Any chance we can get some Anabasis or DAV in celebration of Triduum/Holy Week?

Late reply is super late, but better than never I hope.

I’m working on the next DAV fic which would actually be a perfect fit for the Passover / Easter season, with its focus on themes of liberation, but it is, alas, not finished yet.

So in lieu of that (and by way of apology for being gone so long), here’s a snippet of Anabasis.

This one is pretty spoilery, tbh. But Holy Week for me is all about liberation and new life, and this part of the story is definitely that. So when I finally publish the whole of Anabasis, you all can pretend to be surprised…

The place was dim and musty, and it clanged with the distant echoes of crumbling old machinery. Padmé’s hand drifted uneasily and came to rest on the blaster at her hip. Just in case.

The door Dinsa had stopped before was the seventeenth in a line of identical doors, each unmarked and wholly unremarkable, the sort that might be found in any number of abandoned factories or warehouses in the Works.

But Padmé didn’t fail to notice the way Dinsa stood well back from the door, or the way she and Sabé watched Anakin closely, alert and ready for any sudden directive. Anakin himself was focused intently, seemingly unaware of anyone else around him. Padmé shifted from foot to foot, watching him stand perfectly still, watching the light of memory burn in his eyes.

“Anakin?” she whispered, hesitating only a moment before placing a hand on his shoulder. Warmth bled through his clothing and into her skin.

He blinked slowly, just once, then turned from the door to face her. His mouth curled, far too vicious to be called a smile.

“This is the place,” he said. “I can feel it.”

Work as an idol was busy. It wore him out, tore him down, and nearly broke him regularly. Dreaming of music had been fun, but the reality of the entertainment industry was harsher than that; long hours of work and practice and filming and-

Yoongi was tired.

Most of the time, he could find a way to blow off some steam (freestyling angry lyrics alone in his studio was a favorite) but of course… sometimes that wasn’t enough.

That was where you came in.

One of my favorite things to do in any of these analyses is try to pinpoint what a ghost’s life was like when they were alive. What time period were they from? What did they do? What were their goals and dreams?

There are a few ghosts with a canon backstory, but for the most part, we’re left to piece together what small clues the show gives us by ourselves. Walker’s one that I especially struggled with because the clues are rather small and limited, but let’s try to piece together what his life might’ve been like.

Well it’s not a secret at this point that yes, fine, I read fan fiction >_> And some of it compels me to arting. Though this one was somewhat coerced. XD Not on MY part, I was the one doing the coercing because @claroquequiza ‘s fic Afterdrop is just. It’s really good. I demanded they tell me to art something. This is a scene from a not yet written portion of it so details may change once it’s actually done (no I didn’t ask for spoilers). And as it is with most things, I am reasonably satisfied, but I can’t shake the feeling that hrng, I could have done better. One of these days I’ll draw something that I just like and won’t pick at before I’m done with it. I’ll pick at it a few days later.

Now that I’m out of inventory hell, I decided to do a bit of concept work to help with stress relief. In recent months, the design that I’ve been using for older Ringabel has been bothering me, so I finally took the time to start revisions on it. I decided to scrap a good chunk of what I had and take an approach that’s inspired by one of Ringbel’s outfits from one of the mobile games. It’s not completely clean, but I’ve made some good progress on it! Perhaps I’ll edit Edea next to go along with him?

Way of Subs Heathen back, I have this one customer that I am 90% sure over heard me talk to my coworker about allergies. Well I'm allergic to lavender, it makes me itch gives me hives, and makes me have breathing troubles. Simple allergy meds help get ride of the breathing issues but the itch is still there. Anyways, I'm pretty sure they cover their cash in it to test if I am allergic and when I turn around to wash my hands and itch they seem satisfied? They do it at least once a week.

I'm glad you exist to defend Moffat. People are certainly allowed to have preferences, and criticisms (many of which may be perfectly valid) but honestly sometimes the things people pick at are just ridiculous...

I’m glad it’s appreciated! I have no problem with people having issues with stories. Hell, for my part, dirty little secret, I actually find one Moffat run the least satisfying of the show and one that sort of had me slipping out of enjoying the show! (Series 7B if you’re wondering, though I at least appreciate what it was going for now, and I’ve always enjoyed individual episodes from it). It’s the holding everything he does as awful and everything RTD (for example) that I can’t stand, really.

Some Headcanons (mostly cuddles and hugs orientated):

Sombra:

- The mood for cuddles strikes her at times and then she looks for her partner, hugging them or draping herself over them until she’s satisfied or she ends up talking with them, one arm curled around them while she gestures with her other hand.

- If her partner is in the mood for cuddles, Sombra welcomes them, as long as she’s not incredibly busy or just found a new lead. However, if her partner has a bad day and doesn’t feel well, she takes a break from her hacking or searching to take care of them.

- When they hug or cuddle, Sombra often beings tapping away on a tablet after a while, either still with both her arms around her love or with the tablet propped up on her knee while her other arm is wrapped around her partner.

- Sombra can be tactile, though she keeps the really intimate or soft touches for private moments. If they’re meeting with business contracts or ‘friend’s of hers or potential enemies, she actually doesn’t touch her partner, focusing more on the person in front of her.

- If she works for a long time, skipping out on sleep or rest until she’s either successful or has to take a break, Sombra secretly loves to curl up beside or drape herself half over her partner before she drifts off to sleep.

- Her hugs tend to either be a bit loose or tighter and she loves to lean against her partner a little, or to pull their weight a bit against her and she prefers to hug them around the middle.

McCree:

- He smells of his laundry detergent and leather, a bit of the dust of the road and there is always the undercurrent of the smoky scent of his cigar hanging around him. It’s not as strongly as some people would expect, since McCree takes care to keep his clothes from smelling anything like an ashtray.

- His hugs and cuddles are on the softer side most of the time. McCree is very aware of his strength and the metal edges of his prosthetic and he remains centered in his body weight, not leaning against his partner, though he doesn’t mind at all if they lean against him.

- If he gets tipsy or excited though, his hugs have a lot more energy to them. He loves to pull his partner close to him, to rest a warm arm around their back or shoulders and to have them lean against him or to pull them against his chest in a tighter embrace, smiling against their cheek or neck.

- McCree easily welcomes his partner whenever they seek a hug or a cuddle out themselves, opening his arms readily or making space on the couch so they can curl up beside him comfortably.

- When he’s sleepy, his hugs can turn a bit full-body, he tugs his partner close, their chests and thighs toughing and he either invites them to rest their head on his chest or he nuzzles against the top of their head.

- His serape is soft, both because of the fabric and how long it’s been worn. It’s comfortable and warm for something that can feel quite light and McCree loves to wrap it around both of them on slightly chilly nights, while they sit together on a roof or before a campfire.

Genji:

- He enjoys affection a lot, though he tends to keep the bigger gestures to when his partner and he are either in private or surrounded by close friends they both trust. When in public and as long as they’re not on a job, depending on what his partner is comfortable with, he likes to hold their hand a lot as well.

- Genji is aware of the hard edges along his augmented and cybernized body, so if his partner is human, he takes care not to hug them too tightly.

- He enjoys taking them out to eat or to explore cities, whenever they have the time to and it’s safe to do so, since the last thing Genji wants is for any bad guys or enemies to bust their date. Genji can get both romantic and a bit silly whenever he’s out with his partner and taking them somewhere.

- He likes to fall asleep with them in his arms or to have their head resting in his lap. In the same sense, he loves to just lie down, his head pillowed on their thigh and to listen to them as they talk about their day or to doze off to the sound of a show or movie on the TV.

- Genji absolutely adores his partner’s laugh and whenever they find a joke or story of his funny or amusing, he finds himself growing happy.

- While Genji came a long way and experienced a lot, there are days when he’s just completely silly with his partner, picking them up easily or organizing a day where they stay in and just play games. He also likes to dress up with them quite often as well.

anonymous asked:

hi, do you have any advice for writing a satisfying romantic arc? i'm so new to all this but i want to be able to make my readers squeal when characters finally kiss, not feel underwhelmed

Well, it’s all about pacing. Balancing gradual development with character interaction. At least, that’s how I view it. Romance isn’t really that different from any other type of story arc, at least, not when it comes to building tension. The rule I give myself is this–give the reader enough to try and jump three steps ahead, but only allow them one. You have to constantly keep your reader looking forward to something else. Keep the story moving, never let it stall, but don’t be a speeding car on a freeway. Make sure to take the scenic route, but also make sure you go the speed limit. If you go too slowly through something that takes a long time, you’re bound to bore your readers.

This is actually a really hard question, and it’s more about narrative tension than actual romance. It’s… a difficult thing to describe, how to create tension. My best advice is that you should watch your fav romantic movies or read your fav romantic books and actively study how the narrative is structured. Not just the romantic parts, but the whole shebang. Creating tension is more involved than one story arc–there’s usually a few.

I don’t really know–this is bad advice. If I was looking at a story, I could point out issues I have with the tension and why the pacing maybe hurts the arc, but it’s hard without having something concrete in front of me. For example, an issue I have with a lot of fanfics is that the characters get to the endgame too easily and so the tension doesn’t exist. Or it takes too long because the writer thinks that a slow story creates tension, but it doesn’t (the two are not related). Just because something takes a long time, doesn’t mean it’s filled with expectation. But that’s a hard thing to describe without having something in front of me to analyze. And I guess I could explain how I structure my own arcs, but they’re so intertwined with other arcs that it’d literally be a twenty page essay (that’s how much thought I put into everything I write, not even kidding).

But the best way to learn is to actively think about your favorite narratives. Ask yourself why you like this romantic arc, why it keeps you invested. That’s one of the things I think a lot of aspiring writers forget to do. Learning to write isn’t as simple as being told “write this way.” You have to be aware of the stories around you and why they’re turning out the way they are. You have to know what tools are at your disposal and how to use them before actually doing it. Just as artists have to learn new ways of looking at the world before being able to create their vision, just as musicians have to learn new ways of listening before being able to create their music.

Study the romantic arcs that you like, examine in great detail why you like them. And I don’t mean things like “I like this character because he’s tall, dark, and handome.” Literally look at the character interactions and at the pace at which their relationship develops. Look at the small intricacies and how those pieces mesh with other arcs around them.

You can’t write something until you know how it works. So, in the end, it just comes down to practice and always being consciously observant of the narratives around you. Does this make you a horrible critic? Yes, yes it does. Does it ruin fun movies for you because you’re too busy being annoyed at how the characters were handled or how the pacing was horrible? Yes. But it will also make you a much, much better writer.

(A) FACE (IN) THE CROWD

The Black Years is what they call the period of silence, of Darkness, the blank in the annals of history. It is an empty smear across time and space. It is the unfilled pothole in the road. Of the many who try to study it, who try to fill in the blanks and the potholes, most of them disappear.

Timoteo di Chiari did not.

36 years ago, diChiari Studios and Millefiore Productions released Vongola: il Primo Generazione. It claimed to be a documentary of life before the Black Years, about the first generation Italian vigilante-group-turned-mafia that set into motion a chain of events leading to where they were today. Stranded in history and doing what human civilization did best. Moving forward.

It was quite riveting, really.

Unfortunately there was also a lot of magic and fire in his documentary, so naturally it pretty quickly turned into an overblown franchise with glorified mafia hero figures and figurines and easily 8 more Generazione ‘spin-offs’ by people who were not diChiari and Millefiore. And then came the other mafia families. There were so many. There were theatre productions and musicals. There were sitcoms about magical fiery mafia life.

Tsunayoshi, though? Just wants to get through college like a normal kid. Instead, his high school friends are causing trouble in their respective regions of the globe, his probably dead dad’s retired colleague-turned-tutor-turned-surrogate-father is still having Problems with his adoption paperwork (he is going to scream if they have to deal with governmental limbo for another year), and now his super old grandfatherly cousin Ieyasu is recommending him to di Chiari, who is trying to film an all original documentary-style story about Vongola X: la generazione finale to bring the franchise 'back to its roots’, what the hell? Tsuna’s never acted before, how’s he supposed to play the main role? Also, school? Hello? Please let him be he does not want to be a movie

au. flames are a thing of the past, supposedly. a different trinisette is lost with a different generation of a different vongola. the world stops. the world restarts. and no one is any the wiser for it. sure, there’s little rips in space-time haunting several uninhabited areas of the world now, and people living near them keep lighting up on fire (and/or disappearing), but those have always been there… right? and people have always done that? right?? [general flame-infused secret history. lots of humor, i hope. no trinisette. no guardians. italian mafia is dying out. not actually conspiracy theory.]

most of the humor is just how blase they are about this sudden reappearance of Flames and stuff. ‘well, we’ve got, like, 80+ years where there’s no history recorded at all and no one even remembers that time anymore. magical flamey powers? sounds legit. i gotta go tho i have an essay to finish and blackout is at 4 am i need every minute i can get.’

There’s no story here.
I let you flirt with me
because I’m lonely.
I let the dinner party go on
as long as I can and then I pull the tablecloth out from underneath
us until I’m the only
dish that hasn’t fallen to the floor.

I don’t think I have it in me,
the fairy tale you’re talking about.
The one where I call you back
and sound like the princess,
all hopeless and helpless in love.
Most times I’m satisfied
with just being wanted,
because I’m still my own and
you still can’t stand it and God,
it tastes good,
the air on the way back to my place, alone as ever.

Give me a feeling. Any feeling.
I’ll chew it up and spit out
something pretty,
tie the tenderness with my tongue
and hand the cherry stem to you,
all mangled and gorgeous.

I talk so much for someone who
has nothing to say.

Yeah, I’m full of it.
Yeah, I’ve already thought about
fucking you in every single
place we’ve walked by and no,
I’m not gonna do anything about it.
But I will call you at three in the
morning and kiss you
until you’re sure something
else is going to happen,
then I’ll say goodnight, belly full
of satisfied.

I’m actually vicious.
A sliver of me is stone and that’s the
only place I let you touch because
it’s the only place that won’t
remember you.

So, okay, maybe there’s a story here.
Maybe it’s not the one I thought
it was,
but at least it’s something.
