and the one with him in the lennon glasses

I wrote ‘Here Today’ about John. It’s just a song saying, you know, ‘If you were here today you’d probably say what I’m doing is a load of crap. But you wouldn’t mean it, cos you like me really, I know.’ It’s one of those 'Come out from behind your glasses, look at me,’ things. It was a love song, really, not to John but a love song about John, about my relationship with him. I was trying to exorcise the demons in my own head.

Paul McCartney, Conversations with McCartney by Paul Du Noyer

“A love song, really, not to John but a love song about John” ??? what’s the real difference here? nice try

For @bess-please…Y/L/N means your last name, enjoy!

You giggled as Eggsy turned to face you wearing the most ridiculous frames you had ever seen. You bit your lip slightly before scrunching your face at your boyfriend. He smirked at you.

“I thought I was the one with the checkup,” you teased him.
“You are, love,” he replied, “Don’t mean we can’t have some fun.”

Before you could retort, he had snagged another pair of frames and put them on. You slapped your hand over your mouth to keep in the giggles. He had put on a rounded pair of glasses.

“You look like John Lennon,” you teased.
“I’d take that over Ozzy Osbourne,” he countered.
“Y/N Y/L/N,” a foreign voice called.

Yours and Eggsy’s head snapped to face the optician. The man arched a brow when he caught sight of your boyfriend. After a moment, he chuckled.

“We can have ya look at frames later. First, let’s look at those eyes of yours.”

July 6th 1957- The day John Lennon met Paul McCartney for the first time

“I just thought, ‘Well, he looks good, he’s singing well and he seems like a great lead singer to me.’ Of course, he had his glasses off, so he really looked suave. I remember John was good. He was really the only outstanding member, all the rest kind of slipped away.”- Paul when he met John for the first time

“I half thought to myself, He’s as good as me, I’d been kingpin up to then. Now, I thought, if I take him on, what will happen?”- John

“I still remember his beery old breath when I first met him here that day. But I soon came to love that beery old breath. And I loved John.”- Paul

“We were recording the other night, and I just wasn’t there. Neither was Paul. We were like two robots going through the motions. We do need each other alot. When we used to get together after a month off, we used to be embarrassed about touching each other. We’d do an elaborate handshake just to hide the embarrassment… or we did mad dances. Then we got to hugging each other.”- John

“John had his thing, and Paul had his, and together there were two different things all together. But they fit.”- Billy Preston

“Paul hits this chord, and I turn to him and say, That’s it! Do that again! In those days, we really used to write like that- both playing into each other’s noses.”- John

“One of my great memories of John is from when we were having some argument. I was disagreeing and we were calling each other names. We let it settle for a second and then he lowered his glasses and he said: "It’s only me.” And then he put his glasses back on again. To me, that was John. Those were the moments when I actually saw him without the facade, the armor, which I loved as well, like anyone else. It was a beautiful suit of armor. But it was wonderful when he let the visor down and you’d just see the John Lennon that he was frightened to reveal to the world.“- Paul

“Before John Lennon died I got back a good relationship with him. That was very special. The arguments we had didn’t matter. We were able to just take the piss about all those songs; they weren’t that harsh.”- Paul

“He was always saying, ‘I wonder what Paul is doing.’ When John and I were together, and this is about a week or two before our relationship ended, I remember him saying, ‘Do you think I should write with Paul again?’ I said, ‘Absolutely. You should because you want to. The two of you as solo performers are good, but together you can’t be beaten.”- May Pang

“Well, he’s like a brother. I love him. Families – we certainly have our ups and downs and our quarrels. But at the end of the day, when it’s all said and done, I would do anything for him, I think he would do anything for me.”- John, hours before his death

“I look in the mirror and think, ‘Nice one! You wrote songs with John Lennon on his porch, then you went to his bedroom and listened to Fats Domino and Elvis! How brilliant is that?’”- Paul

But it was wonderful when he let the visor down and you’d just see the John Lennon that he was frightened to reveal to the world.“

The Day John Met Paul

anonymous asked:

Hi Marco! Do you know what John meant when he said that "How do you sleep?" was about him? Like... there's no denying it was about Paul.

When John wrote ‘How do you sleep’ we all know that the song was about Paul, then the same year in an interview he said that he and Paul were fine with it and that all the anger and the rivalry was made up by the press that was trying to manipulate them into competing against each other.

In 1980 he admitted that the song was just about himself. With this confession he tried to say, that whenever he was mad at Paul, the problem was himself, not Paul. I’ll try to explain it with Paul’s words: he gave an interview in which he said that when they had an argument, in the end John said sorry explaining that it was all his fault.

“ One of my great memories of John is from when we were having some argument. I was disagreeing and we were calling each other names. We let it settle for a second and then he lowered his glasses and he said: “It’s only me.” And then he put his glasses back on again. To me, that was John. Those were the moments when I actually saw him without the facade, the armor, which I loved as well, like anyone else. It was a beautiful suit of armor. But it was wonderful when he let the visor down and you’d just see the John Lennon that he was frightened to reveal to the world.”

So when he said that How do you sleep was about him, it means that he really didn’t mean all the bad words he wrote for Paul, in the end he was angry at himself and at the way their relationship ended during the Beatles break up.

As Long As I Got You - McLennon

Modern Mclennon AU because why not

“We’re sashaying away, bitches.” Came the declaration from John Lennon, as he hooked an arm around Paul McCartney’s waist and tugged him along the narrow walkway, leading them away from rude reporters.

Paul complied to the closeness easily, not really minding. He rather liked being so friendly with the other lad.

“So…” He began, wrapping one of his own arms around Lennon’s shoulders.  “Did that help?”

“Did what help?” Demanded John, whipping his head in the younger’s direction so fast that his glasses nearly flew off of his face and into the ocean that sloshed next to their path.

“Calling some reporters ‘Bitches’ and telling them that we were sashaying away.” Macca replied simply, making sure that his paces kept in time with that of his boyfriend’s. He liked when they were in step together.

“Yes. Immensely.”

Paul huffed softly. “Brian’ll have a right fit.”

“Well, I don’t give a damn.”

They remained in silence for a time, just listening to the sea and their shoes clicking against the concrete.

John is the first to break the quiet. He never liked quiet, anyway. “Aye, Paulie?”

McCartney turns his head to the other boy, a small smile lifting up his cherub cheeks. “Yea?”

Lennon coughed awkwardly, his ears turning a pale shade of pink. “Do you…” He paused, as if to collect his words. “Do you think I’m fat?”

Paul cocked his head, as if this was the most odd question he had ever heard. “Nah, Johnny. I think you’re the perfect size.”

A soft chuckled escaped the older’s lips. “Perfect size, eh?”

“Yes. I love your face and your arms, and your tummy and your legs, and your hands and your hair–”

Dick.” John coughed out, demanding an answer for that too.

Paul giggled. “Well, I love that as well.” He halted at a small bench that sat among the flowers, and plopped down, pulling his boyfriend with him.

John rested his head on the other’s shoulder. “Really?”

“Really really.” Macca replied, using a hand to pluck a blue flower from it’s stem. He carefully tucked it behind John’s ear (the one that wasn’t pressing against his body) and sighs. “You shouldn’t care what those silly reporters say.”

“I won’t.” John tells him. “As long as I got you.”

The Beatles backstage at the Music Hall, Shrewsbury, April 26th 1963.

‘Please, Please Me’ was currently number one in the UK album charts. This was the second and last time the Beatles would play the Shrewsbury Music Hall.

“My classmate’s father was the head security guard (bouncer) and he got us backstage. Lennon wore glasses (not common knowledge at that time), and a grey collarless jacket. We got autographs (the photo still has pride of place on a shelf at home) and generally stood around in awe, as local news media did the expected news interviews. Ringo went off to a private balcony to watch a local band play and I followed him. I remember chatting with him about the band and answering some questions about the local music scene."

Almeria, Spain– 1966

“When the tours ended, he came to Spain to shoot this movie, and I met him two weeks later, in October 1966. It was one of the most beautiful moments as a couple. He was in the desert, stuck in the car. He opened the window and called me. We made love right there.” - Cynthia Lennon

“When confronting the canvas titled “John’s Room,” it is very challenging to separate the pure artistic value of the work from the enormous emotional baggage it carries. Of course, the “John” of this portrait is John Lennon - who was an art student in his pre-Beatle days - and McCartney has managed, as brilliantly as he mimicked a ’30s crooner in “Honey Pie,” to replicate the naive style of Lennon’s now-classic minicharacter drawings.”I often think of John when I look at this one,” McCartney says, gazing off dreamily. “John used to always do those funny little men, you know? And I would often sketch John when we worked together, often without him knowing it. It was so easy doing John because he had glasses, those sideboards - what you call sideburns - and that long, aquiline nose.” The painting’s genesis came “really when an accident happened on the canvas and, suddenly, I began to see John’s face in the work emerge, especially that familiar nose of his - it was a good chance,” recalls McCartney. “It was a really light moment because I was not intending to do John, but his form emerged from what I was scratching out.” At one point during the evening at the Waldorf-Astoria, McCartney answers a random question with, “No, I always felt much closer to John.” Out of the mouth of anyone else, “John” is just a name, a mere monosyllable. But when the name is uttered by McCartney, the ghostlike presence of John Lennon suddenly descends on the evening. Lennon’s name, so simply invoked by McCartney, takes on the power of a talisman, conjuring up an entire shared cultural scrapbook of images defining musical collaboration and the purest of camaraderie. McCartney owns the pronunciation of “John” the way Katharine Hepburn made “Spensah” Tracy her own.” - Interview with Paul McCartney, 2001

because i wanted to make this thing, i now have a surplus of sean cassidy screencaps from xmfc so:

smooth move sean my man. i can almost imagine charles and erik spying at some corner and charles going, “he’s all right but i think i’ll teach him a thing or two about Flirting” (• ◡ •) and erik is prolly going “charles no” (ಠ_ಠ)

mutant baby adoption process complete! commence modern fix-it AU fics!

“damn, i wanted to be called mystique!”

look at him going all thoughtful. thoughtful freckly ginger mutants are the best ❀‿❀

cheeky freckly ginger mutants are okay too you know (also, hello hot damn look at alex summers’ mandible!)

hank looks appalled.

stop it are you even old enough to hit on angel?

(oh please he’s old enough to hit on moira amirite? *wink*wink* gimme all the sean/moira fics now!)

look at this

how dare you why are you so adorable

no but seriously, if you watch this scene carefully, i think they’re kind of sean-centric because caleb’s reactions to things in this scene are so perfect and adorable. glad they captured those reactions and included them in the final product~

classic. my bbs

graceful hand is graceful.

“what is that?”

it’s the father of raven’s future child of course what did you think it was?

i like this particular shot. dunno why. it’s the way he’s standing in front of angel, maybe.

also love how protective armando is throughout this whooole scene.

fucking shaw man. t(.___.t) up yours.

i love them aaalllll my bbs ;___;

“he’s not going back to prison!”

rock them john lennon glasses, cassidy oh yeah~

erik: “i’d like to talk to you about the avengers initiative.”

look at him absorbing all that new knowledge~ ლ(╹◡╹ლ)

i love that they decided to put moira in the scene as well. i also love the little eyebrow wiggle sean gives moira in the extended version. i would’ve included the screencaps from that but i’m way too lazy to hunt down my dvd kekeke~

this is what you get when you live with two over-enthusiastic scholars: you get to be the one to test out their inventions

look at how amused charles is ffs xavier

to infinity…AND BEYOND!

“you truly believe i’ll fly this time?”

“i trust you.”

“i’m touched.”

“i don’t trust him.”

“say nothing.”

of course, when jumping out the window didn’t work, you move to the frickin satellite dish because surely that’ll work!

i especially like how charles lies through his teeth about believing that sean will fly this time. it’s nothing if not an experiment - he doesn’t know the outcome but says, confidently, that he does.

i also like how sean trusts charles 110% and puts all the blame on hank. poor hank. it’s prolly charles’ ability to bullshit his way through things confidently that makes sean trust him… (or maybe it’s the professorship. hard to tell.) xD

i also like to believe that if sean couldn’t fly, erik would just fish him back up using his powers. i mean, there are metal clasps on that wing-thing, right? that’s why shark lehnsherr was confident in just shoving the kid off the satellite dish.

trolls, the both of them really, charles and erik.

lookin’ good despite being in skin-tight spandex~ (sean’s legs are especially gorgeous \(,,,◕‿◕,,,)/

serves you right erik that’s what you get for being a lil’ shit. i like the way this shot turns out. alex looks like he’s judging erik heavily. sean looks like he couldn’t believe that hank just did that. charles looks like he couldn’t believe it as well. ha.

i also love the fact that sean’s totally unperturbed by what’s happened to hank. “ you’re blue and furry and have claws and fangs now? cool. so can you fly this thing y/n?”

non-judgmental freckly (and slightly stoned-looking) ginger mutants are my favourites as well~~~

“yes we do.”

(why are you so pretty)

“whoa, you back right off!”

that’s what you get for being a lil’ shit, erik (version 2.0)

may i point out that throughout this whole scene sean did not have his black-and-yellow wings but once he’s out of the plane:

they magically appear! and once he’s in the water:

they magically disappear! and once he's out of the water again:

tadaa! it’s back!

(also may i point out that it is impossible to shout under water? because the process for vocalizing involves inspiration, phonation, resonation and what-else-ation, i have forgotten, i am about to become and audiologist not a speech therapist i have no idea why they taught us all that in the first place…)

ginger bb trying so hard to save alex’s ass

and look at him go! whoo!

we are currently approaching the beach divorce.

thank you for your time.

all your tears and blood belong to us now.

we hope you enjoy the angst. bye-bye!

(shakes fists at xmfc)

spoilers ahead.

(but i think it’s not much of a spoiler because brian (bryan? meh) singer did release that footage of erik reciting the names of their dead comrades on youtube, right, so we all know that sean did not make it…)

this is the last screencap in my folder:

John was my favourite Beatle. I liked his wit; he had a real firecracker humour. He could be a little mean-spirited, but he was funny. He was kind of dangerous, too, but Paul’s personality mellowed him out. In The Byrds, I’d got the idea for wearing granny glasses from [the Lovin’ Spoonful’s] John Sebastian. I was walking down MacDougal Street in Greenwich Village one night, about three in the morning, and Sebastian was walking towards me with these little round shades. He said: “Try ’em on, man. Look up at the street lights and move your head around; they’re groovy!” So when I got out to LA, I dug out a little pocket money and went to the optometrist’s to have some made up. I told John Lennon about that and he went: “Aah, yeah!” So that’s where he got the idea for his.

One time I was hanging out at The Beatles’ house in Bel Air when they were invited to go and meet Elvis. I asked George if I could tag along, but he said he just didn’t think it would be right. So I waited at the house until they got back. When I asked them later how it was, they told me he was sitting on the arm rest of a couch and had a bass guitar plugged into his stereo. John had said: “Hey, Elvis, you used to make some really great rock’n’roll records. What happened to you?” Elvis just sort of mumbled: “Well, I’m makin’ movies now.” And that was the extent of the meeting.
[Roger McGuinn, Classic Rock, November 2016]

Bit mean that they wouldn’t let him go and meet Elvis with them!

In the earlier years John Lennon hated wearing glasses often choosing to not wear them. During the tour The Beatles did with Roy Orbison, Roy’s then guitarist, Bobby Goldsboro recommended John try contact lenses which John did but stopped using them during the early days of Beatlemania. One reason I’ve heard is that because of the jelly bellies being tossed towards The Beatles when they were on stage, the candies would hit John’s eyes and his eyes would become irritated. When John did wear glasses early on, they were the Buddy Holly style specs that we see here. Eventually after doing “How I Won The War” John started wearing the ‘antique Windsor’ style glasses that he wore while filming. It was a perfect match in style for him and it stuck.

Never gonna forgive this one (4 x Metro PD requests)

OK, I am probably pushing my luck with this one, but I just couldn’t resist. Four separate request (but possibly from the same Anon-san) which I decided to mash into one.

Please don’t come looking for me, I will be hiding in the darkest corner in shame.

“I just saw a girl who said she saw John Lennon walking down the street in New York wearing a button that said, “I love Paul.” she asked him, “Why are you wearing an ‘I love Paul’ button?” and he said, “Because I love Paul.” -Harry Nillson

“You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one”

75 years ago John Lennon entered this crazy world. Back then, who knew that a future legend took his first breath but now we all know and he is undoubtedly, one of the most missed people of this planet.
I wish I could see him once, I wish I could hear him talk live, I wish I was breathing the same air as him, I wish he was alive…

A man who knew how much power he possessed and used it all for world peace.
What a great life you lived, Sir John!
