmospheric than anything but, damn, could this get me wishing i wasn’t reading this in the dark or looking over my shoulder to make absolutely sure no one was standing behind me.  it’s a book of short stories (by the way, i love books of short stories and i definitely realize that is not true for everyone) and each one is so well-delivered and stylized.  i really enjoyed reading this.
  • let the right one in.  okay, this is legit horror so definitely stay away if you’re easily squicked out but it is harrrrrd to find good horror (at least in my opinion) and this definitely, definitely qualifies.
  • horrorstör.  i honestly had such low expectations for this, a horror story set in a wannabe-ikea, but it ended up being so ridiculous and strange and funny that i was won over by the finish.
  • the girl with all the gifts.  holy unique and well-executed zombie idea, batman!

  • the bigness of the world.  there were definitely ones here that hit better than others but the ones i liked, i really liked!

GRAPHIC NOVELS (i read a lot of these so, um, prepare yourself)

  • saga.  (LGBT minor characters as well.)  this is world-building to a degree that i’m convinced did not exist before.  just, i can’t say enough amazing things about this series and the staggering amount of imagination that regularly goes into it.
  • ms. marvel.  heart-warming as fuck.  it’s definitely really easy to lose faith in the world these days, luckily kamala is there to remind you that people are primarily and genuinely good.
  • black science.  this is another one that took just an insane amount of imagination to cook up.  i got off to kind of a rocky start with this one but the gray-ness of all the characters really speaks to me, and that doesn’t really blossom until later in the series.
  • spider-man/deadpool.  this was very satisfying for my super duper spideypool-shipping mind.  joe and ed did us so good, and joe basically said in his sign-off: i made it absolutely as gay as they would let me, haha.
  • the wicked + the divine.  (LGBT minor characters that you’re going to get way too attached to, and retroactively.  it’s awful [sobs].)  the concept for this, gods reincarnating into teenagers before they burn up their hosts after a predetermined set of time, is so fucking cool.  the humor and the characters and the plot is all just aces.
  • iceman (LGBT MAIN CHARACTER).  okay, so this just started.  like issue #2 was only released days ago but 1) i am liking it so far and 2) marvel did it so dirty and barely advertised bobby - an openly homosexual superhero - was getting his own series, like, i found out about it the day before it went on sale and i keep my ear fairly close to the ground (not as close as some BY A LOT, but closer than the lay person i’d say) so if you can support it, please do!  pre-orders mean a lot in terms of numbers. :))))
  • descender.  admittedly, this starts out rooough.  because the main character, TIM-21 (and his little dog too), are annoying as hell.  he’s an android so there’s no dimension to him so he’s booooring as all get out but i am so glad i stuck with it through to the next trade because, probably picking up on the unsustainability of him as a main character, he gets shuffled off and the side characters get the stage and they rock so hard.
  • paper girls. (LGBT main characters.)  i’m kind of just convinced that brian k. vaughan can do no wrong at this point.  his plots are so tight and mind-blowing and badass.
  • monstress.  here’s a little tid-bit about me: female comic book writers are 100% more likely to get my money and my time because they are so damn rare and this series is unique, badass, and eye-opening.
  • black monday murders.  i’m a little premature with this since there’s only one volume and i usually try to wait until there are at least two but i check up on a volume two a lot so that definitely means something intrigued me!
  • nailbiter.  okay, i haven’t read the final volume yet ‘cause i’m reluctant to let it go but, so far, a series about multiple serial killers all being from the same town has me VERY HOOKED.

i wish i could remember more but this is honestly way better than i expected to do, haha.  they’re definitely not all my all-time faves but they’re ones that have stuck with me for one reason or another and that i didn’t feel i wasted my time on, so that’s something, right?  i hope this helps get you started and that you don’t think too awfully of me when you inevitably run across ones that aren’t your cup of tea!

I think almost every time I’ve written a situation where I planned for a character to get killed off, when I thought like “well what if I didn’t do that” the prospect of them just dying seemed like the lazy way out, or something I was just writing because “that’s how stories like this go”.

Like, years ago when I thought I was going to be on an extended hiatus I was planning to do a MGDMT graphic novel that had nothing to do with video games and just focused on the original super soldier characters. Mostly the idea was the same theme, Macho Action Dude Reacting to Movie Tropes Like A Reasonably Normal Guy, so it was gonna have all the motions of those same old conventions, but play out differently. At one point the idea was “the girlfriend character dies and he has to deal with it like an emotionally believable person and not a larger than life action guy”. But when I thought about it, that didn’t sit well with me, because even if it was trying to comment on a trope, it was still “female character gets killed for no reason other than the male lead to have a character arc about it” and that rubbed me the wrong way. So I thought, okay, what if she still gets kinda messed up, so they build her some cool robot parts and she’s like Shit Yeah! This is the best! And she thinks it’s so rad having robot parts it kinda throws off the course her life was going down because suddenly the idea of being Robocop seems a lot more exciting than nesting with her high school sweetheart. And he doesn’t have to go have emotions about a dead girlfriend, he has to learn to come to terms with someone he was very close to having a life experience he can’t exactly empathize with that put her on a road to becoming the person she’s decided she wants to be, but not the person he ever planned on her becoming. So his arc is sort of dealing with the grief of a lost hypothetical person, and learning to respect her autonomy to make decisions that he might consider “a bad idea” but improve her quality of life as she wants to live it. Which, in the end, felt like a lot more of an interesting story than “the girl dies so the main character can have emotions about it. But I only got to that point by recognizing the original idea was stale and racking my brain to do something different.

I guess what I’m saying is, when I see professional TV writers get excited about what a twist it is that they kill a beloved character in something to shake up the snowglobe so to speak, I can’t help but think that they fell into that rut of thinking “this is the convention I have been trained to attach to this story”, and didn’t even stop to think there may have been a more interesting and unique route they could have gone. Intrigue comes from giving the audience something they don’t expect to see. It’s easy to think that killing a character for shock value suits that task, but that’s become such a normal device to throw out there that it doesn’t surprise anyone anymore. It’s always worth at least considering what would happen to the story if you didn’t just go down the first path that came into your mind, because the first will almost certainly be the most well-trodden with the least surprises along the way.

RPG Maker Fever Undead and Deranged

Warning:This article may contain spoilers and the content inappropriate for children…or may not contain. But get the children away from the screen just in case.

Good morning! Or is it already evening? Meh, as if it matters…cellar, where I’m chained and writing my articles  is pitch-dark 24 hours per day. So, today we’ll learn how to make friends, control the undead and have a happy dream ( with some experimental drugs involved). Now then, shall we get started?

1. 1bitHeart

Alright, here goes our first title, made by the author of Alice Mare and LiEat series. 1bitHeart is an adventure game, where your goal is to make as many friends as possible . Game plays similar to Ace Attorney series, but with some QTE-scenes, while setting and atmosphere is kinda similar to TWEWY.You can make 49 friends in total, all of them have unique appearance and personality. Plot of the game is pretty good, dialogues are well-written and sometimes hilarious. Besides, every dialogue has it’s own mood supported by stylish well-chosen music track and quality voice acting. Additionaly I want to praise 1bitHeart’s presentation, since  both artwork and sprites are extremely beautiful .

2. The Boogie Man

And here comes the Boogeyman, the Boogeyman comes for me. Here comes the Boogyeman, he’s gonna take me in my sleep…Nah, actually not. Here comes the latest installement in our favourite  the Strange Men Series. This time with the fully voiced in-game cutscenes (and skippable as bonus). The Boogie Man stays true to series and plays like classical horror-adventure with action cut-ins. At some point of the game you can even play as our old friends -David and Sophie, but new protagonist Keith is quite notable too (he’s my personal fav to be honest).Overall the game makes very good impression, the story is interesting and dialogues are bright and entertaining (with many references to previous games).

I’m not the sensitive type, but  even I was kinda hesitant to play this game at first, since it has waaay too many suggestive content, supported by quite a lot of graphic violence. But after beating it I can state that this game is totally drugtastic. END ROLL plays like quality role-playing game and somewhat reminds the wild mix of the Gray Garden and Re:Kinder, but with better story-writing and gameplay I believe. Game has plenty of  unique dungeons (all of them has some plot-related meaning behind it) as well as tons of optional content, which along with well-designed and interesting characters make END ROLL very enjoyable.

4. Guuzen ~ Ningyou no ito

What? Don’t tell me you’ve never heard about the rite named “doll’s prayer” .You’ll forget all of your worries and  path to the Heaven will open before you. But the place, our heroines’ve found themselves in, can be hardly called Heaven. I wasn’t expecting much from this game, but it turned to be quality horror with beautiful character designs, memorable soundtrack, logical puzzles and surprisingly mature story. The game reminds us that we’re often starting to value something only when it’s already lost.Sadly, right now  Ningyou no ito is only available in chinese, japanese and russian.

5. Liar Jeannie in Crucifix Kingdom

Yet another full-fledged role-playing game has made it to my list. And kinda tough, I must say. Imagine what if Dark Souls was the turn-based RPG with cute nun as protagonist and you’ll get Liar Jeannie… more or less.Unlike many RPGs, this one doesn’t  have any levels, and your stats and basic skills fully depend on your current equipment (by the way, every item in this game can be equipped). A special mention is deserved for game’s bosses - there’s a few main bosses and a lot of optional ones -all of them have their own battle tactics and require some thinking before acting ( especially Pleiades Knights-you want to defeat them, trust me). Also, if things during the fight will become real ugly, you can always summon expendable monsters as your allies (or living shields, heh).

6. At the Tale End

Here we have a game, which looks like a regular fantasy-adventure, but only at first. Plot includes our standard party of heroes (fighter, mage, priest and thief), cursed princess and battle with the local dark lord. But each of these elements plays very different from your typical fantasy stories. At the Tale’s End is definetely a unique experience, a role-playing game in it’s original meaning, without countless random battles, but with a certain weight of responsibility for your actions within a narrative. Also this game has detailed and interesting world as well as quality animated cut-scenes.

7. Pocket Mirror

A long-awaited Pocket Mirror has been finally released this year. And I’m amazed with  enormous amount of work made by the  team of developers. When it comes to game’s graphic, Pocket Mirror is stunning. Beautiful artwork and memorable soundtrack help to create this mysterious, unique atmosphere of dark fairy tale. And with that Pocket Mirror has some gameplay issues. You see, while some puzzles are interesting, most of them is quite uninspiring, some of the locations are pitch-dark and hard to navigate. And with that plot of the game is quite complicated, but doesn’t make much sense,if you don’t pay close attention to numerous in-game notes and letters. This game is definetely not bad,but still leaves some feeling of unpolishness.

8. The Maid of Fairewell Heights

Despite the fact that story of the Maid takes place at the haunted apartment complex, this game has no horror elements. Maid feels more like comedy anime straight from ‘90s. Gameplay (along with main character’s outfits) varies depending on the room your’re currently exploring. Starting with regular cleaning you can end up playing detective or running the shop. Game has bright illustrations, good humour and overall is pretty good.

9. Libretta

I’m sure everyone knows that beside translating games vgperson also makes their own, and Libretta is one of them..This game  definetely gives an interesting experience. While playing similar to Ib, Libretta has it’s own unique atmosphere and somewhat complicated plot, where everyone can find something for themselves (or so I think). Libretta has memorable soundtrack and interesting puzzles, requiring some thinking from the player Also playing shirigories between chapters is kinda fun.

10. Imaginary Friends

Imaginary Friends is a classical rpg-horror-game with quality visuals, well-thought puzzles and some minor chasing scenes. While story lacks originality, it’s still interesting to follow, since charactrers are nice and game has several endings. Game is about 3 hours long and leaves mostly positive impression. So, if you like old-school rpg-horrors-be my guest.

11. Red Trees

While having some minor horror elements, Red Trees stays warm and relaxing adventure game with humorous and ironic view on horror genre and quite unexpected ending in a way. Graphic style of the game and whole atmosphere of a local town is somewhat reminiscent of Mother series.Gameplay is quite simple and consist from few “find-and-bring-to-the- right-person” puzzles, which can be easily solved in 30 minutes or so.

12. The Stairway

Like Red Trees this game is also recommended for players, who’ve already tired from jumpscares, explinct content and overthinking bizarre puzzles. This game has simple yet nice story, unique visuals and some easy logical puzzles. So, if you want to neatly spend 30-40 minutes of your time, try and climb The Stairway to see what’s awiting you at the very end.

13. Friendship

The most fitting description for Friendship would be “horror for the beginners”, since it can surprise or startle you only if you haven’t played any other rpg-horrors before. In fact Friendship doesn’t stand out much compared with better quality school horrors ( like Misao or Amayado Bus Stop ).But it doesn’t mean that the game is bad-Friendship is a good way to spend 30 minutes seeing how strong attachment to a friend can turn simple game into yandere-horror.

14. By Ourselves

And here comes our closing title about two former classmates, who’ve found themeselves trapped in the room. Game is only 10 minutes long and basically is one big locked door puzzle. You find the first hint and then successively exploring the room for the way out. Game has two endings determined by how much attention you’re paying to your comrade in distress.

we pick ourselves undone by laramara
Summary: It might appear that award-winning surgeon Tony Stark, the head of neurosurgery at Shield Hospital, well and truly has his life together. Now if he could only figure out how to tell people that his father, world class neurosurgeon Howard Stark, is locked away in a nursing home with Alzheimer’s, devise a way to get Chief Fury off his back for good, and work out what the hell he’s going to do about the weird on-again-off-again thing he has going with the head of cardio, he’d finally have everything sorted.

When Natasha was finished, he asked, “So you’re telling me that Steve’s been missing for almost two months, most likely kidnapped by an unknown organization, a force which employs two brilliant but completely crazy scientists that hate Stark Industries because they were refused jobs on the basis of their psych evals, and I’m only hearing about this now?”

Summary: Things are disappearing around the helicarrier and the Avengers discover something lurking in the shadows.

Blow Out by xaritomene
Summary: The Avengers are stuck in a cave, and Tony, despite being essentially incapacitated by the loss of his suit, has a working plan to deal with this shit. So what if his team thinks he’s only useful in the suit? And so what that they’re not in life-threatening danger, the kind that Loki strews around himself like confetti? Tony is going to get them out of there by hook or by crook, because goddammit he hates caves, and no one else is coming up with a better plan. They’re not in danger now, but time is running out. And if Tony has to damage himself to pull off his plan, well, them’s the breaks.
Incidentally, Steve doesn’t like it when Tony’s damaged. (Or: Stand back! Tony Stark’s about to try science. Dangerous, self-sacrificing science.)

Anti-Virus by marinarusalka

Under Armor by trilliath (@trilliath)
Summary: Tony’s a little tiny bit entirely stuck in his suit. But who needs the jaws of life when you have a Super Soldier on hand?

@whore4batfam mentioned that Jason would have missed out on Disney movies, and I couldn’t let that pass, so, it is 12:16 AM and here we are.

Damian finally finds him sprawled on one of the many, many couches that decorate Wayne Manor. There’s a book he’s probably read a hundred times in one of his hands, the other occupied with spooning Dick’s stolen cereal into his mouth.

The spoon stops halfway to his mouth and there’s a guilty smile on his face, betrayed by the mischief in his eyes.

“Don’t tell Dick.”

“Do me a favor and I will not.”

Jason seems to ponder that for a second before shrugging, “Shoot.”

Damian clears his throat, suddenly unsure of how to approach the topic before deciding to simply get straight to the point.

“Todd, certainly you’ve noticed that the rest of endless band of children Father seems to be adopting,” he receives a raised eyebrow and an amused smile for that, “are prone to making…references.”

Jason’s eyebrow arcs higher and Damian is left to question the limits of the human anatomy.

“You’re gonna have to be a bit more specific, shorty.”

Damian thought back, “…Last week, when we were in the cave and Father had just finished outlining the mission. He said ‘Let’s get down to business,’ and Brown and Grayson simultaneously screeched, ‘To defeat the Huns.’ Father had the same look he had on his face when he caught you and Cain trying to see how many of his ties you could hide in odd places before he noticed.”

Jason laughs aloud at that, looking extremely proud of himself, “Yeah, that was a good one.”

Damian raises his eyebrow, though somehow he doubts it has the same effect his older brother’s seems to have.

“Anyways, they’re referencing Disney movies, I think. I asked Tim about it once and he more or less told me that Dick and Steph have a cult like obsession with colorful children’s movies featuring catchy songs, talking animals, and overdramatic villains.”

“You’ve never seen them?” Damian asks, confused. He would have thought Jason would have enjoyed something like that.

“Wasn’t around when they came out,” Jason says, flippantly enough that Damian almost misses it.

Wasn’t aroun-oh.

Suddenly, Damian feels like the largest idiot in the world. How could he not have had the foresight to maybe, ask one of the siblings that had used the references in the first place, why hadn’t he connected the dots-

“Stop thinking so hard, baby bat.”

When had Jason gotten up?

“I, um-”

He’s cut off when Jason tousles his hair, a casual smile on his lips. The young bird is too stunned to protest. Instead, he looks up at his brother and does what he’s always done best. He observes. There are bags under Jason’s eyes, a fading bruise on his shoulder, his hair is wet, and something about him is so, so tired.

“Yeah, Dami?”

“Get some sleep.”

Jason chuckles as he walks towards the stairs, Damian quietly putting his cereal bowl in the sink and picking up his(Jason’s) book to take his place on the couch. Now to wait for Tim.

Tim looks up, certainly not surprised at being accosted within seconds of walking through the front door. The look on Damian’s face is one of determination; he will not stop until his objective is reached. Tim sighs.

“At least let me take off my shoes.”

“So let me get this straight. You asked Jason about Disney movies, only to find out he was…gone when they came out, felt horrible, and now you want to watch them with him, but are hindered by the lack of your ability to Internet?”

Damian wishes Barbara was visiting.

But then Tim breaks into a smile and there’s something incredibly…tender about it. Damian thinks this won’t be too bad after all.

Jason looks up. It’s been a day or so since Damian had inquired about one of their siblings’ many strange habits. He supposes he should have been more subtle about the whole thing, but what else was he supposed to say? ‘Oh yeah, sorry Damian, I didn’t see Mulan because my corpse was being submerged in the Lazarus Pit?’

He had, however, taken his younger brother’s advice in getting some rest. In fact, he had just woken up from a particularly nice nap, and had been planning to go and hunt for Dick’s last cereal box. Thieving aside, he waits for Damian to speak, seeing the boy looking expectant.

All he receives for his patience is a ‘follow me.’

Sighing dramatically and ignoring Damian’s ‘Tt,’ Jason drags himself from the covers and straggles after his brother, curious as to what his intentions may be.

Upon arriving in the same room Damian had found him in the day prior, Jason is, to say the least, confused. Moreover, he finds, he won’t have to go on a cereal-thieving scavenger hunt, as it’s already sitting on the coffee table in one of Alfred’s less precious ceramic bowls.

“Damian? What’s going on?”

Said preteen defender of Gotham and his Honor(Jason may not have been around for Disney, but he and Dick had sure as hell marathoned Avatar at least eight times), was struggling with what looked to Jason like an HDMI cable. Succeeding in connecting it, Damian fiddled with Tim’s laptop for a few seconds before setting it down carefully and practically tackling Jason to the couch.

Surprised, Jason yelped as they tussled on the couch, turning his head to the screen just as a soothing jingle played, accompanied by a graphic of a blue castle and the word, ‘Disney’ written in a circular font.

“…Damian?” He looks over to the smaller body sprawled against him to see him looking away, ears turning red.

“..I wanted you to watch them. I wanted to watch them with you.”

Jason stares for a moment before a soft smile overtook his features.

“Okay,” he says, and settles down against the armrest, grabbing a handful of cereal and leaning against his baby brother as ‘The Little Mermaid’ appeared on screen.

Dick drops by the Manor to find his cereal on the floor and two of his siblings locked in a fierce argument.

“Mulan was clearly the best, she literally defied all gender stereotypes and learned how to fight as well as Li Shang in like, three days. Also bonus points for talking dragon and grade A catchy songs.”

“Ridiculous, Todd, Aladdin was obviously superior. The poor street thief with a heart of gold and the rebellious, self-aware princess? Not to mention the flying carpet, genie, and quality displays of villainy.”

They’re interrupted by a devastated scream, the two boys at last becoming aware of Dick’s presence.

Dick gazes up at them with a look of incredulous horror, “How could you?!”

Jason blinks. Damian stares.

How could you do this to my cereal, you heathens?!

Two pairs of eyes land on the mess of sugary breakfast food scattered on the carpet.

Shit.” That’s Jason.

“Thank you, Jay, for reali-”

Did we break Alfie’s bowl?!

Damian pales, vaulting neatly over the coffee table to search for the ceramic piece that could spell their doom. Dick is forced to watch as his two brothers scramble about the room, ignoring the remains of their pilfered meal on the floor.

“Found it!”

Jason triumphantly holds up the bowl, chipped slightly, but still in one piece.

Dick wants to know why it was behind the couch.

Unfortunately, the other two residents of the Living Room of Horrors seem content to set the bowl to the side and resume their places on the couch, resuming where they’d left off in ‘Snow White’, having broken into an argument when Damian voiced his preference of Aladdin.

“I hate you both,” Dick, about to storm out of the room, is interrupted by Cass’ entrance to it. She looks to the screen, currently displaying the seven dwarves, before picking a piece of cereal off the ground and popping it in her mouth. Dick’s horrified expression goes unnoticed as she goes to squish Jason’s cheeks.

He sticks his tongue out and she replies in kind, before moving to Damian’s other side and cuddling him, the youngest of them content to be sandwiched between his brother and sister.

“Dick, why are you calling me, it’s 4 pm on a Saturday I would like to be not awake right now.”

“Steph, I can never watch ‘Snow White’ again.”

So earlier today I got rather pissed off when some rude anon who has probably never made a GIF in their lives decided to attack my friend (and one of the best GIFmakers I know) for no reason telling them not to talk about GIFmaking like it’s a big deal since it’s just taking clips from existing video. I was hoping to forget about this, but I couldn’t stop thinking about how many non-GIFmakers really do think that’s all GIFmaking is (including myself before I started making GIFs to some extent). Luckily, most people aren’t that rude about it and know not to insult content creators over a topic they actually don’t know much about…but I still feel the need to discuss some of the often lengthy effort that goes into making medium to high quality GIFs.

As a disclaimer, I’m NOT trying to be elitist and I honestly don’t consider myself one of the top tier GIFmakers. I also don’t think that GIFmakers HAVE to put in a lot of effort to alter GIFs from the original video frames if they don’t want to. It’s just a hobby where we try to capture/highlight cool moments using a severely limited and dying file format lol…so it’s really up to the individual how much they wanna put into it. However, the truth of the matter is that many GIF and graphics makers that contribute greatly to numerous fandoms DO put in a significant amount of effort to make their GIFs look different from and better than the original video.

!!! I didnt know you liked documentaries! i loooove them and im always looking for good true crime ones. would it be too much to ask if you could recomend me some good documentaries you like? <3

this is the hardest but the best question ever. i’ve been musing over it for the last several days, and i finally just decided to sit down and make out a list. this is by no means a complete list, nor is it a ‘best of’ list. just some that i wanna rec because i think they’re awesome. or at least, the subject is fascinating, and so the annoying narrator/bad quality/etc is worth enduring. let’s go!

♥ autopsy (tv series) - if you have hbo go, it’s better to watch them there because the quality is a lot better, but this is a link to a youtube playlist of episodes. autopsy is a show about (you guessed it) autopsies, but each episode is themed and focuses on several interesting stories about deaths/murders where the cases were solved through forensic evidence found during the autopsies. michael baden is the forensic pathologist who has done several of the autopsies, and he’s the host of the show. i could watch this every single day for the rest of my life. (expect lots and lots of gore)

♥ paradise lost: the child murders at robin hood hills - another thing i watched on hbo go, but here’s a link to a yt vid (there are two other parts to this doc; they should show up in the related videos to the right). this is the story of the west memphis three and the murders of three little boys in arkansas in 1993. it’s a fascinating, heartbreaking, and unbearably frustrating story about the conviction of 3 teenage boys for those murders. there’s another doc called west of memphis that documents the events that occur after paradise lost concludes. i think west of memphis is my favorite of them all. god, what a fucking story. (graphic crime scene photos and video of three little boys.)

♥ mommy dead and dearest - i just watched this doc today on youtube, but hbo already found it and took it down. SO! you can watch it on hbo/hbo go, but because it’s so new, i doubt it’ll be anywhere else for a good while. it’s the story of dee dee and gypsy rose blancharde, a mother and daughter in a toxic, manipulative relationship that is one of the worst cases of munchausen by proxy ever documented, and one that ends in murder.

♥ thin blue line - a doc made in 1988 that digs into the wrongful conviction of a guy named randall adams who ends up on death row for something he didn’t do. it set a precedence for the importance and influence of crime docs. because of this documentary, the case got reopened.

♥ the keepers - another new doc, but this one’s on netflix. it’s a docuseries that follows the story of the murder of a nun, sister cathy cesnik, in 1969, and the unbelievable sequence of events that lead to it. this doc has pedophiles, sociopathic priests, police cover-ups, and a tireless group of retirement-aged women, some of whom are survivors of rape and abuse by the aforementioned priests, who will not rest until sister cathy’s killer is caught.

♥ the witness - on netflix, too. i talked about this one in my last movie post, but it’s the journey of a brother to try and understand what happened the night his sister, kitty genovese, was murdered in nyc in the mid-sixties. it’s absolutely fucking heartbreaking.

♥ cropsey - (i hope this link works??) this is a doc about a boogeyman urban legend on long island. the reason it’s interesting is because the doc is made by two kids who grew up on long island hearing the story, and there’s a really interesting story about an asylum that gets unearthed while they dig around. this guy also made a doc called killer legends which talks about urban legends and the true crimes that may have inspired them. both are really good.

♥ who took johnny? - another one i’ve already recced, but i wanted to put it on this list because it’s a good one. it’s about a boy named johnny gosch who went missing in the early 80s and was never seen again. the pov here is mostly with johnny’s mother, who is still searching for her son. it’s so heartbreaking. </3

♥ most evil (tv series) - i loveeeee this series. dr. michael stone is a psychiatrist who has a ‘scale of evil’ from 1 to 22 where he places different murderers for various reasons, including mental illness, history, and motive. each episode has a theme, and i could seriously watch this show every day forever and ever and ever. <3

♥ karla homolka & paul bernardo aka ken& barbie killers - these two. jesus fucking christ. paul was a serial rapist before he even met karla, and together, they murdered at least 3 girls, including karla’s little sister. the most insane thing? karla basically gets away with it. i can’t watch enough about these two. they’re so fucking horrible.

♥ the black dahlia, aka elizabeth short - okay, i’m in love with betty short, so i’m gonna link to a bunch of docs about her. i don’t have a favorite, and there isn’t one that i would consider definitive. i wish there was more out there, and i wish there was a good doc that had a good budget and a lot of care taken in its creation, but alas. so here are a few docs that at least give you some good info, crime scene pics, and theories:

one | two | three | four

(please come talk to me about elizabeth short. any time. ask me anything. i love her.)

♥ luis garavito aka the beast - ohmygod. luis garavito. colombian serial killer who has admitted to the rape/murder/torture of at least 140 boys, though it could be closer to 300. there have been mass graves of his victims uncovered. what blows my mind is that this happened in the nineties.

♥ just melvin, just evil - disturbing and sobering doc about a viciously sadistic, horrible pedophile who ruined the lives of so many children in his family. the lives of all his victims were forever changed and ruined by a single man, and what makes this doc so special and painful is that you get to witness them confronting him when they’re grown.

♥ david parker ray, the toy box killer - if you haven’t heard of david parker ray, omfg, are you in for a story. this guy. he built a torture chamber in a trailer outside of his home and kidnapped, raped, and tortured women for years in it. and it all takes place in a tiny place called truth or consequences.

♥ there’s something wrong with aunt diane - a documentary about a car crash in 2009 that resulted in the deaths of 8 people, including 4 children. the events leading up to the crash and the mysteries behind what went on in that car just before and during the crash itself are just… so, so bizarre. a really interesting doc. (graphic crime scene photos at the end)

♥ the boneyard: leonard lake and david ng - just… the story of how the police even found out about these two in the first place is so fucking amazing. what comes out of the ensuing investigation is just staggering. these two fucks tortured and murdered at least eleven people, probably more. and you won’t believe what it takes to get one of them brought to justice (and what happens to the other one).

♥ wild child: the story of feral children - feral children are one of my very, very favorite topics to research. i’m endlessly moved and fascinated and inspired by stories of them. this is a great doc that touches on several instances of foundlings and gives you some names to rush out and do research on and find more docs about. there isn’t enough out there on feral children. not even close.

♥ theresa knorr - okay, i watch a lot of crime docs. a lot. very, very little shocks or phases me at this point. but this woman? holy fucking shit. theresa knorr stuns me. there’s something about women serial killers that fascinates me, and i think it’s that most of them know their victims intimately or are related to them somehow. knorr is the worst. the. worst. what her children have to endure before they’re murdered is unspeakable and beyond what even my warped brain could imagine. my god.

♥ mary vincent (lawrence singleton) - this is a link to an episode of a show called ‘i survived’ which has two other stories on it, one that’s kinda boring and the other which is almost as astounding as mary’s story. but mary’s story is just… astonishing. she was fifteen when she was picked up as a hitchhiker and raped, dismembered, and thrown over a cliff. and she fucking survived. i love her. i want to hug her.

♥ catching a monster - peter scully - GOD. this fuck. peter scully is the most horrifying human being i’ve ever seen. his story is ongoing and not finished yet, but this doc talks about what he did and how he was finally arrested. scully ran a pedophilic red room/film studio where he tortured, raped, and murdered children for rich people who paid him to do it and film it. just. yeah.

♥ kidnapping of elizabeth smart - mindboggling. just… not only how she was taken, but also why and what happened while she was gone. and how she was found. stockholm syndrome is another thing that fucking fascinates me, and i wish this doc had focused more on that aspect of the story, but i understand why elizabeth is reluctant to discuss it. anyway! such an interesting story.

♥ the murder of james bulger - james bulger was a 2-year-old boy from merseyside who was brutally murdered by two 10-year-old boys. the violence they inflicted on this kid, and the way his body was found is just… a nightmare. there are two docs on this murder that i’ve watched and find interesting in their own rights, so i’m gonna link to both:

one | two

(after you’re done watching these two, look up the two boys who murdered him and see what they’re up to now. one of them will stun you.)

♥ aileen wuornos - gonna end this with the lady dearest to my heart. i feel such an incredible amount of sympathy and heartbreak for this tragic woman. her life story is almost unbearable, and the journey of her lifelong abuse by men, the series of murders she committed, and how she found love somehow in between all of it will stay with me forever. there are two wonderful documentaries on aileen, both by nick broomfield, and together they tell the whole story, leading up to her execution:

the selling of a serial killer

the life and death of a serial killer

this is by no means a (complete) list of my favorite true crime cases! but these are some that i love a whole lot. i hope you find something you like here! ♥

A little known fact about me is that I have a slight, possibly weird, obsession with fonts. So today, I went and checked out and looked at literally hundreds of fonts and downloaded a bunch and wanted to test them out, so I decided to try a few of them out on a few pictures that Mark posted on his various social medias today.

*** I know these are nothing spectacular ***

They’re probably crappy quality on account of the ‘not exactly high quality but they were fine enough try stuff out on’ apps that is used, and because I’m not insanely creative or talented, but all this is totally fine. I know they’re subpar but I just thought I’d share them instead of letting them sit and be useless in my iPad camera roll.

On a real note though, I really enjoy making things like these. I used to make (much crappier) things like this a few years ago, but kinda fell out of it for a while… this kind of thing, and similar things, are what I hope to really get better at, and I’m really hoping to go to school for graphic design as soon as I possibly can.

But anyways, I always write too much in these caption things lol which I doubt anyone reads anyways. And that’s chill - I know I tend not to read long posts haha but anyways, if you did read all this, thanks! That was real neat of you.

I hope you have a real nifty day :)

I Want To Save You--Spider-Man: Homecoming Imagine

Hi guys! It’s been a really long time since I’ve been active on here, my life is crazy and I haven’t really had the urge to write anything. However, I’m back with this little number and I’m so happy with it. I absolutely adore this movie and Tom Holland and I’ve wanted to write something for this universe for a while and I finally got the inspiration to do so last night. I’ve seen this movie three times already and I love it more and more each time I see. A disclaimer, I have nothing against Zendaya as Michelle, I just didn’t particularly like her character and I’m not sure if it was the way she was portrayed, but I’m hoping they give her more character development in the next one. If you guys have any suggestions, please feel free to leave me a message! (:

Peter, it literally says right here, insert part A into—“

“—okay and I’m telling you, Y/N, that it doesn’t look right—“

Batting the instructions you were waving in front of his face away with a frustrated scowl, Peter snatched the halfway completed section of the Lego Death Star you were building, a piece that you spent almost a half hour carefully piecing together in order to ensure that you were putting it together correctly. However, Peter’s grip wasn’t all that delicate and the section snapped into the thirty tiny pieces it started as, bringing you right back to square one.

“Way to go, Parker,” You huffed, annoyed, picking up the pieces and beginning to reassemble them, again, but not before shooting him a disgruntled look.

Peter at least had the decency to look sheepish, his brown eyes wide and apologetic. You sighed, rolling your eyes, but you couldn’t stop the corners of your lips from twitching into a small smile, your annoyance with him immediately melting away.

However, you weren’t gonna tell him that

It only took you a few minutes to assemble all thirty pieces, before you handed it back to Peter, who handled it with a bit more care than the last time. You watched as he attempted to place it where he thought it should go, despite the carefully detailed instructions that were now crumpled up and tossed into the corner of his messy room. The tip of his tongue peeked out from the corner of his lips in concentration, his furrowed brows quickly melting back into frustration scowl when when it still wouldn’t fit.

You sighed, “Peter, they gave us instructions for a reason, not for them to be balled up and tossed aside like an old candy bar wrapper. If it belonged there, it would fit and you wouldn’t have to—“

He cut you off with a shout of victory as the small section snapped onto the not even half way finished Death Star with a small click and Peter shot you a smug grin.

You simply rolled your eyes, “Of course, only Peter Parker could correct a toy company that has been around for decades and has been selling this particular set for years—“

Peter laughed, “Oh c’mon, Y/N, when you’ve been building these things as long as Ned and I have, you learn that the instructions are merely suggestions and should be treated as such.”

“You say that like it’s something to brag about,” You teased, “seriously how many times have you guys built this thing?”

Now it was Peter’s turn to roll his eyes, “Oh please, Y/N, this isn’t just a Lego Death Star,” he said with a level of seriousness that was both sad and adorable, “it’s the Limited Edition Lego Death Star set that comes with Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker and two different sets of Light Sabers—“

His voice had become more animated the more he spoke, his excitement on the subject turning his normal talking speed into more of his familiar rambling quality he got when he was passionate about something. His eyes were almost shining from the amount of enthusiasm and passion he had about this half way built contraption and all of this just from legos.

As usual, you found his level of dorkiness cute and one of the many things you loved about Peter. He was completely and wholeheartedly himself, from his closet filled with varying amounts of t-shirts with math and science puns on them, to his Star Wars posters in his room and in his locker at school and his love for comic books and graphic novels and school and random knowledge that he absorbed like a sponge. He never hid his interests from the outside world and he never pretended to be someone he wasn’t simply to fit in. He was brave and pure and just so inconceivably and inherently good, in a way that you wished you could be.

The blank look on your face must’ve put a damper on his enthusiasm, because he simply sighed, like he couldn’t understand why he was still friends with you.

You gave him an apologetic smile and he rolled his eyes again, “I knew I should’ve asked Michelle to do this with me, she at least understands what I’m talking about.”

It was meant to be teasing, but his words stung in a way that you knew he didn’t mean for them to. While, admittedly, the amount time you knew Peter paled in comparison to that of Michelle and Ned, you still thought that you were closer to Peter than Michelle was. You had nothing against her, at all, you liked Michelle. She was witty with her dry humor and wicked smart and seemed to always know when someone needed something, with that observant way of hers. She saw people, almost to the point of it being uncomfortable if you weren’t used to it and she had a quiet passion about things, from politics to books.

But Michelle kept people at a guarded distance and sometimes, you didn’t like the way she treated Peter and Ned. Some of her jokes you thought came off a bit harsh and unnecessary and while they seemed not to faze Peter or Ned, they did bother you.

Maybe you didn’t understand their relationship and maybe it was because you liked Peter and you knew, deep down, you weren’t good enough for him the way Michelle was. For all of her rough edges and scathing remarks, she was just as smart as Peter, her GPA almost neck and neck with his. She had the same interests and while they had a relationship that you didn’t exactly understand, you could see why they would fit together, opposites attract and all that.

And you? Well, the only reason you got into Mid-Town was because your father wasTony Stark, billionaire, genius, Iron Man and a founding member of the Avengers. You learned from a young age that people only ever cared about your last name and who your father was and while you weren’t by any means stupid, you weren’t the science prodigy your father was. And if it wasn’t for Peter, your B in Chemistry and Physics would be nonexistent. He tutored you almost every day after school in either the library at school or his cramped kitchen table in his equally cramped apartment in Queens.

You’d never asked him to come over to the Tower in your years of friendship, not out of embarrassment or lack of trust in him, but because you were embarrassed by the wealth that oozed from the place. You never wanted Peter to see you as some rich snob who lived off of her father’s seemingly endless fortune and status. You loved your father more than anyone on the planet, but the amount of gifts he showered you with were borderline ridiculous and you never wanted Peter to see that side of your life. Peter’s aunt worked two jobs to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table after uncle Ben died. Peter struggled for everything and you wanted for nothing.

“Oh,” you mumbled, “I see.”

Peter’s eyes widened in horror, guilt flooding his dark irises and he groaned in embarrassment, “Oh god, Y/N, I didn’t meant it like that,” he rushed to explain, “I just meant that you’re not interested in this stuff and that’s completely cool, you know and Michelle really isn’t either, but she just gets it, not that makes her better or anything—“

“It’s okay, Peter, I get it,” you said with a strained smile, not meeting his eyes and instead, you gathered your things and made to get up from the hardwood floor, your back giving a twinge of discomfort from sitting for so long, but it was overshadowed by the amount of hurt that was squeezing your heart in a vice like grip.

“Wait, Y/N, don’t go—“ Peter said, hurrying to get up, his hand reaching out to grab your elbow but you pulled away, shrugging your backpack on to your shoulders.

“It’s late, Peter,” you said softly, glancing down at your StarkWatch—the first of it’s kind and not even available on the market yet—and to your utter humiliation, you couldn’t even read the numbers from the tears blurring your vision, “my dad’s probably wondering where I am.”

“It’s only eight and besides, your dad’s in Sokovia for the meeting about the Acco—“ Peter protested, following you out of his room and into the small kitchen.

He stopped short when you spared him a glance over your shoulder, your hand reaching blindly for the door knob, blinking through your tears in order to see him clearly and you gave him small smile, but by the look of complete guilt on his face, it came out as more of a grimace.

“I’ll see you at school tomorrow.” You said, completely disregarding his previous statement, trying for a light tone but it came out flat and before your tears could fall, you opened the door and ran down the hallway.

“Y/N, wait—“

You ignored his voice carrying down the hallway and just ran, not even bothering with the elevator and taking the stairs instead, which, probably wasn’t the greatest idea you’ve ever had, considering your tears were coming in full force now and you could barely see an inch in front of your face let alone to be able to see wether or not your feet were even landing on the stairs.

You made it somehow without tripping and breaking your neck and you burst through the apartment doors and out into the quiet streets of Queens. You ran until you couldn’t see Peter’s apartment building anymore and you slowed your pace to a walk, the chilly December air making you wish you remembered your jacket.

You weren’t sure how long you walked for or even where you were going. you contemplated calling Happy to come get you, but when you looked up, you didn’t even recognize where you were. A inkling of anxiety began to settle into your stomach, but you ignored it, trying to keep calm. Patting your pockets, you tried to find your phone, so you could GPS your way to someplace familiar and more open, but you were coming up empty.

Forcing down the anxiety that was beginning to feel more like panic, you reached around and unzipped your backpack, digging around inside of it, hoping that maybe you had put it in there in your haste to get out of Peter’s apartment. A chill ran down your spine that had nothing to do with the cold New York air and you felt a prickling sensation make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Your fingers brushed against something smooth and familiar, but before you could figure out what it was, you saw a flash out of the corner of your eye and then a hand settled on your shoulder, making you jump, your backpack falling out of your grip.

“Well what do we have here?” A gruff voice whispered menacingly, spinning you around and slamming you up against a nearby alley wall.

You winced when your head bounced off of the frozen brick wall, a small whimper leaving your suddenly dry lips.

It was a man, looking to be in about his late thirties, early forties, wearing a ratty old sweatshirt and jeans with holes in the knees. His dark hair was covered by a black beanie, his pale face red from the cold, his eyes a glacier blue and they were frigid cold as they looked you up and down suggestively. He was tall and well muscled and panic rose in your stomach when his grip on your shoulders tightened.

“What’s baby Stark doing in this part of town?” He asked rhetorically, his breath reeking of stale alcohol and cigarettes.

He ran chilled fingers down your cheek in a twisted caress, “What’s with tears sweetheart?” he cooed and you jerked your head away with a grunt, glaring at him out of the corner of your eye.

“Get off of me.” You said through clenched teeth.

He chuckled, “Oh, you’re a feisty one,” he crooned as you struggled against his hold, his voice sickeningly sweet and bile rose in your throat when his hand traveled down to the hollow your throat, where he squeezed.

“What are you gonna do sweetheart? Scream for your daddy?” He grinned maliciously, “go right a head, he’ll never hear you all the way in Sokovia.”

With a growl, you raised your knee in a move Natasha had taught you in her many training sessions and you knew you connected when your attacker let out a grunt of pain. His grip slackened from around your throat and you used that to your advantage, shoving out of his hold and trying to run, but you didn’t get very far. You had spared a look over your shoulder, to see your attacker clutching between his legs with a face twisted in a mixture of rage and pain.

“You little bitch!” he snapped and you couldn’t help but grin in triumph.

Your victory, however, was cut short when you collided with a solid chest, hands wrapping around your forearms as if to steady you. You gasped, an apology on your lips but when you looked into dark eyes glinting with same amount of malice as the man currently writhing on the ground, that’s when all the previous pride left your body and panic settled like lead into your stomach, your blood running cold.

“Not so fast, sweetheart,” the man, shorter than the other one, but equally as built, if not more so, said with a cackle, “we’re just getting started with you.”

A scream built up in your throat and you tried to run around him, but he caught you around the waist and picked you up, kicking and screaming.

He threw you to the ground and on instinct, you threw your hands out to catch your fall. Most of your weight landed on your right hand and you heard a sickening pop and your wrist flared with pain almost immediately and you collapsed against the dirty alley floor with a grunt of pain. Your head swam when it collided, once again, with something hard and frozen and when you tried to sit up, your vision blurred in front of you, the man standing in front you became four and the man behind you, who had recovered from your blow, took advantage of your disillusioned state and grabbed you roughly by the hair, yanking you backwards.

You gripped his wrist with both hands and ignoring the flare of pain in your right hand, you yanked and twisted and with a smirk of satisfaction, you heard his wrist crunch and heard him curse loudly, letting go of you immediately.

Your head felt heavy and you had to blink several times and by the time you’d gathered yourself, the other guy was standing over you and once again grabbing you by the throat, shoving you back onto the ground, settling his weight on top of you, his knees trapping your legs down, pinning you and you were unable to break free.

You wiggled, trying desperately to break out of his hold and his hold lessened enough for you to twist your neck and sink your teeth into the meat of his hand.

He pulled back with a yelp, his eyes blazing with fury. Before you had time to react, his hand came back and pain exploded in a multitude of colors around your left eye, the sting of the slap made worse from the cold and the sound echoed around the empty alley.

A desperate cry broke free of your lips and tears welled, the fear spreading like a viscous poison in your veins and you wished more for anything to be back in Peter’s warm apartment, building the stupid Death Star with Alt J playing in the background, all the hurt and jealousy forgotten as you bantered playfully with your best friend.

“Maybe that’ll teach you to behave,” the man said harshly, panting heavily and you heard the clink of a belt buckle and suddenly time slowed down. You jerked and wiggled and struggled, trying hopelessly to escape his harsh hold.

You screamed out in fear and desperation and you were rewarded with another slap for your efforts.

“Shut her up, dumbass, she’s gonna wake the whole neighborhood.” The other guy demanded harshly.

“I’m trying, but maybe if you’d help me—“

He didn’t get to finish his sentence.

A blur of red and blue came flying from the building on the right, knocking him into the brick wall harshly, his head making a grotesque crack against the frozen brick.

“Now, is this any way to treat a lady, fellas?” Spider-Man asked lightly, but you could hear the barely concealed anger. He grabbed the guy up by his throat, throwing him into his buddy, who was trying to make a run for it. They spilled over each other like an odd form of bowling pins and you watched as they both stood up and raised their fists up defensively.

“Two against one? Now how is that fair?” Spider-Man goaded as the taller of the two charged and swung, Spider-Man dodging it easily and you watched, with blurry vision as Spider-Man ducked and dived and dodged their weak attempts at fighting.

Your vision swam and the left side of your face throbbed in a dull ache in time with your wrist. You feel yourself slipping, a fog rolled over your senses and suddenly, you felt the fatigue settle into your bones as the adrenalin and the panic left your body.

The red and blue blur webbed the two men up and you heard him murmuring into his phone and a giggle fell from your lips when you realized that Spider-Man carried a cellphone. You wondered if he called it a Spidey-phone, if it had web access—

Spider-Man suddenly appeared in your line of vision, hovering over you and despite the mask, you could feel the panic and concern rolling off of him in waves. His sudden appearance startled you, fear rising once again like bile in your throat.

He moved back, holding his hands up in a placating gesture, “Whoa, hey, it’s okay, I’m not gonna hurt you.” His voice was soft and warm and filled with so much concern that it made tears spring to your eyes.

“Hey,” he whispered, “you’re gonna be okay, I promise. Those…creeps,” he spat the word like a curse, “will never hurt you again.”

Your vision was getting dark around the edges and you felt tired, the fight leaving your body and leaving you a shivering mess in its wake.

“Thank you,” you whispered hoarsely, your throat raw and flaming from all the screaming. You winced, raising a shaky hand to feel it, wondering if it was as swollen as it felt.

A gloved hand stopped you, gently grabbing your hand and wrapping it in his warm grip.

“Best not touch anything until medical comes, okay?” he said nervously, his thumb brushing over the back of your freezing hand.

“Will you stay with me?” You asked, your trepidation making your voice sound small and almost childlike, but you couldn’t bring yourself to care. Your eyelids fluttered, the drowsiness becoming too much to bear.

Spider-Man’s voice was soft when he answered you, “I’ll never leave you, Y/N.”

How do you know my name?

The question was fleeting, but it lingered, even when the exhaustion became too much and the world became quiet.

Bright light danced before your closed eyes and your eyelids felt like they had fifty pound weights strapped to them. You could hear rushing footsteps and someone was yelling, demanding to know what happened. It sounded like your father, but you weren’t sure. The sounds were muffled, like they were coming through a badly tuned radio, like the one in uncle Steve’s room that looked like it came out of the ice with him.

“—left my apartment upset and she left her phone—“

“—why was she upset? What’d you do to her Parker?!”

“—I found her in the alley with those two men they were going to—“

The voice was the same one that said they wouldn’t leave you and you saw the flash of red and blue and the smell of Tom Ford cologne your dad was fond of was overwhelming and your muddled brain pieced together that your dad was talking to Spider-Man.

“—if it wasn’t for you kid, my daughter would be dead or worse and I—thank you.”

“It’s not a problem Mr. Stark, Y/N is very important to me and I would never let anything happen to her.”

For the first time that night, you felt warm.

The second time you woke up, the room was darker and bathed in the light of the moon. You glanced around the room and the first thing that came to your mind was white. White walls, white floors, white curtains, white sheets.

The door to the room was propped open and you could hear the voices from earlier floating in from the hallway, tones hushed and soft, something about a suit and—

A flash of red and blue

“What’d you do to her Parker?!”

You heard footsteps and your father appeared in doorway, dressed in old jeans and a ratty AC/DC T-shirt. His hair was rumpled and he looked tired, the bags underneath his eyes more pronounced than ever and when his gaze landed on you, he smiled.

“Well, look who decided to grace us with her presence,” he teased, the bed shifting when he sat down on the edge, reaching out to brush your hair out of your face, “how do you feel?”

His dark eyes were concerned, worry creeping at the edges and you felt guilt swell in your gut for putting that there.

“Tired,” you said softly, voice still hoarse, “confused, sore,” you added, “but I’m okay.”

Your dad smiled, but it didn’t reach his eyes.

You swallowed heavily, flicking your gaze down to the sheets, spotting a loose thread and your nervous fingers began to fiddle with it, “Dad, I—“

You could feel tears welling in your eyes and you choked back a sob. You didn’t even know where to begin, how to even apologize for being so reckless and so stupid.

A calloused hand settled on yours and pulled you gently into a hard chest, wrapping you into strong arms and you felt safe.

“Hey now,” your dad murmured into your hair, “it’s not your fault, kiddo. Peter told me what happened and while I agree that you could’ve handled it differently, you’re here and you’re safe and that’s what matters the most to me right now.” He whispered, brushing a kiss over the top of your head.

You squeezed your eyes shut, cuddling closer to his warm chest. He smelled like coffee and motor oil and a hint of the Tom Ford cologne, his scent comforting and familiar, grounding you and warming the chill that had settled into your veins. You knew something like this would never happen again, that your dad would do everything in his power to put those assholes in prison to never see the light of day again and the thought calmed you.

He placed another kiss to the top of your head before pulling away, smoothing your hair back from your face, cupping your cheek.

“I love you, kid,” he whispered, a serious look settling over his features, “I don’t know what I’d do if something happened to you.”

You gave him a small smile, “I love you, too, dad.”

He ruffled your hair, smiling genuinely for the first time since you woke up. You knew this attack had aged him and added to the growing list of concerns and stress he had going on at the moment and the guilt from earlier rose back up again.

Something flickered in the doorway and you glanced up, seeing a familiar face gazing in anxiously.

Your dad followed your gaze, and a soft chuckle fell from his lips, “It’s cool kid, you can come in and say hi, no need to hover all awkwardly in the doorway, that’s Vision’s job.”

Peter smiled, but his eyes were on you, his gaze filled with so much concern and worry that you felt the guilt rise in you even more.

Your dad flickered his gaze back and forth between the two of you before letting out a slow whistle, “Wow, you could cut the awkward tension in here with a knife.”

You leveled him with a glare and he smirked in return, “I’ll just go talk to Dr. Cho see what she has to say about your progress.”

He kissed your head, before standing and waltzing out of the room, patting Peter on the shoulder as he went.  The door shut softly behind him and silence settled around you, Peter fiddling with the hem of his grey Stark Industries t-shirt, shuffling awkwardly in the middle of the room.

“How do you feel?” He asked softly, glancing up at you through his lashes and you didn’t have the heart to be mad at him anymore. It was stupid to begin with, looking back on it and it almost cost you your life.

You shrugged, wincing when even that hurt, “I’m okay, sore. Tired. Confused.”

He nodded, looking back down at the floor.

You sighed heavily, “Peter, look, I’m sorry for…storming out the way I did. It was childish and stupid and I know you were only joking about Michelle—“

“Do you know why I asked you to build the Lego Death Star with me?” he asked, cutting you off. He raised his gaze to yours and you could see a determination in those chocolate depths and you fell silent, shaking your head to answer his question.

“I asked you, because I like spending time with you,” He said quietly, voice unsure, “don’t get me wrong, I like spending time with Ned and Michelle, I do, but you’re…different,” he said, his eyebrows furrowing, “you don’t ask questions that I don’t have answers to and I know you know that something’s been off with me lately, has been since around the time uncle Ben—“ he cut himself off, voice shaking, “I—I’ve never met anyone like you before. Most people would revel in the fact that their dad is Tony Stark, billionaire and Iron Man, of all people, but you…you hide from it.”

He looked lost in thought, and it was like you weren’t even in the room anymore, “You could be the most popular girl in school and yet you chose to hang out with me and Ned, probably the most unpopular people in the entire school,” the confusion in his voice made your heart throb painfully, wishing more than anything that Peter could see himself the way you did, “I mean, c’mon, we spend our time playing with legos and watching documentaries and building tech out of stuff we get out of a dumpster,” he snorted derisively, shaking his head, “you could be homecoming queen and go to all the cool parties and—“

“Peter,” you said softly, reaching out to grab his hand, squeezing it gently between yours. He looked up at you, seemingly at a loss for words. This was the question that, for the first time in his life, he didn’t know the answer to and you couldn’t help the small laugh that escape your lips if you tried, “none of those things matter to me.”

He opened his mouth to protest, but you shook your head, “I’ve spent my entire life surrounded by people who only want to get close to me because of who my father is, to use me for my dad’s money or his status or his ideas. I don’t want a fan club, I want actual friends,” you explained gently, looking down at the soft white sheets that were beyond hospital regulation and tried to ignore the threat of tears pricking behind your eyes, “my dad almost died twice because someone I thought of as family tried to gain control of his tech and his money and that’s the scary part about all of this,” you said, flicking your gaze up to his, “I never know who’s in this for me, not my name and my connections and not my dad’s money, but for me. To see me as my own person and not as the daughter of someone with more money than ten countries put together, with the power to change the world with his ideas and the ability to protect it with his Iron Man suits and what’s left of the Avengers.”

“But you,” you continued, squeezing his warm hand, “you’ve never once seen me as Tony Stark’s daughter. You’ve never questioned why I wanted to study in the library or go to your apartment and never here, at the Tower. You’re not afraid to joke with me or tease me and you’ve never once pretended to be something you’re not in order to impress me or get me to notice you,” you couldn’t help but smile, “you’re so good, Peter. You just, you care so much about everyone and everything and I’ve never met someone, besides my dad, who just wants to be there for people. You’re so smart and kind to everyone and yet you still think that somehow, people deserve better than you, when in reality, some people don’t deserve you.”

Peter’s cheeks flushed bright red and your heart warmed at the sight, “I’m not good like you and the only reason I got into Mid-Town was because of my dad and his ‘anonymous’ donation the science department,” you said with a snort, “if it wasn’t for you tutoring me, I’d be flunking chemistry and physics.”

“I’m not smart like you,” you finished, your voice wavering, “or Michelle.” you added as an afterthought, “you deserve way better than someone like me.”

Peter was silent for a long time and when you braved a look up, he was staring at you, opened mouth, his brown eyes shining in disbelief, “Y/N,” he stammered, “You’re…everything,” he breathed, “You’re so smart and kind and you care so much about the people in your life. You spent years of your life trapped in this tower in order to protect your dad from getting hurt again and you don’t ask anyone for anything. You’re determined to make something of yourself without your dad’s help and you have the power— every reason to not be nice to someone like me, to be friends with someone like me,” he gave a breathy laugh, “I’ll never understand it, but as long as you know that I’ll never take advantage of you or hurt you in a way and I’m so sorry for what I said last night,” his cheeks flushed and he gave you a sheepish smile, “besides, I like Michelle, but I like hanging out with you more.”

You laughed, “Your secret is safe with me, I promise.”

He laughed, but it faded as soon as it came and something like guilt flickered in his eyes and he let go of your hand, standing up from his spot on the bed and you furrowed your eyebrows, confused.

“Peter?” You asked softly and you were unable to hide the worry in your tone. You could hear your heart rate pick up on the monitor beside you, but you ignored, focusing on the tense set of Peter’s shoulders as he turned his back to you.

“You need to rest,” he whispered, “I should probably go.”

Fear gripped your heart at the thought of being alone, at the thought of sleeping in this huge room by yourself and you reached out and grabbed his arm, stopping him.

“W-Will you stay with me? Please?” You asked, borderline begging him not to leave.

“Hey, hey,” he whispered softly, his voice gentle and warm and something pulled at your memory. He turned around and sat back down on the bed next to you. He gripped your hand tightly, his other hand reach up and brushing the tears that had escaped your eyes off your cheek with gentle gentle fingers, “it’s okay, you’re okay. I’m here, I’m not gonna leave, I’ll never leave you, Y/N.” he said fiercely, his eyes burning with his promise.

His voice was familiar, like you’d heard it before

“Will you stay with me?”

“I’ll never leave you, Y/N.”

How does he know my name?

A flash of red and blue

Your dad’s angry voice

“What’d you do to her, Parker?!”

“It was you.” You whispered, eyes wide as the dawn realization hit you like a slap to the face. And suddenly, everything made sense. His unexplained absences, the bruises, why he was tired all the time, why Spider-Man got to you so quickly, why he seemed to know your dad.

Peter was Spider-Man

Peter was silent, eyes wide with panic and guilt and you could see the million excuses in his eyes, trying to find one that would cover all the coincidence that weren’t just coincidences. He opened his mouth to explain, but no sound came out and it only confirmed every suspicion you had.

“You’re the one that saved me,” You said, disbelief coloring your tone, “you-you’re Spider-Man.

You could see Peter wanted to deny it immediately, make up an excuse, deflect all the attention off of himself, but after a minute of stone cold silence, he finally, slowly, nodded his head.

A million things flashed through your mind, all at once and you weren’t sure what to say, what was appropriate to say at a time like this. You just found out your best friend, who you happened to be very much in love with, was a superhero and just happened to save you from god only knows what last night and well, what do you say at a time like this?

“Look, I know it’s shocking and weird, but please don’t say anything, okay? Ned knows, your dad knows and that’s it, I can’t let anyone else find out. This information could land in the wrong hands can be dangerous and—“

You weren’t sure what possessed you do it, but didn’t know how else you were supposed to say thank you and Peter’s nervous rambling was one of the cutest things about him and his lips were just there and so, you kissed him.

His lips were soft and warm and slightly chapped and frozen underneath yours.

You pulled away with an embarrassed smile, your cheeks flushing, “Peter, I—thank you.” You breathed sincere, squeezing his hand tightly, “thank you for saving me.”

He blushed, a bashful smile dancing on his pink lips, “You don’t need to thank me, Y/N,” he said humbly, “I’ll always be there to protect you.”

He squeezed your hand, a sad smile dancing on his lips, “Don’t feel like you have to, y’know, like me now or anything. I don’t expect you to return my feelings and I hope you don’t feel, like, obligated to—“

You cut him off with another kiss and this time, he returned it. His lips were hesitant and you could feel his inexperience in his movements, but you could only smile, your heart fluttering as he brushed his fingers through your hair, his hand tightening around yours as he shifted closer to you, cupping your cheek gently in his strong hand and you felt the familiar safety wash over you as you were pulled into his arms.

“Peter,” you murmured, running your fingers through his messy hair, “I liked you long before you saved my life, so don’t even start the self-sacrificing bullshit, okay?”

He smiled, his cheeks flushing, eyes bright, but there was a lurking insecurity that made your heart squeeze, “This could be dangerous, you know,” he began softly, “If anyone ever found out about me, they could use you to hurt me and I can’t do that to you—“

You understood the concern, but you couldn’t help the eye roll if you tried, ignoring the soreness in the left side of your face where you were sure you had a black eye, “My dad’s Iron Man and my god-father is War Machine, I almost feel sorry for the person that tries to do anything to me.”

He pouted, “Hey, I think I proved that more than capable of saving you, too,” but his eyes became serious, “I never want anything to happen to you and I’ll do everything I can to protect you from anything that comes your way.”

You smiled and he kissed you again, a quick peck before he untangled himself from you, ignoring your protests, “It’s late, Y/N, and you need to rest, those guys,” his face was grim, “they did a number on you.”

Your heart hammered against your chest at the thought of falling asleep, of closing your eyes and leaving yourself vulnerable to the nightmares you knew were sure to greet you when you did finally close your eyes.

Peter could read your anxiety and he squeezed your hand, “Hey, I’ll be here the entire time, nothing’s gonna hurt you, I promise.”

He sat down in the chair next to your bed to prove his point, and when you finally settled down, laying your head on the fluffy white pillow and closed your eyes, his hand still tightly grasped in yours, he brushed a kiss over your forehead.

“I’ll never leave you, Y/N.”

I really hope you guys liked this and a side note, I don’t know much about Star Wars or if such a thing even exists lol. Feel free to let me know what you thought and if you have any prompts or suggestions for me, don’t hesitate to ask me (:

Pro tips; high school version

-do not skip a class you have anything lower than an A in. Trust me
-do your homework, you will regret it later if you get a C in a class you could have gotten an A in all because you wanted to scroll through social media instead of do math
-it’s high school, there is going to be drama. Don’t create it, try to stay out of it. It doesn’t do anyone any good to be an instigator
-don’t lie about stupid shit to seem cool or “edgy” it’s not cool to be fake.
-don’t talk shit about people, especially your friends. Letting off steam is okay, but don’t make it a habit
-pack your bag every night, spare charger, ear buds, papers, books, binders, deodorant, lotion, pencils, markers, highlighters, extra lead/sharpener, anything you need for the next day
-it’s not odd or weird or dorky to pack lunches, but if you pack them bring extra snacks to eat because you will eat in class
-most high school teachers don’t give a shit about gum, that’s middle school bullshit
-cursive almost never comes up, I don’t know why but I was taught and retaught it seven times in my 10 school years and haven’t used it past 7th grade.
-bring gum, and snacks and pencils, and WATER you will need it
-it’s okay to not share stuff, if they didn’t bring it don’t feel the need to give them it. This includes papers, foods, drinks, pencils and pens, markers, sharpies, gum, anything
-make new friends, it’s actually really easy.
-almost every one goes into high school thinking they won’t go to college, or having some massive Harvard plan. It’s okay not to know at all, or to aim for a community college.
- try not to plan too much, life does things to plans
-work hard at classes you don’t do well in, summer school sucks, you don’t want to be there and neither does anyone else.
-smile at people, compliment them, if they are rude to you, don’t worry. Nobody remembers anything really
-study, do what study method works best, don’t watch tv while you study, or try and be on your phone as “breaks” use a book instead. So you aren’t tempted to just say fuck it and quit
-plug your phone in every night
-get a job as soon as you can/want to the spare cash is a good way to motivate you to do things.
-don’t disrespect teachers, be their friends, laugh with them about things and remember they are here to teach, not babysit
-don’t fight on school grounds or bring anything illegal unless you absolutely have to. If some one hits you, don’t hit back, if they are gonna beat the shit out of you before help arrives, then hit back.
-seriously don’t do drugs at school
-take your medicine for whatever you need
-always have period supplies in your bag and locker(s) because even if you don’t start randomly some poor girl will and nothing is better than helping out other girls
-don’t be afraid of eating alone, no one notices and if they do they will probably invite you to sit by them
-do not talk shit about your friends, you will get caught and it has lead to some nasty things
-don’t ass kiss either, it is annoying and most people actually don’t like it
-be honest not blunt
-you will make friends, don’t worry about it
-dating is not a big deal, it mostly just ends in heartache
-don’t expect anything from the world, it owes you nothing
- try and find a hobby that makes you happy, electives are good ways to do that. You like music? Piano, band, orchestra, choir etc. You like dance? Dance, drill team, cheer leading, gymnastics etc. You like arts? Art, graphic design, etc. Languages? Spanish, ASL, sometimes French or German.
-try to find one person to lean on, or many. Don’t worry about how many friends you have, it’s quality, not quantity.
-seriously, I have like seven best friends and I love them all equally and we all get along fine
-don’t be afraid to cut people out of your life, rumors die, and nobody will remember this in ten years except maybe you.
-high school is stressful, I’m not gonna lie, and it sucks a lot of times. You will probably want to quit, just remember your goals and morals, and try to find people to go through life with.

22 Random Tidbits About Mass Effect Andromeda

1. Ryder is intentionally more of a blank slate than Shepard at the beginning of Andromeda. “Shepard came on the scene, and it felt like they’d already accomplished a lot and they’d done a lot and they’d seen a lot – but I hadn’t,” says creative director Mac Walters. “That whole universe was new to me, and so there was a bit of a disconnect between me and my player character right from the start. And so, with this, I’d really like us to close that gap as much as we can without going full amnesia.”

2. Your companion Liam has a British accent.

3. You find clues about what happened to the other arks. For instance, as you locate asari escape pods, you learn more about what happened to them and their ark, and that thread is eventually resolved in a mission.

4. Some quests take place on the planet where you discover them, and others point you toward new locations. “It’s about a 90-10 split,” says Walters. “Once you’re on a world, you should feel like you can spend your time there and complete the level. The rest are either resolved from somewhere else or send you somewhere else.”

5. Despite the series’ long history, the move to new hardware and adopting the Frostbite engine means BioWare built all systems, tools, and assets from scratch for Andromeda.

6. All of the systems (though not necessarily all of the content) are currently implemented in the game. Now it’s just a matter of “balance and tweaking,” according to Walters.

7. Enemies of the same class have different abilities based on their race.

8. Not all of the races from the original trilogy appear in Andromeda, but they may show up in future installments. “We’ve designed the IP in such a way that they can all show up,” Walters says. “For hopefully obvious reasons, they’re not all going to show up in the first game.”

9. The points you earn by gaining experience are applied to more than just your powers. It’s the same currency you use for other kinds of progression, like improving the hover time on your jetpack and increasing the Nomad’s speed.

10. The blistering heat of Elaaden is only one kind of environmental hazard. “Another planet you might have ice, or radiation, or another kind of hazard,” says producer Mike Gamble. “We’re trying to mix it up, and how you survive them will be different depending on the planet. Some might require a different Nomad upgrade, others will take shelter, and so forth.”

11. For players worried the scope expansion will dilute the experience: “The key for us has been ensuring that the content is rich and up to BioWare quality standards,” Walters says. “Believe it or not, as massive as this is, we’ve actually continued to restrain the scope as much as possible so we can bring quality to each of these areas and make each one memorable. That’s a term I use a lot – I want these places to be memorable. I don’t want it to be like, the white planet, the blue planet – I want to remember the names of the locations and the characters I meet.”

12. Think the default Scott Ryder looks a bit like original Mass Effect project director Casey Hudson? It’s not intentional, but the team thinks it’s a funny “ghost in the machine” moment.

13. Don’t expect the events or characters of the original trilogy to shape the state of the world in Andromeda. “We didn’t want to invalidate anything that people had done in the past, and we wanted to make sure everyone feels like they can be onboard, whether or not they have played before,” Walters says.

14. Before assuming the role of Pathfinder, Ryder’s title is “recon specialist.”

15. As you leave the Ark for the first time, your dad wants you to rub a good-luck rock on the way out.

16. About 20,000 humans are still asleep on the Hyperion when Ryder wakes up at the beginning of the game.

17. During sequences that might have just been non-interactive cinematics before, players now have a degree of control – like steering a character falling through the sky, or examining objects in a shuttle as a conversation is going on.

18. “Armor is split into sub-categories, and you can mix and match pieces,” Gamble says. “Helmet, shoulders, chest, legs. You can have different pieces from different sets.”

19. On the graphical front, the CG trailers for the original trilogy are what the team uses as a reference for what it is trying to accomplish now in real-time.

20. You pick up additional Tempest crew members on your journey.

21. While the game isn’t zany, the tone is lighter compared to Mass Effect 3. “I think there’s a bit more humor,” says producer Fabrice Condominas. “I think everybody takes it a bit less seriously in the tone of the dialogue. The characters are different – they’re younger, and you feel that in the tone.”

22. You don’t have to start New Game+ after finishing the game. You can just keep exploring once the final mission is complete.

  • Good for just keeping in mind anything you don’t want to forget (especially if you stick them to your laptop, they’ll be hard to miss).

Prisma Markers

  • These art markers are my personal favorite.
  • You’ll hear all kinds of brands, preferences, and prices.
  • Copics are nice and are very aesthetic, but they’re also about $7-$8 per marker. Concept markers from Jerry’s Artarama are very cheap at about $2 per marker, but the colors on their caps are sometimes misleading, and Prisma Markers are a happy medium at about $4 - $5 per marker.
  • They’re at most art stores
  • For me, they’re a happy medium price-wise and I like working with them. (Concept markers maybe I’d get the black because it’s cheaper)

  • Rolls things up
  • Groups things up (markers and other utensils)
  • Cheap and effective!
  • Rubber bands are a little meaner, especially to hair or trying to get them off a long paper roll.

Circle Tool

  • Basically, something that makes perfect circles.
  • This can either be a circle template, a compass, or some other device that you find that makes different sized circles.
  • You can go cheap on these

The Toolbox

  • All these little things that I keep mentioning to bring with you need to be contained somewhere
  • I like putting what I’m using for a current project in a toolbox and bringing that to school.
  • I suggest going with something that’ll fit in a backpack or that you don’t mind carrying around.
  • Really only carry it if you think you’ll need it.
  • You can carry a smaller version of typical tools (pens, pencils, markers, scissors, x-acto, etc.) and leave the rest at home, too.

The Baggage

  • Not the emotional kind, but the one that carries all of these crazy supplies I’m recommending.
  • In university, you don’t have all of your graphic design classes in one day (I would hope), so having a typical backpack works fine for the smaller supplies.
  • If a project is due the next day and you’re planning to work at the school and you need to bring everything, then I highly suggest a rolling backpack!
  • Don’t kill your back!! Messenger bags only work if you’re not bringing much, otherwise, do a backpack (or a rolling one).

  • Almost all graphic designers will tell you to use a Mac, but of course, not all graphic designers can afford one.
  • If you can afford a Mac, I’d recommend it.
  • If you can’t afford a Mac, go with a cheaper alternative, but not TOO cheap. It still needs to last 4 years and run all of your programs.
  • Wait until you actually need to buy one (that way you can get the latest models or earlier models at cheaper prices).

External Hard Drives (BACK EVERYTHING UP!)

  • I would even say have at least two (current semester and archive(s))
  • You never know when previously mentioned laptop may die, malfunction, or wipe everything.
  • Keep a back-up for sending to competitions, putting in portfolios, and just for safe keeping.
  • KEEP IT ORGANIZED. You need to know what you have and don’t have so you don’t “double save” something in two separate folders.

A decent phone with decent camera quality

  • Nowadays most people do have this phone already on them, but if you’re one of the low-budget phone holders, then I highly suggest to get a higher quality phone.
  • Picture taking for process photos can actually be done with a phone camera if it’s good enough, you can just fix things up in photoshop.
  • Having a decent phone will let you also use helpful and productive apps such as camscanner, schedule makers, and Adobe apps
  • Raising your mood with a higher quality of life will help raise productivity!
  • If you can’t open snapchat without it force closing then you miss out on your friend’s lives or whenever they get an update on a project and you don’t. Social media can honestly be helpful sometimes as people post their process online!

Drawing tablet

  • Wacom works well enough for me!
  • You don’t have to go super expensive with all the bells and whistles for this… you just need something that draws.
  • These can get a little pricey (mine being at $90 and I got one step-up from the cheapest one at the time)
  • You don’t absolutely need a tablet, but it is very handy.
  • If you don’t do illustration often I would not recommend it.
  • You can also hold off on getting a tablet and just hand-draw something, scan it, and fix it in whatever program (or vectorize/image trace in illustrator and mess with it that way)

Tracing paper

  • Helps trace things when abstracting
  • Covers mounted work with a protective sheet
  • I prefer the rolls, but they’re way more expensive than the 9″x12″ pad (maybe not per foot, but it’s initially more expensive)

Spray mount/Adhesive spray

  • One way to stick two things together
  • You need a lot of space and throw away paper under what you’re spraying
  • You’ll definitely get all of it everywhere (which is good if you want to make sure corners don’t stick up on a mounted piece, but it’s bad if your garage floor is suddenly sticky)

Liquid cement

  • Another way to stick things together and is a little more forgiving.
  • Elmer’s brand is the one that I have, and basically, if you mess up or “over-glue” something, you can rub the excess off (like you would the typical white Elmer’s glue).
  • When you’ve rubbed it off, it basically becomes those little gray things that erasers produce that you can just brush away.
  • It comes with a designated brush attached to the lid on the inside (super convenient) and it’s easy to apply and store (smaller bottle than the adhesive spray can).

Portfolio case

  • For when you’re carrying larger pieces from one place to another (such as a mounted piece or a large editorial) like turning in your final presentation of your project.
  • You can get a big fancy one if you really want to, but at least get the bare minimum to carry something from one place to another without it getting folded or wet. (especially you commuters/bus-riders)

The big paper cutter

  • Even I don’t have this one, but whenever I use the one at school or at FedEx it makes trimming things down so much easier!
  • You line it up, you drag the blade across, and then you’ve got a perfectly straight line.
  • Again, if you can afford the money and space for it I recommend it, but my school provides one for us.
  • It’s kind of one of those things that you don’t NEED if you have an X-acto knife, but it speeds things up a bit

High-quality camera

  • Similar to the phone concept… taking nice photos of your work is always a plus.
  • The camera I would reserve for mock-up photos for submitting pieces or getting photography for an editorial work.
  • Someone in your class ought to have one that you can borrow (and maybe even the program will offer one to borrow), but it’s always good to have your own things.
  • Also, being able to stage your own photos instead of photoshopping mock-up templates always feels more authentic and looks better in a portfolio. (you’re not the only one looking up Photoshop mock-up templates in the design world)

Light table

  • You can either buy one or make one (easier than you think)
  • Very helpful when you’re tracing!
  • This is the most useful when you’re doing abstractions or you’re trying to refine hand-drawn ideas.
  • You can make one with a shadow-box frame and some LED lights.
  • Again, not necessary since programs might actually have some at school that you can borrow.

A second monitor

  • Web design!
  • Programs like Brackets do live-preview, so when you code the changes apply immediately to a chrome preview window, so seeing the changes as you code is helpful!
  • Putting up inspiration or just other documents to keep in mind on the other screen makes things easier to work with.

Fancy keyboard with custom keys

  • This one was actually a recommendation from my boyfriend (who is a tech geek).
  • Basically, there are keyboards that you can map shortcuts to specific keys on the keyboard.
  • There are some shortcut keys that you’ll use a million times in a project and if you feel that a function key being assigned to it would be easier instead, and you have money to splurge, this is the keyboard to go with!
  • This is totally unnecessary, but could be lots of fun and helpful!

iPad and Apple pen

  • Digitally drawing on a tablet with a stylus can be good for digital note taking or just drawing in general (as an alternative to the drawing tablet).
  • My professor uses his for sketch notes (which is always fun) and sometimes I see people doing illustrations straight into the tablet or just concepts.
  • Sketching concepts digitally allows you to put down ideas quickly, but also be able to save them without having to worry about scanning or taking pictures of the drawings.
  • Another splurge option that obviously has other uses than this, but is completely unnecessary.

MORE Prisma Markers

  • Remember when I said Prisma Markers before?
  • You really only need a basic color set and maybe a gray set. Any more than that then you’re falling into a fun and fancy category for supplies.
  • They’re not the cheapest things in the world, but using markers definitely brings your sketches up a level versus pencil or black and white sketches.
  • It’s also good for making preliminary color schemes and other illustrations.
  • Have several blacks because those are usually the first marker to go dry.

That’s all I got! I hope that helped and I’m sorry it was so long, I tried to condense… but I’ll make a visual/audio version that might be easier to digest!

First Half of 2017 Fic Rec

A compilation of some of the fics that I’ve enjoyed this year [with little glimpses into the stories and comments about them, do check them out to see the actual summaries and do support the authors if you enjoy them as well 💕]:

  • trndsttrs of seoul by chimint || yoonmin, namjin || t || wip
chatfic; jimin is a cinnamon roll and yoongi is whipped™.
(literally the cutest thing ever, i reread it every day. jungkook calls yoonmin ‘dadgi’ and ‘jimom’ respectively (which is so fcking cute nghhh) and namjoon is the captain of the ship and they all ship ym - all concepts i am 100% up for. something to brighten up your day ^^)
  • The Songbird and the Sea by Misster Maia || yoonmin || bg taekook, namjin || m || wip || tw violence/graphic content
pirate au with magic; pink-haired jimin with the blessing of the canary finds himself on the infamous pirate ship agust, with its even more infamous captain, min yoongi aka the black fox of the east.
(the writing is amazing! i froth at the mouth waiting for this to update as it does very frequently! i am trash for both pirates and magic so wow, what greatness. a little slow burn, but with a reasonable pacing. also daegu bros are sort of actually bros here so plus points.)
  • Seven Days (Or The One Where Min Yoongi Asks Out Park Jimin Because Of A Girl) by minyoongayashell || yoonmin || bg taekook, namjin || m || wip || tw sexual content (but like, no actual sex)
seven days au; jimin is called “cheot-nal ye” or “first day yes”. basically he’s famous at school for agreeing to date the first person who asks him out on the first day of the week - 100% of the time, he breaks off the relationship at the end of the week and the cycle repeats itself. now, yoongi hates this girl in class and she wants to ask jimin out. naturally, he has to beat her to it.
(the manga was such a sweet thing and the fic gets me so excited. i don’t read a lot of high school aus, but this one is special! it’s not updated very frequently, but it’s definitely worth a read.)
  • Bullet Boy by sugamins || yoonmin || e || tw homophobia/sexual content || wip || tw references to drug use/depression
in which yoongi’s an underground rapper and jimin collabs with other rappers to break into the scene and flash forward into the future, they are caught up in a ‘scandal the likes of which the industry has never seen before.’
(the writing is so amazing, wow, it’s only on the first third chapter but the author makes it feel so promising. i kid you not, i actually messaged them and fangirled embarrassingly bc I am that kind of person. also ! underground yoonmin !)
  • Hiraeth by haruguk || taekook, yoonmin, platonic yoonkook || not rated but probably e || 100k || tw sexual content/graphic content/drug abuse/mental instability/psychosis || tw referenced child abuse/cheating/alcohol abuse/self-harm (basically a lot of warnings!)
diary of an oxygen thief au; perfect fratboy jeongguk gets off of breaking hearts, but he can’t quite do the same to kim taehyung. “hurt people hurt people.” read the warnings carefully!
(basically this fic broke my heart time and time again and everyone has probably already read this but i still must rec it bc it is that good.)
  • tats'n'thots by Death_Impala || taekook || bg yoonmin || not rated but probably m || 12k || tw sexual content
tattoo artist au; taehyung to jeongguk: “I feel inspired, and I want to work with you, so how about this: let me tattoo you in any way I want, free of charge – with your input of course.” also, bottom jk. c:
(i am trash for the using-your-body-as-a-canvas trope and similarly, or even more so, for bottom bby jk. :’) this fic is a blessing. taekook and art obviously belong in the same sentence.)
  • Idiosyncratic by jiminsfw || taekook || e || 19k || tw sexual content/knots/ruts/usual abo things
a/b/o au; taehyung and jungkook are an alpha/alpha couple, and no one thinks that alpha/alpha couples can last. involves ruts and switching and so much emotion.
(this was a particularly interesting read bc it took me forever to find a fic with alpha/alpha taekook! alpha/alpha taekook nghhh it’s just the cutest thing, a little sad, but ultimately very fluffy.)
  • Mileage May Vary by rix || taekook || e || wip || tw sexual content/age difference/strip clubs/recreational drug use
“Jeongguk is a stripper with a penchant for trouble. Taehyung is curious.” taehyung is nine years older than jk, who has a prince albert btw. bottom jk as always. sort of soft sugar daddy tae? but not really.
(once again i am trash for bottom jk. and all of rix’s fics are so good ;A; the quality just gets better and better. also, tae is once-divorced, heads up. in rix’s words, nothing really happens but still, it’s so enjoyable. <3)
  • spring day by Bangtanbananas || yoonmin, taekook, namjin || e || 70.9k || tw violence/graphic content/sexual content/mpreg/heats/usual abo things
wolf au; only 5% (i think) of wolves find their fated mates (but most wolves believe they don’t actually exist bc soulmates?), and although jimin dreamt of finding his when he was a pup, he didn’t actually expect to in the mysterious alpha from the mountains.
(i crave shit like this bc wolves + a/b/o + pack dynamics is just - c: omega jm and alpha yg, yes please. seokjin is the real mvp.)
  • half feral, but just right by themelonlord || yoonmin, platonic jikook || e || wip || tw discrimination/bullying/graphic content (but not really)/probably sexual content || tw referenced child abuse
a/b/o au; in a world where alphas are considered little more than rabid animals, yoongi’s just trying to scrape by and achieve his dreams. but then he meets omega park jimin and his pseudo little brother, young alpha jeon jeongguk.
(yoonmin with their son /dongsaeng jjk is evidently my absolute favourite thing. :’) i was dreaming about an au where the alphas are victimised for a change a week before i discovered this fic and i wanted to cry bc it was better than i could ever imagine it to be.)
  • These Lyrics Will Write Themselves by PrettyBoyKiller || yoonmin, taekook, namjin || t || wip || tw sexual content/cyberbullying/eating disorders || tw referenced homophobia
sugar daddy au gone wrong sort of? jimin starts off as bulletproof ent’s co-director min yoongi’s nonsexual sugar baby, then eventually becomes an important part of both yoongi’s life and the lives of everyone around him.
(again this is something that everyone’s probably already reading but i cannot leave it out of my list. it’s a very nontraditional way of showing sugar babies in terms of fanfic, with a gentle, natural progression of things, and you’ll surely grow to love all of the artists yg has under his label the way jm does.)
  • Laugh and I Love You by ifisayhiyousayoops || jinkook || bg vmin || e || 21.9k || tw sexual content
canonverse; seokjin and jungkook are just - so domestic and codependent. literally it. the softest slice-of-life on this side of the internet.
(jinkook has always been my guilty pleasure and i love them. bratty btm bby jk is basically my religion? i’m this fic is so well written! it’s very gentle and sweet and wow. i love love.)
  • The Letter Thief by d4wndust || yoonmin || bg taekook || t || 21.9k || tw depression/character death || tw referenced suicide attempt (proceed with caution kind of story)
chatfic; “Park Jimin says his goodbyes through a text, but to a wrong number. | Min Yoongi makes Park Jimin live a little longer and Park Jimin makes Min Yoongi start living.”
(ngl i was sort of apprehensive before reading it, but anon rec’d it so i read it at 2 am, and i don’t regret it? it made me cry, a lot, and it was pretty sad. and i don’t know how accurate/sensitive its representation of depression was in the text but yeah, i cried like an infant so it deserves a mention. but please please remember to proceed with caution!)
  • time follows you (and fades) by thebestofme || yoonmin || bg taekook || t || 17k
hogwarts au; half-veela jimin finds himself in slytherin house and falling for slytherin prince, min yoongi. alternatively, jimin is so pretty and yoongi just wants to love him.
(slytherin yoonmin! yoongi is such a sweetheart and he has a pet kneazle named holly. :’) jeongguk is also adorable, i’m so weak. the first part is in jm’s pov and the second one’s in yg’s, so you literally get two sides of the story. i am trash for hogwarts aus and i’ve probably read all of them, and this one is such a gem!)
  • Once Upon A Dream by yururin || yoonmin || t || 17k
“soulmates AU where you can see a glimpse of your past life on the eve of your 18th birthday and Jimin dreams of a forbidden Joseon era love story with an upperclassman Min Yoongi, popular basketball player in uni, 18384/10 out of his reach”
(what is sin - it doesn’t exist. this entire thing is so soft and cute and pure. a great pick-me-up!)
  • glub glub glub by rabbitme || yoonmin || g || 6.7k
sort of chat fic that begins with jimin and yoongi missing each other.
(such purity. i love love. basically ym travelling, together and apart. ot7 interaction is something to look forward to, as well. it’s so fluffy, please read this and be blessed.)
  • The Boy in the Music Box by Misster Maia || yoonmin || bg namjin, taekook || t || 52.5k || tw referenced abuse
yoongi is a college kid with a dysfunctional circadian rhythm and whose grandmother claims to have been a legitimate magician/fortune teller in her time and forces yoongi to take home a music box. inside the music box is a ballerino - only, yoongi wakes up one late-evening-early-morning and finds the wooden ballerino missing, with a pretty boy named jimin in its place.
(where do i start with this? i must say - i love love. yg falls hard and fast, it’s not even a spoiler. jm has many secrets. angsty but overall very pure. the fluff can make you cry, tbh. yg’s grandmother calls him yoonyoon, what more do you need. did i mention i love love?)
  • light side of the moon by themelonlord || yoonmin, namjin, taekook, 95line || e || 80.8k || tw brief graphic content (blood)/sexual content
wolf au; jimin moves into a quiet town and befriends kim taehyung, who subsequently changes his life.
(it is such a lovely story, very pure, very gentle, with filth. :’) nothing really happens; it’s just a story about a boy who finds himself loving a man who can turn into a wolf. the ot7 is strong in this one. highly recommended if 95line and puppy piles make you smile.)
  • King of My Heart by wanderment || taekook || t || 17.7k
jeon jeongguk is the youngest son of the king of korea. taehyung is a friend of a friend - and a fan, but don’t let jeongguk know that. yet.
(a very wholesome and pure fic. they’re all rich college kids in this; minus namjin who are jk’s bodyguards. it feels short when you read it, but definitely very enjoyable. it’ll make you smile.)
  • Movie Night by Misster Maia || yoonmin || e || 8k || tw sexual content
the boys want to watch a horror movie and jimin needs a distraction. it’s a good thing yoongi’s such a great boyfriend.
(pure, unadulterated, unapologetic smut. i figured i needed at least one on my list and this one does not disappoint. kinks include exhibitionism, praise kink, hyung kink, overstimulation, and dirty talk. also, jimin has a nipple piercing, bless.)
  • The Victorious V and his Vast, Venturesome Heart by aprofessorstale || taekook, yoonmin || e || wip || tw sexual content/identity crises? canonverse; taehyung is in love with love. jimin doesn’t believe in it.
(this is probably one of the best non-aus i’ve read in forever. it’s very introspective, incredibly heavy when it comes to discussions of sexuality and identity. it is very well-written and the author had captured their personalities well, while sticking to a timeline mostly following reality. (basically everything happens post-ynwa era) taekook are complicated and as are yoonmin, and while the story isn’t over yet, it is definitely worth the read. nam2seok are the resident straights and they deserve to be loved. on that note! yg is demisexual, rejoice.)
  • I Wrote This For You by chikichikichuu || yoonmin, taekook || bg namjin || t || wip || tw referenced depression/self-harm
the “cliffhanging heartbreaking motherfucking breakthrough debut novel” you will not read this story frustrates jungkook enough for him to send an aggressive e-mail to his newly proclaimed favourite author, min yoongi. (or, yoonmin through jungkook’s eyes. painful, yet worth it. taekook are relationship goals, basically, and everything is seemingly lovely until it isn’t. it hasn’t been updated since february ::) but it’s the kind of story that you can’t stop thinking about. suffer with me. <3)
  • a silhouette of new by mygz || yoonmin || m || wip || tw sexual content
sugar daddy gone wrong au chatfic; an unknown number sends jimin a message, thinking he’s a sugar baby.
(very very cute! i look forward to this a lot. yoongi and jm are both very natural and very adorable, spicy and sweet. uwu seriously something to look forward to if you’re into fluffy and sexy sugar daddy au chatfics.)
  • we put the gay in ‘gay’ by ThePurpleStarfish || yoonmin || bg namjin || m || wip
chatfic; starts with hobi’s iconic line: “listen up sluts”
(yoonmin-centred. it’s adorable, endearing, and the right level of ridiculous that will make you smile and cry in frustration. :’) they’re both so oblivious, i want to choke them. also jungkook is confused?)
  • Lurking Shadows by GrandDragon03 || taekook, yoonmin, nam2seok, platonic yoonminkook || m || wip || tw violence
monster hunter au; jungkook is taken in as an apprentice by the legendary (and also married) hunter pair, min yoongi and park jimin.
(this is so good? the world-building is a+. please read if you want to see yoonmin with their son jk and good writing. the summary is in first person, but the story itself isn’t written that way, i promise. jk is a reckless prodigy but yoongi’s working on it.)
  • A New World by lonelyonion || taekook, yoonmin, nam2seok || e || wip || tw graphic content/violence/character death
super powers/not today au; “Jeon Jungkook was born to save the world, that’s a fact. Everything else, that was spontaneous.”
(this needs more attention! it’s still very short but very well-written and i am sooo excited for where this is headed. there are also not enough nam2seok fics in the world. :’) also! author says not to worry about the character death, but let’s see.)
  • Breathless by makkurokuro93 || yoonmin || bg namjin || e || 37k || tw sexual content
swim team au; after an unexpected break from the athletic world, yoongi finds himself back in south korea as their national team’s new coach. everything is almost the same as when he left, except, now, there’s park jimin.
(admittedly i haven’t finished this yet. 🤷 but! it seems very promising and there’s a nuance to the writing that colours everything in this sort of hazy blue filter. it’s just really pretty, wow. i say this bc i haven’t gotten to the smutty bits yet, tbh. what i’ve seen of the characterisations are brilliant! will update this when i finish reading. ;; let’s scream together.)
  • Impractical Magic by springrain21 || yoonmin || t || 16.8k || tw dismembered toes/spirits
witch au; yoongi is the worst witch jimin has ever met, basically.
(so so so cute! thank you to the original creator of the tumblr post that inspired this entire thing bc it just makes me so happy. yg is such an endearing character, and jm obviously feels the same way. you will fall in love.)
Kingdom Hearts: Why are the Remixes Good?

I see people bashing the Kingdom Hearts development team for “buying time” and “making a quick buck” with re-releasing the Kingdom Hearts games on the PlayStation 3 (and later the PlayStation 4). “They only did it because they needed to sate your hunger with mildly new stuff in each collection, only trying to buy time for Nomura’s ignorance to the final installment.”

The ORIGINAL Kingdom Hearts, made for the PlayStation 2 way back in 2002 (I was literally a babe when that game came out, can you believe that) is probably the most cherished game in the series, but… also the most annoying to play. Platforming was a little jumpy then and the way the combat rolled out was sorta messy. Nevertheless, the game proved to be fun and full of good story.

The original developers lost the assets to the game and took the collective decision to remake it from the ground-up. This let them fix a LOT of issues the game had with it’s camera work and select cutscenes, including the installation of new bosses, weapons, abilities, and an easier-to-use reaction command system, or as people call it in KH2, “PRESS TRIANGLE TO WIN.”

In addition to fixing the mechanical issues, the in-game models were updated to their HD versions, Yoko Shimomura re-composed the soundtrack for the game, and many cutscenes and textures were upgraded to match the stunning HD of the PS3.

This was only the beginning. Since 358/2 Days came out originally on the Nintendo DS, cutscenes were limited in this game. The story was told through, dare I say, poor quality in-game dialogue with hardly any voice acting to back it. This did make the characters in the game feel a little less like themselves. The HD Remaster of 358 really helps to bring back that tie. It completely scrapped the combat system used in Days, but did well to keep up it’s heart-wrenching story. While there is no gameplay, it was a touching movie that I still shed a few tears over.

Albeit, nothing much changed in Chain of Memories aside from the final boss having a remastered soundtrack, it was nice to see the cutscenes in HD. And if you’re like me, that sweet 60 fps on the PS4.

“Storm, this isn’t selling me. It still sounds like a cash-grab. ”

UNDERSTANDABLE! I honestly thought the same thing a long time ago! Allow me to inform you more on the next addition: Kingdom Hearts 2.5!

Kingdom Hearts II is, arguably, the best game in the franchise via gameplay. The combat system is much less punishing if you get hammered, and very cinematic. You thought Ars Arcanum was a cool way to finish off an enemy? Try having the scripted event be throwing the enemy INTO THE AIR and SMACKING IT IN THE CHEST SEVERAL TIMES, then having it LAND ON THE FLOOR BEHIND YOU AS YOU STRIKE A POSE.

Vertigo Toss is the coolest shit ever and I don’t know how to top it.

How do you make it better in the Remix? Anyone knows, compared to Kingdom Hearts I, this “much better” installment was very lacking in secret bosses and bonus content to do after completing the game. So that’s exactly what the developers added: extra areas to explore, more bosses to fight, new abilities to abuse, cool content to have fun with, AND A HELLISH SECRET BOSS THAT TIES INTO THE LORE.

The game also added in new cutscenes to help explain what’s going on within the Organization, as well as Roxas’ motivation behind fighting Sora, and Sora’s resolve to thank Naminé for what she’d done for him. On top of very beautiful HD graphics and a new soundtrack, the game was enjoyable for the viewer and a challenge for the player.

Birth by Sleep didn’t receive much change aside from the new graphics and a few remastered soundtracks. However, the Mirage Arena was modified for single-player use, new bosses were added, and a new Secret Episode was included in the game after finishing the Final Episode. This Secret Episode would tie into the later release of Kingdom Hearts 0.2 on the PS4.

It’s well-known to hardly affect the plot, but some of my theories say otherwise. Coded was a fun, side-game that delved into the data world of Jiminy’s Journal. While not a whole lot happened there, it was a fun game that did hint towards new releases for the future. The Remastered movie pulled a 358 and completely scrapped the gameplay part of the game. It became a 3-hour movie, mostly for viewing pleasure and not exactly designed to move the plot of the franchise. But there were a few-tear jerking cutscenes in there. It was well-worth the remake.

“Okay, but I’m not seeing the point. This still feels like a time-staller for KH3.”

Patience, my reader. We’re on our latest Remix: Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue

yeah, i know, it’s a ridiculous name, but this is Kingdom Hearts, we all thought Goofy was dead for 2 minutes

Dream Drop Distance is infamous for being a mind-fuck to the viewer. While it has it’s flashy gameplay and interesting mechanics, the game is best known for it’s sudden exceleration in the plot with the introduction of time travel.

Yes, because things weren’t confusing enough. Plot aside, the gameplay didn’t change all that much. A few new Dream Eaters were added into the game, but aside from revamping the touch-screen commands, nothing really changed.

Here’s the real reason everyone bought 2.8: Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep - A Fragmentary Passage

Kingdom Hearts 0.2 was a completely new experience in the franchise. It had only been touched on in the Secret Episode of Birth by Sleep and this short game was only a fraction of what was initially planned. I look at this game to be a demo for Kingdom Hearts III, as it uses the finalized graphics, mechanics, and game engine that is to be used in the final installment, as well as having a final cutscene that connects to the beginning of KH3, as confirmed by developers.

The game should only take the average player about 2 to 3 hours to finish this game. It is VERY short, but very amusing. Featuring absolutely stunning graphics, beautifully orchestrated music, fun gameplay, and an immersive world, I find people replaying this small demo all the time. Not only for it’s fun gameplay, but also the character development and story.

Kingdom Hearts Unchained X Back Cover is an HD recreation of the cutscenes in the mobile game, Kingdom Hearts Unchained X. It’s best understood by watching and/or playing the mobile platform, as the story may not make sense without its guiding game. The remaster touches on the 5 Union Leaders and how they intend to fight the impending darkness, as well as introducing the 6th Apprentice and what his role just might be.

“I can see why that LAST one wasn’t a cash-grab, but it definitely felt like a stall… Storm, where are you going with this?”

I admit, I do believe somewhere in my heart that the Remixes were a way to keep us busy while Kingdom Hearts III was being developed. But in no way or form do I think they were meant to just earn money. Granted, they certainly did, but I doubt that was the goal that the team was going for.

Kingdom Hearts has received MANY new fans since the initial release of Kingdom Hearts on the PS2. And what with how spread out every game is onto different consoles, it’s hard to actually play them all. Tetsuya Nomura, game director and developer, stated in an interview himself that the main reason the Remixes were made was to allow Kingdom Hearts fans new and old to visit and revisit the series without having to dig up old consoles.

Kingdom Hearts 1.5+2.5 released onto the PS4, along with Kingdom Hearts 2.8 and the soon-coming Kingdom Hearts III places each and every game onto the PlayStation 4. Albeit pricey even now, every single game is accessible on a single console. Unchained X, or Union Cross, is still a phone game, but I do think they intend to recreate the story cutscenes and release them onto the PS4 in a potential DLC package.

“So… they made it easier for the fans?”

Not just easier, but they made this series mean even MORE to the fans. The recreation of 358/2 Days and Coded as movies, and the addition of new story content and gameplay material would not have been added if it wasn’t for the fans to enjoy. I don’t think I could love Roxas as much as I do if I didn’t get to see that HD Remaster of Days.

And with the release of Back Cover, it’s proof that they intend to bring Union Cross to the console players in some form or another. I can’t play Union Cross simply because I have a phone that doesn’t allow it to work properly. So being able to watch the “important” cutscenes in stunning HD feels like a privilege that I’m entirely thankful for.

And most important to me was the release of Kingdom Hearts 0.2, a practical demo for Kingdom Hearts III. It was a proof-check for the developers, so they could make sure that we knew their development was coming along just fine, so they could make sure that we LIKED what they were making and to see how they could perfect it for the grand title they’ve been working on for over 7 years. It was a reassurance that Kingdom Hearts III was on it’s way and that we would ENJOY it.

The Remixes were meant to tide us over, yes, but they were meant to make us fall in love with this game even MORE. So it would be beloved by our hearts and enjoyed by new ones. The Remixes, in all honesty, just made the Kingdom Hearts series better. I can say that as a fact.

1) This is my Blog I will post whatever I like as long as its not too graphic
(hence my special blog) and its part of my personal interests. Who the hell are you to tell me otherwise? You CHOSE to follow it

2) Don’t take your insecurities out on other people if it really bothers you that much. Hell work to be the BEST YOU, YOU CAN BE! But don’t go

“Oh theyre so pretty I’ll never be like them” Blah Blah Blah Then Don’t be like them, BE PROUD of who YOU ARE! and if you wanna work on being better than work on being better.

If you need to talk to someone talk to friends, your family or a Professional therapist but I’m not the one to take personal insecurities out on. Like I’ve said many times before I have my own personal insecurities that I acknowledge and actively work to fix daily. Hell if I see some Handsome ass muhfugga with 8 pack abs and money and hot women that doesn’t make me feel insignificant it makes me want to work harder to better myself.

Matter of fact here is a Quote I frickin love from one of my Mentor’s Books. That really hits home for me

“Here’s the thing,
when someone has accomplished
something you want to accomplish,

the best thing to do is
not hate on them
or try to marginalize them.

“They are rich”

“They were born with great genetics”

“They have an easy life”

“they dont know what stress and pain is like”

“they are on steroids”

“They were handed these qualities and didnt work for them”

They’ve got all these advantages BLAH BLAH BLAH

you know what you are doing right?

You’re trying to mitigate feelings
of inadequacy you feel when you see
someone more successful.…
Thats a total Bitch Move to be honest.

Whatever advantages someone has over you
It DOES NOT Exonerate you from the
responsibility of having to accomplish

Hating on someone/ Talking shit
about someone who is doing better
than you

In fact it will only hurt you
and diminish the energy you have
for your goals. Focus on them
and nothing else and the right people
will come into your life
and you’ll find that
your own success is so worth it
that you’ll forget about them”

So Anon you can be great too stop comparing yourself to others and work on being the best you possible.

Trails in the Sky - Programming Blog

Hey, everyone! It’s been quite a while since I last posted here. This is Sara, XSEED’s PC localization programmer! I’ve been buried shoulder-deep in my work on Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection recently, but I’m here today to talk to you about something for the Trails in the Sky games. What? Those games have been out a pretty long time now? I know! I just can’t seem to stop supporting them! Send help.

Jokes aside, here’s the deal. With the recent release of Trails of Cold Steel on PC with help from the awesome Durante, I’ve been hit by some strokes of inspiration of my own. Have you read his guest blogs? Go read his guest blogs! I’ll wait.

Okay. With that out of the way, I’ve got two things to discuss here that I’ve been working on for the Trails in the Sky games, and the cool thing is that you can try both of these things out right now on Steam!

- Turbo Mode -

If you’ve been following Durante’s blogs, you’ll already know the general idea of what Turbo Mode is. In Trails of Cold Steel, this is a function you can use to speed up the game by customizable factors just by holding down a button, automatically skipping most battle animations as well. You can even configure field speed and battle speed individually. Knowing that fantastic Cold Steel’s PC release might bring a lot of new players into the series, and thus, into the Sky games, I felt that adding this feature to the Sky games would improve the overall consistency of experience and help these players feel right at home.

This feature is available for testing right now on Steam! It isn’t quite feature-complete yet, though, as it doesn’t skip animations, and there are a couple of minor bugs. The bugs I’m aware of right now are that turboing in the field may occasionally cause you to clip through objects. Please use care when turboing outside of battle. Turboing in battle may sometimes result in some very minor animation errors, too. In the future, most of these animations will be skipped, and I’ll do my best to fix the clipping problem. In the meanwhile, please be sure to report any issues you may have with the feature to our support e-mail at!

For those of you who are playing versions of the game from other storefronts, don’t despair; I haven’t forgotten about you! I just want to make sure this new feature is in as good of shape as possible before I do a full official release!

That’s about it for Turbo Mode, so that brings me to the other thing that I’ve been working on…

- DirectX9 Version -

The Trails in the Sky series was originally coded exclusively for DirectX8. I always thought that was a bit odd, since other Falcom games of the era were given the DirectX9 treatment, or even released with both versions supported. “What’s that mean, though?” I hear you guys asking. That’s okay, I can’t blame you! You probably know that DirectX is a graphics API used popularly in Windows games, but at this point, version 8 has gotten pretty old. So old, in fact, that some vendors have stopped supporting it fully – most notably, Nvidia has long since removed full support for it on certain systems, especially laptops utilizing Nvidia Optimus technology. Those are basically laptops with built-in Nvidia graphics cards that also have Intel integrated cards included for less-intensive uses.

Well, people have been having trouble with Trails in the Sky on their Nvidia Optimus rigs for a while now, and I’ve always been a bit sad that I couldn’t help them out very much until now. I had been writing a DirectX9 version of the engine for a while, as DX9 is still well-supported and resembles DX8 fairly closely. Unfortunately, in the process, I ran into a lot of stumbling blocks that resulted in the process being harder than I’d imagined; it led me to understand why Falcom hadn’t bothered, either. As great as their code was, it just wasn’t made with DX9 in mind originally. In the past week, I finally overcame these stumbling blocks, though, and am pleased to announce a public beta of the DirectX9 version of the Trails in the Sky games on Steam! If you own the games on Steam, you’ve already got the beta now!

I’m basically looking to improve these versions and make them function as well as the original DirectX8 versions did before I put them into a wider release. So far, it seems like it’s working out pretty well! There have been a couple noticeable bugs – mostly strange blocky objects that appear rarely, especially beds for some weird reason – but given some time, I’m pretty sure it’ll all get ironed out. That means better performance ahead for pretty much everyone, especially Nvidia Optimus users! Further into the future, it will also lead to better graphics options that make the games look even better, so please look forward to it. You can help me out right now by testing out the new beta versions on Steam and leaving feedback on any problems you might find!

While I’ve got you here, though, is there anything else? Well, maybe just a little, yeah…

- Other Stuff in the Sky -

I always try to make it a point to support the games I work on as much as possible, no matter how old those games get. Along with these two features, I’ve made some small tweaks to the engine to adjust its performance here and there, and I added the long-missing “Monster Guide Button” that really should have been there all along. My bad on not getting to that one sooner! As time moves along, I’d like to improve these games even more, and hopefully continue to live up to the high bar of quality that people are learning to expect from us. I’d like to make better configuration tools, closer to the one Cold Steel has now, with even more options to help these games shine. For the time being, though, I’m going to keep fixing as many bugs as I can, such as the recently fixed New Game+ bugs in Trails in the Sky the 3rd. All of this and more will come to those of you playing from GOG and the Humble Store as well. Just let them have a little more time cooking in the oven. I promise it’ll be worth it.

I’d like to thank all of you fans for being there and giving so much support. Thank you to Durante as well, for inspiring me to do something you guys will enjoy so much. I am forever blessed to have the chance to work on these wonderful games that I dearly love. Until next time!

kyoandyuya  asked:

Do you watch Boruto? What do you think of the newest episode that covers Gaiden? Satisfactory or no?

ask me something you’ve always wondered

no I dont ahh its too childish and fillery for my taste. I am on 4G and i’m using my data to read and watch Haikyuu!! plus update my tumblr and study (ill watch gaiden when the whole thing is out when im back home with stable wifi). From what i’ve seen i’d give the animated rendition a 5/10. I am not impressed tbh, the animation style after the last kept going down hill and it’s at lowest point rn. The characters look nothing like their manga counterparts and they aren’t even trying to make them look better, the designs are messed up, the animation is so stiff it’s like you can TELL they used the same drawing and frames to avoid spending money. I am beyond done with SP. That scene with Sarada in the library is just unnecessarily stupid and makes no sense and the lead up to gaiden just shat on ss with the 2 minute date bullshit. People bitch that people who complain are setting the bar too high but? do these people even WATCH anime? Naruto has been shat on by the rest of the anime community for its shitty animation quality, inconsistent fillers and annoying fan base.

‘they just want to meet a weekly deadline!’ then fucking WAIT like other animation studios do…don’t fuck up kishimotos immaculate art, dont destory Tokyo Ghouls story in s2 and don’t help fuel Bleach’s shipping wars you unprofessional shit house. Why are anime like SNK, BNHA and Haikyuu!! held at such high standards? They give themselves time to ensure the best project execution. I am not asking SP to wait 90 years like SNK but holy fuck the amount of fillers and shitty animation quality is a viral joke at this point..RIGHT after the wedding episodes (which were made to be ugly comic relief style to avoid budget overload) boruto was released which already meant screwed up stiff frame animation that makes me so annoyed because SP CAN do better..they did some crisp frames for bleach, some beautiful fluid fights in naruto, some seamless frames in TG and all in all have had some great graphics. If they can pull some amazing animations like that then how good will they be if they fucking WAIT and do the simplest job- give people what’s in the manga since you are shitty writers and animate to the best of their capacity. Stop with the excessive fillers that shit on characters and add plot holes to the original work that the author worked so hard on and simply do your god damn job.

A simple example since -ic yall havent noticed ive been wanking the haikyuu!! series a lot lately- you started this rant, lets look at these two animation frames of 2 hinatas, one more superior than the other

see how the animation literally focuses on one drawing, moving the frame and adding that effect to give the LEAST amount of effort into the animation? Anime is meant to be pretty and fluid, this is literally just MOVING LINES.

look at this fluid ass eye shot where EVERYTHING is thought out, down to the wind motions moving the hair as he jumps. There is more than one drawing of the eye to give the scene fluidity and even the ‘still’ frames such as his hair are drawn more than once to make them move seamlessly and give them kinetic momentum. The hair moves with the wind and the eye focuses on the enemy as he moves. Thats an animation.

In fact, further wanking haikyuu!! (and literally any other series with a studio that gives a shit) here is a fun fact: in an animation of orange boys eyes, they are made to move with MULTIPLE different drawings, as much as SIXTY different drawings for an animation that lasts less than 5 seconds…and then when the studio goes into one drawing animations they make sure to add movements, shadings and vibrant backgrounds to still make everything look appeasing to the eye and fluid. Compare that to SP who do one drawing FULL BODY frames and do their best to avoid spending time and money to yield results that are as beautiful as THIS

In that jump scene the camera angle and fade out is literally just made to symbolize one of the characters view of the match as he is so absorbed into giving the jumping kid the ball and is so singularly focused on the ball…this goes FULL circle (yes they even kept that much attention to detail in mind) when the match is then shown in an objective manner for the audience with the camera angle showing us the height of his jump and it shaking to show us the impact of it all and then fades out again because orange kid is focusing as he spikes the ball…it’s literally a beautiful piece of animation. They went as far as animating an exaggerated idealized CORRECT and accurate to real life volleyball pose..the attention to detail pays off immensely.

Even when on a budget, anime is the art of animation..the entire genre of media is based on aesthetic animation. Every shading, shadow, camera angle given by the director, frame and drawing makes a huge difference to the visual story telling aspect of the story. SP not only fucks up the basic definition of an anime but they ALSO add their shitty writing to top it off.

sorry for the rant omg I went off on a tangent.

What about you? What do yall think?

Imagine yourself in one of those days in which you need to study and you need to productive, yet you’re too tired or unmotivated and need an impulse. Or perhaps your studying methods have been sucking lately and you haven’t been doing good lately.

Well, that’s me almost always. And I hate to look for tips online or in Youtube to end up seeing or reading tips like “get on your most comfortable clothes to study” or “highlight for remembering concepts” or “take away things that distract you” when I’m desesperate to find good advice, things that will make a difference on your studying quality,

So here are some random study tips that I’ve applying and that personally helped me. If they help you somehow on improving your studying and productivity, then I’d die in bliss.

It’s obvious that I didn’t invent them. These are tips the friends recommended me, that I read or heard on TED talks or that I simply applied naturally and realised later that someone else shared them to the world first.

So you’re ready for studying with tons of motivation and unicorn dust in your eyes. After 25 to 30 minutes your concentration starts to decrease. Is it normal ? Hell yes. The average student tends to be concentrated for that range of time and later, their efficency decreases. Solution: break your study sessions.

Have you ever heard about the Pomodoro technique? If you’ve been here for a while, it’s probably that you do. This is an example of breaking your study sessions after, usually, 25 minutes, taking then a 5 - 10 minute break to just distract yourself and then getting again into the studying.

Giving yourself a reward for concentrating 25 minutes on a subject or giving yourself the pleasure of distraction will not only help you regain energy to continue, but it’ll help you construct a studying habit and as you keep doing this, you’ll be able to study for longer but with efficency. And you’ll not die with a 4 hour straight study session and understanding nothing.

Taking good notes save lives. Fact.

Either if you use a computer or tablet, or prefer manual note taking (like I do, because there’s truly soooomething about writing everything in a paper that just helps me remember), you just have to give all your attention to the class.

Sometimes you don’t even have time to study well a topic or reading it properly but if you did give attention to the class, some triggers at a test could help you remember and take everything out.

Extra tips for good note taking:

>If your teacher explains a personal experience in which they applied what they’re teaching (not a personal life story), then write it down. I’ve had many experiences in which my teacher’s cases’ experiences have helped me much more on deciding what to do than theory itself.

>Compare your notes to some awesome friend or classmate that takes notes. Ya know, extra info.

>As soon as possible, go run to the teacher to clarify things that you didn’t understand or still had doubts.

>Add extra info right away. Most usual thing is that you gave so much attention to that class for the first time and forget about it as soon as it ended. Then boom, when studying for your finals you begin to remember the class that moment. In reality, It’s much better to keep that class alive while adding extra notes to what you just learned.

If I had passed (somehow) pharmacology and dental anatomy, it’s been thanks to this.

Summarizing has helped me be able to recognise what’s important of a lesson and what are things that I should remember or even memorise. And how have I’ve doing it? Writing it all on a adhesive note. I calculated the space I had to write down the most importand aspects of either an entire lesson or just a subheading, listing things that I had to know and graphics to help me remember. Later, when the exam was near I just had to look to my summary and right away, I’d remember it all.

On the other hand, teaching has helped me so much. We all have that one friend who has no clue about what’s going on, embrace that person and take advantage of how lost they are. Sometimes you don’t have to know all perfectly but just read a bit and then applying your knowledge on explaining it to someone. Make sure that your goal is to make that person have the same level of understanding that you have. It’ll help you not to only remember, but to truly understand the content.

It’s a great way of active studying because you’re making your brain recall all the information you’ve learn to summarize or make someone undersand it, and at the same time, you’ll be making sure that you’re truly understand the subject.

We’ve talked before of how studying actively forces your brain to go over information again But how is this so helpful? Making your studying active will make you more effective. So instead of memorising everything or reading endlessly until your mind catches everything perfectly, try to ask yourself what the hell are you studying. Make what you learn into something factible.

Facts or concepts

First, you need to understand if your studying facts or concepts.

Concepts include how things are working or what they’re really about. Imagine your studying phisiology: a concept will be about how the digestive system works and what are each organs functions. Once you understand how it works, you could just deduce in the future and will stay with you forever, you’re going to remember what is it about and it could help you remember facts.

Facts, on the other hand, are easily forgotten with time. And facts include, for example, what are the names of the organs that are part of the digestive system.

Understanding concepts first will help you deduce facts later. Putting concepts in your own words will make you remember them forever and ever.

Recollecting vs recognising

An example for this is highlighting. Now, making a proper highlighting technique has always been hard for me since I tend to get excited with it and end up highlighting everything (or almost everything) which is completely useless. A proper one is usually highlighting important terms or dates that will help you later remember everything.

Cons about it: You need a trigger. A date, a fact, a term, a word, anything that could make your brain explode and remember everything. That’s recognisition. You recognise that important thing of your notes or textbook and then remember. This is so dangerous since you depend on a certain little thing to remember concepts and personally, it almost never happens on the tests I’ve taken.

How to fight only recognising and to actually recall information? Test yourself while studying. Ask yourself tons of questions, play with images and understand concepts.

Don’t ever rely on just flashing terms. Not only for tests, but for actual life in which you’ll be using the information you’ve studying.

Remember that if you’re giving the effort to study something, you’re doing it to apply it later on your life. You’re making yourself fully understand how something works to build a criterion on the field you’re working on.

Good luck with your studying and I hope these tips were somehow help you or that I’ve explained the reasons why these could be helpful.
