Chicago Tribune Publishes Wonderfully Sarcastic Critique of Trump's Alternative Facts

Every single last one of my followers needs to read this article. My personal favorite passage:

“Of course the next day, some claimed there were "women’s marches” in Washington, D.C., and Chicago and around the world protesting Trump. Some pointed to photographs that suggested the crowd at the Washington march was greater than the one at the previous day’s inauguration.

Nonsense. First off, it’s a scientific fact that crowds at any form of protest can’t be counted because they don’t exist. But even if they did exist, crowd estimates based on aerial photographs would be unreliable at an event like that because the scene would be obscured by sulfurous black smoke released from the mouths of sinful demon women.“

Reblog if you’re a sinful demon woman that releases sulfurous black smoke from your mouth

SUCH an awesome two parter. And yeah, a hell of a lot to unpack in that death scene.

And unpack it I now WILL! I made it through those episodes alive so now I get to go back, ahaha, that’s how that works, apparently.

And this is gonna be related to Julian & Garak being each other’s favorite trope, because all of it is. Because: the way they express intimacy with each other is nearly always through performance. Oh it goes so deep, and we will follow it.

1. Pretense

I’ve had “the thing about pretense” jingling in my Loose thoughts doc for a while, so first let’s finally do that. The Thing is, Garak and Bashir are pretty unique on Deep Space 9 in how much they appreciate and even respect a good pretense. And we’re talking maybe all the definitions here, the social masking and the imaginary inventions and the affectations, too.

They’re both showy sorts of people on their own, prone to really delivering the full length of their sentences and playfully feigning things. So its no wonder then that as soon as they met they were dancing around “my dear Doctor” and “my dear Mr. Garak”-ing each other, having a grand old time and confusing the hell out of most everyone around them. Because they’re both the type, it turns out, who doesn’t need to trust a person to enjoy them — an outlook entirely foreign to someone like Kira Nerys, or Benjamin Sisko to a good extent. Or Miles O'Brien, which is probably part of why his relationship with Julian didn’t take off until later, after Miles began to realize that this fancy idiot Enacting Friendliness with suspicious cards like Garak, wasn’t himself an untrustworthy person.

But Julian and Garak immediately recognized that they had a shared language of Pretense, and so were able to just step directly into playing some coy elaborate mashup game of Two Truth Or Dares And A Lie. The game was the relationship – and as it would turn out, it would also be the trust.

22. favorite story you’ve ever written

I feel like there are some categories for this. I’m really proud of  The Lament of a Daughter because I feel like it’s the first ‘story’ I’ve written by myself. My other words have been scenes or collections of scenes, and I feel like this one was a step forward.

In the scenes category, I’d say Like Real People Do. It’s one of my few works I can reread and not cringe.

The Sainte Claire stories I wrote with @rikerssexblouse are also very dear to my heart.

23. least favorite story you’ve ever written

There is kind of a tie here. Pushed is the third thing I posted, and it’s just ‘meh’. It was part of a larger work that I’d scraped – and I should have tossed this away, too.  Hiatus, my second fic, isn’t bad like Pushed is, per se, but it’s OOC and the reason for that is rather personal and I shouldn’t have posted it – I should have just left it for me.

However, while my second and third fics are kind of terrible, I still really like the first one, The High Point. I could write it better now, but it’s held up well. And  Take Your Child to Work Day, the fourth one, I really love, and wish I could go back and rewrite the action scene to make it better. So at least my lull was short lived.

40. which one of your stories would you most like to see as a movie/series

I think Revelations and Take Your Child to Work Day would have made interesting episodes of Voyager.  Delayed Reactions would make a decent prono…

Sainte Claire, though, is probably the one that most deserves to be a movie.

49. writing advice

Just get a first draft out and don’t get caught in an endless cycle of editing. Also, find a person you want work with that pushes and challenges you and try not to take any of it personally.

This is one of my favorite details about YOI.

The reason Victor gives Yuuri for why he left Russia to become his coach is “because of the music.” He says Yuuri creates this with his body.

Poetic, right? Maybe more than you think.

Let’s rewind to the scene where Yuuri skates Victor’s “Stay Close to Me” routine. The one that inspired Victor to come to Japan.

What’s interesting to me is that Yuuri is skating without music. We hear it in the episode because it’s playing in the arena where Victor is, and the scenes are overlaid.

But where Yuuri is, it’s silent. The boy hears Victor’s song in his head.

Yuko recognizes the routine because she’s seen it before. Not because Yuuri put on music. She recognizes the first pose.

Which means…

Yuuri’s viral video is silent. He literally makes Victor hear the music with his body.

Hard to argue with that logic.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

(Thank you to the MANY lovely people that recommended this scene from Deathly Hallows!)

Oh my goodness I’m insanely happy because we FINALLY got some Nalu fluff going on. Gruvia got loads of attention and it’s FINALLY OUR TURN HELL YEAH.

Look at Lucy getting all riled up for her husbando.

Her eyes say it all. They are so real man. This is defo my favorite scene in this chapter, because look at her looking at him. There’s so much love, affection, gratefulness and faith in her man and I’m enjoying this oh so very much.

THIS IS SOOOOO CANON. (no one can convince me otherwise.)

Can’t wait for them to get their happy ending!!!!!!! :D

I’m a very happy nalu fan rn <33333

So this is like one of my favorite moments in Fantastic Beasts–I know, it’s tiny! But hear me out:

What Newt does and says and his body language says so much!!!

First off, he, out of anyone in the world, knows full well that this isn’t a good place to release the Swooping Evil.

He spends all his time studying and working with animals that wizards don’t appreciate and couldn’t care for (and even want to kill), and he does this all alone because he doesn’t really fit in with people.

Then here comes Jacob, who knows like nothing! Newt has no problem just scooping him up and inviting him along, even though it’s illegal. And now, he finally has someone to show his lifelong passion to, who will find it interesting and wondrous, instead of unusual or weird.

You can tell by Newt’s body language in this scene, that he’s (very privately) been internally dying to show the Swooping Evil off to someone–though he would never voice or acknowledge that out loud (probably because of previous negative reactions). But you can tell, even just in this gif, that he’s daydreamed about it for weeks or months. His inner (perhaps childlike) self thinks this thing is sick!! And he’s been dying to share it!!

But Newt is not a boastful or loud person. He wouldn’t draw attention to that fact (he’s a Hufflepuff and also has been stigmatized in his society). No. But look at his body language–his back is to Jacob and he flings that beast out at him. It’s like he’s daydreamed about and yearned for this moment so much, he’s staged it!! That’s not the body language of someone who wants to gently show Jacob a Swooping Evil, that’s the body language of someone who thinks this thing is freaking sweet!! And has been internally, perhaps subconsciously dying to show it off. And if you don’t believe me, look close and you can see that tiny little smile/smirk he’s sort of hiding from Jacob.

Newt totally eats this thing up, but it’s like he doesn’t want anyone to know just how much so.

And then he says (sort of trying to hide his smile), “Probably shouldn’t let it loose in here.” When he knows full well he shouldn’t have, but he just feels the need to say that to downplay the reality that he just really wanted to share this thing with someone. Because to be so openly passionate about it is too much of a risk, too vulnerable, because of past rejections. No, he needs to almost play dumb so he takes 0 risks at being made fun of for loving this–even with Jacob, who is his best bet who won’t make fun of him (because he doesn’t know better)

The subtext is this like three-second moment kills me with it’s perfection. It’s freaking brilliant.

“All that I wanted to hold you so CLOSEEEEE (8)”

Otayuri x Enchanted (Disney). I used the dialogue from one scene (the one when Giselle is angry for the first time) It took me longer than I expected, and I had to change and delete some parts of the scene because the comic was getting too long haha

Ok, so Yuri and Otabek are going to pair skate, but Otabek can feel that they are both tired, so he decides that is enough practice for one night.

Yuri can’t explain his feelings for his best friend… he thinks it’s anger, but NO! haha

I don’t know which one to do next, but I’m thinking of Pocahontas (my favorite movie <3)

Also a bonus:

Mulan ONE

my favorite part about stranger things is that one scene in the first episode where dustin brings the last slice of pizza to nancy’s room and is all like “hey you want it?” because at first i was like. here we go. we gotta deal with the trope of a kid having a crush on his friend’s older sister now again. oh joy.

but no. no that’s not what happened at all. he doesnt have a crush on her. it turns out dustin genuinely just wanted to know if nancy wanted the last slice of pizza because he’s just a nice kid. i love him.

Vader’s pun in Rogue One felt like A Bit Much. Then I remembered the novelization of RotS and one of the newly minted Vader’s first scenes. The entire time he’s slaughtering the surviving Separatist leaders, the dialogue is peppered with things like this:

“Please, I’ll give you anything. Anything you want!”
The blade flashed twice; Tambor’s arms fell to the floor, followed by his head.
“Thank you.”

And this unbelievable gold:

“We were promised a reward,” she gasped. “A h-h-handsome reward-”
“I am your reward,” the Sith Lord said. “You don’t find me handsome?”

And perhaps my favorite, because please:

“The war is over- Lord Sidious promised- he promised we would be left in peace…”
“His transmission was garbled.” The blade came up. “He promised you would be left in pieces.”

This one is by far my most favorite scene of the whole trailer, because we have the opportunity to witness a totally weak and defenseless Link [just look at his deplorable condition], while his chest is being pointed by a red laser [coming from that huge guardian]. Just when that thing was going to shoot Link, we see Princess Zelda, who acted as his shield [blocking its lasers with the use of her magical powers derived from Godess Hylia], while she was screaming “NO!”.

Basically, if it was not for the assistance of Zelda at that precise moment, Link would have been killed without doubt.

One of my favorite things about Empire of Storms is when Elide and Lorcan are running for their lives and Elide is too slow and Lorcan keeps glancing at her but doesn’t know how to tell her because he’s low key afraid of her and she just sighs and says “do it” because of course she knows what he’s thinking and without another word he just throws her over his shoulder and takes off. That scene was hilarious and I love my grumpy teddybear son and my genius slytherin queen so much

One Piece ワンピース [Thriller Bark Saga] : Shichibukai Bartholomew “Tyrant” Kuma vs Roronoa “Pirate Hunter” Zoro

“Just stay back, all of you!! He challenged ME didn’t you hear?! I’ve accepted the challenge I don’t need help. So don’t humiliate me by butting in! When disaster looms, you’ve got to step up or shove off. Making excuses isn’t going to change anything. If I die here…then I wasn’t worth much to begin with!!”

This is my absolute favorite moment in One Piece. There are so many great scenes in OP, and the “Whitebeard War” Arc is still the greatest as a whole, but this moment holds a special place for me. Before Captain Kidd, Zoro was (still 2nd) my favorite character because he’s hilarious and brazen but when it came down to it, Zoro always handled his own and got shit done. When Kuma came to annihilate all witnesses to Gecko Moria’s defeat and challenged Zoro, the hype killed me!! Just the fact that they just defeated a Shichibukai and it took all they had and then another one shows up and Zoro stands his ground even though he’s clearly outclassed was like, “wow, what a badass”. But of course, what sealed the deal for me was when Zoro threw down his swords and offered his head, the head of the future “Worlds Greatest Swordsman”, in exchange for Luffy & his crewmates’ lives and then took in all of Luffy’s battle damage. Magnifique. Truly, Oda molded the perfect right hand for the future Pirate King!

I just want to have a favorite novel...

…like Harry Potter, but with gay characters.
I want to grab my favorite book from the shelf and read their little, domestic love scenes again and again.
Of course I want it to have an interesting plot too and not only the love thing.
But I want it to have same-sex couples.
I don’t want a homo erotic novel or something like that. Just a good story with cute little gay pairings in it instead of the stereotypical couples.
Sorry, perhaps it’s just me. Perhaps it’s because I can’t identify myself good enough with the most hetero couples.

…is it just me?

As odd as it may seem one of my favorite cutscenes in the entirety of Kingdom Hearts is when Sora first meets Pooh. Winnie the Pooh has got to be one of the purest franchises in media, so when you see Sora nonchalantly approach Pooh to sit by him to greet him you can’t help but feel at ease.

The picture itself of them both sitting together is very endearing, and you appreciate how well Kingdom Hearts captured the essence of Pooh and even went as far as to bring Sora too into that innocent atmosphere.

But then Sora starts talking to Pooh, and out of nowhere Pooh seems confused, sad, distraught even, because everyone and everything he’s known is suddenly gone, and he figures he might as well say goodbye to himself too. And you try to push back that unsettling thought of Pooh considering suicide as you watch how he casually walks away, leaving Sora behind, whom was probably taken by surprise too and couldn’t think of anything to say.

The mood of the scene even changes abruptly from existential crisis to flowers and happiness when the music finally sets in and the title of the Hundred Acre Wood is displayed on the screen. And after that strange and surprising encounter you are just left there to wonder what is it that you’ve done with your life.

And honestly, I think that’s freaking beautiful.
