The second time you saw it was because you decided to put your theory to the test.

You’d only been working with the Avengers for a couple of months. A former agent, you were seriously injured when SHIELD fell and had been reassigned to non-combat work. Lucky for you, Fury was looking for someone to be the “man in the chair” so to speak, coordinating tech support during missions, and you with your hacking background and intuitive computer skills were perfect for the job.

You loved getting to know the team, quickly realizing that under all those powers and personas were real people, people who were just as friendly and scattered and funny and broken as anyone else, including yourself. You took it upon yourself to be the team’s unofficial morale booster, knowing that the only way the Avengers were gonna continue to be successful in the field would be to build their morale and sense of community here at home.

Sunday morning breakfast was the first tradition you had initiated. The only rules were that everyone had to attend and everyone had to contribute somehow. Several members of the team were reluctant until you lured them in with the promise of bottomless stacks of your Nana’s famous buttermilk pancakes and before long you had them all, hook, line, and sinker.

As you gathered your ingredients and waited for the rest of the team to wake up you couldn’t stop thinking about the other morning on the balcony with Bucky. The more you pictured it in your mind the more you were sure that a certain stoic super soldier had definitely blushed because of you, something you never would have expected but were pleasantly surprised by. You just needed to be absolutely certain…

As luck would have it the man in question chose that moment to round the corner into the kitchen. “Hey Bucky, can you help me out with something?” He came over and leaned against the counter next to you.

“Whatcha need, doll?”

You pointed towards the top of the open cabinet. “Somebody put the mixing bowl I need all the way up there… care to help a gal out?”

“Sure thing,” he said with a smile reaching up to grab it.

Time to put the plan in motion. “Oh wait, not that one,” you stepped up right behind Bucky, placing your left hand on his shoulder and brushing your right arm against his as you pointed out the correct bowl, “it’s that red one, right there.”

You felt Bucky tense under your touch, almost dropping the bowl in the process. You quickly stepped back, paying close attention as your suspicions were confirmed. A deep crimson blush bloomed over his neck, all the way up to the tips of his ears. He turned, basically pushing the bowl into your arms and muttering about forgetting something in his room before hightailing it out of the kitchen.

“Gotcha,” you smiled to yourself as you worked your ingredients into a batter, pondering what to do with this new information…

I’m going to answer the questions posted by @the-winnowing-wind for Hannigram Day!

We, the fannibals, have declared August 22 to be hannigram day!!! If you want to add to the festivities but don’t know what to post, consider answering the following questions! I tag EVERYONE to play!!!

1.       When did you first hear about Hannigram?

I was actually watching Hannibal in a vacuum outside of the fandom for the first 3-4 times, but it wasn’t far into the first season when I started realising that our two lovely boys really just weren’t behaving like typical ‘friends’ ;P (Did you just smell me…We’re her father’s now… Hannibal’s shining cannibal eyes of love when he realised Tobias didn’t kill Will…etc. etc. etc.)   It was a slow-ish build for me, but past the first season Hannigram was undeniable!  I didn’t hear the word Hannigram until I joined Tumblr but I shipped them HARD from really early on.

2.       What was your last thought about Hannigram?

By last thought do you mean the EVERY SECOND OF THE DAY thoughts I have about Hannigram? Seriously, they’ve taken over my brain XD I guess the things I think about them the most are about their reciprocity. Most of my fics revolve around that in some way…the way that power and influence and love flows between them.

3.       What was the first episode where /you/ started to ship the ship?

Honestly, probably from the first episode in a way. But it was a slow build. Little things compiling on little things for a chunk of the first season. But even from that first breakfast in the hotel room, the way Hannibal made Will laugh, and how he looked at him…those two didn’t stand a chance!

 4.       Do you ship a Hannigram AU? Which one is your favorite!!!

Honestly, I ship them all if they’re well written! I have a specific love of Tristhad and Spacedogs like the rest of us but Basic Chickens, Streunsex, Royal Instinct… the list is endless in the hands of this talented fandom!

 5.       Have you created anything for Hannigram? If so, what’s your favorite thing done? If not, what’s your favorite thing seen?

Everything I write is Hannigram!  I haven’t attempted any other pairings yet, although I’d like to try my hand at an ABO Tristhad. Hmmm, favourites are hard…

I really enjoyed writing my piece And Cure His Heart for #JustFuckMeUp and my very recent fic for #BottomHannibalDay Give and Take was also super fun.  I’m pretty proud of my piece for the @radiance-anthology but you’ll just have to wait for it to come out before you read it! ;P

6.       Do you remember your first Hannigram fic/art piece?

The first ever Hannigram anything I saw the beautiful manip below that popped up on Pinterest before I found Tumblr.  I almost DIED!  (I still can’t find who did it, anyone know?)

Once I found Tumblr, there was just so much Hannigram I didn’t know what to do with myself.  The first fic I fell in love with was the gorgeous Marriage series by @fragile-teacup which I found after reading her unbelievably amazing Drabbles.  Do yourself a favour and READ THEM!

 7.       Favorite Hannigram quote?

This is really hard, but I’ll probably go with “If I saw you every day, forever, Will, I would remember this time.” Or “Did you believe you could change me the way I changed you?…I already did.” I could keep going of course, but those are classics.

8.       Favorite Hannigram memory?

If that’s moment in the show, that’s even HARDER! I mean, I feel like you have to put Mizumono and The Wrath of the Lamb aside to even be fair…but the entire final scene in Su-Zakana was so amazing, and when they met again at the Ufizzi. My heart is just swelling and breaking even as I type this!

9.       It’s almost 2 years since TWOTL - what do you think Will and Hannibal are planning for that day?

Maybe they saved a few pieces of the Dragon to eat on their anniversaries, like people do with wedding cakes! I like to believe that they’re planning nothing more than staying in bed all day…with breaks for delicious food of course. ;P But a commemorative hunt would also seem pretty appropriate!

HAPPY #HANNIGRAMDAY EVERYONE!  I love you all, and I’m so happy to sail in this beautiful ship with you!

Saw @nocturnalazure and a bunch of other simmers doing a zodiac series for their characters and fell in love with the idea, so I decided to do it for my guys too :D starting with Chris! :D

Strengths: honest, fair-minded, dedicated, generous;
Weaknesses: argumentative, reckless, preachy, runs away from problems;
Likes: travels, pets, books, being outdoors;
Dislikes: prejudice, routines, lack of freedom, lies;

  • Sagittarians love to learn and discover new things. They are interested in philosophy and religion and are always looking forward to discuss and get to know more about the deeper aspects of life. Their thirst for knowledge will often lead them to travel a lot to see new places.
  • They deeply value honesty and sincerity and you can always count on them to tell you their genuine opinion on any issue. However, they may also have a hard time expressing themselves about their own problems and may keep them for themselves.
  • Sagittarians can be reckless and not really think of the consequences. However, they are also willing to recognize their own mistakes, and sometimes will worry way too much about them.
  • Sagittarians are usually confident and optimistic, but when they’re not given the chance to develop their confidence, they can become extremely insecure and anxious, as well as develop a tendency to run away from reality, rather than facing their own problems. Travel can easily become the easiest way for them to distance themselves from issues.
  • With Cancer as their rising sign, Sagittarians tend to show a strong sense of duty, intuition and sensitivity. They are protective, good with children and greatly enjoy sharing their knowledge as educators. As lovers, they tend to be sweet and passionate. They are however not very ambitious, as they prefer pursuing their own interests and spending time with their loved ones rather than pursuing a successful career.

anonymous asked:

When did you first discover Sherlock Holmes? And the Granada series?

oh wow, well, the Sherlock Holmes character is that kind of thing that is always present in popular culture that everyone has heard about but no one really knows, but it was around the time the first Guy Ritchie Sherlock Holmes movie came out that I read The Adventures stories (and I totally loved them, I read the book twice in a row) and I watched the first ten minutes of the movie and I was like nope this is not the same thing I’m reading about though I liked the aesthetic of the film, SO I went to good old friend google in search of a faithful adaptation of the stories and that’s how I found the granada series, and you know that moment in the first episode when Holmes turns around and is introduced and everything is perfect, I screamed and fell in love, and that’s it :)

i just read the entire series today and i fell in love so fucking fast that i decided to make a post dedicated to me gushing over it

anyways guys for the love of god PLEASE read this series, volumes are being sold at Barnes and Noble and its also online! its so good and i cant believe people are sleeping on it

Five reasons to watch Netflix's new Anne of Green Gables adaption, Anne With An "E"...

So I didn’t think I would need to make a post like this but negative reviews that don’t do the show justice (particularly that horrible vanity fair article) have apparently left me no choice….
Overall, Netflix’s Anne With An “E” or simply Anne The Series as it was called when it originally aired on the CBC in Canada, is wonderful.

here are five reasons why you should watch Anne With An “E” on Netflix:

1. Anne herself, Amybeth McNulty.

Amybeth completely captures Anne’s spirit. I swear it’s like someone shook the book and Amybeth fell out of it. She plays Anne with all the dreaminess, quirkiness, and charm that we know and love, as well as adding more depth to her than we’ve seen in previous adaptions. This brings me to my next point…

2. Anne is portrayed as an abuse and trauma survivor, as she should be!

Sure, we all love the lighthearted humor of Anne’s many misadventures in the original stories, and that’s still there in Anne With An “E”, but Anne was also the victim of a lot of mental and physical neglect and abuse in her past life before being adopted by the Cuthberts. In the show, she suffers from symptoms of PTSD and the effects of her past trauma are evident. The result of adding more details of Anne’s past do make the show darker at times, but the dark times only make the light times shine brighter, and we know there are more light times to come in Anne’s story!

3. Besides Amybeth, the rest of the cast is superb as well!

All around, the casting is spot on and the acting is spectacular! I don’t even know what else to say here, but everyone is just so wonderful!!!

And don’t think I’d forget… you can count on me to give a special shout-out to everyone’s favorite slate smack recipient, Gilbert Blythe.

Lucas Jade Zumann is PERFECT as Gilbert. He brings a slyness and playfulness to Gilbert that was there in the books but glossed over in other adaptions. And by the way, his chemistry with Amybeth McNulty is everything you could ever ask for and more…

(side note: I would also like to throw out a special mention to Aunt Josephine Barry, no spoilers but she’s more lovable than she’s ever been)

4. The show tackles timeless and contemporary themes of identity, feminism, bullying, and prejudice.

Anne’s life, realistically, doesn't become all sunshine and rainbows as soon as she comes to Avonlea. She struggles to fit in and faces bullying at school. The show also addresses issues of sexism and classism and does a great job at it while accurately (for the most part) staying within the time period it is portraying.

5. Everything about the show is high quality.

From the aforementioned acting to the cinematography, music, costume design, sets, editing, and the GORGEOUS opening title sequence, everything is the highest quality and you can tell how much thought, time, effort, and passion went into the making of this show.

Please give it a chance and check it out on Netflix, given the opportunity the show could grow and get even better if it is renewed for future seasons!

Sorry for lack of art. Been busy with school and me and my bro’s comic series!

I saw the Marinette and Chloe dolls recently and OMG I FELL IN LOVE AND HADTODRAWTHEM.

Of course Adrien and Nathanael like them too ;3

Hope you guys like, I’ve been neglecting my OTP BABIEZ and I apologize! But I hope you like!

I grew up watching movies, and I would make movies with my dad. I had a television series produced with my dad that was called ‘Lizard Hunters’. Literally we would hike through the Hollywood Hills, and my dad would be shooting the whole time and we would hunt for lizards and I would do a direct address to the camera. But it was really when I got my first job in television, an episode of 'Cold Case’, where I played a bootlegging lesbian in the 1930s. I fell in love.

foreign films 2.0

hi all! follow-up on THIS post.

this is another very long post giving you film and series suggestions in foreign languages - i have included my three target languages and french just to spice things up a bit.

if you’ve seen any of these or want to expand on the post please fell free to do so!! this list is obviously very subjective and contains things that i have seen and enjoyed, so i would love to see a greater variety of genres/directors featured on here.

wakolda - this is straight up one of my favourite films ever. 1950s argentina. a family accomodates a guest at their hotel, unaware that their guest is nazi monster josef mengele.

tiempo sin aire - colombian mum and son escape the horrors of civil war and move to the canary islands, but the mother will not rest until she has found her daughter’s rapist. contains some graphic scenes, not for the faint of heart.

la regenta - adaptation of 19th century classic, both film and miniseries (3 x 1.5 hrs) available on youtube. the film is mediocre but the miniseries stole my heart. pious wife anita torn between sexy local liberal and dark imposing priest. features an absolutely superb carmelo gomez as the cunning don fermin.

el crimen del padre amaro - another c19 classic, this time in a modern latin american setting where hot priest gael garcia b. can no longer fight his feelings for a certain young lady…

ocho apellidos vascos - SOOOOOOOO FUCKING FUNNY!!!!!

la piel que habito - almodóvar, banderas, weird, cringy, intriguing,  “a horror story without screams or frights” [wiki]

[wiki]

el secreto de sus ojos - “Using a nonlinear narrative, the film depicts a judiciary employee and a judge in 1974 … as they investigate a rape and murder case that turns into an obsession for all the people involved, while also following the characters 25 years later reminiscing over the case and unearthing the buried romance between them.”[wiki] RECOMMENDED

vacas - portrays the conflict between two basque families that lasts three generations, starting in 1875.

la princesa de francia - looks ery promising, centred around a group of actors preparing shakespeare’s “love’s labour’s lost”, in buenos aires. read review here

ligações perigosas [BR] - recently released tv globo miniseries, NOT A NOVELA, available on yt. adaptation of laclos’ les liaisons dangereuses. set in 1920s brazil. love, sex, intrigue, DRAMA, 1920s music. great acting by selton mello and alice wegmann. i cried watching this. i love selton mello

justiça [BR] - also a globo miniseries, follows various characters in recife as each of them searches for their own private justice. RECOMMENDED

amores roubados [BR] - yet another miniseries, based on the book “a emparedada da rua nova”. leandro returns to his hometown from SP and becomes involved with three women.

3% [BR] - a dystopian thriller series, apparently available on netflix. “ The show is set in a future wherein people are given a chance to go to the “better side” of a world divided between progress and affluence in the Offshore, and devastation and poverty in the Inland, but only 3% of the candidates succeed.”[wiki] RECOMMENDED

pecado fatal [EU] - angst, drama, shy sweet love but also bitten family secrets. “a young man and woman fall in love on the night they meet, but he takes advantage of her when she gets drunk. although she doesn’t remember anything from that night, something nags at the back of her mind.” not the most accurate description - just watch it its good

o convento [EU] - a literature professor goes to a portuguese convent to confirm a conspiracy theory about shakespeare. this film is actually in english and french as well as portuguese, but i’ve included it here because it was directed by the great manoel de oliveira. stars john malkovich and catherine deneuve.

o dia de desespero [EU] - another one by oliveira, portuguese entry for 1992 oscars. the film shows the final days of the life of famed c19 writer camilo castelo branco, his blindness and eventual suicide. probably available on youtube.

malena - a classic, story of how a beautiful young woman is ridiculed by her prejudiced community told through the eyes of a young boy lusting over her. very tastefully done and visually very pretty. plus it has monica belucci

la prima notte di quiete - 1972. scruffy alain delon is bitter and elopes with a mysterious student of his who keeps some dark secrets. very beautiful visually, lovely music, unexpected ending. watch this if you want to be sad and vague

lºeredità ferramonti - set in 1880s rome, cunning young woman weds into a split family and wreaks havoc. dominique sanda is brilliant in this. also very nice music by morricone.

des hommes et des dieux - algeria. eight monks live a secluded life in the mountains. when war breaks out, they are forced to make a choice between their faith and their lives. “a luminous tale of faith and heroism”, and also very prettily made.

venus noire - based on the true story of saartije bartman, a black woman showcased in 19th century europe because of her body. explores prejudice, otherness, fetishisation, directed by tunesian abdellatif kechiche. RECOMMENDED.

la dame aux camélias (1981) - isabelle huppert stars as the destitute and illiterate alphonsine who travels to paris and becomes a courtesan. based on alexandre dumas’ novel, of the same title.

Bring your daughter to work day.

Being a single dad and having a job as demanding as Spencer’s was not easy, but when he saw the little smile on his daughter’s face or felt the way her fist would wrap around his finger, it was all worth it.

In which Spencer gets called into work on what is supposed to be his day off, and it’s so last minute that he has to bring his four month old daughter, Harper, with him.

a/n: based off of this request, i’m making this a series of one shots about spencer and harper so this is the first installment. gif credit to toyboxboy.

Spencer’s hand came down to rest upon his baby girl’s head, he cradled Harper in his arms and as always was overwhelmed with joy and love. She had finally fallen asleep after hours of crying and she now looked peaceful– seemed as though a bottle had done the trick.

Spencer felt as though he was way in over his head since he was a single dad but he was already great at it and had at least some faith in himself. He was off for a few days and could handle it at the moment to get himself together.

Spencer’s phone rang, the shrill sound taking Harper from her peaceful sleep and immediately causing her to burst into tears. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath as he silently cursed whoever was calling for waking up his baby girl, he was just as tired as she was after a night of not much sleep.

So here’s an email I just sent to Marvel, in case you’re interested

To the editors of Marvel Comics:

Many of the letters in your letters pages begin with the writer’s long history of reading comics as evidence that you should care about their opinion and want to keep them as a customer. While I may be relatively new to comics, I think I’m a pretty desirable customer. Not only do I have disposable income and a willingness to spend money on physical books in a brick-and-mortar comic shop, but I’m also a teacher and librarian with the power to get your books in the hands of the next generation.

Until recently, I was thrilled to do just that. I teach at a school that serves a very diverse population and I wanted to expose my students to heroes who look like them. I bought them Miles Morales, Sam Wilson, Ms. Marvel, Silk, The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, various team books, and more. I did this not with the school’s budget, but with my own money (and I of course took the opportunity to read them myself first).

For myself (although I also share most of them with students), I have every issue of Patsy Walker, A.K.A. Hellcat!, The Mighty Thor, Mockingbird, Storm, and most of the recent Black Widow and Captain Marvel runs. I’ve been eagerly awaiting Nick Fury and America, and was not disappointed by their #1s. I’ve loved so much of what Marvel has given me over the past few years; I got to see parts of myself and the people I love in these books, parts that I don’t always get to see in popular media.

But none of the above were the characters that got me into comics; that honor belongs to Steve Rogers. I fell in love with him in the movies, with his steadfastness and his sense of justice and his belief in doing the right thing and protecting individuals. I went back and read Brubaker’s Winter Soldier arc, but was too intimidated by the vastness of the Marvel universe to read many of the books he was currently appearing in when I first started reading comics.

And then I found out he was being restored to his young self and getting a new series. I was ECSTATIC. I couldn’t wait to get it and see what new adventures this amazing character would go on. When I found out about the twist at the end of #1, I was upset, but everyone assured me that this is comics - it’ll be mind control or a decoy or some other trick. Soon everything would be back to normal. But as I realized how committed everyone at Marvel was to the reality of Steve-the-Hydra-Agent, I also realized that this was a book that didn’t want me as a reader. This version of Steve Rogers seemed to have nothing in common with the Steve Rogers I had fallen in love with. As a queer woman with Jewish ancestry, I felt like my concerns were dismissed and that I was unwelcome.

So I didn’t buy the book. I kept my other subscriptions and continued to enjoy them, all the while waiting for the trick-behind-the-trick that everyone else seemed sure would come. And then Secret Empire began.
I don’t know if I can put into words how it felt to find out that according to this new story, Steve Rogers has never been a hero at all. The closest I can get is that it was a punch in the gut, although I feel the cliche fails to accurately convey the strength of my response.

Stories matter. Heroes matter. And in a world that feels full of pain and fear and darkness, stories and heroes matter even more. The people I love are living with a lot of fear right now - fear of deportation, fear of losing access to health care, fear of being attacked for who they love or the color of their skin - and so am I. We need heroes who can remind us of why we fight, why we resist, why we rise above, why we plant ourselves like a tree and say “no, you move.”

Steve Rogers used to be that hero for me and for many others. To take a hero like Steve Rogers and destroy everything that made him who he was, everything that he was created to be…I don’t know why that is a story that Marvel wants to tell right now. Or ever. It is incomprehensible to me.

And it leaves me torn. I have asked my shop to not pull any books related to Secret Empire for me, and a part of me wants to firmly declare that Marvel will never see another cent of my money at all. The other part of me remembers how much I have loved and appreciated my other experiences as a Marvel fan, the encouragement that your characters and stories have given me, the ways they’ve made me laugh and given me something to look forward to, a bright spot in the middle of the week.

I don’t know if I will keep buying Marvel comics. I want to, but I’m not sure you want me to. Right now, it seems like I’m the type of customer that you don’t want at all - the customer who values the diversity you’ve blamed for the sales slump and who wants her good guys to be good, even when it’s hard.

Hoping to remain a fan,
Rachel A.
