and this game is so underrated but it's really good actually

anonymous asked:

Heeey. Sorry if I disturb you by something or anything but could you maybe list some good shows? (It's not a must that LGBT couples are included) thanks a lot ❤️❤️💫

Hi, Anon!

You’re not disturbing!

So I’m the type of person that watches a pretty random variety of shows so I’m not sure what your taste leans toward exactly.

If you have any suggestions, make a comment or drop me a message with the show and why you like it! And if you want, make a suggestion on how to make this list better!

** Is for shows other people suggest to me. I’ll comment if I’ve heard of it or seen any of it.

*I’ll try to put if it’s LGBT friendly. And also I want to put down if it’s diverse or not and a note if you suggest a show is diverse…I’m looking for either the main character that is a POC or more than 1-2 minor characters that show up often enough to make a difference to the plot. Don’t tell me a show is diverse if it’s 3 black characters are just window-dressing…👀

Let me see what I can remember and rec those and what I tried and didn’t like.

  • -Shadowhunters: I love this trash show. It’s actually not all that great but it’s got some absolute gems of characters you end up watching it for anyway. I def recommend but S1 was watched with a ton of skip Clary/Jace scenes for me. This is LGBT friendly and diverse.
  • -Riverdale: I tried man, I used to read Archie comics when I was younger but um, this show…I think it’s supposed to be ironically pretentious? It just falls flat for me tbh. It’s popular though so you can check a couple of episodes out to see if it’s your thing. There’s an openly gay character in this that should get more story than he does. Also, kind of LGBT baits too at times so not sure if I trust them completely.
  • -The Expanse: My sci-fi pick. I love this show. It’s gorgeous, diverse, rich story, funny without trying too hard. I just get sucked into every character. It had one older married gay couple that was really minor characters but I don’t recall any current mains that are. But It’s an inclusive show so I don’t think it’s particularly averse to the idea. Based on books I haven’t read yet!
  • -Veep: This is like a completely meant-to-be-offensive comedy show with the amazing Julia Louis-Dreyfus. While I wasn’t in love with the last 2 seasons, the first 4 are amazing. No clear cut character you root for in particular but it’s so close to politics you can’t help but laugh/cry. Watch it for the absolutely unapologetic legendary burns. Also, has a lesbian couple in it although it’s offensive comedy so prepare for that.
  • -Archer: Also another meant-to-be-offensive show that’s hilarious but so terrible and inappropriate. I don’t usually like that kind of comedy but I binge watched this when I was sick and got hooked.
  • -Vikings: I love this show. If you like Game of Thrones, you’ll like this one only it’s got less nudity and more idgaf fight scenes. It’s got brilliant characters, beautiful battle scenes, really interesting storylines, and just good snarky humor. Watch it! Also, they’re not shy about same-sex couples even if they don’t explicitly say it.
  • -Mr. Robot: Really good show, very different and…I actually don’t know how to describe it? The main has mental health issues. It’s a sociopolitical commentary type show. It’s about hacking and network security and corporation conglomerates in control of our everything and the fight against it. Also from @cherryrebel : mr robot has a shit ton of diversity in both race and lgbt, the lead is mixed race but the actor is egyptian, tyrell is bisexual, gideon is gay, angela, elliot and darlene are implied being lgbt+, i think i’m forgetting about someone but watch that show, it’s the shit
  • -Legion: A superhero show that’s so incredibly NOT like the other superhero shows. You'll find yourself in a serious mind trip thinking you’re the one that’s crazy. But it’s really really good. Go watch.
  • -Mozart in the Jungle: About a bunch of musicians and a crazy conductor you absolutely love. It’s really good. LGBT friendly! And diverse-ish.
  • -Luther: One of the best crime shows in my opinion. Idris Elba just does things and you will want to watch him do it. Anything he does is beautiful and brilliant. But the show actually IS brilliant and amazing and go watch!!
  • -This is Us: one of those, where-the-hell-did-you-come-from?? shows. Really heartfelt stories that make you laugh, cry, and go aww a million times.
  • -Killjoys: Another sci-fi show I love. It’s got diversity and great characters and great action and story.
  • -True Detective: Crime detective show. It’s great, very gritty and serious but good stories and character-driven.
  • -Humans: Sci-fi show about android robots that are part of normal life- they look human and are basically live in maids. Only five of these have consciousness. Really good UK show. Diverse AND LGBT friendly!
  • -Broadchurch: Another good UK crime show. Slow and gripping. @iamacolor mentioned a lesbian character in this one too. LGBT friendly.
  • -The Americans: Russian sleeper spies in America that lead normal lives, have American children, and are like totally Russians carrying out secret missions.
  • -The Get Down: Great show that was recently canceled :( has about 1 season out. I’m not sure how to describe it and do proper justice. It’s lovely though with amazing characters. Also, LGBT friendly and clearly diverse!
  • -Stranger Things: Great show sci-fi mystery thriller type show.
  • -Dear White People: Black college students from all kinds of backgrounds dropping truth bombs all around and being amazing. Also LGBT friendly. Go watch. It’s a balanced show with amazing characters. So both diverse AND LGBT friendly!
  • -Brooklyn Nine-Nine: an Amazing funny cop show that manages to be winsome, hilarious, endearing, quirky, diverse, balanced, and just amazing all around. V. LGBT friendly.
  • -Fresh Off the Boat: Asian family comedy show that’s endearing and hilarious. (Also check out Jane the Virgin for crazy telenovela-esque antics that are hilarious and cute).
  • -Orphan Black: Sci-fi show about clones. A really amazing show, LGBT friendly. Great story AMAZING characters…most of which is played by one woman. Diverse and LGBT friendly.
  • -Preacher: Great show based on the graphic novel…uhh not sure how to describe it but it’s good. Reth Negga is in it!!
  • Also adding Sense8 for its LGBT and diversity. Good show but I’ve heard something about the directors/producers being racist? Not sure so I’m recommending with caution because the show itself esp s2 where the nonwhite characters got a better fleshed out plot is good. But since I don’t know what the producers/directors have done, I’m giving a heads up for someone else to fill me in.
  • Poldark: I just started this one 2 days ago. 2 episodes in I’m really enjoying it. It’s from PBS’s Masterpiece series. Aiden Turner as a Cornishman is delicious. So far I adore his wife and immensely enjoying yet another period show.
  • Grantchester: Adding this to the list after I discovered it on my prime account. I’m only one season in and I love Sydney Chambers and his gruff buddy cop Geordie? This isn’t a show that is going to have you sitting on the edge of your seat. It’s totally a procedural type of show. But it’s characters are likeable, it’s story feels comfortable, and honestly, if it’s a shitty day for you and you just want something that’s easy? This is it. @iamacolor  :)

Why I want to stop watching the Blacklist (a.k.a., A Rant by Me)

This used to be my favorite show. Hands down. I would legitimately schedule things around it; I would leave events early to make sure I could watch it live; I would post about it on Tumblr and read other people’s posts the rest of the evening; I would search through multiple review site’s posts the next day.

I loved the dynamic between Red and Liz. I loved the mysteries and the little morsels of answers that we would get. I loved how, in the S1 finale, it felt like no one was safe: Meera got killed; Harold got attacked and nearly killed; Tom was shot and left for dead.

But, over the past few seasons, this show has become the bane of my TV-watching experience.

I would watch it, sure. But that was because I didn’t want the folks on Tumblr spoiling it for me. It was because I thought we were finally getting answers – which is what they teased us with every other week – only to feel so disappointed.

This last year, I made reaction videos for a friend of mine for every single episode. You know what one of the most commonly said things in those videos is? “Well, at least next week’s preview looks good.” Only to be disappointed in that episode, and to say the same thing about next week’s preview, and the cycle repeated itself until we actually got a half-way decent episode (which was usually some kind of finale or premiere, because that’s the only time actual shit can happen – during Sweeps Week).

Over and over again, both online and in person, I compared this to those scenes in cartoons where someone puts a carrot on a fishing pole in front of a donkey, and the donkey runs so hard to reach the carrot, only to never get there.

That’s how this show has felt the past season or two.

It’s only a shadow of what it once was, and I’m tired of it. I wish I could stop watching it.

So many other people I follow on Tumblr have said they’ve either stopped or thought about stopping. By comparison, Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad and the Walking Dead seemingly increase their viewership every season; the Blacklist has been NBC’s lowest-rated show in the demo for the last year, IIRC. The ratings for the Redemption spin-off were so low, the showrunners tried to pass it off as a one-off miniseries, when it was ALWAYS intended to be its own full-length show.

I understand that the show does well in DVR viewership numbers, and it was the most expensive TV show that Netflix had purchased when Season 1 was released.

But, this show continues to disappoint me. There’s hardly anything I like about it anymore. Hell, even James Spader, who’s a master at his craft, seems to be bored with it. His monologues are becoming more and more cliche, and even his amazing performances can’t save this dumpster-fire.

Its protagonist, Liz, is all over the fucking place in terms of characterization. First, she was naive and learned her “husband” had used and abused her. Then, she went to the dark side, chained him up on a boat and said she’d never forgive him for what he’d done. Then, she apparently forgave him, slept with him, had his kid, tried to remarry the guy, and then faked her death to get away with him and is now living her happy dream life with her little girl and her ‘perfect’ husband.

What happened to the dark, morally questionable, grungy Liz? What happened to the Liz who was jaded and afraid after being on the run for several weeks, or months?

She just settled down with a guy who she used to hate and she’s living the dream.

What in the literal fuck?

And, for all the time that has been invested in Liz, she has made little to no progress in her characterization these past few seasons. In fact, she’s done more of a 360. She’s right back where she started, more or less.

Why should the audience give a shit about her journey if she’s not making any progress? Why should we care that, halfway through this show, she has everything she’s ever wanted?

The side characters, like Aram, Samar, Ressler, Cooper and others are there just to serve the plot. Any time there’s a semblance of some character development or plot progression, the showrunners regress everyone back to Stage One so we can do it all over again. Aram and Samar look like they’re making progress in their possible romantic relationship? Fuck that, we’ve got to make sure Aram runs back to his abusive girlfriend and string this thing along another season! Remember when Ressler got shot, had prescription drug problems, and was in Narcotics Anonymous? Yeah, me neither.

Mr. Kaplan, who was best when she was on-screen to sass and help Reddington once every few episodes, gets pushed into the spotlight for some made-up bullshit reason that had never been discussed or hinted at previous to the “Mr. Kaplan used to work for Katarina Rostova” storyline. And while Susan Bloomaert is a fantastic and underrated actress and did her absolute best to make those scenes between her and Liz feel emotional, I didn’t really care about their dynamic at all because it felt so forced, underdeveloped, and out-of-nowhere.

Whereas the relationship that I care the MOST about – that between Red and Liz – that has been the most built-up and developed over the course of the show keeps getting thrown under the bus as Liz does the whole “love Red, hate Red, forgive Red” song-and-dance routine. She claims she agrees with Red when he tells her not to go back to Tom in Season 2… only to go back to Tom later in Season 2. She’s totally down with asking Red to help her whenever she’s a criminal on the run… but the minute her wedding gets shot up, she yells at him and says it’s his fault.

And now, as far as the Lizzington fans go, which I count myself as one of them, the show has written itself into a corner. Because all the amazing chemistry and romantic tropes throughout the show feel incredibly creepy now that Liz believes Red is her dad, regardless of whether he actually is or not. I don’t care how they try to pull themselves out of the ginormous hole they’ve dug for themselves on that one – why the hell would a woman ever end up with a guy that she once thought was her dad, even if it turned out he actually wasn’t?

And the only real way out of it is the Impostor Theory – a well-written and well-researched theory, but one that makes people have to do fucking mental gymnastics for it to work. You have to assume a lot of people like Naomi and Reddington’s former roommate from the Naval Academy who’s now an admiral, are in on it. Whereas dudes like Finch or the Director aren’t…

Don’t get me wrong; I think it’s a wonderful theory and it explains a lot. But, if it ends up being true, it means one of two things:

1) The writers didn’t plan this from the beginning and lucked their way into it

2) The writers DID plan this from the beginning, which means they have the ability to be really good writers, but then they fell into all this other bullshit – like Liz’s weird arc and other things – which really means that they’re not that good of writers; they just had the one good idea.

And if the Impostor Theory DOESN’T end up being true, in some form or fashion, that means that Red really IS Liz’s dad, and this whole fucking show – Red’s entire characterization, his relationship and dynamic with her – has been a lie. Canon can be throw out the window to rot in the sewer and fuck itself in the interim, because the writers don’t even care any more.

Which, I realize is unfair, because I know there are hundreds of people who work really hard to make this show happen, and while it’s not, like, the worst show of all time, the fact that it had such potential and has fallen so far, almost makes it seem worse than a show that was so bad from the beginning I never invested time in it.

And what makes it even WORSE is that the showrunners continue to act like this is the most groundbreaking show on television, and put it on a pedestal On High, along with the likes of Game of Thrones, The Americans, and The Sopranos… you know, actually good shows.

That would be the equivalent of the Taken director demanding that his movie should’ve gotten an Oscar. It’s like, you know it was a fine movie, and I had a good time watching it, but like, bring yourself back down to earth. Taken is okay, but it is NOT Oscar-worthy material, so get off your high horse, dude.

I guess, if nothing else, it shows that the showrunners, writers and actors are so talented that they got me to invest in the show to the point where I can’t not watch it, even though it’s fallen so far and I feel like it’s nowhere near as good as it used to be. They hooked me and got me to care about these characters and their dynamics so much that, even though it frustrates me week in and week out, I will still keep watching it.

It’s just that, now, I might be doing it with a bottle of vodka, taking shots every time:

  • Red has a monologue that proves James Spader is too damn good for this show;
  • Liz is bitchy to Red for little to no reason, while continuing to be lovey-dovey with Tom;
  • Ressler survives a fight or car accident or some other action sequence with no injuries whatsoever;
  • Harry Lennix is completely underused as Harold Cooper in an episode, because he only tells his employees to do the obvious… and literally nothing else;
  • Samar and/or Aram take a step back from getting together, despite hints that they’ve liked each other since Season 2.

So, bottoms up, Blacklist fans!

D9 you have a compilation of moments that made you go "yes Phil definitely loves Dan as much as Dan loves Phil"? Besides the obvious thing that shall not be named? I feel like it's underrated

Here are the ones I love that I think shows Phil’s love:

Festive DITL- Really, all the DITL videos, bot I’m not sure anything will ever top this one.

Making of TABINOF- I mean, love all around

Dan Plays Pokemon Go- The parts that include Phil are adorable. Actually, watch all the Pokemon Go videos. Phil even chooses what team he’ll be on based on what Dan is.

DanandPhilGAMES Bloopers- Pretty much every look Phil has ever given to Dan during gaming videos winded up in this blooper reel.

Dan Playing Piano- This is a complication, but a lot of it features Phil. The way he films dan playing, and just enjoys the songs. That’s love, bitch.

Quick Draw- Their banter, Phil giving Dan the spoon, “We’re not doing best of three, we’re doing three rounds.” There was a lot of cute in this.

Boncas- I mean, do I even need to say anything?

Dan wakes up Phil- The little kissy pout thing, the face he makes when he realizes Dan’s filming, turning his whole body into Dan as Dan turns the camera off. Good stuff.

Nov 26, 2016- This younow with Dan was and is still a gift.

Oct 10, 2017- Maybe Phil was only there for a few minutes, but I think almost the entire show could be dedicated to him? I mean, Dan talked about him almost nonstop, and he’s helped Dan film this video (I know they always help each other, but still). He also ordered food for them both without Dan even knowing he was ordering food at all. So, not only does he know Dan’s order, but he also knows what Dan would probably be craving. And he ordered them both milkshakes. And, although not on the video, he wore like 3 different yellow outfits throughout the day because Mental Health Day meant so much to Dan. He wore the yellow shirt with black pants, cheese costume, and yellow shirt with yellow pajama pants. And he did Dan’s nails for him, even though they probably both knew it would be a disaster. Like, they’re just there for each other, no matter what? And maybe I’m teary-eyed now, but damn what a liveshow!

I didn’t want to copy every video I put in the last request ask, but pretty much all of those qualify as well. Also, simply the way Dan looks at Phil when he’s in the room, like he’s the only one that matters, proves just how much Phil loves him. You don’t talk about someone through entire liveshows, stare at them during gaming videos, build them up with every outfit they try on (no matter how ridiculous), and give as much credit as humanly possible to a person without them loving you back, you know? I mean, Dan actually gets proud when Phil pranks him. He not only lives with this man, but he works with him, vacations with him, visits family with him, goes to conventions, travels the world on tour, writes books, etc. We may not see Phil’s “love” moments as often as we see Dan’s, but the fact Dan has so many love moments proves that Phil is quite possibly the best boyfriend in the entire world.

Aaaayyyy so I found a post where someone shared their top 20 favorites and I decided I wanted to make my own to xD I made this template myself and I have a blank one (tho without text at all, I can input the “Top 20 Favorite Shows” if anyone wants me to). If you wanna do your own with my template, just shoot me an ask or PM!

Hit the read more if you really want to know my opinions on each. I suck at summarizing so it is a bit of a read, sorry about that heh

  • and its right at the start of the semester break so you have all the time in the world to play your fave video game
  • i have  0 clue about video games so pls bear with me as i make up a lot of stuff lmao this is for the sake of the story
  • and what ppl around you don’t know is yes you play a lot of video games but they don’t know that you actually make money out of it
  • and ppl sponsor you to play for them and stuff
  • so tbh in this video game you are actually quite famous under your hidden id name which is flowerbloom
  • and its really amusing bc at uni you hear guys talk about video games and they’re like “i admire flowerbloom so much” or “i wonder if flowerbloom is a guy or a girl”
  • and you just slightly smirk to yourself lmao
  • a part of you wants people to know that you are flowerbloom as u were considered quite average at uni and in your course
  • but then you didn’t want it to be a fuss and for people to treat you differently
  • so you decided to keep it to yourself and so you basically had two identities which is pretty exciting
  • anyways in this video game there were quite a few users that were quite popular one of them whose id name was WANNAbetheONE
  • you played against them and you started to admiring for how fast their reflexes were and how skilled they were
  • after playing against him a coupe of times
  • you decided to message him through the video game chatting app
  • idk is that even a thing lmao
  • and you just wanted to let them know that you admire their skills
  • and tbh on this video game chatting app you get quite a few fan messages
  • and you try your best to reply to them when you can
  • so you think “WANNAbetheONE probably gets a million per day they won’t see mine” HAHAH r u kidding yourself girl
  • but u message them anyways
  • hello WANNAbetheONE, this is flowerbloom user whom you’ve played against a few times. i just wanted to let you know that i had fun playing with you and i really admire your skills. i am your fan and i hope you see this message
  • you thought your message was super cheesy but hey they weren’t gonna see it
  • you pressed “send” and went to  bed
  • when you woke up the next day you opened your phone and saw that you got a reply from WANNAbetheONE and they had replied within a minute of you sending the message last night
  • the message said: hey flowerbloom! i’m so happy that you messaged me cos i’m your fan! let’s be friends!
  • you dropped your phone in shock and embarrassment
  • shock because they actually replied to your message when they probably got millions of messages??
  • embarrassment because you regretted writing what you wrote especially about being a fan
  • you came back to your senses and tried to come up with a cool reply
  • but then your phone buzzed indicating that WANNAbetheONE had sent you another message
  • it says you read my message why aren’t you replying to me haha don’t seenzone me
  • you gasped and quickly typed a reply
  • haha omg sorry i only just woke up! thanks for replying to me i appreciate it
  • no worries i’ve always wanted to message you too ^^ how old are you btw?
  • i’m 19
  • really??? me too we are friends then :))))
  • that’s awesome!!
  • what’s your real name?
  • my name is y/n….i’m actually a girl haha
  • that’s awesome you are the coolest girl ever, my name is ha sungwoon
  • and from that day on you found out that WANNbetheONE was a guy called ha sungwoon who studied IT at the uni near you
  • you guys got along super well and chatted pretty much every day
  • and you guys would stay up late chatting about everything and anything
  • about school and life and friends and family
  • it felt like he was your soulmate and you guys connected so well
  • a part of you were really curious as to what ha sungwoon was like in real life
  • was he this chatty and outgoing in real life? or was he more awkward? what did he look like?
  • you even tried to find his facebook except none of the ha sungwoons you came across seemed to match the one you were talking to
  • you really wanted to meet him but you didn’t want to take the initiative
  • until one day he messaged you asking if it was okay to meet
  • hey y/n, we’ve been talking for a week now and i promise i’m not a creep, but i was wondering if you’d like to meet in person?
  • yes ofc!!!!! that would be great
  • and so you guys agreed to meet at a cafe shop that was between your universities
  • you were super nervous and worried about what to wear
  • but you opted for a casual look: a denim jacket, black ripped jeans and sneakers
  • you weren’t really into dresses and heels so you decided to just be yourself and wear what was comfortable
  • you arrived at the said coffee shop with 3 minutes to spare and immediately a good looking guy caught your eye
  • his hair was tousled and a lighter shade of brown, his features were sharp and he had high cheekbones
  • you lowkey hoped that the good looking guy was ha sungwoon
  • but you thought ha sungwoon sounded more of a nerdy name and that it was probably someone who looked like an average uni student
  • so you ignored him and ordered a Frappuccino
  • while waiting you sent ha sungwoon a message
  • hey i’m there, are you here yet?
  • yeah i am!! where are you? :)
  • you looked up from your phone and noticed that the good looking guy’s eyes were scanning the cafe
  • you stared at him unsure what to think
  • until his eyes made eye contact with you
  • he gave you the brightest and most beautiful smile and walked over to you
  • you realised he was only a little bit taller than you but he was really cute and handsome
  • “hey you’re y/n right?” says sungwoon happily still smiling at you
  • “yes” you reply nodding shyly
  • “i’m so glad it’s so nice to finally meet you!” says sungwoon
  • as he pulls you into a big hug
  • and you feel your heart rate go up
  • and you hoped that he didn’t feel it lmao
  • he let go and patted you head “you’re so cute y/n”
  • he waited with you and helped you take your drink to back where he had a spot by the window
  • it was kinda awkward at first since you guys both knew a lot about each other already
  • and the fact that you found sungwoon good looking didn’t help much either
  • it was pretty much silent for the first 5 minutes
  • and sungwoon couldn’t stand the awkwardness so he just said anything
  • “did you know that there’s a competition to giveaway the next version of the video game next month?”
  • you put your drink down excitedly
  • “really how do you know????” you asked happy and surprised at this news
  • “it’s actually super lowkey right now, but i know because my friend, taehyun’s brother works at a video shop in hongdae!”
  • and thats how the silence was broken and you guys talked just as much as you guys did online
  • after a few hours you guys decided to grab dinner together at a nearby japanese place
  • at the end of the dinner when you were fishing for your wallet to pay for your portion
  • sungwoon gives the girl at the counter his card “i’ll pay”
  • “ok - i can pay you back in cash now!”
  • “nah it’s fine y/n, since this is our first date right?” says sungwoon smiling at you
  • your heart starts beating super fast and you repeat the words in his head and he meant exactly what you thought he meant
  • *cue waitress swooning over you two*
  • this was going to be the best semester break ever

omg sorry i suck at endings  but let me know what you think of this series so far!!!!! also send me a message of which member you want next for this series!!!!

It appears Ed has deleted his Twitter. I'm bummed to see him go but it's probably best for him mentally. People are just gonna rag on him because he's very popular now and not underrated like in 2012 (not bashing, there's nothing wrong with no longer being underrated). I don't watch GoT so I don't understand why people hate his cameo so much. Can you explain, and what are your thoughts on all of this?

I know you sent this last night and Ed’s account is back now, but I’m still going to answer it because I have Things to say about Ed’s Game of Thrones cameo.

The people who hated it hated it for two reasons. The first reason was simply on principle, because they think they’re standing up for something. This reason is fricking stupid, I don’t mind saying. Please quote me on that: it is fricking stupid. These people don’t like Ed because he’s popular. There will always be people like this. They are ridiculous. Can you imagine disliking anything simply because other people like it? The bizarre thing is these people like to say they dislike popular things because they “have taste” or can “decide for themselves what is good” but what they are actually doing is letting the taste of other people influence whether or not they like something without giving themselves a chance to exercise their own taste and choose for themselves in the first place. They convince themselves something is shitty because they’re not the one who discovered it first. The logic – where is it? If I ever make an ass of myself complaining on the internet about not liking something on principle because it got popular without my help, feel free to put me out of my misery because I never want to live a life full of that much stupid.

So. These people didn’t like Ed’s cameo because they unreasonably hate him for being popular and he was on their favorite show, thereby ruining it. You just have to ignore the fact that their favorite show is literally the most popular show in the world. Otherwise their already ridiculous argument breaks down even further in the telling.

The other reason some people didn’t like Ed’s cameo is because they didn’t understand the purpose of that scene within the episode. It is admittedly longish for a scene in which not a lot of action takes place, but that is the point of the scene. Yes, it’s just three minutes of small talk between a main character and some soldiers she meets along the road, but the scene works to humanize everyone in it. Arya has just brutally murdered several of her enemies and is on the way to murder another one (probably several) when she meets these soldiers, the men loyal to the very people she’s on her way to kill. There aren’t really that many of them and considering her skill, she could probably kill them pretty easily, especially given how vulnerable they are in this moment with their weapons in a pile off to one side and the fact that they don’t think of her as a threat. She’s eyeing their swords because she is obviously considering killing them. But then–! They’re unexpectedly nice to her. The soldiers of her enemies offer her food and wine and a place by their fire, and they’re friendly and polite to her, and they talk to her about their lives, about what they’d be doing if they were home where they want to be instead of off fighting someone else’s war. The scene is about Arya realizing that these guys are just people like her, that they have families and hobbies and hopes, and that it’s not their fault they happen to be on opposite sides of this fight. They show her that they aren’t soulless monsters the way you’d want to believe about your enemies and so she spares them, proving that she hasn’t become soulless either despite what she’s done, and they all share this quiet few minutes of peace and humanity in the middle of their otherwise bloody and brutal lives.

The complaint from those who don’t get it: it’s boring. It’s three minutes of nothing happening because they just wanted to write an overrated popstar into the show. To this, I say: YOUR FACE IS BORING. And just because you don’t get it, you’re going to come online and act like it’s Ed Sheeran’s fault your mind isn’t analytical enough to understand the themes and nuances of your dragon show? Listen, this scene is brilliant. And touching. And sad and beautiful. It makes you question what it means to fight for something, what the point of it is, whether maybe there’s a better way – like sitting by the fire and singing a song together while drinking blackberry wine and being nice

The people who don’t understand this scene wouldn’t have understood it no matter who played Ed’s part, but I frankly think it was a perfect casting. A guy who is this famous, someone you might expect to hate but who actually has a reputation for being kind to people, playing the part of a soldier in the enemy’s army who is actually kind. Art imitating life! I love it.

Oh, and I guess the third kind of person who bashed Ed’s Game of Thrones appearance is just the usual trolls.

Here’s the bottom line, though: there is no real, logical reason to hate Ed’s cameo. I’m not saying people aren’t allowed, obviously. If they don’t like him, for whatever bizarre reason they can come up with, then that’s their prerogative. But  the fact is he looked great, sounded great, did as good a job delivering his lines as any of the other people in the scene, and was all around a pleasure to watch – and certainly the opposite of a show ruiner. And this is coming from a huge Game of Thrones fan! There may be other people - both famous and unknown - who could have done as good a job as Ed did in that role, but there is no one who could have done it better

And did I mention how great he sounded? :D

Alllllrighty, all that being said, and to address the other part of your message, I’m not actually convinced the twitter thing had much (if anything) to do with people dissing Ed’s Game of Thrones appearance. In fact, I’ve seen a lot more positive and/or funny feedback about it than negative. I think a lot of people - and the media - are assuming the GoT cameo was related because the two things happened within a day of each other and so the hate has been blown largely out of proportion to be used as a reason. But unless Ed or Stuart or somebody releases some sort of statement about it saying that was the case, I don’t think it’s necessary or productive to link the two things together. I’m content that Ed’s cameo was perfect, and his twitter account is back. :)

Okay, i need your help, You dragged me into the the beautiful mess that is red velvet, I've been spending the last few hours on a roadtrip blasting Body Talk, im in serious need of how to remember their names, PLS HELP ME HOW?????

How did i drag u into this!! This is pretty much a RV blog so you must have liked them already to find me HEH ;DDD but ok sit tight here we go this will be long and im sorry for replying late

Bae Joohyun aka IRENE | March 29 1991

She’s the leader. Yes she’s beautiful, the jewel of Daegu (where shes from) but that is ! not ! all ! She’s also a really good dancer and when she raps (listen to their song Zoo EDIT: OR OMG THEIR SONG CAMPFIRE HOW DID I FORGET) i die and when she SINGS i also die. She might seem a little ““““cold”””” but she’s just kind of shy (she’s opened up a lot more since debut) DONT BE FOOLED shes literally WILD when shes w/ the members. She ALWAYS wins when RV plays games and  she loves Wendy’s butt too! Fans refer to her using the bunny emoji (judy hopps)/watermelon emoji (her fruit in Red Summer era). She’s the oldest yet most flexible and likes to wear acupuncture slippers. Her hobbies include ironing and staying at home.

Kang Seulgi aka SEULGI | February 10 1994

This is the person in charge of CHARISMA in the group LOL She is the 2nd oldest and trained the longest out of all of them (a whopping 7 years!). Despite going through a slump (which she’s admitted multiple times) prior to debut she still managed to pull ! through ! and she is always so enthusiastic and precious! She sometimes has a delayed reaction to things skmfksd Many ppl consider her the best dancer in RV and her vocals are nothing to deny either!! I believe she’s supposed to be the best in Japanese out of the members?? She loves Pringles and her fav flavor is the original one (Pringles UK knows her). She’s apparently the least flexible member and fails at splits. Fans refer to her using a bear emoji (because shes soft like a bear) and the pineapple emoji! She also likes to draw!

Son Seungwan aka Wendy | February 21 1994 (shes my baby im going to write a lot)

She moved to US some time in 5th grade and attended middle school in Minnesota and then moved to Toronto Canada for high school! She was in her school’s choir and she did covers (legendary Halo cover) it’s really cute :(( She’s literally SONSHINE and is rlly nice to everyone and the members said their first impression of her was this incredibly kind person (at 33:55). She’s also really embarassing and awkward but it’s okay (watch their 4th ever v live). She also sings really well and has this amazing voice . Netizens attack her a lot for being the ‘’’ugly’’ member and call her fat etc which probably made her lose a lot of weight to look like how she is now which I don’t really like talking about because it makes me so sad… Her hobbies include baking and cooking food for other ppl (her seniors/staff/etc) and finding underrated songs! Fans refer to her using the hamster emoji/orange! Because I love her so much I’ve made like text posts w/ random info about her LOL so check it out if you’re feeling bored ( PART 1 / PART 2)

Park Sooyoung aka Joy | September 3 1996

She used to be the youngest before Yeri joined! She is “cutie sexy joy” pretty much the sexy member in RV and she loves introducing herself with a hair flip it’s amazing. She went on WGM and she’s imo the best member at variety ;) she is part of vocal line and has this really clear voice that makes you go </3 when you hear it!! She is also the tallest member and basically towers over everyone else lmfao Recently she turned into actress! Joy starred in a TVN drama called “The Liar and his Lover”. She is a troll and i love it (one time she told a fan to eat fart on UFO sadjkksk it was a joke obviously). She likes watching videos about training dogs and her dream is to become a dog trainer despite never having a dog beforejfdsksd Fans refer to her using a chicken emoji/ kiwi emoji!

Kim Yerim aka YERI | March 5 1999

She actually joined about 6-7 months after the others during the group’s cb with Ice Cream Cake. She got a lot of undeserved hate for it and OT4 stans can leave. She’s really improved her singing when RV made a cb with Rookie which Wendy has acknowledged and is rlly proud of her for (i can’t remember what time but its in this v live). She is also a good dancer! She got put with Seulrene for the dance intro during SMA 2016 . The fandom calls her a scammer lmao and she is literally the sassiest little shit but we love her for it. She’s also probably secretly the heir to SM if not the CEO already because she’s always really bold with her statements about SM LOL She also cackles and i love it; her dream is to become a vampire and she’s RV’s social butterfly and she likes making weird food combinations… Fans refer to her using the turtle emoji and the grape emoji!

Good Shit - The Adventures of Sam & Max: Freelance Police

WARNING: You can use facial masks to get the stains out. Thank you, take care out there, and enjoy. In dedication to Harvey Atkin, voice of Sam. RIP

We present Freakazoid’s Pulp Fiction

Ah, nostalgia. The period of life where you forget being a less depressing, ambiguous zit riddled hustler in favor of memorizing things that kept you sane. And this was one such piece. Back when Sam & Max took most of my weekends playing on the Wii, I looked around to find a cartoon of the same duo that dates back to the late 90s. At first glance, I could not understand a thing they said or did and so I kept moving. But now, I find it to be cult classic of biblical proportions. A show that can make balls invisible and make humans revert back to bonobos. Trump’s tanning oil could rain from the skies, angels could rob you on your doorstep. Darkness awaiting you at every blink. Your body pillows sacrificed before your gods.

Dogs and Rabbits. Living together. MASS HYSTERIA!!

Now it’s safe to say a problem that came with this show was that it was too clever for anybody. As the Nostalgia Critic said in his review of this, it’s a show that is so in its own fast paced world, neither a child nor adult can wrap their head around what this show wanted to be, or hell even what Sam & Max was supposed to be. Since their popularity banged with their game Hit the Road, people often wondered how it was successful when it was too vulgar for kids to get into and too innocent looking for adults to get into. Then again, there’s one genius element that most, even the Critic, seem to overlook to truly understand how the franchise in general have always maintained their honorableness in gaming history: Sam and Max themselves.

Zootopia’s finest since 1969

Sam and Max are and were two intellectually chaotic freelance crimestoppers that stop at nothing to get a case of theirs done. And there, that’s all you need to know. Put them in any scenario, no matter how crazy, surreal, or bizarre it is, and they basically work their magic with their unfazed & hostile sense of adventure and their practically synchronized sense of fast paced wit and humor. They have a somewhat universal setup, like Spongebob, Wander, or Rick and Morty especially. And while Sam is more collected and Max is more aggressive, they work off each flawlessly like Abbott and Costello or an actually funny SNL skit and their warped way of living just shakes the universe to keep up with them. They’re like The Tick, Jojo, or again Rick and Morty; you just have to know them to get into how their world works. And Sam and Max’s world is really anything you want it to be.

As childishly vulgar as you want it be

However, unlike most villain of the week cartoons, Freelance Police did lack that misery factor where nobody really suffered for their action, including the duo most times. While violence and anguish was present in the show, it was more tongue in cheek unlike stuff like the Powerpuff Girls or Animaniacs. So while the show was ahead of its time and pretty chaotic to easily get into, it just couldn’t stack up to the 90s slapstick and edge that many people obsess over to this day. But know this, said clever writing has lead to some of the most amazing adult humor, reminiscent of Tom Ruegger cartoons.

Be careful though, it can have Tumblr levels of humor too

I guess I’m redundant to say that Freelance Police is such an underrated gem, that even after Sam and Max’s 3D Trilogy of video games pleased me so, it’s sad that this can’t get much traction for a revival or a reboot of some kind. But, the series ended on a high note and I can only hope that with Sam and Max’s underestimated staying power, more adventures could come around. That is, if Telltale Games can quit it with these shitty excuses for Point-and-Click Adventure games.

Just callin’ it as I similarly see it.

Thoughts from a returning SnK fan

Like most fans during the peak of SnK’s popularity (2013-2014), I was pretty much going through a huge SnK craze. I remember following a bunch of SnK-related blogs, looking at fanart, checking and staying in the tags almost every hour, reading a lot of meta material, playing OSTs on repeat, the whole shebang. And like most fans, my interest dramatically fell by the wayside when the wait for S2 pretty much grew into eternity. Even when I got around to reading the manga (starting from where S1 left off), life became super chaotic and busy. But now I’m back! (And hopefully for good?) I’m actually pleasantly surprised that the fandom on here is still going strong. Obviously not to the same hype everyone was living up to back in 2013. To those who’ve been committed to the manga and fandom after all these years, major kudos and I’m sure your tired eyes have seen a lot. So although I had let go of this series, I’ve been playing catch up these last couple of months simply because SnK holds a special place in my heart. With everything I’ve gathered up up to this point, here are the immediate and nonsensical thoughts coming from a returning fan, fresh and untainted by years of shipping wars, fanon vs. canon wars, misconstrued meta discussions, and other fun stuff that comes with being in a fandom:

  • FOUR-year wait just for 12 eps ?? HHMMmm okay sounds fair ..
  • jokes on meE!! reiner was the protagonist this whole entire time!!1!
  • that serum bowl or whatchamacallit didnt need to happen for the plot to progress
  • when and as u get older, trust me when i say the vets really grow on u more, maybe more than the 104th *continues grieving over mike, nanaba, and moblit’s death*
  • jean and armin’s friendship is p fcking solid if u ask me. GOOD job isayama
  • we get to decide hange’s gender ?? *daydreams about female commander hange overthrowing the patriarchy esp the shitty mps and establishing a wonder woman-esque island where she, as queen, and other babes conquer the forces of evil* *me, quietly whispering to myself:* “yes, v good”
  • im p sure kenny was written in a way so that i and others despise and luv him at the same time CUZ ITS WORKIN on me
  • ymir .. u beautiful, tragic soul. how can anyone ever hate u…
  • eyebrow game still at its all-time high i see. u kno who im talking bout
  • gj on mikasa for learning to be less protective of eren and allowing him to grow up and mature
  • pieck, arguably the most beautiful eldian warrior, is given the ugliest titan (next to the beast). Disrespect
  • never thought i’d see the day i graduate college before annie breaks outta that crystal….
  • u kno that ocean scene? i am literally both levi and hange whenever im at the beach
  • uprising was arguably the best arc nothing makes me happier than exposing shitty politics, executing a coup, and i guess seeing gun battles between humans in a titan-eating world
  • nine, NINE members left in the SC?? oh i gotta see how this goes
  • leaving an inexperienced teen on the throne? i also gotta see how this goes *whispers:* “u can do it historia”
  • u mean to tell me, canonically, hange and levi sTILL have one of the most solid relationship dynamics to come outta snk ?? Sign me da fck up A++
  • *dot pixis going ballistic over jean’s omelette* u kno what, ill have what hes having
  • did i mention erwin didnt need to be pitted against armin but wHATEVER drives the plot and creates unending conflict between fans i guESS !!¿
  • the scene where zackly tortured that official? we dont talk about dat
  • the scene where levi wreaked havoc on zeke and the assembly line of titans? LETS TALK ABOUT THAT
  • new world and new characters in the last arc???¿¿ bc that four-year wait obliterated a significant fcking chunk of your fanbase lmao but sure, ur story, my cool dudes
  • everyone in official SC trench coats ??!¿ v good, v goodd
  • WOW isayama, the improvement in your art.. VERY NICEE
  • the original operations squad? Ah VERY wise card to draw. the new operations squad? WOW amazingg. but how bout i defeat ur cards with: Farlan and Isabel!!!11!!1 drawing this card will give 80+% of TLC to levi
  • so thats it huh. all that storytelling and character development just for the walled cast to get fking murked by titan-shifting warrior children from McMarleyWorld
  • me, talking with friends who used to watch snk: y’all kno annie still in the crystal lmao
  • aot: junior high kept my dying spirit alive while waiting for s2. if u havent watched it, are u even a fan ??¿¿¿
  • ty for ur immense contribution to humanity, ilse langnar, ty ty ty
  • even now, sasha is still incredibly underrated. her humor. her courage. her badass archery and all its badassery. valuable and indispensable character imo
  • already mentally preparing myself for levi, hange, and eren’s death bc how else will they go with the way the plot is heading amiright? *slips into complete darkness to process this*
  • four-year time skip, four-year wait for S2, new characters and new world late in the game, this series is a mess lmao

Any tips for an upcoming freshman? Thanks <33

aaah of course i wish you luck on your first year! i didnt think i wrote that much yikes

it’s very important to start the year off strong

it sets a mold for the rest of your year, so start some good habits ( and keep them pls) make a study schedule or smth

In addition, the first grading period is usually the easiest, so take advantage of that and learn what you need to spend more time studying on.

i feel like a broken record saying this but freshman year does count! so many people tell me this so i just thought i’d share that

also it’s that time of the year where you should try and make friends (in each of your classes)! literally anything say anything to a person near you so that it makes you seem more approachable later on when you have to do a parter/group project (i usually just like ask a question about the class or in school in general)

i ride the bus so this naturally happens to me, but on the first day show up a LITTLE bit early. this can allow you to pinpoint your first period class without the panicking part.

also just a room reading tip but say you have room numbers such as a123, b224 and c334

the letter indicates what building you’re in, the first number indicates the floor, and the last few numbers indicate the room number.*

please always eat something for breakfast (it’s unhealthy to skip :()

don’t be afraid to make friends with upperclassmen they’re actually rlly nice

but dont get attached bc they will leave and its life :(

also dont date upperclassmen because lots of slithering snakes may b rdy to take advantage of you (as i’ve heard)

maybe just avoid dating– but im not the boss of you, just make sure they are genuine and parent-approved wink wonk

that leads me to my next point of don’t let anyone take advantage of you.

whether it’s those slithering snakes or those girls who want the answers to an assignment, just kinDly say no because class>trash.

wow call me the Segway queen because the next advice is to avoid getting into drama

it’s only fun to watch drama, not be in it okay

kind of an obvious but be kind

to your teachers

to your peers

to your parents

none of them are paid enough to get treated poorly :(

plsplsplsplspls use your resources

no one is going to drag you for going to the library or asking your teachers for help (also my library is really nice and 100%  underrATED)

uh make sure you’re comfortable (in all ways really)

have a nice supporting backpack (no bags >:9 crazy)

wear comfortable clothes

its easier to focus when you’re comfortable

never jeopardize your education

i dont rlly need to explain this one but balance is key and if being in long after-school practices causes you to not have enough time to do your homework then maybe you should reconsider (thts what happened to me cry)

dont stress if you’re with a group of friends that may not make you happy at the time; high school is a small pool in the ocean of life winkw onk and you just have to wait to expand your pool

experience football games, dances, pep rallies,  (i dont like them personally but  i went just to experience it ig)

we are finally to the end wowooww im sorry for rambling a lot but high school is just another set of grades so as long as you stay disciplined and prioritize, i think you’ll be fine; ily and good luck

also i didnt proofread this AT ALL so yikes

also feel free to add advice

don’t think about how awesome it would have been to see just one episode of Gotham where Harvey Dent uses Edward Nygma as an expert witness to eviscerate a particularly nasty (excellent) defense attorney. don’t think about the opportunity they missed making Jim Gordon the arresting officer and having these two future super-criminals aid him in putting someone very dangerous behind bars. don’t think about the defense attorney trying to trip Edward up and cast doubt over whether he really is a reliable expert witness, only for Edward to humiliate him and make him look incompetent to the jury (because he can play word games, too).

don’t think about Harvey giving Edward free reign on the stand to demonstrate his genius and establish the forensic evidence as rock solid, and especially don’t think about Jim being impressed by Edward’s capability and wondering why they don’t give him more credit at the GCPD. don’t think about Jim approaching Harvey and finding out that Edward is half the reason a great deal of violent criminals and mobsters get any jail time at all, and don’t think about Harvey and Edward frequently working together on cases and being the underrated dynamic duo of Gotham’s judicial system.

most importantly, don’t think about how devastated Harvey is when he finds out what Edward was going through at the GCPD, how the officers there treated him, despite Edward being a crucial part of their arrests actually resulting in convictions. don’t think about how righteously angry he’d be that Gotham’s own police force was so corrupted it had taken yet another one of the good ones and turned out someone he’d have to put away if asked, someone he’d considered a friend.

don’t think about Edward’s path as foreshadowing of his own switch from law enforcement to law breaking, and really don’t think about the Riddler and Two-Face reminiscing years later about the people they put away together. don’t think about them laughing with one another about how terribly it had backfired on them when they ended up in prison among the men they’d put there, laughing because their other option is acknowledging the actual horror of it, a horror few men know.

(definitely don’t think about how Jim knows what that’s like, how he fights tooth and nail to keep them out of Blackgate because he’s been there- an ex cop surrounded by criminals- and he knows how bad it gets. he doesn’t hold it against Edward that he’s the reason Jim knows. Jim wouldn’t wish it on his worst enemy, and Edward was never his worst enemy, not even close.)

“So, of course that’s one of the reasons Hermione would be able to perform high-level spells even as a third year,” Charlie said quickly, her eyes concentrated on the computer screen in front of her. “I mean, wizarding family and blood doesn’t really play a lot on your magic capability – unless you consider Ginny, who was the seventh daughter in the family, but she was also just very good – so one of the strongest suits that came into play with Hermione was the fact that she had a good memory and that she practiced more than everybody else in her year. I think things came mostly naturally to Harry, at least in defense…”

You didn’t notice that your mouth had been hanging open this whole time, your book laying on your lap and long ago forgotten. It was lucky, in your case, that Charlie could talk and type at the same time, else she might have seen the way your eyes glazed over the curve of her lips whenever she pronounce certain letters, or how you admired the fast, calculating movement of her eyes across the laptop.

The one thing that always distracted you, though, was the brilliant shade of her hair. You loved the way it bounced off sunlight whenever you went on supply trips or hunts, a furious hue of ruby-colored strands that blushed under the sun. But then it seemed like the darkest shade of auburn in the night, smoothly running to her shoulders (although never touching them for too long), and always jumping with her laugh.

“…but, I mean, Harry is kinda underrated, don’t you think? He’s like this…precious cinnamon roll that nobody admires because they get used to his point of view throughout the series. He’s so amazing and brave, though,” she went on, finally looking away from the keyboard.

Her dark green eyes suddenly met yours. You blushed, quickly averting your gaze to the inky words printed on the white pages of the book. You didn’t even remember where you had left off.

“Yeah, he is,” you said, clearing your throat. Your tongue darted out, nervously licking over your lips as you prayed that Charlie wouldn’t say anything.

motleysaint  asked:

Do you like LWYMMD or Ready For It more? Which do you think is better?

Stacy!! Thank you for this question! I got so excited about it that my brain kind of broke and I couldn’t respond at first. (This is my standard response to writing about Taylor by the way; everything becomes Too Much™ and I can’t remember how to write clearly.) I’ve been working on this in pieces. If it seems disjointed, that’s why.

My gut reaction to this question is to say that Ready For It is both the objectively better song and also my personal favorite of the two. (Here’s my long post on it if you are interested.) And yet. While I’m *pretty* sure that’s still true, I keep wavering.

I’ve gone through a lot of stages with LWYMMD so I’m at the point where my feelings are very layered. :D (As is usually the case with Taylor.)

First off, I still don’t like the message that it sends, both because I think it’s unnecessarily petty about a situation which she handled badly (Snapchat Gate) and because her dredging up old drama for her first single in three years (!!) is not a great look for her. At all. She had a huge opportunity to do something new here- thematically speaking- and she didn’t. That’s still disappointing to me even if every Taylor fan ever tries to tell me that it’s actually a genius move.

Secondly, the song itself is a mixed-bag. It’s very uneven. I don’t like the chorus. I think it’s bad. And not least because it isn’t actually her! It is literally not her. It’s Right Said Fred’s chorus! (I do appreciate that she credited them.) But at the same time…it slithers its way into your brain. If you really lean into it, it fits a mood I’m sure we all feel sometimes- petty, taunting, a little bit self-congratulatory. A mood you can revel in even if you probably shouldn’t. So to a degree she still does exactly what she set out to do with this song.

Thirdly, the lyrics are pretty solid. Not her absolute best, but pretty good. The images are strong and unusual and slightly old-fashioned (her M.O) (catch Taylor referencing an IPhone she would nEVER). Perfect crime, tilted stage, and all the references to kingdoms and feasts and dramatically being locked out- these feel right and very Taylor. Her delivery in this song is what really elevates the lyrics though. (In general I think her delivery is underrated by fans and critics.) She sells each one of these lines so deliberately and so seriously and her vocal choices are so interesting. My favorite vocal moment in the song comes when she hisses/whispers on the word “they” when referencing the kingdom keys in the second verse. She breathes so much venom into that one line and instantly the verse has so much more texture and color. It’s impressive!

Buuut to return to the first point: I’m still uninterested in much of the actual lyrical content. However creatively she tries to phrase it, she’s still pointing the finger and assigning blame. At this particular moment I’m not interested in discussing whether or not she’s right to do that. (Who am I kidding i will FIGHT you in the parking lot if you really think that Taylor is never at fault, especially in reference to Snapchat Gate.) The point is that her doing that is tired and it’s worn out. She’s done it before, better than this and with more justification and with more fire. I’m pretty comfortable calling the overall message of this song a misstep- artistically as well as personally.

But for all that I think there are quite a few moments of magic in this song, moments where for a few seconds the song really comes alive and makes you understand what this whole thing COULD have been if she had rethought some things. Not incidentally, these are the same moments where she hints at feeling something more complicated than outrage for another person’s actions. I want to say it’s “where she takes accountability for her own involvement” but it’s probably more accurate to say it’s “where she briefly flirts with the idea of personal accountability”. (John Fahr

Moments of accountability are important to me both because I think they more accurately reflect the whole truth but also because they make a song more interesting to me! She’s so good at blending emotions together and giving you something that’s layered. Her happiness is always a little sad. Her sadness can be cheeky. Her anger can be full of obvious relish. When she admits that she’s wrong, she becomes a hundred times more interesting as an artist in part because she’s embracing the layers of being angry at another person AND at yourself. She’s showing that she’s not and doesn’t have to be one thing. When she points fingers (again however justified you think it is), she becomes increasingly one-note. It falls flat because there’s only one thing happening. When she acknowledges the role she has played in a situation, everything becomes more textured, more interesting, more truthful.

In my opinion she doesn’t do that enough in this song. @thelonelybrilliance perfectly pointed out that it should have been ended with the line “look what I made me do” and GAH. How perfect would that have been!! How beautiful!! How clever!! how TRULY subversive!! (Unless we think she’s talking to herself when she says “look what you made me do”. Which would be an awesome twist I would love!! There’s not a lot to back that up and we can’t know that until we’ve got more context so for now I’m taking her seriously. Anyway.) My point is, no, she doesn’t do that nearly enough but she does it some and it matters. It is not unimportant because nothing she includes in a song is unimportant. (Sidenote: is the fact that Taylor is so serious about herself part of her appeal? Is it also what makes her grate? Discuss.)

The Moments of Magic are as follows:

1. But I got smarter I got harder in the nick of time
Honey I rose up from the dead I do it all the time
I got a list of names and yours is in red underlined
I check it once, I check it twice- OH!

Pretty self-explanatory. This is a killer pre-chorus that deserves a better song. It’s heart-thumping and exciting it makes you think that you’re headed for an amazing pop explosion AND she compares herself to Santa and references Mean girls in the same line- which may be the most Taylor Swift thing to ever have happened? (No really, is this not the most on-brand, authentic, amazing, and hilarious thing to happen? I love it.)

2. The world moves on- another day another drama
But not for me, not for me all I think about is karma
And then the world moves on but one thing’s for sure

Maybe I got mine but you’ll all get yours

This is a lot of people’s favorite line/part. Because it’s instantly iconic and hilarious and recognizable. I love it because it’s the first time in the song where she even begins to deviate from her blame game and also because it’s dripping with sarcasm and exaggeration and a hint of self-mockery (as well as mockery of fame and gossip in general?).  I was talking to @thelonelybrilliance about this line and she was saying that if Taylor means this perfectly seriously, she has to know how sad that is, right? Anyone sitting around fixating on “getting revenge” and “karma” while the world moves on around them is, to an extent, pathetic. It’s understandable but it is pathetic. That’s why I think that, even though seriousness is part of Taylor’s brand and personality, she might mean this more on a performative level? (Maybe?) The word choices feel too mocking to me. It’s almost lighthearted in the caricature it draws. She knows what we think of her feuds, that we’re all tired of them, that the world literally moves on, that we think she gets too caught up in “drama, drama”. She herself shares some of that scorn. And I do think it is scorn underscoring these lines- scorn that is directed both at herself and at the celebrity gossip cycle that she participates in so willingly most of the time. She sounds a little sick of it all honestly and I love it. Yes the grudge and the bitterness and the force of Taylor’s anger and “never forget this” attitude is still there. But is there a hint, a faint suggestion that she’s tired of her own inability to forgive and forget holding her down and keeping her fettered to this drama, drama? It’s not the focus of this song, which is straightforward in its “I will HUNT YOU DOWN AND TAKE WHAT’S MINE” cry for vengeance. But still.

Maybe I got mine is a grudging line that is passed over quickly in favor of but you’ll all get yours (-a great line that manages to be both quietly threatening and full of open swirling anger at the same time) so it’s not the most direct admission of guilt. But it IS one and I love it so much. It’s one of her “throw-away” phrases- you’re not supposed to dwell on it- but in the grand tradition of Taylor Swift it’s the throwaway lines that tell the greatest stories. They add layers and credibility to her original story because they suggest that human interactions are rarely simple or easy, but have deep and complicated roots.

Remember that line in “Tell me why”? Yes I remember what you said last night. GOSH. It makes the whole song for me. She’s referencing something we don’t know anything about so even though it seems like it doesn’t belong in the song, that line is the thing that makes the song great. It’s a truth of being human that people can’t ever fully understand another person’s fights or struggles from the outside. Every relationship is made up of a history known only to the two involved. A whole slew of looks and actions, previous fights, inside jokes, of the knowledge that comes with living a life with another human being are all a part of every personal fight, almost creating it. from the inside out. To explain everything that’s happening in a fight to an outsider is almost impossible. But to remind someone listening in -in this case us- that there’s more going on than they (we) may know about is to lay bare the truth that we seldom know the rich, inner history of another person’s heart and experiences.

So I take this throw-away line, Maybe I got mine, as one of the most important in the entire song- both because I really, really want to see more of this side of Taylor and also because it makes me see this song in a new light. As only one piece of a larger puzzle. As only one perspective on a situation. When I think of it that way, I understand her anger better, especially when applied to her situation more broadly. But you’ll all get yours makes perfect, righteous sense when directed at bandwagon taylor haters, bored teenagers on twitter writing hateful things, or buzzfeed writers who decide to use her as human sounding board for their political discussions and critiques.

3. I don’t trust nobody and nobody trusts me

I think everyone agrees this is the best part of the song. Or at least in the running. It’s a great moment musically and lyrically. When I heard the song for the first time, I was struck the most by this line. To me, this was the first line that really showed what I felt was going on in her heart. (Maybe I got mine comes closest but this one is more revelatory.) It’s intensely personal. I feel that it cuts right to the heart of what I imagine she was feeling after the Kimye situation spun out of control. I’d guess it’s what she has felt and continues to feel with every acceleration of her fame (even though Taylor definitely wants to be famous.) It’s a really sad line. It’s lonely. It’s isolating. It’s cold. On the surface that’s not what it is of course. On the surface it’s guarded and it’s coy and a touch triumphant, sung like this (and she) is a mystery she’s happy to be. It definitely feels like a deliberate closing of the curtain into her personal life, a shot that says “no one knows the truth because my situation is too unique” so I’ll embrace a part for you. (She literally follows it up with I’ll be the actress starring in your bad dreams.) This line is why I understand why Brian Mansfield calls this song “a wall she sends up to protect herself”. And it is. But all of that can be true and it can still be a heartbreaking sentiment, something that on some level really hurts her. I think the fact that nobody trusts her hurts her just as much as not being able to trust anybody else. Even if some of that is her fault.

I also love this line because it feels like the first time (maybe ever) that Taylor has openly engaged with the idea of her fame. Even though it’s a tiny moment, to me it showcases the two things that have always been the most fascinating about her as a celebrity: her eagerness to perform, to be the best, to climb those heights (the video is great in that it literally shows her doing that) and the pain that comes with the cost of being at the top. She’s never tapped into that fully before. But I know that it’s there. I know there is a part of her that is hurt by the heights of her own success. Not enough to quench her ambition or her drive and that ruthless desire to be at the very top, but enough to sting. Enough to chafe.

4. the background vocals and layers added the second time the pre-chorus comes around

One reviewer pointed out that the song gets louder as it goes and adds more and more layers until it’s a beautiful, stormy crescendo. I think it’s brilliant.

[But then. That chorus. Again. So disappointing. It’s flat and weird and doesn’t even make any sense and ughhhhhhhh.]

Aaaaaand there you go. That pretty much sums up my feelings on this song. It has flashes of brilliance and definitely flashes of the old Taylor. (She’s dead? Uh-uh. Yeah rIGHT. In some ways this is the most Taylor Swift-est of Taylor Swift songs. :D)

Really, I can’t wait until I can hear the whole album so I can put this song in proper context. I know what I want that context to look like. I want reputation to show us more of her inner pain. I want it to be an album that is about the cost of fame as much as it is about getting back at those who dehumanize her to make a point (or score points on social media). But who knows?

If I can count on anything, it’s that Taylor probably won’t do what I want her to do, but I’ll have thoughts and opinions and feelings anyway. :D

Speaking of, thank you for wanting to hear mine and for saying you’d read it no matter how long it was. I hope you enjoy this!

What do you think of people who claim that Sonic wasn't good since Adventure 2 or '06 or whatever? Are you into Sonic anyway?

yes i am into sonic actually, used to be a major sonic fag on deviantart back in ‘11

anyone that says sonic hasnt been good since adventure 2 is fucking dumb lmao. they probably just take a quick glance at the game, go “wheres the chao garden?!?!?!?” and dismiss it as shit

it’s even worse when they act like sonic wasnt good since sonic 3. like nigga you even play the games? or did you look at the box art, see it has a gimmick and dismiss it as trash. maybe they even saw the first minute of gameplay and thought to themselves “wow another shit sonic game”

like granted, hes had more bad games then good, but each game tries to be something new, and when it works, it really fucking works. even if it is bogged down by something occasionally.

sonic adventure had excellent sonic, tails, knuckles, gamma and even amy levels, with sonic having like twice as many as anyone else of course because its his game, but making you play as big to get the super sonic ending was just ugh. i didn’t really mind reusing some levels for each character that much tho, since their gameplay is all every different.

i never played sonic shuffle, so i cant comment on it. but it seems like a shitty mario party wannabe, so im not exactly in a rush to play it

sonic adventure 2 made sonic and shadow control like a dream with some absolutely fantastic stages, but you only got to play as them for 1/3 of the game. tails was put in his mech so you dont get his fun race levels from sa1 and instead when you play as him or eggman, you get to hear nonstop beeping as you hold on to a button and then release as you use this clunky fucking mech to get through an obnoxious level, knuckles had his emerald radar gimped and his levels fucking massively extended so playing him and rouge feels like a mind-numbing chore, especially in that space level. 1/3 of the game is honestly unbearable. like sa2 is really really bad when you’re not playing as sonic or shadow. and even then, their levels are hit and miss. i’d say there are only like 3 or 4 really good levels in the game. fuck sa2

sonic heroes is an underrated gem of a game. it might be a bit hit or miss, but it’s still very good despite the flaws. the hero switching mechanic, while not perfectly executed, was a neat take on the sonic adventure formula. no more entire levels dedicated to tales and knuckles, now you can only play as sonic for most the game unless something needs tails or knuckles. it was also an interesting take tying difficulty to the team you pick. team sonic is normal, team rose is easy, team shadow is hard, and team chaotix is a special little extra mode where you have to do objectives in each level. it’s neat. but it would be better if it didnt make you do the same levels 4 times. you should be able to get to the final missions without doing all 4 teams if they’re just gonna be different difficulties. but the stages are mostly great, especially that second world. and they brought back bonus stages, and fuck they’re good in this game. honestly i find heroes hard to even dislike. it might not be perfect, but fuck it makes up for its flaws

things got a bit shit after heroes though, i will admit. shadow is trash, 06 is only good because its so bad, the riders series is zzzzz…., who gives a shit about sonic rivals, secret rings is one of the worst games i have ever played, the olympic games series is just dumb party games that use motion controls. better than the recent mario party games at least.. however, when it seemed like sonic went to shit, if you owned a nintendo handheld, you’d notice that actually good sonic games were still coming out during these years. most notably, the advance games. honestly, until sonic mania, sonic advance was the real sonic 4. pure 16-bit side-scrolling sonic platforming. 3 was a bit meh though because of a dumb teamwork gimmick. then theres sonic rush, which is just a huge step up from advance with boost gameplay before it was even in the 3d games. it was fucking good. even sonic battle was pretty alright despite being kind of all over the place

after the dark years though, sonic games were getting back on track. sonic unleashed came out, and we were treated to absolute kino daytime stages. and unfortunately sub-par werehog stages. they’re not good, but worth getting through to get to the real levels. even then, the werehog levels are nowhere close to being as bad as all the non-sonic/shadow levels in sa2

then black knight came out and it was… better than secret rings at least…

all-stars racing is really good. better than most mario kart games honestly. not much else to say about it.

sonic 4 ep 1, i havent played more than the first level of because i’ve heard some stories. bad stories. i dont want to experience that mess.

hell even sonic 4 episode 2 managed to be pretty alright.

fucking sonic and all-stars racing transformed is one of the best racing games i have ever played and is a thousand times better than the first

sonic lost world, i havent played too much of, but i honestly really liked what i played. the parkour in it is great, even if sonic isnt super fast in this game. if only the worlds didnt feel so… bland and generic. and fuck the villains.

sonic boom i feel had potential. if you look into the development of it, you’ll see just how much ambition it had and how the devs had some interesting ideas. but a ton of things got in the way, and we ended up with sonic 06-2. i didnt even bother with fire and ice though.

like, sonic has had plenty of bad games during this time, but most of them are just dumb spin-offs. the main series has been consistently great with the exceptions of sa2, shadow and 06

seriously, anyone that still thinks sa2 is good and was the last great sonic game is severely blinded by nostalgia.

Good afternoon, I was wondering, given some previous talk about Troma, where to start with their various works? Also, I can't seem to find your ask page from your theme, had to type it in manually.

I’m surprised anyone can ever find it.  It’s hiding in the little red and white question mark (EDIT: Welp, nevermind.  For some reason, it ain’t there.  Gonna have to fix that).  My theme is desperately in need of a change, but that is yet another thing that I cannot do until I can get this “licensing has stopped working” crap figured out that’s preventing me from running Photoshop.

When it comes to Troma, they fall into two main categories: Films produced in-house, and films acquired for distribution.  The best place to start with Troma is their in-house productions (luckily, Troma has made most of their library available to be watched online via their official Youtube channel, so clicking each title will take you right to the movie!  However, I highly recommend picking them up on DVD or Blu-ray if you end up loving them, because the releases are always loaded with hilarious and wonderful extras):

  • Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D. (1990) - Save for the Toxic Crusaders cartoon series, this would be your gentlest introduction into the Troma film universe, as it was–under the funding of Namco (yes, that Namco)–intended to appeal to a wider audience than most Troma fare.  It’s honestly one of the greatest and most enjoyable films in existence.
  • The Toxic Avenger (1984) - The film that first brought Troma widespread acclaim, this is absolutely quintessential viewing for anyone interested in the company’s films.  There is no choice.  Unfortunately, this one is not located on Troma’s Youtube channel, but you can still watch it for free online at Frightpix (they have an entire section dedicated to just Troma movies!).  Frightpix is also available as an app via Xbox Live as well!  There are currently three sequels in the Toxie saga, and they are also all worth watching (the first two were originally shot as a single film in Japan, where Lloyd and the crew won the affection and respect of the Japanese filmmakers they worked with by adopting Japanese customs while living there for the filming).
  • Class of Nuke ‘Em High (1986) - One of my personal favorites, mainly because of The Cretins.  If you’re also a fan of raunchy 80′s high school movies, this one’s for you!  There are four sequels following this one, with the latest being Return to Nuke ‘Em High Vol 1 (2013), and Return to Nuke ‘Em High Vol 2 (2016) (the latter will be out this year).  While I haven’t seen the series’ comeback, I personally enjoyed the first two Nuke ‘Em High sequels, even though I can understand why others didn’t care for them.
  • Troma’s War (1988) - This one got ol’ Uncle Lloyd in a bit of trouble back in the day, and it’s easy for the average person to see why.  It’s certainly not for the easily-offended (i.e., tumblr), but if you have a reasonable sense of humor, it’s…ridiculously entertaining.  I adore it.  Morton Downey was an asshole (if you don’t know how this is related, take a look).
  • Tromeo and Juliet (1996) - This is about as far-removed from the Bard as it gets, but this Tromasterpiece carries the honored distinction of being co-written by James Gunn, who would later go on to write the dialogue for Dawn of the Dead (2004) and Lollipop Chainsaw (2012), as well as write and direct Slither (2006) and Guardians of the Galaxy (2014).
  • Terror Firmer (1999) - It was this film that caused the Troma crew to run afoul of the NYPD numerous times, to the point of having their filming permit revoked (which, of course, didn’t stop them.  If Larry Cohen can shoot without permits, why can’t Lloyd Kaufman?).
  • Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead (2006) - I will forever lament that I didn’t find out until too late from an ex that there was a screening of this within driving distance where Lloyd went out to lunch with a bunch of the audience afterwards.  I have had people reproach and shame me for recommending this movie to them.  I stand by my decision.
  • Mother’s Day (1980) - While this was made prior to Troma developing its distinctive style (at the tail end of the “sexy comedies” era that came prior to the unleashing of The Toxic Avenger upon the world), it was written and directed by Lloyd’s brother, Charles Kaufman, with Lloyd and Micheal Herz serving as associate producers.

Now, when it comes to the films picked up by Troma for distribution, not all of them are gems (Lloyd will be the first one to admit this, especially if anyone mentions Croaked: Frog Monster from Hell).  There are some films that became known due to being part of Troma’s distribution library, but have since been picked up by other distributors, and are thus no longer under Troma’s label, such as Chopper Chicks in Zombie Town (1989) (believe it or not, My Neighbor Totoro was originally distributed by Troma!!  They were the ones to first bring it to the United States!), so I can’t rightfully recommend those particular films in this post.  However, I can recommend a few that are still under their distribution, and are very much in line with the spirit of the company:

  • Redneck Zombies (1989) - Anyone that’s been following me long enough saw this entry coming.  Yes, this film is crude, shot-on-video (complete with cheap video distortion effects!), and sports plenty of offensive toilet humor and lampooning of sexuality that would never past muster with today’s audiences.  It’s beautiful.
  • Combat Shock (1984) - This is a film that requires an amount of patience to really appreciate.  It’s ugly, grueling, and has no happy ending, which is exactly how it should be.  Despite some outrageous elements, this is not a “fun” movie.  It’s a man’s life completely breaking down.
  • Cannibal! The Musical (1993) - Before they found mainstream success with South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone created a musical about notorious American cannibal Alferd Packer.  Troma was the only company willing to take a chance on it.  After their show debuted on Comedy Central to massive success, many companies tried to talk Parker and Stone into cutting ties with Troma, and passing distribution to a bigger company.  Both Troma fans, the pair declined, and it remains a proud part of the Troma library.
  • Surf Nazis Must Die (1987) - Not gonna lie: You’re either going to love this movie, or fuckin’ hate it.  There doesn’t seem to be any in-between.  It’s either going to be the most boring thing you’ve ever seen, or one of the most strangely charming.  Either way, it’s got a badass old black lady busting out of a retirement home, and blasting the shit out of a bunch of Neo-Nazis.  Long Live Leroy’s Mama!
  • Rabid Grannies (1988) - This oddity from Belgium (don’t worry–it’s in English) takes a while to get going, but once it does, it’s…something else.  I think it at least deserves credit for having some amazing poster artwork.  Also, it’s demonic old ladies killing and eating their relatives.  That’s a good afternoon watch right there.
  • BUTTCRACK! (1998) - Admittedly, this isn’t a feature-length film.  It’s also not exactly a cinematic masterpiece.  What it is, though, is…uh… Hmm.  I’ll leave that up to you to decide.  “Churn the milk and make it butter, churn the milk and make it butter!”
  • Monster in the Closet (1986) - Always believe your kids when they say there’s a monster in their closet, because they might just be telling the truth.  Notable for two reasons: First, it features a very young “Fergie” in her film debut.  Secondly, it’s got LGBT monster representation: Why do you think he’s in the closet?  This horror spoof is a lot of goofy fun–give it a chance!
  • Ferocious Female Freedom Fighters (1982) - Before there was Kung Pow: Enter the Fist (2002), there was this.  Previously a serious Indonesian action film called Perempuan Bergairah, Charles Kaufman got his mitts on it, and filled it full of toilet humor and absurdity.  Needless to say, the original director wasn’t pleased.
  • Def by Temptation (1990) - This supernatural thriller, written and directed by James Bond III (yes, that’s his name), revolves around the lives of young black men in America, and has some surprisingly, subtly critical things to say about the emotional and sexual baggage they carry, and their treatment of women.  Highly underrated, it also features Samuel L. Jackson!
  • Story of a Junkie (1985) - This is actually a critically-acclaimed documentary chronicling the downfall of a heroin addict in the 1980′s.  The “actors” are real junkies, and the sequences of hard drug use are entirely real.  There is no moral high ground; no preaching.  Just reality.  While not as “Troma” as the rest of the films on this list, I think it’s worth recommending, and good on Troma for giving it greater exposure.
  • The Taint (2011) - This is what it would actually look like if the world was really how tumblr “feminists” describe it.  That should be enough to ignite interest.  I’ll leave the rest in your capable hands.
  • Father’s Day (2011) - In the words of the great Arlo Guthrie:

    “ Mother rapers…Father stabbers…Father rapers!

Some sick bastard is out to rape and murder the fathers of the world, and it’s up to a one-eyed former prison inmate named Ahab, a young male prostitute named Twink, and the devout Father John Sullivan to take down the man responsible–the same one that killed Ahab’s father long ago.  This film managed to be banned in Australia, which I’m sure the cast and crew are very proud of.
  • Bugged! (1997) - Another film headed by a black cast, this is essentially another “big bug” movie, but with a bit more goofiness to it than something like Phase IV (1974) (okay, maybe I’m kidding myself that Phase IV isn’t also pretty damn goofy).  In terms of production, it’s not the greatest, but being amateurish doesn’t mean that it can’t also be fun.  That’s really what Troma’s all about.

Lastly, because it brings me a great deal of personal joy, I must recommend the Angry Video Game Nerd’s video on the Toxic Crusaders video games, which features a delightful guest appearance by Lloyd Kaufman (I own the game on Sega, by the way.  It’s not great, but I’m not ashamed):

Tromaville may not be a place for everyone, but for those willing to visit, it’s a welcome vacation.

Favorite Track:

Feel Good (so this can actually double as the overrated track too, but like nah guys this song is legit and ppl can spaz about it all they want because it’s THAT SONG. Whenever i go back to listen to this album after a while i am always surprised by just how good it sounds to me.)

Least Favorite Track:

Shift (so this was hard because every song on this album is so unique and really good, but this was between shift and don’t stop. but i think if i had to choose between the two, i’d listen to don’t stop over shift.)

Underrated track:

U Need Me (this song is so good but i have yet to see or hear anyone spazzing about it like cmon guys)

Overrated Track:

Don’t Stop (I don’t really have reasoning for this. people only really ever talk about the first three tracks on this album. But when they do stray…it’s always for this song. And i’m like yea…it’s good and all, but -. There’s always a but.)
