and the movie was flawless

Baby Driver

this movie is flawless and here are some reasons why:

  • the whole soundtrack
  • the entire beginning sequence
  • when Griff (Jon Bernthal) gets in the car during the first heist and points forward and Baby slams it backwards
  • sign language
  • Joe made me so happy?
  • also when he signed “who’s the girl?”
  • Ansel Elgort’s lips? blocked
  • you can hear his tinnitus (ringing sound) when he’s not listening to music
  • you can’t hear his tinnitus when he’s with Deborah
  • when he takes one ear bud out the music shifts to one side
  • Kevin Spacey. just overall. i love him
  • “what the fuck?”
  • when he goes to get coffee and he’s listening to Harlem Shuffle by Bob & Earl you can see the lyrics graffiti-ed on the walls and poles and stuff behind him as he’s walking
  • when Baby is ordering coffee and he goes “yeah yeah yeah” in time with the song
  • Baby reciting back the entire plan and then looking at Bats and going “questions?”
  • “That’s my Baby.” “Fuck yo’ Baby.”
  • the gunshots are perfectly in time with the music during every fight sequence
  • when Buddy cocks Darling’s gun for her
  • Darling’s outfits
  • she’s also rly pretty the fuck
  • Brighton Rock??? What the fuck???? so good I love Queen
  • “And you’re in a pink and sparkly mood?” “I am now.”
  • Every time Baby smirks I wanna punch him
  • the sunglasses scene
  • the scene where he’s running away from the cops is just as intense as the car chase scenes and the gun fights
  • Simon and Garfunkel’s Baby Driver is so catchy fuck
  • “Wait, I have to start the song over.”
  • When he goes into the diner and it starts playing When Something Is Wrong With My Baby
  • Baby singing along to Neat Neat Neat
  • “Now you know I hate taking candy from Baby…”
  • Jamie Foxx’s character was unpredictable, and a little unnerving. He wasn’t like terrifying but there definitely were moments where I wasn’t sure what he was gonna do and it made me nervous
  • side note my dad was peeing when Bats died and when he came back and I told him Baby killed Bats he went “ah, good.”
  • “You took something from me that I love, now you know I gotta do the same to you.” Oh yea for sure he’s gonna shoot Deb- FUCK
  • that part was honestly so good I spent like 5 minutes with my mouth hanging open like fuck you Buddy you can’t take that away from him :’(
  • but it also shows that Buddy really understood Baby and remember that he kinda stood up for Baby and they were bonding a lil with music and stuff it just shows how unpredictable he was
  • I have legitimately been listening to the soundtrack for this movie since I saw it a week ago today
  • his name is Miles
  • if Edgar Wright and James Gunn made a movie together I would die immediately upon entering the theater

don’t worry I’ll see this movie 8937459 more times so expect more of this

Why is it that one of the biggest arguments against Wonder Woman is the fact that there was a romance subplot? Like honestly? It was barely even a subplot. First and foremost, Steve and Diana were friends. He helped her navigate a world she didn’t understand, but her motivations were always entirely hers. And secondly, literally almost every other action movie on this goddamn planet has a romance subplot, except the difference is they had male leads and female love interests, who are almost always damsels in distress. Diana’s romance with Steve never once made her out as someone Steve had to save, or even vice versa. They were friends and colleagues with the utmost respect for each other. No one makes this big of a fuss in male-led action movies with a romance subplot. People just take it as it is because it’s the ‘status quo’ but in order for a female-led action movie to have any merit, the woman shouldn’t have a love interest because that diminishes her strength as a woman. Well, sirs and madames, kindly fuck off. Just because Hollywood has conditioned you to believe that a woman in love is weak and submissive doesn’t actually mean it’s true. Love has always been the driving force of Diana’s moral fiber and strength. If you think her falling in love is somehow an inherent weakness of hers then you clearly don’t understand Wonder Woman to begin with.

why hairspray is an excellent musical/movie:
  • fat protagonist THAT DOESN’T LOSE WEIGHT OVER THE COURSE OF THE STORY
  • the only makeover the fat protagonist gets is a cute dress and a new hairdo. her mom also gets a matching dress and they dance in the streets together during a crowd song
  • fat protagonist that’s portrayed as being cute, funny, sweet, attractive and a great dancer, rather than the “clumsy ugly fat sidekick” trope
  • fat protagonist that hooks up with zac efron at the end
  • HUGE amount of poc in the cast
  • “If we get any more white people in here, it’s gonna be a suburb.”
  • the cast of the movie is flawless. and i do mean flawless. queen latiafah, michelle pfeiffer, nikki blonksy and elijah kelly are standouts, but they were all excellent in their roles
  • bouncy, funky soundtrack with lots of great choreography
  • “I think I’ve been living in a bubble or something, thinking fairness was just gonna happen. It’s not. People like me need to get up, off their father’s laps, and go and FIGHT for it.”
  • the protag’s mother has literally not left her apartment and gone outside in YEARS because she’s so ashamed of the way she looks, but with the help of her daughter and husband, she learns to love herself again and tell the haters where to shove it
  • interracial couple – a white girl and a black boy… and the girl kisses him ON LIVE TV. WITH HER RACIST-ASS MOTHER WATCHING. AND IT’S FABULOUS.
  • a happy ending! the story overall is very optimistic – we have to fight for change, and change is often slow, but it IS possible, especially if we all work together
  • zac efron. zefron. ZEFRON IS IN THIS MOVIE.
  • the character of corny collins in general is great. he 100% pro-integration and completely ignores his producer when she tells him the protag is too fat to be on the show, and hires her anyway because she’s the best dancer. he also uses his influence with his TV show to get black dancers on his show, and make sure they’re qualified to win the annual dance competition, despite his producer trying to stop him.
  • “DEVIL CHILD! DEVIL CHILD!” (i promise, it’s hilarious in context)
  • i’ve already mentioned the music, but i will again because it really is GREAT. my favorites are “without love”, “run and tell that”, “welcome to the 60s”, and “you can’t stop the beat”
  • the romances in this show are actually very well done and believable
  • the white pretty boy has to learn that he has to get the fuck over himself and be a fucking ally for POC and fat people if he wants to be with the protag
  • “So, this is love? Well, love is a gift. But unfortunately a lot of people forget that, so you two had better prepare yourselves for a whole lot of ugly coming at you from a never-ending parade of stupid.” “Oh. So you’ve met my mom.”
  • there are more reasons but just trust me
  • go watch hairspray
